'Imagens' da família nos contextos funerários: o caso de Atenas no período clássico / 'Images' of the family in the funerary contexts: the Athenian case in the Classical Period

Argôlo, Paula Falcão 16 March 2006 (has links)
The research that follows is focused on the investigation of the ways in which family groups expressed themselves within the funerary contexts of the Athenian polis from about 430 to the end of the fourth century. Defined by a set of remarkable changes registered in the archaeological material precisely in this period, the chronological span adopted follows thus the hints of material culture phenomena, all of them deeply interwined, suggesting that the family groups came up with a particular way of exposing themselves to social gazes. As a matter of fact, the development of new ways of burying, the equally new typical Attic tomb structures, as well as a freshly arising series of funerary monuments with new imagery (original and standardized at the same time) set the framework for the study of the historical category so-called ‘family’ by contemporary scholarship. We have chosen a set of archaeological evidences as a starting point so that it might help us to identify the main concepts and values created and performed by the families. We are interested in clarifying how the intervention of families in these spaces can lead us to the dynamic of its own reproduction and ultimately may be articulated to the fourth-century Athens and its particular historical moment.

Felipe Cardoso de Mello Prando 06 June 2016 (has links)
This research, developed in feld of Visual Poetics, consists of the exhibition \"Campo Neutral\", held in 2013 at the \"Museu da Gravura da Cidade de Curitiba\" (MGCC), Brazil, and a critical refection \"Campo Neutral: limits and tension between artistic and curatorial practices, and art institutions\", represented here as a deployment of the exhibition. For the construction of a critical report that analyzes the exhibition, the works there exposed and their contexts of production and reception, the thesis delineates a theoretical feld outlined by the relationship between institutional critique and precarious institutional contexts. Understood as a practice that establishes a critical relationship between speech and artistic and curatorial, and art institutions, institutional critique that, since the 1960s, is practiced and discussed by artists, curators, critics, and European and American historians, is a counterpoint to artistic and curatorial Latin American practices carried out in context of which the existence of institutions is uncertain, or absent, like the MGCC.

O português culto falado por alemães residentes na cidade de São Paulo: gramaticalização e contato entre línguas / The formal Portuguese spoken by resident germans in São Paulo: grammaticalization and contact between languages

Caroline Calderon Rezagli 31 March 2010 (has links)
This work presents the analysis of sentences that contain the preposition to (para) accompanied of verbs in the infinitive (to+infinitive), beginning subordinate sentences in speeches uttered by resident Germans in São Paulo, with the intention of establishing if all the sentences, in fact, constitute the idea of purpose, or if they have different semantic values. The corpus is constituted by occurrences that came from interviews with the referred Germans done by me. They are interviews of informal character without a preestablished theme. The structure to+infinitive was used in semantic contexts that question its purpose value, being ambiguous or presenting semantic fading. Those other meanings, more abstract, indicate the grammaticalization process in the Portuguese language spoken by those Germans. The final structure in the German language presents variations: um...zu and damit. Besides those structures, the form zu+verb in infinitive, according to Hochdeutsch (pattern German), for indicating verbs in the infinitive, simply, or subordinated sentences reduced of infinitive, also came in contexts that generated doubts about its significance, being, for that, considered ambiguous. That fact appeared for a grammaticalization process also in the German language. For there being more than an element in the German language translated for the Portuguese language with the meaning of the preposition to, I used translations (for German) of the corpus, as well as data of German blogs and German online newspapers, in order to establish comparisons for the development of the analyses. The purpose of this work is to contribute in the pedagogic process of teaching-learning of the German language while L2, demonstrating that there can be different semantic perceptions of syntactic structures not only of the students but also of the teachers when they produce speeches in L1 and in L2.

Corso, Kathiane Benedetti January 2013 (has links)
Given the possibilities that are offered by mobile technologies, the intentions of individuals who use the same idealize, and organizational realities at the time of the practices and experiences of use, conflicts may arise between users and technology. That is, while the evolution of technology brings progress they create social paradoxes that challenge people in personal and social spheres. This thesis aims to answer the following research problem: How the paradoxical use of mobile technology is manifested in the sociomaterial practices of managers in a Higher Education Institution? Specific objectives aims to: a) identify the usage profile of mobile technology managers; b) Investigate the different mobile contexts created by users of mobile technology arising from sociomaterial practices of use; c) Describe the manifestations paradoxes of the use of mobile technology experienced by users; d) Identify the strategies created by users to manage the paradoxes of use of mobile technology. Using a qualitative study we performed a case study at the Federal University of Pampa (UNIPAMPA), a Higher Education Institution (HEI). Twenty eight interviews were conducted in two stages with 19 managers, Directors and Academic Coordinators, of the Institution. We complemented the collection of data with direct observations made at a meeting of managers. It was possible to identify a mobile technology use culture in the Unipampa, specifically to notebook, there seems to be an unwritten rule that it must be loaded for all meetings, especially for those involving the displacement from one city to another. Also, there is an intensive use of e-mail, indicating that Unipampa an organization is “directed” by e-mail. Reports indicate that the pace of work is given by the flow of e-mails exchanged between the teams, in which the driving demands of the times, just sometimes overloading managers. The various mobile contexts that emerged in this study reveal that managers create and recreate these settings according to your preferences and rhythms, which will guide the practices of use of mobile technology. The mobile contexts created by managers show that those happen, mainly as a function of user intent to “shorten” or “lengthen” the time given user involvement in tasks. It was found that most of the paradoxes are felt regardless of the use of mobile technology to be the notebook or smartphone, but according to the email. This then becomes the determining factor for the formation of mobile contexts from different sociomaterial practices of use, thus revealing that the paradoxes are not only characteristic of mobile technology itself but the communication tool email. Most search strategies to deal with the paradox Freedom X Slavement in the conflict between being free, however, always available and connectable to the people seems to be the most fought. This conflict is managed through strategies of resistance as distance, ignore, suspension, neglect, or refute mobile technology.

