Efígies do distante: o \'outro\' e a Amazônia nas fotografias de Christoph Albert Frisch / Effigies of the distant: the \'other\' and the Amazon in the photographs of Christoph Albert Frisch

Souza, Júlio César Conejo de 01 December 2017 (has links)
The present study deals with the photographs resulting from the expedition carried out by the Bavarian Christoph Albert Frisch (1840-1918) in the Brazilian extension of the Solimões River at the request of the Leuzinger House of photographies, an active city of Rio de Janeiro during the beginning of the second half of the 19th century. interested in commercializing images of the exotic and distant for sale, mainly to foreign travelers. Costume albums in Charles V's Habsburg Empire (1528-1549)

Bond, Katherine Louise January 2018 (has links)
This dissertation addresses the development of the costume book in the rapidly globalising world of the sixteenth century, concentrating on two costume albums produced in the second quarter of the sixteenth century and whose owners and creators shared close ties to the imperial court of Habsburg ruler and Holy Roman Emperor Charles V (r. 1519-56). These richly illustrated albums were among the first known and surviving attempts to make sense of cultural difference by compiling visual information about regional clothing customs in and around Europe and further abroad. Their method of codifying sartorial customs through representative costume figures became a prevailing method through which to examine human difference on an increasingly vast and complex geo-political stage. Yet to have been satisfactorily investigated is the significant role that Habsburg networks and relationships played in shaping these costume albums and their ethnographic interests. The Trachtenbuch, or costume album, of Augsburg portrait medallist Christoph Weiditz (c. 1500-59) is a primary example, constituting a work of keen ethnographic observation which depicts customs and cultures largely witnessed first-hand when the artist travelled to Charles V’s Spanish court in 1529. Of equal interest is the second primary example of this dissertation, the costume album of Christoph von Sternsee (d. 1560) the captain of Charles V’s German Guard. Sternsee’s album, introduced to scholarship for the first time in this study, illustrates diverse cultures and costumes encountered across the imperial Habsburg lands and its neighbours. The emperor’s far-reaching sovereignty propelled Christoph Weiditz and Christoph von Sternsee across the Habsburg lands as they each attempted to benefit their careers and gain prestige from imperial patronage. Their costume albums testify to an empire that encouraged interactions between ambassadors, agents, merchants, military officers, and courtly elite of diverse cultural backgrounds, against a backdrop of shared political, religious, commercial, and military interests. This milieu facilitated the transfer of knowledge and developed methods of visual communication and human representation that were shared and reciprocally recognised.

This work proposes the hermeneutical approach of Heinrich Christoph Koch's (1749-1816) phraseological theory, considered the most clear and complete phraseological systematization of his time since eighteenth century. The objective consists in achieving a historical comprehension of how the relation among musical grammar, rhetoric and aesthetics manifests itself in this theory. It will be investigated the techniques of creation, concatenation and development of musical thought, the influence of persuasion in the application of these techniques and the nature of the units of musical thought, such as phrase, period, structure and form. In order to reconstruct the horizon of meaning of this theory and to comprehend the relation among its constituent parts, it will be examined Koch's treatises, essays and articles and the contemporary studies related to them. The study of the eighteenth century musical thought and its creative procedures conducts to a particular comprehension of the repertoire founded on them, in so far as this study recovers the own parameters of this musical production, to which our perception is not sensible. It becomes evident in the last part of this work, in which Koch's phraseological theory is applied in an analysis of the first movement of W. A. Mozart's string quartet in G major, KV 387, a piece that is recommended by Koch as being a model for its genre / Doutorado / Fundamentos Teoricos / Doutor em Música

Weiblichkeit im Kontext der Entfremdungserfahrung am Beispiel von Christoph Heins Novelle Der fremde Freund (1982)

Enge, Caroline 05 May 2023 (has links)

Jentzsch, Christian 25 June 2022 (has links)
August Christoph von Wackerbarth gained his reputation primarily as a result of his building work in Saxony. However, alongside his many other activities he spent most of his life wearing the King’s uniform as a serving officer in the Saxon army. Initially Wackerbarth’s military career followed a classic trajectory, however at a certain point he broke free of the usual frame of reference and rose to the very top of the Saxon military establishment. The article describes the essential stages of his progression through the ranks of the military and examines certain aspects of his career in greater detail.

Perspectives on the Musical Essays of Lorenz Christoph Mizler (1711-1778)

Pinegar, Sandra 08 1900 (has links)
This study provides commentary on Mizler's Dissertatio and Anfangs-Gründe des General Basses. Chapter V is an annotated guide to his Neu eröffnete musikalische Bibliothek, one of the earliest German music periodicals. Translations of Mizler's biography in Mattheson's Grundlage einer Ehrenpforte and selected passages of Mizler's Der musikalischer Staarstecher contribute a sampling of the critical polemics among Mizler, Mattheson, and Scheibe. As a proponent of the Aufklärung, Mizler was influenced by Leibnitz, Thomasius, and Wolff. Though his attempts to apply mechanistic principles to music were rejected during his time, his founding of a society of musical sciences, which included J. S. Bach, Telemann, Handel, and C. H. Graun as members, and his efforts to establish music as a scholarly discipline deserve recognition.
