Karl Holl’s interpretation of Luther’s concept of religion is based on his theoretical understanding of will. The research literature has often overlooked the fact that this foundation itself is based on a theory of emotions. The psychological implications of his interpretation of Luther, which are merely implied by Holl, can be decoded in the context of contemporary research, in this article on the basis of work by Hermann Siebeck and Reinhold Seeberg. In this way, this article systematically highlights the complex structure of Luther’s concept of religion, as interpreted by Holl, with regard to its conceptual history.

Die Texte des Elijazyklus (1 Kön 17 - 2 Kön 2*) haben im Rahmen der Monotheismusdebatte besondere Aktualität erlangt und neue Fragestellungen hervorgerufen. Antworten auf diese weitreichenden religionsgeschichtlichen Fragen an alttestamentliche Texte sind aber ohne exakte Textanalysen nicht möglich. Ziel dieser Dissertation ist es deshalb, diese unumgängliche Basisarbeit für den Anfang des Elijazyklus 1 Kön 17 und 18 zu leisten, der von jeher der Exegese viel Schwierigkeiten bereitet und kontroverse Debatten nach sich gezogen hat. Diese konzentrieren sich auf das literarische Problem der Textfolge: Sind also diese Einzelüberlieferungen noch erkennbar und literarisch rekonstruierbar, oder liegen sie im traditionsgeschichtlichen Dunkel der Vorgeschichte der Texte verborgen? Diese Fragen der neueren Auslegungsgeschichte stehen auch am Ausgangspunkt dieser Dissertation und bilden ihren forschungsgeschichtlichen Rahmen. In der vorliegenden Studie soll bei diachroner Sichtweise der Texte ihre Primärgestalt herausgearbeitet und sprachanalytisch ausgewertet werden, wobei eine Konzentration auf die Analyse der Schichtung innerhalb der Einzeltexte erfolgt. Abschließend können drei Themenkreise benannt werden, die insgesamt sieben Einheiten kompositionell übergreifen und mögliche Ordnungsprinzipien bei redaktioneller Vereinheitlichung der Texte darstellen. Den eigentlichen Schwerpunkt der Arbeit bildet der zweite analytische Schritt der literaturwissenschaftlichen Methode, die Formkritik. Diese Untersuchung verläuft auf den klassischen vier Ebenen des Grammatikaufbaus von WOLFGANG RICHTER: Analyse der Wortebene, der Wortfügungsebene, der Satzebene und der Textebene. Hier wird das literarische Urteil formanalytisch überprüft und die Schwerpunkte und Ziele der Einzelheiten streng am Sprachbefund bestimmt. Im Gesamtergebnis der Arbeit kann als zusätzlicher Ertrag die Vielfalt des Prophetenbildes in der Textfolge von 1 Kön 17.18 gewonnen und ein kontrastreiches Elijabild beschrieben werden. / The texts of the Elija cycle (1 Kings 17 to 2 Kings 2*) have become especially topical in recent discussions of monotheism; this has resulted in novel theological aims and objectives. But it is impossible to respond to such farreaching historical and religious questions concerning the Old Testament without a meticulous analysis of the Old Testament texts themselves. The aim of the present thesis is therefore to provide this indispensable basis, by an analysis of the incipient Elija cycle, i.e. 1 Kings 17 und 18, texts which have always presented great difficulties to exegesis, and involved much controversial debate. Such queries have concentrated on the the literary problems of this sequence: The question is therefore whether the individual strands of tradition can still be discerned. Can these strands be reconstructed, or have they been irretrievably buried in the obscure prehistory of the text? These queries of recent exegetical history constitute the starting point for the present thesis, also denoting its background in the framework of current research. In a diachronic approach, as a first analytical step, the present study intends to bring out the original shapes of the texts, and evaluate them in a linguistic analysis, concentrating on the layer structure of the individual texts.Three areas of composition are shown to be discernable, which encompass seven textual units and constitute potential principles of organization on which the eventual editor may have based himself to unify the present Old Testament text. The study focusses, however, on the second analytical step, namely the critical evaluation of the literary form proper. The present study follows the classical four grammatical levels distinguished by WOLFGANG RICHTER, pursuing analyses on the level of the word, on the level of the phrase, on the level of the clause viz. the sentence, and on the level of the text. It is in this area that the literary verdict is examined in terms of formal analysis; focal points and detailed aims of the investigation being determined strictly according to the linguistic diagnosis here attained. An additional overall result of the study is the multifaceted image of the prophet, rich in contrasts, as it emerges from the sequence of 1 Kings17-18.