No. of bitstreams: 1 João Henrique da Rosa.pdf: 3385861 bytes, checksum: f01fdf2a57917563fe8036952b98c2b8 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-01-01 / CNPQ – Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / Contexts prediction has been receiving considerable attention in the last years. Furthermore, this area seems to be the next logical step in context-aware computing, which, until a few years ago, had been concerned more with the present and the past temporal dimensions. There are many works regarding models for contexts prediction. Nevertheless, most of them employ the same algorithm for all cases. In other words, we did not find any approach that automatically decides the best prediction method according to the situation. Therefore, we propose the ORACON model. ORACON adapts itself in order to apply the best algorithm to the case. Moreover, the model supports other important aspects of ubicomp, such as, context formal representation and privacy. In this thesis, we describe the ORACON design and evaluate the model through two experiments, one using real data and the other employing simulated information.

Positive Psychological and Religious Characteristics as Moderators of Negative Life Events and Depressive Symptoms: A Multiethnic Comparison.

Visser, Preston Lee 19 December 2009 (has links)
Hope, optimism, and several markers of religiosity and spirituality were examined as potential moderators of the association between negative life events and depressive symptoms in a secondary data analysis of an ethnically diverse sample. Participants (267 female, 119 male) were college students enrolled at an urban Northeastern university. It was hypothesized that negative life events would be associated with increased depressive symptoms and that higher levels of hope, optimism, and religious and spiritual variables would attenuate this relationship. Ethnically-stratified moderation analyses were conducted to assess for differences in moderation between Blacks, Hispanics, Whites, and Asians. Hypotheses were generally supported, with some ethnic variation in findings. Although hope and optimism predicted decreased depressive symptoms in Blacks, Hispanics, and Whites, optimism was a significant moderator in Whites only. Measures of religiosity were significant moderators among Blacks as well as Whites. Clinical and research implications are explored based on the extant literature.

Predicting Behavior from Psychopathic and Antisocial Personality Traits in a Student Sample.

Stone, Maryann 03 May 2008 (has links)
Psychopathic personality is associated with a myriad of social and behavioral problems including violence, criminal activity, and overall failure to conform to social standards. In this study, psychopathic and antisocial personality traits are measured in a sample of college students via self-report surveys using questions derived from Hare's Psychopathic Checklist-Revised (PCL-R; 1991). Reliability and factor analyses were used to validate the inventory and create factor-based indices that were used to predict antisocial behavioral outcomes including violence, seeking revenge on persecutors, and suicidal ideation, in addition to other analogous and deviant behaviors. Findings showed a relationship between personality and behavior indicating that characteristics of one's personality may aid in the prediction and prevention of deviant behaviors. Implications for public policy, including the identification of traits that may be related to the propensity for such behaviors, are reviewed in the context of school shootings such as the incident at Columbine High School.

College Student Vulnerability to Harmful Religious Groups Based on Perceptions.

Dreher, Kevin Clark 12 August 2008 (has links)
This study was conducted in an attempt to understand which, if any, groups of college students are susceptible to cult influence based on false perceptions. Religion is a powerful practice that, if used for the wrong reasons, can influence a person to dissolve social and financial relationships with family, friends, and the surrounding community. Surveys were given to randomly selected cluster samples of students currently enrolled at the university. These surveys consisted of demographic questions and a scale designed to measure perceptions. Also devised was a scale to measure traits of depression. Both bivariate and multivariate analysis showed that the depression scale was more significant than the perceptions scale in measuring vulnerability.

An Examination into the Relationship between Self-Compassion and Parenting Styles

Hall, Jesi L 01 May 2015 (has links)
High self-compassion has been shown to provide many benefits for overall well-being. Some studies have suggested that the environment in which an individual grew up could have some effect on this trait in adulthood. The present research examined the relationship between the parenting style with which an individual was raised and their later adulthood self-compassion and compassion for others. It was hypothesized that the responsiveness of the parent would be directly related to the way that an individual learns to respond to themselves and others. Authoritative parenting style was expected to be related to higher self-compassion and compassion for others as it is characterized by parents who respond positively to their child. Authoritarian parenting was expected to be related to lower levels of each construct as it is characterized by negative responses to the child’s actions. It was found that both authoritative and authoritarian parenting styles are associated with higher levels of self-compassion. The two parenting styles considered to negatively affect children raised in the style, authoritarian and permissive, were found to be related to higher levels of compassion for others. Future research directions for the relationship are discussed.
