Låt äventyret börja! : En komparativ studie av Musse & Helium, elevtolkningar och lärarhandledning. / Let the adventure begin! : A comparative study of Musse & Helium, student comprehensions and teacher´s manual.

Rosén, Elin, Melin, Lina, Taube, Dzesika January 2019 (has links)

Sex Chromosome Evolution in Blow Flies

Anne Amarila Andere (9120365) 28 July 2020 (has links)
<div>Chromosomal mechanisms of sex determination vary greatly in phylogenetically closely related species, indicative of rapid evolutionary rates. Sex chromosome karyotypes are generally conserved within families; however, many species have derived sex chromosome configurations. Insects display a plethora of sex chromosome systems due to rapid diversification caused by changes in evolutionary processes within and between species. A good example of such a system are insects in the blow fly family Calliphoridae. While cytogenetic studies observe that the karyotype in blow flies is highly conserved (five pairs of autosomal chromosomes and one pair sex chromosome), there is variation in sex determining mechanisms and sex chromosome structure within closely related species in blow flies. The evolutionary history of sex chromosomes in blow fly species have not been fully explored. Therefore, the objective of this research was to characterize the sex chromosome structures in four species of blow flies and investigate the selective forces which have played a role in shaping the diverse sex chromosome system observed in blow flies. The blow fly species used in this study are Phormia regina, Lucilia cuprina, Chrysomya rufifacies and Chrysomya albiceps. Phormia regina, and Lucilia cuprina have a heteromorphic sex chromosome system and are amphogenic (females produce both male and female offspring in equal ratio). In contrast, Chrysomya rufifacies and Chrysomya albiceps, have a homomorphic sex chromosome system, are monogenic (females produce unisexual progeny), have two types of females (arrhenogenic females – male producers and thelygenic females – female producers), and sex of the offspring is determined by the maternal genotype. </div><div>To accomplish these tasks, a total of nine male and female individual draft genomes for each of the four species (including three individual draft genomes of Chrysomya rufifacies – male, and the two females) were sequenced and assembled providing genomic data to explore sex chromosome evolution in blow flies. Whole genome analysis was utilized to characterize and identify putative sex chromosomal sequences of the four blow fly species. Genomic evidence confirmed the presence of genetically differentiated sex chromosomes in P. regina and L. cuprina; and genetically undifferentiated sex chromosomes in C. rufifacies and C. albiceps. Furthermore, comparative analysis of the ancestral Dipteran sex chromosome (Muller element F in Drosophila) was determined to be X-linked in P. regina and L. cuprina contributing to sex chromosome differentiation but not sex-linked in C. rufifacies and C. albiceps. Evolutionary pressures are often quantified by the ratio of substitution rates at non-synonymous (dN) and synonymous (dS) sites. Substitution rate ratio analysis (dN/dS) of homologous genes indicated a weaker purifying selection may have contributed to the loss of sex-linked genes in Muller element F genes of the undifferentiated sex chromosome as compared to the differentiated sex chromosome system. Overall, the results presented herein greatly expands our knowledge in sex chromosome evolution within blow flies and will reinforce the study of sex chromosome evolution in other species with diverse sex chromosome systems.</div><div><br></div>

A comparative analysis of stylistic devices in Shakespeare’s plays, Julius Caesar and Macbeth and their xitsonga translations

Baloyi, Mafemani Joseph 06 1900 (has links)
The study adopts a theory of Descriptive Translation Studies to undertake a comparative analysis of stylistic devices in Shakespeare’s two plays, Julius Caesar and Macbeth and their Xitsonga translations. It contextualises its research aim and objectives after outlining a sequential account of theory development in the discipline of translation; and arrives at the desired and suitable tools for data collection and analysis.Through textual observation and notes of reading, the current study argues that researchers and scholars in the discipline converge when it comes to a dire need for translation strategies, but diverge in their classification and particular application for convenience in translating and translation. This study maintains that the translation strategies should be grouped into explicitation, normalisation and simplification, where each is assigned specific translation procedures. The study demonstrates that explicitation and normalisation translation strategies are best suited in dealing with translation constraints at a microtextual level. The sampled excerpts from both plays were examined on the preference for the analytical framework based on subjective sameness within a Skopos theory. The current study acknowledges that there is no single way of translating a play from one culture to the other. It also acknowledges that there appears to be no way the translator can refrain from the influence of the source text, as an inherent cultural feature that makes it unique. With no sure way of managing stylistic devices as translation constraints, translation as a problem-solving process requires creativity, a demonstration of mastery of language and style of the author of the source text, as well as a power drive characterised by the aspects of interlingual psychological balance of power and knowledge power. These aspects will help the translator to manage whatever translation brief(s) better, and arrive at a product that is accessible, accurate and acceptable to the target readership. They will also ensure that the translator maintains a balance between the two languages in contact, in order to guard against domination of one language over the other. The current study concludes that the Skopos theory has a larger influence in dealing with anticipating the context of the target readership as a factor that can introduce high risk when assessing the communicability conditions for the translated message. Contrariwise, when dealing with stylistic devices and employ literal translation as a translation procedure to simplification, the translator only aims at simplifying the language and making it accessible for the sake of ‘accessibility’ as it remains a product with communicative inadequacies. The study also concludes by maintaining that translation is not only transcoding, but the activity that calls for the translator’s creativity in order to identify and analyse the constraints encountered and decide on the corresponding translation strategies. / African Languages / D. Two Piano Editions of the Third and Fifth Movements of Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra: Their Textual Fidelity and Technical Accessibility

