Attitudes towards infection control among dental health care professionals / Infekcijų kontrolė odontologijoje odontologinės sveikatos priežiūros specialistų požiūriuRimkuvienė, Jūratė 30 June 2011 (has links)
The oral flora is one of the most ecologically diverse microbial populiations known to man. It has been proved that any dental intervention: dental preparation, professional oral hygiene, extraction of teeth, regular prophylactic examination of patient‘s mouth is related with a possible spread of infection. Therefore, one of the most important tasks for the dental care professionals is to prevent the spread of infection and create safe environment for a patient, the dentist himself and other dental staff
The aim of the present study is to identify and evaluate the attitudes of Lithuanian dental health care professionals towards infection control and carried out infection control procedures, and to determine vaccination frequency against hepatitis B among dental health care professionals.
The study highlighteningt the dental health care professionals‘ attitude towards infection control and infection control procedures as well as incompliance of infection control procedures with the valid normative documentation was conducted at the Institute of Odontology, Faculty of Medicine, Vilnius University in 2008-2010. All 2,235 Lithuanian dentists, registered in the Lithuanian Dental Chamber Registry in 2008 and carrying general practice dentist‘s license, all 1,814 dental assistants and all 370 dental hygienists registered in 2010 (according to the database of the Lithuanian Dental Chamber Registry) were invited to take part in the investigation.
Responsabilidade civil do cirurgião dentista: o pós-tratamento ortodôntico / The dentist surgeon´s civil responsability: the orthodontic post-treatment.Fernando Fernandes 14 December 2000 (has links)

A profile on alcohol consumption among South African dentists : a dentist’s perspectiveOlivier, Jan Hendrik 31 May 2009 (has links)
Abstract A profile on alcohol consumption among South African dentists – A dentist’s perspective: JH Olivier Background This study investigated alcohol use linked to the stress of a selected sample of South African dentists. The only other related topic in South Africa, that the researcher could find, was done in 1996 at the University of Stellenbosch. The literature suggests that prevalence studies of substance use and abuse rarely include dentists. Methods A dominant quantitative approach with a less dominant qualitative approach was utilized. The quantitative-descriptive design (survey with a questionnaire) was used to obtain data with regard to biographical/background information, stress and coping, quantity and frequency of alcohol use, and dysfunction as a result of alcohol use among a randomly selected sample of 110 South African dentists with a response rate of 70%. The respondents’ perspective on alcohol use linked to the stress of the dental profession with recommendations were also obtained. For the qualitative data collection, the researcher utilized the collective case study. He planned semi-structured interviews with an interview schedule with five dentists that have already had treatment for alcohol abuse or were self-characterized as problem drinkers. Unfortunately, two of the respondents who characterized themselves as heavy alcohol users died before they could be interviewed. Because of ethical reasons and the sensitivity of the topic they could not be replaced. Findings The quantitative study indicated that: (1) the respondents experienced significant amounts of occupational stress (2) the majority of the respondents do physical exercise to reduce their stress (3) a great number of respondents socialize with friends to reduce their stress (4) some respondents actually use alcohol to reduce their stress (5) stress levels of the respondents in private practice and stress levels of the respondents in other sectors are the same (6) alcohol consumption of male and female dentists is the same (7) respondents who reported less areas of stress consumed more alcohol than those who reported more areas of stress (8) a great number of the respondents experience high stress levels but do not use alcohol, or they only use alcohol to socialize (9) less than 3% of the respondents reported that alcohol use has affected their work as a dentist (10) the majority of the respondents believe that some dentists consume alcohol as a coping mechanism concerning social anxiety, occupational stress and personal factors. The qualitative study indicated that: (1) the habit of alcohol use that may lead to alcohol dependency starts at university (2) the respondents, who had treatment for alcohol dependency, experienced high levels of occupational stress (3) the respondents link their dependency directly to the stress and strain of their profession. Conclusions There are more intense and less intense stressors among South African dentists and there are some dentists that consume alcohol to relieve the stress and strain of their profession. However, the majority only use alcohol as a way of socializing. Less than 3% of the respondents reported that alcohol use has affected their work as a dentist. Recommendations Modules on coping mechanisms linked to the stress and strain of the dental profession should be included in the curricula at dental schools. The compulsory CPD programme of the HPCSA should include stress management and healthy coping mechanism courses. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2009. / Social Work and Criminology / unrestricted

