Organização do trabalho e saúde dos trabalhadores: estudo com bancários do município de Uberaba-MG / Organization of the work and the workers\' health: study with bank employees of the municipal district of Uberaba-MG

Juliana Lemos Silva 02 October 2009 (has links)
SILVA, Juliana Lemos. / SILVA, Juliana Lemos. Organization of the work and the workers\' health: study with bank employees of the municipal district of Uberaba-MG, 2009, 170 p. Dissertação de Mestrado apresentada ao Programa de Pós-graduação em Ciências Médicas da Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto, Universidade de São Paulo/FMRP/USP, Departamento de Medicina Social. The Brazilian banking sector passed for intense process of transformation in the last few decades and occupied position of leadership in the incorporation of new technologies and organizations innovations. The observed productive reorganization in the sector objectified to adjust it the new forms to it of capitalist accumulation: the intense computerization of the banking work and other structural changes of the sector had not only affected the nature of the products but also the proper behavior of the markets, what it resulted in significant changes in the work conditions and, consequently, in the health of the workers. This study it had for objective to investigate the conditions of work of the bank clerks of a private institution in Uberaba, MG, Brazil, in the attempt to identify where measured the changes in the organization of the work they had intervened with its health. The collection of data if gave through recorded interviews with ten pertaining bank clerks the different hierarchic levels, of both the sexes, and the adopted criteria of inclusion had been: a. that the interviewed one had employment bond with the institution when of the accomplishment of the research and, b. that half of the interviewed ones had, in the minimum, ten years of career in the institution. The contacts with the workers had been mediated by the union of the category. The reconstitution of the work process, in the perspective of the bank clerks, denounces that beyond illnesses of physical order, as the occupational illnesses directly related to the intensification of the work rhythm, had also occurred the increase of the incidence of the mental suffering and the loss of the identity and the professional valuation, in result of the new requirements of the profession. The majority of the interviewed ones, independent of its time of act of contract, affirmed that the banking work lost its status. Feelings of frustration and unreliability in relation to the career had predominated in the depositions. The data had also disclosed concern with the suffered psychological pressure, mainly as for the fulfillment of goals. Expressions as mental consuming, stress, depression, psychological pressure, fear, uncertainty and unreliability had been gifts in the majority of the depositions.

The feminization of clerical work in early twentieth-century Montreal /

Boyer, Laura Kate. January 2001 (has links)
This research examines the changing relationships of gender, place and identity wrought by women's entrance into Montreal's financial service sector between 1900 and 1930. I seek to answer two related questions. First, what kinds of identities were enabled in the new spaces created by the feminization of clerical work? In particular, how was gender, sexual, and ethno-linguistic difference constructed within the mixed-sex clerical workspace? Second, what effect did women's entrance into corporate workspaces in the financial district have on prevailing notions about gender, class and urban space? How did this change in labour markets affect representations of women in public more generally? / I make three arguments about women's entrance into Montreal's white-collar workforce. First, I argue that this process created a new kind of "contact zone" within and beyond the white-collar workplace. In these spaces, people came together across cleaves of difference, and ideas about nationalism, class, religion, and language were negotiated in new ways. Secondly, I argue that women's entrance into this sector of the labour market was marked by contradiction. On the one hand, women were held responsible for bringing sexuality into the white-collar workplace, and were sexualized within corporate culture. On the other hand, ideas about "respectability" defined through sexual propriety and corporeal restraint were central to the corporate image as well as media representations of female clerical workers. Finally, I argue that the feminization of clerical work re-mapped relations of gender, class and space. In the highly modernized offices of the financial district, ideas about public womanhood competed. I argue that this change in labour helped legitimize representations of modern womanhood which were consummately urban in nature.

Grobler, Johannes Theodorus Wessels 25 March 2014 (has links)
M.Ed. (Education Management) / The subject of this investigation is the management function of the provincial administration clerk in the school. The investigation is limited to schools within the ambit of the Transvaal Education Department and has been aimed, primarily, at determining the responsibilities and position of the administration clerk in the effective functioning of the school. As the administration office forms the nerve-centre of the school's activities and due to its staff consistence of administration clerks, a clear indication of their duties and responsibilities is an essential management function of the school principal. The investigation in regard to the functions of the senior provincial administration clerk demonstrated that the school principal as the management leader, must possess a thorough knowledge of administrative matters. This is essential as he, being the in-service trainer, has to suitably equip the senior provincial administration clerk with the required knowledge and skills in order that she, in tum, can easily perform as management leader of the school's administrative section. In order to keep pace with change and modernisation, the school principal and administration clerks must be prepared to attend in-service training courses. Moreover, they must gain knowledge on their own accord through the reading of circular letters, catalogues, manuals and also keep abreast of technological development such as the modern micro computer, word processor as well as facsimile and duplicating machines. The services of a good administration clerk are indispensable to the school principal as well as the educator. Qualities which the administration clerk must possess include reliability, loyalty, responsibility, willingness to help, tact, courtesy, charm, enterprise and patience. AIthough the educator cannot be relieved of all administrative responsibilities, the school principal must nevertheless reflect seriously about administrative responsibilities that should not really be undertaken by the educator. By entrusting responsibilities such as the processing of marks, compiling of class lists, raising of funds, transport arrangements, controlling of stock, duplicating work...

