Souza, Eliane Kiss de January 2014 (has links)
A amostra correspondeu a 248 alunos e 16 professores. / The primary aim of this thesis is to analyse whether a short-term continued education programme designed to qualify teachers helps to improve third graders’ performance regarding number relations: additive composition and reasoning, and multiplicative reasoning and if any such improvement is maintained after six months. The theoretical review includes the development of the early mathematical skills and concepts, the strategies used to solve problems, the concept of early evidence-based teaching, the project “Ensinar é Construir” (Teaching is Building – NUNES et al., 2009), the Brazilian legislation concerning the guidelines for continued education and teacher qualification. Based on the concept of evidence-based teaching, information regarding the conceptual level of learners was gathered and, from this starting point, the continued education programme was planned. The method contemplated a correlational study of a quantitative scope for both the experimental groups (A and B) and the control group, which were comprised of third graders, and a continued education programme for the teachers of the experimental groups. Pre- and post-tests were applied to the students. The participating teachers were interviewed and completed a selfassessment form. The test applied to the students comprised ten questions, one per page, as follows: two additive composition questions; six additive reasoning problems, two simple problems regarding the relationship between the parts and the whole, two inverted problems regarding the relationship part-whole, and two problems of comparison; and two multiplicative reasoning questions. The results in the pre-test, applied in the first quarter of 2011, were used as a guideline for the organization of the continued education programme. The same test was reapplied as a post-test 1 after the continued education programme, and as post-test 2 six months later. The 14 teachers who participated in the continued education programme were divided into two groups A and B. Group A was made up of teachers obliged to participate and group B by teachers seeking professional development. The sample consisted of 248 students allocated into three groups according to the status of the teacher, obliged or voluntary participation: 93 students in experimental group A and 121 in experimental group B. The control group consisted of 34 students whose teachers did not participate in the continued education programme. Most of the students improved the process of learning the early Mathematical concepts. During the meetings of the continued education programme, theoretical and practical activities were undertaken. ANOVA showed there was a significant improvement in the results achieved by the students in experimental group B who also showed the highest percentage of economic strategy use in the post-test. The control group used uneconomic strategies, such as counting, to solve both pre- and post-test problems. Learning remained the same in both the control and experimental groups for six months. The study concludes that the continued education programme had a statistically significant influence on the performance and in the progress of the strategies used in problemsolving situations with additive composition, additive and multiplicative reasoning in the experimental group B, whose teachers participated of the continued education programme in search of professional development.

Leitura e ensino de ciencias/geociencias : algumas condições de produção do imaginário e discursos de professores / Reading and science/ geosciences teaching : some production conditions of imaginary and dicourse of teachers

Zimmermann, Narjara, 1983- 20 June 2008 (has links)

Discutem-se possíveis condições de produção que parecem estar se constituindo no desenvolvimento de um projeto colaborativo entre universidade e esta escola, por conta, principalmente, das especificidades da natureza do conhecimento geocientífico e do próprio projeto em desenvolvimento / Abstract: Supposing that teachers play a fundamental role on mediation of students reading practice and on their development as science readers, and assuming that this mediation is related to the teachers imaginary about reading, the present work had as main objective to understand some aspects of the production conditions of this imaginary by analyzing four teachers (from different subjectmatters - chemistry, geography, portuguese and biology - in a public school) discourses about reading and its relationship with science/geosciences teaching. Based on French Discourse Analysis, I analyzed reading significations produced by these teachers through semi-structured interviews, considering that these significations were produced in certain production conditions that embody an immediate context, the subjects and the situations, and the social-historic and ideological context. Through the analysis, I observed that these teachers imaginary is related, essentially, to personal aspects of their life histories plus initial and continued formation, as well as aspects of the work and interaction dynamics at the already mentioned school. On the teachers discourses, reading has acquired different roles, such as, for example: information source; text production activities; mediation of practices that aloud students¿ discussions and interpretations, in which student¿s ¿voices¿ become part of the process of knowledge construction in the lasses. All teachers refer to reading as important in their subject-matters, and they use different reading sources, including didactic manuals. Nevertheless, we have identified in their discourses some distinctions between the reading practices in the context of portuguese classes and the other subject-matters: this imaginary seems to be related to the predictability of scientific text reading, established through the historic relation of the construction and legitimacy of univocal scientific discourses. In general, the results show that the teachers¿ discourses about reading are related to significations presented at discourses produced on science teaching area of research and in official documents, such as the PCN. Moreover, some discourses that have reached this school, through two courses of continued formation followed by these teachers, appear to be related with the significations produced by the teachers. Finally, I discuss possible production conditions that appear to be constructed along with the development of a collaborative project between university and the school, due, specially, to the specificity of the nature of geosciences knowledge and the proper project itself / Mestrado / Mestre em Ensino e Historia de Ciencias da Terra