Polgár, Éva, 1983- 08 1900 (has links)
In the case of Concerto for Orchestra, Béla Bartók transcribed one of his most emblematic orchestral compositions to his own solo instrument, the piano. This transcription's primary function was to suffice for ballet rehearsal accompaniment for the choreography to be introduced alongside a performance of the orchestral work. György Sándor, Bartók's pupil and pianist, prepared the original manuscript for publication. Logan Skelton, pianist-composer, used this published edition as a point of departure for his own piano arrangement of the same work. György Sándor took an editorial approach to the score and followed the manuscript as literally as possible. On the other hand, Logan Skelton treated the same musical material daringly, striving for technical simplicity and a richer orchestral sound. The purpose of this study is to examine and identify the contrasting treatments pertaining to playability, text, and texture in the Bartók-Sándor edition and Skelton arrangement of the two movements, Elegia and Finale, of the Concerto for Orchestra piano arrangement.György Sándor took an editorial approach to the score and followed the manuscript as literally as possible. Analyse comparative de génomes complets de souches pathogènes et de portage de Staphylococcus lugdunensis et caractérisation du système de sécrétion Ess/type VII / Comparative analysis of whole genomes of pathogenic and carriage strains of Staphylococcus lugdunensis and characterization of the type VII secretion system

Lebeurre, Jérémie 20 December 2018 (has links)
The first part of this study consisted in whole genome sequencing of three pathogenic and three carriage strains of S. lugdunensis and comparison with the 15 genomes available in the NCBI. No genetic determinant was associated to the pathogenic or carriage context. However, we have highlighted the presence of mobile genetic elements and MultiLocus Sequence Typing clonal complex dependent variations within loci potentially associated with virulence. Variations wereobserved in the ess locus homologous to that of Staphylococcus aureus encoding the type VII secretion system (T7SS). We showed eight genetic organizations in this species with a clonal population structure. The second part of our work consisted in a phenotypic and molecular characterization of T7SS in S. lugdunensis by construction of a deletion essC gene mutant. This gene encodes a protein requiredfor protein secretion. Our results suggest that T7SS could be involved in translocation of proteins predicted as implicated in virulence in silico. Nevertheless, no virulence attenuation was observed in cells cytotoxicity assay and Caenorhabditis elegans virulence assays between wild-type and mutant strains which yet has lost the ability to lyse erythrocytes. We also developed and evaluated discriminating power of three new typing methods, which are very promising tools for the molecular epidemiology of S. lugdunensis infections.

Lukáč, Martin January 2021 (has links)
Univerzita Karlova - Filozofická fakulta - Ústav světových dějin ABSTRACT This paper discusses the development and state-of-the-art of writing local chronicles in the Czech Republic and Slovakia in the three decades after the fall of the socialist regime (1989 - 2019), placing Czech and Slovak chronicles writing practice on a comparative level. They are based on the Czechoslovak social context. This paper does not ignore also the historical context (19th century) and discusses in more detail writing local chronicles in various periods of the 20th century, as from this period draws current chronicles writing to this day. Besides the theoretical passages, the paper consists of an empirical part (not only as a section describing the field research in the form of a case study), suggests the use of chronicles in practice, and in conclusion seeks to explain and present a comparative synthesis. Following the textual core, a broader base of appendices has been prepared, consisting of both a chronicles bibliography and a direct transcript of contemporary legislative measures concerning chronicles writing in the Czech-Slovak geographical area from the establishment of the first Czechoslovak Republic to the present. Keywords : writing local chronicles; chronicle; chroniclers; commemorative books; comparative analysis;...
