Struwig, Ockert Jacobus January 2004 (has links)
The problem statement for this study is found in the relation between the community of believers and the service of the deacons. The aim of the study was to show the close relation between the terms koinonia and diakonia. In this Practical Theological study the method of Zerfass was used. By means of a literature search basis-theoretical principles were formulated. Through a hermeneutical interaction between the basis-theoretical principles and the meta-theoretical perspectives new practical-theoretical guidelines were established. In Chapter 2 basis-theoretical principles were formulated from Scripture and other literature. The meaning of the terms koinonia, diakonia and diakonos were traced as well as the use of the terms in the Old and New Testaments. With regard to this matter the focus was on Acts 6 as locus classicus for the institution of the office of deacon with special reference to the "Seven". The use of the terms in the church history and the church tradition is studied by way of literature studies, after which the use and application of the terms in the Reformed Churches of South Africa are discussed. In Chapter 3 the metatheoretical perspectives were compiled through study of the sociology and social welfare as ancillary subjects. The similarities were indicated. An empirical study in the Reformed Churches of South Africa showed that the terms koinonia, diakonia and the service of the deacons were undefined. In Chapter 4 some practical-theoretical guidelines were given with reference to the hermeneutical interaction between the basis-theoretical principles and the metatheoretical perspectives. The final conclusion in Chapter 5 stressed the close connection and relation between the community of believers and the service of the deacons. The relationship between believers, stems from their relationship with God. Therefore people who would earnestly like to do something for God, should be guided, equipped and involved by the deacons to serve each other. This diakonia must, in turn, serve to initiate and stimulate koinonia. In the practical implementation of this, the office of the deacon finds its niche. / Thesis (M.Th. Narrative structures in the works of Paul the Deacon

Heath, Christopher Timothy January 2013 (has links)
Paul the Deacon wrote at a time when the Regnum Langobardorum was on the cusp of downfall and attachment to the Carolingian empire. Paul’s narratives (the Historia Langobardorum in particular) have become vital sources for Italian medieval history and a window on the world of the eighth century in the West. Recent approaches to Paul have projected modern perceptions onto his works in the quest to identify his politico-ethnic viewpoint. Consequently his personal ‘voice’ has been lost in modern treatments. The narrative structure of his work, and analysis of the kind of dramatic events that interested him, are areas that have hitherto been largely ignored by scholars. This thesis seeks to provide the context for both Paul’s Life and Works and to present an analysis of what it was that Paul actually said rather than trying to conjure an analysis from what he did not say. It will demonstrate that there is not only a ‘multi-vocality’ within the works of Paul, but links, connections, even contradictions that in themselves serve to present and show Paul’s singularity as both a writer and an individual in challenging times for both him personally and for Italy generally. Yet analysing Paul by using Paul alone is a teleological cul-de-sac and thus this thesis will seek to compare his narrative approach with that of other early medieval authors.

Lotynų ir bizantinio rito apeigų diakonato ypatumai Katalikų Bažnyčios teisėje / The peculiarities of latin and byzantine rite deaconships in the law of catholic church

Mazrimas, Svajūnas 22 June 2011 (has links)
Deaconship has been present in the history of Church from the time The Acts of Apostles were written, therefore, it is regarded a very old service. The essence of this service is helping bishops and priests during liturgy, pastoration, and in caritative activities. The work The Peculiarities of Latin and Byzantine Rite Deaconships in the Law of Catholic Church addresses some historical aspects resulting in the differences between the legal rights awarded to deacons serving in Eastern and Western Churches. This became an internal issue of Catholic Church when a part of Eastern Church has unified with The Holy See. Respecting these Churches, The Holy See had not initiated changes are following their own law. The differences between this law and the law of Western Church is n outcome of historical processes having taken place in Eastern and Western Christianity, therefore, the major focus in this work is put on the development of deaconship, especially in the Greek Catholic Church of Belarus and Greek Catholic Church of Ukraine. As distinct from other Eastern Churches, both these Churches are historically closely related with Lithuania and Catholic Church in Lithuania.

