This thesis delineates the transformation of Iran’s so-called post-revolutionary ‘religious intellectuals’ (rowshanfekran-e dini) from ideological legitimators within the political class of the newly-established theocratic-populist regime to internal critics whose revised vision for the politico-religious order coalesced and converged with the growing disillusionment and frustration of the ‘Islamic left’, a constellation of political forces within the governing elite of the Islamic Republic, that following the death of Ayatollah Khomeini increasingly felt itself marginalised and on the outskirts of power. The historical evolution of this complex, quasi-institutionalised and routinized network, encompassing theologians, jurists, political strategists and journalists, which rose to prominence in the course of the 1990s, and its critical engagement with the ruling political theology of the ‘guardianship of the jurist’, the supremacy of Islamic jurisprudence, political Islamism and all forms of ‘revolutionary’ and ‘utopian’ political and social transformation, are scrutinised in detail. In this vein, the thesis examines the various issues provoked by the rowshanfekran-e dini’s strategic deployment and translation of the concepts and ideas of a number of Western thinkers, several of which played a pivotal role in the assault on the ideological foundations of Soviet-style communism in the 1950s and 1960s. It then moves to show how this network of intellectuals and politicos following the election of Mohammad Khatami to the presidency in May 1997 sought to disseminate their ideas at the popular level by means of the press and numerous party and political periodicals, and thereby achieve ideological and political hegemony. The thesis proceeds to demonstrate the intimate connection between the project of ‘religious intellectualism’ and elite-defined notions of ‘democracy’, ‘electoral participation’, ‘reform’ and ‘political development’ as part of an effort to accumulate symbolic capital and assert their intellectual and moral leadership of the polity.

Dans cette thèse, nous avons répondu à certaines questions ouverts dans le domaine de la dynamique hors équilibre des systèmes quantiques unidimensionnels fermés. Durant ces dernières années, les avancées dans les techniques expérimentales ont revitalisé la recherche théorique en physique de la matière condensée et dans l'optique quantique. Nous avons traité trois sujets différents et en utilisant des techniques à la fois numériques et analytiques. Dans le cadre des techniques numériques, nous avons utilisé des méthodes de diagonalisation exacte, l'algorithme du groupe de renormalisation de la matrice densité en fonction du temps (t-DMRG) et l'algorithme de Lanczos. Au début, nous avons étudié la dynamique quantique adiabatique d'un système quantique près d'un point critique. Nous avons démontré que la présence d'un potentiel de confinement modifie fortement les propriétés d'échelle de la dynamique des observables en proximité du point critique quantique. La densité d'excitations moyenne et l'excès d'énergie, après le croisement du point critique, suivent une loi algébrique en fonction de la vitesse de la trempe avec un exposant qui dépend des propriétés spatio-temporelles du potentiel. Ensuite, nous avons étudié le comportement de bosons ultra-froids dans un réseau optique incliné. En commençant par l'hamiltonien de Bose-Hubbard, dans la limite de Hard-Core bosons, nous avons développé une théorie hydrodynamique qui reproduit exactement l'évolution temporelle d'une partie des observables du système. En particulier, nous avons observé qu'une partie de bosons reste piégée, et oscille avec une fréquence qui dépend de la pente du potentiel, au contraire, une autre partie est expulsée hors de la rampe. Nous avons également analysé la dynamique du modèle de Bose-Hubbard en utilisant l'algorithme t-DMRG et l'algorithme de Lanczos. De cette façon, nous avons mis en évidence le rôle de la non-intégrabilité du modèle dans son comportement dynamique. Enfin, nous avons abordé le problème de la thermalisation dans un système quantique étendu. À partir de considérations générales, nous avons introduit la notion de profil de température hors équilibre dans une chaîne des bosons à coeur dure. Nous avons analysé la dynamique du profil de temperature et, notamment, ses propriétés d'échelle / In this thesis we have addressed some open questions on the out-of-equilibrium dynamics of closed one-dimensional quantum systems. In recent years, advances in experimental techniques have revitalized the theoretical research in condensed matter physics and quantum optics. We have treated three different subjects using both numerical and analytical techniques. As far as the numerical techniques are concerned, we have used essentially exact