Clerks and scriveners : legal literacy and access to justice in late medieval England

Bevan, Kitrina Lindsay January 2013 (has links)
Provincial town clerks and scriveners have hitherto been a neglected subject in the historiography of the legal profession, yet as this thesis demonstrates, they contributed significantly to medieval England’s legal and scribal culture. Arguing for a new definition of scriveners based on their legal and linguistic literacy, this fresh interpretation differentiates between scriveners, notaries, generic clerks and lawyers and modifies the existing tendency towards classifying scriveners purely on the basis of the work they did and the legal instruments they produced. The study not only rectifies a gap in our knowledge, but reconceptualises our understanding of the lower echelons of the legal profession by examining the work that scriveners did and the role that they played in the local legal administration of medieval England, and by extension, the ways in which they facilitated access to justice on several levels. Focussing primarily on Exeter, Bristol, Bridgwater and Southampton, this research for the first time reveals the identities of some of the many scriveners who worked outside of London and evaluates their activities in provincial England. In order to achieve this, the thesis considers the extent to which scriveners were an integral part of an urban legal service as members of the provincial secretariat. Underpinning the theoretical framework of this thesis are themes such as literacy, clerical identity and professionalization – all of which are examined through the prism of law, languages and access to justice. Grounded in a palaeographic and diplomatic approach to the manuscript sources, this research has yielded some surprising results regarding the essential role of provincial scriveners within the legal, political and administrative landscape of medieval England. Fundamentally, this thesis offers a new vision of provincial English scriveners and the influence of their work. Set against the backdrop of an increasingly ‘professional’ legal profession, the importance of provincial scriveners as the keepers and creators of legal memory is highlighted along with the impact that this had on the wider legal community of medieval England.

Swahn, Matilda January 2023 (has links)
Pedagogical leadership studies how to facilitate learning, mostly in Education and from the perspective of the principal being the pedagogical leader. One context somewhere in between Education and workplace learning is the two-year training as a law clerk in the Swedish court system. Few studies have been made on how law clerks learn, how the court or judges facilitates their learning and how legal expertise develop. The aim of this study is to increase knowledge on law clerks’ workplace learning. The research question is how do law clerks learn in their everyday work? A qualitative study with semi-structured couple interviews was conducted. The respondents were 22 law clerks, judges, and court clerks from a department in a district court. Situated learning was used as a theoretical framework for the analysis.  The result presents law clerks’ trajectory from apprentices through legitimate peripheral participation in the community of praxis. Law clerks start to produce and deliver legitimate work directly, they negotiate and form their learning and professional identity through participation in their daily work. They observe, imitate, ask questions, make mistakes, and try different ways to solve the problem at hand. They must through themselves out to find their own way and their own identity as a senior law clerk. The judges, the Masters, facilitate law clerks’ situated learning by giving or restricting access to participation. Due to power relations, law clerks are unwilling to ask questions and display their ignorance which limit their legitimate participation. Law clerks need to initiate to gain access to the community of praxis and negotiate their judicial independence, the situated knowledge. This study contributes to the field of workplace learning and development of legal expertise by describing how law clerks learn. The judges facilitate this learning in a way that could be described as pedagogical leadership.

The identities and practices of school administrative clerks in selected schools in the Western Cape

Bayat, Abdullah 04 1900 (has links)
Thesis (PhD)--Stellenbosch University, 2014. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: School administrative clerks are a category of educational worker that is normally overlooked by those doing research on schools. These workers are also ubiquitously underappreciated in school discourses. There is a lack of research on the identities and practices of administrative clerks which is the specific focus of this thesis. This thesis aims to address this knowledge gap in the literature. Therefore the research questions addressed in this thesis were: (1) how are school administrative clerks’ identities and practices constituted? (2) what are school administrative clerks contributions to the functioning of schools? The research questions were answered by conducting a qualitative study that involved interviewing and observing three purposively chosen school administrative clerks as well as conducting document analysis of policy documents. The analysis of the data was written up in four articles, each employing theoretical frameworks apposite for the analysis that it pursued. The articles variously addressed the way in which school administrative clerks’ identities and practices are negotiated. They provided insight into their professional contributions in their worksites. This is a thesis by articles. It consists of six chapters. The introductory wraparound chapter is followed by four articles, which constitute the four middle chapters of the thesis. These four academic articles have been published in, or submitted for publication to, different journals. Chapter six is the conclusion chapter. The insights gained from the four articles were that the administrative clerks’ identities and practices were constituted by their exercise of agency. They enacted what I regarded as a form of ‘subordinated agency’. The first article suggests that their reflexive agency resulted in spatial practices that made a contribution to their schools’ management and teaching practices. The second article suggests that administrative clerks’ rhetorical agency was established through their careful and tactful negotiation of rhetorical spaces in order to exercise their voice. They accomplished this through their resistance to the rhetorical norms of the school. The third article argues that they enacted an ethical agency which was instantiated through their quest for self-transformation which led to professional practices that had considerable positive consequences for the school. The fourth article posits that their accumulation of information and relational resources translated into a form of participatory capital that laid the foundation for their agency. It is through the deployment of their participatory capital that they exercised their agency to fashion unique professional identities. The conclusion of the thesis is that agency plays a significant role in the way that school administrative clerks’ identities, practices and their contribution to their school spaces are instantiated. School administrative clerks’ identities and practices are constituted by the subordinated agency that they are able to marshal within the professional spaces of their work environments. It is this subordinated agency that propels the administrative clerks’ daily creative boundary crossings between their school management practices on the one hand and their broader educational practices on the other hand. The study thus presents an analysis of their incisive professional contribution in spite of their putative subordinated status. Hierdeur is insig verkry in hul professionele bydrae in hul onderskeie werksomgewings. Hierdie vier akademiese artikels is reeds gepubliseer of voorgelê vir publikasie in verskillende joernale.