We intend to investigate Lc 10,38-42 and Rm16,1-2, emphasizing Marta and Febe at the deacon minister. The reason was to recover the history of women s deacon in the socio-politics context of the first century, around the year 30 B.C., as Marta at the Jesus movement. The dissertation was subdivided in four chapters. We discuss Febe and the deacon minister around the years 56-57, date of the letter to the Jewish- Christian in Rome. We believe that these women played the same deacon activities in diverse time at the original Christianity. Febe did not follow, served Jesus and has not been healed by Him, because Jesus acted around the year 30 B.C. However, Febe was a deacon at the Paulinas Communities. We hope that the subject under study may bring new perspectives for future researches.

Tokmakov, Pavel 13 June 2018 (has links) (PDF)

Figueiredo, Suely Mara Ribeiro 26 May 2017 (has links)
This thesis presents the theories of the cognitive scientist and Berkeley anthropologist Terrence Deacon in relation to language and mind. To this end, it begins by characterizing his language model as a phenomenon originated concomitantly with intentionality and social organization. It then describes the association between this origin and the emergence of a symbolic insight in a hominid brain, an insight that concerns the perception of the iconic and indicial representation structure and the application of this same structure to virtual and shared signs. Next, the processes of interpretation and learning and the cognitive mechanisms involved in the language, highlighted by the author, are presented, mainly in relation to the critics that weaves to Chomsky's innate universal grammar, Pinker's language instinct and non-representationalism of Maturana, Varela and Gibson. To present Deacon's mental model, this thesis first discusses his concept of emergency, with which he claims to have solved the hard problem of the philosophy of mind; then, introduces his theory of information, which treats information as a constraint to be locuted by a cognitively inferred meaning. The work then presents, from these preliminary concepts, Deacon's theory of mind that is characterized, primarily, by the understanding of how homeodynamic constraints foster the emergence of morphodynamic constraints that, in turn, allow the emergence of teleodynamic constraints that, at their highest level, configure subjectivity and intentionality. Deacon gives emotion a prominent place by teleodynamically expressing the incompleteness that moves us. To construct his theories, Deacon enters the philosophical debate on teleology and presents his arguments on how the eliminativist materialists, among them Dennett, can not explain the origin of intentionality from his computational models of the mental phenomenon. The thesis concludes that the models of language and mind in Deacon enrich the current debate, but its unprecedented and potentially revolutionary theories of emergence and information are the most relevant to the author's philosophical contribution.

Deacons working within the Swedish protestant church and welfare. : A qualitative study of the relationship between deacons working within the Swedish protestant church and social work.

Axetun, Karin, Rydberg Nilsson, Anna January 2012 (has links)
This study discloses the responsibility of social work for the Swedish welfare state respective deacons in the Swedish protestant church, which roll the Swedish protestant church have in the existent welfare and also if deacons experience any expectations and how these expectations in that case are expressed. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationbetween deacons working within the Swedish protestant church and social work, as it appears for professional deacons. The method of investigating the questions raised by the aim of this study has been qualitative analysis of answers derived from six deacons working in different workplaces. The data derived from these interviews was then analysed through the theory of Gösta Esping-Andersen about welfare states and also through background research and earlier science research about the social work within the Swedish protestant church and other social work. The result of the study show that the welfare state in Sweden has the comprehensive responsibility for the citizens. Deacons working within the Swedish protestant church does not have the same responsibility. Instead deacons usually provided the supplementary social work as regarding existential questions. Different conditions, for example laws and regulations is something that is different regarding the social work that deacons and other authorities in the society performs. Our study also shows that sometimes when the official welfare is insufficient the deacons partly can fill up for this. The deacons in our study experience that there are high expectations from the people in society regarding the social work that deacons performs. There are also expectations from other performers of social work in the welfare as well as from the church itself, although these look a little bit different and are not as clear and explicit. The problem with the expectations is that they are not always realistic which depends on relatively bad knowledge about the social work the deacons perform. When the social work that deacons perform is within the church characterized by Christian ethos a result can be that in meeting with other social work a tension arise which leads to challenges for the different performers of social work.