Therefore it is a research on the conceptions and motivations of Geography teachers. 14 (Fourteen) teachers, graduated in Geography, from the municipal schools of the south region of Goiânia, participated on this study on the first stage, answering a questionnaire in order to understand their conception of motivation, and then five among these teachers were selected to participate on the second stage, which is a semi-structured interview that aims to investigate their motivations during their classes. At a first moment, a bibliographic review was done on motivation as a current issue among Geography teachers, being the basis to the research Vigotsky and his followers. At second, a bibliographic review was taken from the main issues of the teachers who responded the questionnaire and were interviewed, such as The Geography Education, the current contributions of the Practice of Teaching, the identity of teachers, as well as their continued education and the motivation contributions for the teaching practice. At third, a brief presentation of the South Region of Goiânia was done with the intent to better comprehend the reality where the participant teachers act, and then the answers to the questionnaire are discussed in relation to their conceptions of motivation. And at forth, in order to approach the theory of motivation or non motivation of the Geography teacher, their motivations were analyzed. This work highlights the need for the increase of the value of the Geography teacher motivation during their practice as the public institution’s concern, the University’s and all its own components of the school context. Therefore to reach a better comprehension of Goiania’s formal education current context it is essential that the teachers’ motivations be considered. The better the understanding of the emotions of the educators, the bigger is the unveiling of the fan of human possibilities during the teaching-learning process.

Formação de professores do Atendimento Educacional Especializado para alunos surdos em São Bernardo do Campo / Continued education of specialized educational service teachers of deaf students in São Bernardo do Campo

Elaine Cristina Paixão 09 September 2016 (has links)
This research intends to study the continued education of specialized educational service (SES) teachers of deaf students in São Bernardo do Campo city. The investigation problem analyses the continued education and assistance of SES teachers of deaf students in this city. The objective is to discuss the continued education process of SES teachers of deaf students in inclusive education perspective in São Bernardo do Campo. It´s a qualitative research that used bibliographical review and empirical research, analyzing questionnaires given to SES teachers of deaf students, to continued educators (technical orientation and manager team) and Secretary of Education team. In order to consider the history and Special Education current context, continued education of teachers and the education of deaf students we approached,on the five chapters of this study, the Special Education historical course in Brazil and in the city studied, an overview of the history of deaf education and the teachers continued education, and specifically the specialized educational service teachers of deaf students.Wefinally consider that the continued education of teacher issue and, specifically the continued education of special education teacher one is complex and challenging for educational systems all over the world. Therefore, it does not seem to be a simple discussion for teachers, continued educators and managers of the city studied. We find out that, there is a continued education proposal in the city, but it presents some fragilities regarding its systematic and constancy. We also observe that it´s important that on the continued education process, everybody involved is clarified about the proposal, including the concept which will ground the formative action. On a scenery that shows the need of transforming the educator´s practice on their work with deaf students, considering the inclusive educational paradigm, and presents few researches on the subject, it´s fundamental that teachers search for the answers to their daily challenges by studying and reflecting their own practice. Thus it´s important the existence of a continued education and assistance for teachers in a systematic way, so they feel supported on the search for an understanding which fulfill the challenges of inclusive education for deaf.