confirmação e/ou monitoramento do perfil sorológico decorrente da vacinação contra hepatite B. / This search supposed that it had a high incidence of dentists with low vaccine covering for hepatitis B and a positive for previous or current contact for the virus hepatitis of type B. The transversal study evaluated the vaccines condition and serum profile of the dentists for viral hepatitis of type B in Porto Velhos city in Rondonias state Brazil. eighty samples of blood (serum) of the resident surgeons had been analyzed by the ELISAs technique of the dentists in Porto Velhos city, to only find out about the serums detention markers of the Virus of hepatitis B: HBsAg, anti total HBc, anti-HBc IgM and anti-HBs. The positive samples anti Total HBc had been tested for the marker anti HBc IgM. And also it had been analyzed at the lab
findings with data of professional formation, equipment used as an individual protection (EPI) and vaccine index between the professionals. The data had been compared using the test Kruskal-Wallis ( p< 0,05) from the people that had been participated. As a result we can say that from dentists analyzed, 45% were in a general clinical and 38% told that to bring up to date once a year. Most of them (59%) received three quantities against Hepatitis B and 11% only with two quantities. Between the people that received three quantities, showed another serum due to the vaccine. Although the number was not expected, most of the dentists from Porto Velho received three doses of the vaccine which it caused immunity. However, the serum profile nor always it was compatible the vaccine covering. Our findings suggest the necessity of execution of labs tests for confirmation and/or a
coordination of the serum profile of the vaccination against hepatitis B.

/Rocha, Suelen Alves. January 2019 (has links)
(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: Introduction: To proactively enact public policies which address the ageing process is an effective way for Western countries to tackle the demographic transition. However, few countries have public health programs that enable older people to access oral health care, for example, without financial barriers. Only in 2004, the Brazilian oral health public policy started to offer universal and comprehensive oral healthcare in the Unified Health System (SUS). Thus, this research aims to analyze the oral health policy operationalization throughout the elderly’s experiences with oral health care access at the primary health care, the dentists’ experience in providing care, and the managers’ experience with the implementation and consolidation of this policy. Thus, it is questioned: - Can the Brazilian elderly access oral health care in the SUS? - How does the national oral health policy project oral health actions at the local level? General objective: To analyze the operationalization of the Brazilian oral health policy based on the meta-synthesis of the experiences of dentists, elderly and oral health policy managers. Specific objectives: (a) understand the experience of elderly people attended by the Family Health Units (FHUs), the dentists’ experience in assisting them, and the municipal and federal managers’ experience with the Brazilian oral health policy; (b) propose theoretical models of each experience and; (c) elaborate metasynthesis from the theoretical models emerging, ...
Objective: To determine the association between amalgam perception and the use of biosafety barriers when removing such material by odontologists from Lima-Peru.
Materials and methods: The sample was composed of 196 general dentists and/or specialists from the Dental College of Peru and from a University Health Center. Amalgam perception and the use of biosafety barriers were tested through a survey which consisted of 12 questions, and whose reliability was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha giving a value of 0.94. In addition, the Chi-square and Fisher´s exact tests were used to associate these variables. The significance level was set as p< 0.05.
Results: Regarding amalgam perception, a total of 41.84 percent of dentists declared it to be safe; while 58.16 percent of them declared it to be unsafe. However, statistically significant differences were found only in the association of air- conditioning filter change and the amalgam safety perception variable (p=0.038).
Conclusions: No association was found between amalgam perception and the use of biosafety barriers when removing it. Furthermore, only 1.02 percent of the respondents were carrying out regular monitoring of mercury. Consequently, emphasis is placed on the need of implementing academic courses about amalgam toxicity and biosafety barrier methods during its manipulation. / Tesis

The research aims to develop a solution to facilitate planning and development of educational activities through a taxonomy of professional competencies in health. It is based on two key concepts: professional skills for health and educational goals. These concepts are explored from the perspective of the development of a taxonomy to be used as a planning framework and development of courses for teachers and education professionals in general, by Higher Education Institutions. Considering the multiplicity of health professionals working in the Family Health Strategy in the context of primary health care, it was necessary to choose one of the professions to build up the model, and for that, we choose Dentistry. However, the model can be applied to the development of taxonomies that address the skills of other professionals, including nurses and physicians. The main issue of the research is: taking the practice of multidisciplinary teams involved in developing educational activities, limited by the tight deadlines that often are imposed on them, is it possible to enhance the integration of state of the art knowledge developed in the academic world with the health professionals\' learning needs The expected result of the research is a taxonomy relating the dentists professional skills with the Bloom\'s Taxonomy of educational objectives(1).