diagonalization methods, the adaptive time-dependent density-matrix renormalization-group algorithm (t-DMRG) and the Lanczos algorithm. At first, we studied the adiabatic quantum dynamics of a quantum system close to a critical point. We have demonstrated that the presence of a confining potential strongly affects the scaling properties of the dynamical observables near the quantum critical point. The mean excitation density and the energy excess, after the crossing of the critical point, follow an algebraic law as a function of the sweeping rate with an exponent that depends on the space-time properties of the potential. After that, we have studied the behavior of ultra-cold bosons in a tilted optical lattice. Starting with the Bose-Hubbard Hamiltonian, in the limit of Hard-Core bosons, we have developed a hydrodynamic theory that exactly reproduces the temporal evolution of some of the observables of the system. In particular, it was observed that part of the boson density remains trapped, and oscillates with a frequency that depends on the slope of the potential, whereas the remaining packet part is expelled out of the ramp. We have also analyzed the dynamics of the Bose-Hubbard model using the tDMRG algorithm and the Lanczos algorithm. In this way we have highlighted the role of the non-integrability of the model on its dynamical behavior. Finally, we have addressed the issue of thermalization in an extended quantum system. Starting from quite general considerations, we have introduced the notion of out-of-equilibrium temperature profile in a chain of Hard-Core bosons. We have analyzed the dynamics of the temperature profile and especially its scaling properties

L’observation de la présence des arts non verbaux au cœur des œuvres de Marguerite Duras, Lawrence Durrell, Elfriede Jelinek et Péter Nádas nous invite à considérer la musicalité et l’iconicité des écritures dramatiques et romanesques contemporaines en termes de modèle mais aussi de dispositif. Des phénomènes de dialogue, d’hybridation, de polyphonie, de dialogisme, d’intermédialité, de ce que Jacques Rancière nomme « l’impurification » au cœur d’un « régime esthétique de l’art » révèlent les rêves, désirs et pulsions du verbal pour d’autres arts, mais aussi pour des représentations à l’artisticité discutable. La fabrique d’un corps organique, sexuel, érotique voire pornographique par les écritures contemporaines nous convie à envisager le métissage entre art et non-art en termes de dispositif performatif et à proposer une lecture queer des œuvres. À l’heure du postmodernisme, le recours des écritures au non-verbal se donne à lire à la fois comme la manifestation d’une crise du logos et de la représentation et comme l’enjeu d’une rénovation esthétique et politique de la littérature. Qu’ils modélisent le verbal ou fassent brutalement irruption et déchirure en son sein, les arts non verbaux concourent au renouvellement des formes littéraires, mais aussi à leur politicité et au renouveau de la fiction. Cette étude ambitionne donc d’explorer le carrefour esthético-politique que dessinent, entre le milieu du XXe siècle et ce début de XXIe siècle, les relations plurielles entre les arts verbaux et non verbaux dans l’art verbal par excellence, la littérature. / The observation of the presence of non verbal arts within the works of Marguerite Duras, Lawrence Durrell, Elfriede Jelinek and Péter Nádas leads us to examine the musicality and the iconicity of contemporary dramatic and novelistic writings in terms of model, pattern and devices. Dialogue, hybridization, polyphony, dialogism, intermediality, and what Jacques Rancière calls “impurification” within the “Aesthetic Regime of Art”, display the dreams, desires and longings of verbal art for other arts, but also for representations whose artistic content is arguable. The fact that contemporary writings produce an organic, sexual, erotic, even pornographic body invites us to focus on the interactions between arts and non-arts with regard to their performative devices and to propose a queer reading of the works. In Postmodernism, the fact that writings draw on non verbal forms can be understood as the expression of the failure of Logos – both language and reason – and of representation. Moreover, what is also at stake is an aesthetic and political reform of literature. Whether they tend to impose new verbal models or break into them, non verbal arts contribute not only to reshape literary forms but also to emphasize their political substance and renew their fictional content. This dissertation aims to investigate the crossroads between aesthetics and politics that the various relationships between verbal and non-verbal arts display, from mid-20th century to the beginning of the 21st century, within Literature, the verbal art par excellence.