Its main objective was to investigate the impact of existing continued education school for the development of pedagogical practices of teachers in teaching organized in cycles. The survey was conducted on a qualitative approach, using content analysis procedures. Document analysis and semi-structured interviews were used for its design. The theoretical context of the continuing training of teachers received contributions from authors such as LIMA (2001); GATTI (2003); BARBIERI, CARVALHO E UHLE (1995); ALARCÃO (1998); FUSARI E RIOS (1995); MARIN (1995); FREITAS (1999, 2002, 2007) and for the analysis of teaching organized in cycles MAINARDES (2001 , 2005, 2007 , 2009) ; MITRULIS e BARRETO (1999, 2001 ) ; FREITAS ( 2002a , 2002b , 2003) , among others. It is concluded from the study, continued education in the country has been characterized by an immediate compensatory and design, embodied in actions and streamlined and surface courses , often in distance mode, need more in depth discussion on the continuing education as an instrument of professionalization and the school as a site for development . Might also conclude that the Basic Education Unit searched the school is considered as a priority site for continuing education and has its organization and development centered on the figure of pedagogical coordinator, however, the material conditions, the design and the methodology applied in actions existing continuing education at the school have had an unsatisfactory impact in terms of development of the pedagogical practices of teachers in teaching organized in cycles .

The present dissertation aims to analyze the development of the School Learning Management Program (GESTAR II) in the Cristo Rei School, of the Pernambuco State Education Network, within the period from 2010 to 2011, through continued education meetings on the Portuguese Language. The choice of this particular school unit is due to its emphasis and development on the participation of the Portuguese teachers present in the continued education meeting offered by the program. In order to perform the investigation, we chose to make use of semi-structured interview with the participants in the educators group, with the group of course teachers, and with the management teams in the State Department of Education of Pernambuco and Federal University of Pernambuco, who are responsible for the GESTAR II educational meetings. After the analysis of the data, we find the process of development of the program in the Cristo Rei school was hampered due to the absence of effective communication between the management teams responsible for the implementation of the program in the state of Pernambuco. As a conclusion, in the third chapter, we present a Plan of Educational Intervention, directed at the Cristo Rei school, aiming at the improvement in the daily execution of the program.