Henri J.M. Nouwen (1932-1996), a renowned pastoral theologian, has written more than 40 books among which several are about pastoral care and the spirituality of pastoral care. It was interesting for me to notice the parallel between his life and the contents of his books. He has undergone a tremendous personal development and spiritual maturity. His books invite all the christians and pastors to grow in the spiritual life. The spirituality is the underlying principle of creative ministry. Nouwen moves away from the traditional approach and concepts and develops his own concept of spiritual growth and pastoral care. Rooted in tradition and trained as a pastoral psychologist Nouwen is very appealing to the modern generation. This dissertation takes the reader through the life and writings of Nouwen to come to his original and new understanding of the spirituality of the pastoral care. / Henri J.M. Nouwen (1932-1996), ein renommierter Pastoraltheologe, hat viele Bücher geschrieben, darunter einige wichtige über das Pastoral und die Spiritualität der Seelsorge. Der Inhalt seiner Bücher weist eine Paralellität zu seinem Lebenslauf auf. Er lässt seine Leser an seiner spirituellen Entwicklung teilhaben. Seine Bücher laden Christen und Seelsorger zum reifer werden ein. Für ihn ist eine solide christliche Spiritualität das Fundament der schöpferischen Seelsorge. Nouwen schätzt die christliche Tradition, setzt aber neue Akzente. Meine Arbeit bemüht sich den Leser zu begleiten durch das Leben von Nouwen und seine Bücher. Ein Einblick in seine originelle und für die modernen Menschen aktuelle Konzeption hilft dem Leser über sein eigenes Leben nachzudenken.

Die Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Frage der Witwen im lukanischen Doppelwerk auf dem Hintergrund der sozialgeschichtlichen Lage der Witwen in der hellenistisch-römischen Gesellschaft der Antike. Nach einem Überblick über den Forschungsstand wird die historische Lage der Witwen in der Antike untersucht. Anschließend analysiert der Verfasser die einzelnen Perikopen im Evangelium (Lk 2,36-38; 4,25f; 7,11-17; 18,1-8; 20,45-47; 21,1-4) und in der Apostelgeschichte (Apg 6,1-7; 9,36-43) zunächst abschnittsweise und dann in einem narratologischen Überblick. Dabei wird jeweils die Botschaft des Lukas an seine Gemeinden auf den Hintergrund der gesellschaftlichen Situation herausgearbeitet. Abschließend wird die Gesamtbotschaft des Lukas in Bezug auf die Witwenfrage für seine Gemeinden in der hellenistisch-römischen Gesellschaft noch einmal zusammenfassend dargestellt. Der neutestamentliche Autor Lukas möchte mit seiner häufigen Erwähnung von Witwen auf das Bedürfnis dieser sozialen Gruppe hinweisen, die oft einer prekären Lage ausgesetzt ist und für die es im hellenistisch-römischen Umfeld keine besondere Aufmerksamkeit gibt, besonders wenn es sich um arme Witwen handelt. Im Gegensatz dazu kennt die biblische Tradition eine besondere Fürsorge für die Witwen. Lukas möchte seine Gemeinden für diese biblisch-jüdische Tradition sensibilisieren, besonders da im christlichen Umfeld festgestellt wurde (Apg 6,1-7), dass diese Fürsorge und Sensibilität nicht automatisch in christliche Gemeinden Einzug gehalten hat. In dieser Hinsicht macht er durch seine Perikopen die Christen seiner Gemeinden auf die Problematik und Chancen des Witwendaseins aufmerksam. / The thesis is treating the question of the widows in the double opus of Luke on the background of the social situation of the widows in the Hellenistic-Roman society of antiquity. After a review about the status of research the author analysis the historic situation of the widows in antiquity. Then he analysis the single pericops in the Gospel (Lc 2,36-38; 4,25f; 7,11-17; 18,1-8; 20,45-47; 21,1-4) and the Acts (6,1-7; 9,36-43), first the single pericops and then in a narrative review. Thereby the message of Luce to his communities on the background of the social situation every time is elaborated. At the end the complete message of Luce on the question of widows for his communities in the Hellenistic-Roman society is recapitulated. Nominating often the widows the new testament author Luke wants to indicate the need of this social group which frequently is living in a precarious situation and which doesn’t find particular attention in the social environment of the Hellenistic-Roman world, especially if these widows are poor. On the contrary the biblical tradition knows a special care for the widows. Luce wants to sensibilize his communities for this biblical-jewish tradition, also because in the christian environment it was noticed that this care and sensibility had not been introduced automatically (Acts 6,1-7). In this regard through the pericopes he guides the attention of the christians in his communities on the problems and chances of the live of the widows.