The Path to Translating Focus of Attention Research into Canadian Physiotherapy

Hussien, Julia 21 June 2023 (has links)
For over two decades, research has shown that providing instructions and feedback to promote an external focus (i.e., mentally focusing on movement effects or outcome) leads to enhanced motor performance and learning, compared to an internal focus (i.e., mentally focusing on the muscles and joints, or movement kinematics). Notably, while a majority of the research has been on healthy young adults, the external focus benefit has also been found to extend to individuals recovering from musculoskeletal dysfunction. Despite the potential benefit of an external focus for rehabilitation, observational studies have revealed that physiotherapists provide their clients with more internal, than external, focus statements and have little awareness of the focus of attention literature. Consequently, the end goal of this doctoral research was to translate the focus of attention research findings into Canadian physiotherapy practice through the design, delivery and assessment of an educational workshop for practicing physiotherapists. With this in mind, the first step became to determine whether such a workshop was warranted by assessing the self-reported focus of attention provision by Canadian physiotherapists. Thus, in Study 1 a study-specific questionnaire, titled the "Therapists' Perceptions of Motor Learning Principles Questionnaire" (TPMLPQ), was designed and completed by 121 Canadian physiotherapists. Results showed an overall low relative frequency of self-reported external focus promotion (M = 31.3%, SD = 14.9), across six hypothetical rehabilitation scenarios. Markedly, descriptions of a functional reaching (M = 55.5 %, SD = 37.0) and pelvic floor task (M = 65.6%, SD = 32.9) resulted in a greater self-reported promotion of external, than internal, focus of attention. These results suggested that Canadian physiotherapists could benefit from an educational workshop on focus of attention, and that there was a potential task dependency for their focus of attention promotion. Study 2 employed virtual one-on-one interviews with eight Southern Ontario-based physiotherapists, all whom completed the TPMLPQ just prior to the interview. The first few questions gathered participants' perceptions on factors that influence physiotherapists' focus of attention use, as well as barriers to promoting an external focus and potential solutions to them. Coding of the interview data generated four themes related to factors that influenced focus of attention use: (1) physiotherapist experiences and characteristics, (2) client experiences and characteristics, (3) task characteristics and (4) focus of attention statement provision strategies. Moreover, the barriers to external focus promotion were organized into three themes: (1) educational experiences, (2) reinforcement of internal focus encouragement once in practice and (3) research aspects. All interviewed physiotherapists proposed continuing education on focus of attention as a solution to these barriers. Questions in the second half of the interview garnered input on how to get physiotherapists to attend a focus of attention workshop, and what activities to include before, during or after the workshop to promote physiotherapists to use more externally focusing statements in their practice. This information was used to inform the workshop design and delivery. In addition to the physiotherapists' input, I also considered previous research that has emphasized the importance of evidence-based training programs to be based on theoretical frameworks. In this regard, Bandura's social cognitive theory was selected as a theoretical foundation. Further, knowing that the target population for the workshop consisted of adults with higher education, Knowles' adult learning theory was also selected as a complimentary theoretical foundation. Additionally, the Kirkpatrick model for training evaluation was selected to guide the assessment of the workshop, due to its strong overlap with constructs from both theoretical frameworks adopted. A final contribution to the workshop design process was holding a virtual group session with four focus of attention researchers in order to gain input on workshop content. The final workshop product consisted of two parts: seven self-directed asynchronous website modules and a synchronous virtual group session. Ultimately, in Study 3, the workshop was delivered to fifteen Canadian physiotherapists. In addition to completing the two workshop components (asynchronous and synchronous), participants completed assessment packages at three time points: (1) one-week pre-synchronous workshop, (2) immediately post-synchronous workshop, and (3) one-week post-synchronous workshop. Analysis of the data revealed a chain of evidence supporting the merits of the workshop. Explicitly, physiotherapists reported high satisfaction (Mdn = 4.60), perceived relevance (Mdn = 4.83), and engagement in the workshop (Mdn = 4.83). Comparing one-week pre- to immediately post-workshop, analyses revealed significant improvements to physiotherapists' (1) scores on the knowledge assessment (pre M = 51.30%, SD = 22.30; post M = 84.30%, SD = 11.50; p < .001, d = 2.06) with an accompanying decrease in the uncertainty in their responses (pre M = 23.19%, SD = 18.05; post M = 1.16%, SD = 1.99; p < .001, d = 1.28), (2) relative frequency of externally focusing to total focus of attention statements created on the skill assessment (pre M = 18.23%, SD = 13.17; post M = 67.95%, SD = 25.13; p < .001, d = 2.11), (3) self-reported attitudes towards learning and practice of external focus promotion (pre M = 88.25, SD = 11.00; post M = 92.83, SD = 6.59; p = .024, d = 0.56) and self-efficacy (pre M = 59.50, SD = 22.36; post M = 85.72, SD = 7.95, p < .001, r = 0.86). Using descriptive statistics, physiotherapists reported that participating in the workshop allowed them to increase their encouragement of external focus adoption (M = 79.00, SD = 15.14). Thirteen of the physiotherapists reported that they believed that their use of externally focusing statements led to improvements in their clients' rehabilitation outcomes (n = 13; M = 68.08, SD = 22.13), while the other two physiotherapists noticed no difference. Finally, those 13 physiotherapists also reported a high intention to continue to provide external focus statements in their practice (M = 87.31, SD = 15.09). In the context of social cognitive theory, these findings suggest that the workshop was successful in strengthening the physiotherapists' behavioral capabilities, self-efficacy, and outcome expectations, suggesting that the behavior change self-reported by the physiotherapists (i.e., more external focus promotion) could extend beyond the short-term assessment period used here. The whole of this doctoral research acts as a powerful step on the pathway to translate focus of attention research into Canadian physiotherapy, and also provides a useful framework for future studies aiming to translate motor learning research into the field - in Canada or globally.

[en] The present master s thesis aims to analyze the Permanent Education Policy of the CFESS/CRESS as a strategy for (re)affirming the Ethical-Political Project of Social Work. Because of the environmental degradation in which the world finds itself, there are many discussions that point to environmental education as one of the ways to revert this scene. Proposals of courses and projects for environmental education are multiplying as a means of teaching alternative pedagogical procedures and practices for creating a new environmental attitude. The objective of this study was to evaluate the change in values and behavior of a group of teachers that took a course specializing in the Education of Environmental Educators given at a university in the state of S?o Paulo during 2002. Data, collected by means of a semi-structured questionnaire, was interpreted according to presuppositions of the analysis of content. Two categories were defined "a priori": the environment and environmental education, and the education of the teacher/researcher. We were able to show that there was a change in concepts of environment and environmental education, respectively, in six of the eight teachers interviewed. Regarding the education of teacher/researchers, six of them said they had experienced a change of concept in their pedagogical practices, but only three changed their behavior. Regarding the means to promote environmental education, six teachers indicated the involvement of the practice of participative-research-action that was used during the course. Keywords: Environmental Education; Continued.
