Life Cycle Stage and Length of Residence as Determinants of Residential Stress

DiFrancesco, Richard John 04 1900 (has links)
<p> Residential stress is a key concept within residential mobility studies. Considerable research, in the past, has been devoted to the task of actually measuring, and quantifying residential stress. </p> <p> Many factors which affect residential stress have been outlined, however, the absolute effect of these factors, and their relative strengths are not known. Many suggest that this is mainly due to the fact that previous research designs have not provided adequate control over extraneous variance, there by preventing the isolation of the effects of individual factors. </p> <p> The body of literature in residential mobility studies exhibits this apparent lack of methodological rigidity through the occurrence of certain inconsistencies in the literature. An example of such an inconsistency deals with the relationship between length of residence and residential stress. studies have been done which actually support the "cumulative inertia hypothesis", that is stress decreases with increasing length of residence, while others have provided evidence for the "cumulative stress hypothesis", that is, stress increases with increasing length of residence. </p> <p> The present study is designed around the recognition of the need to develop and implement a methodology that would alleviate the seemingly contradictory findings presented in the mobility literature. The problem being addressed is to establish the separate and joint effects of life cycle stage and length of residence on residential stress, these being two factors identified in past studies as potentially important determinants of stress. The main findings of the study were that both life cycle stage, and length of residence have significant separate effects on residential stress. Also, when length of residence was introduced as a covariate with life cycle stage in an analysis of covariance, the variation in stress explained by life cycle stage decreased substantially, with length of residence having the greater predictive power. </p> / Thesis / Bachelor of Arts (BA)

Intervalové lineární a nelineární systémy / Interval linear and nonlinear systems

Horáček, Jaroslav January 2019 (has links)
First, basic aspects of interval analysis, roles of intervals and their applications are addressed. Then, various classes of interval matrices are described and their relations are depicted. This material forms a prelude to the unifying theme of the rest of the work - solving interval linear systems. Several methods for enclosing the solution set of square and overdetermined interval linear systems are covered and compared. For square systems the new shaving method is introduced, for overdetermined systems the new subsquares approach is introduced. Detecting unsolvability and solvability of such systems is discussed and several polynomial conditions are compared. Two strongest condi- tions are proved to be equivalent under certain assumption. Solving of interval linear systems is used to approach other problems in the rest of the work. Computing enclosures of determinants of interval matrices is addressed. NP- hardness of both relative and absolute approximation is proved. New method based on solving square interval linear systems and Cramer's rule is designed. Various classes of matrices with polynomially computable bounds on determinant are characterized. Solving of interval linear systems is also used to compute the least squares linear and nonlinear interval regression. It is then applied to real...

Landry, Alexandra 11 1900 (has links)
This study was part of the project entitled "Food choices of Canadian adolescents and attitudes of coaches involved in organized sports". The objectives were to assess in athletes involved in a provincial sport competition where the food supply is controlled 1) their compliance to dietary recommendations 2) the individual, behavioural, social-environmental factors influencing their food choices. Two observers visited food services and competition sites during the 2011 Quebec Games in Valleyfield. The athletes’ trays were photographed at the table during mealtime with a digital camera. Oral comments were collected. A total of 173 photographs were analyzed and compared to recognized sport nutrition recommendations. In this study, food preferences, food supply and teammates were the factors that influence the most food choices in competition. However, the sex of the athletes observed did not influence their food choices. 85,4% of the trays of the pre-game meal showed an energy value above the recommendations and 66,3% of them showed an inadequate distribution of macronutrients, regardless of gender. An excess of lipids and proteins within the pre-game meal characterized the trays when energy distribution was not optimal (69,5%). Recommendations in the post-competition phase (100%) and during rest days (95,8%) were easily met. The same observation can be made for hydration (99,4%). Chocolate milk is the most popular drink (59,5%). Grain products (99,4%), milk and alternatives (87,3%), vegetables (85,7%), meat and alternatives (83,2%), foods rich in sugar (79,8%), fruits (70,5%) and meals rich in fat (59,4%) are especially appreciated by athletes. Comments from the athletes dividing foods into "good" or "bad" showed a dichotomous view of food. Our study shows that established food policies help to promote healthy eating habits and to encourage consumption of nutritious foods during a major sporting event. However, nutrition education is still required to reach an improved food behaviour of athletes before exercise.

Determinants of quality of life in adults with diabetes

Imayama, Ikuyo 11 1900 (has links)
The overall purpose of this thesis was to identify determinants of quality of life in adults with diabetes mellitus. This thesis consists of two studies. The first study tested a comprehensive model which comprised of personal, medical and lifestyle factors to explain quality of life in adults with type 2 diabetes. The model was tested with two concepts of quality of life: health-related quality of life and life satisfaction. The second study (1) tested the comprehensive model in adults with type 1 diabetes; and, (2) examined the interaction effects of diabetes type (i.e., type 1 diabetes /type 2 diabetes) on significant determinants of quality of life in the combined type 1 and type 2 diabetes group. The findings of this study identified subgroups that may be at risk for impaired quality of life and topics that require further investigation.

This fact forces the Public Administration to process the public bidding for the purchase of goods and services to meet society demands. Thus, moving up a significant part of the economy, around 10% to 15% of the GDP in Brazil. The procurement process is imperative to the achievement of Public Administration objectives. It is important to emphasize that it will be possible to get the reduction of the public expenditure and the stakeholders satisfaction, only achieving efficiency on this process of purchasing and service contracting. In order to contribute to fill gaps in the scientific literature, this study analyses the data of 3.310 public biddings in Goiás State during 2012 to 2016, in the Electronic Procurement. The study aimed to identify the determinant factors of the efficiency of the Electronic Procurement, considering the analysis of Celerity and Economy. After the descriptive analysis, univariate analysis, such as the correlation of X2 and Pearson correlation, and multivariate analysis, such as the Multiple Correspondence Analysis – MCA and Hierarchical Cluster Analysis – HCA, the results showed that the determinant factors of the efficiency in Electronic Procurement are the following: a) nature of the expenditure, consumption or permanent; b) quantity of items in the process; c) biddings exclusively for micro enterprises – ME and small business – EPP; d) the size of the winning company in the bidding process, ME and EPP or any other; e) the administrative organization, direct and indirect public administration; f) municipal and state/federal election year; g) amount of the intended expenditure. This study contributes to fill in part of the theoretical gap on the multivariate analysis of the determinant factors in the performance of public procurement processes.

The non-cancellation groups of certain groups which are split extensions of a finite abelian group by a finite rank free abelian group

Mkiva, Soga Loyiso Tiyo January 2008 (has links)
>Magister Scientiae - MSc / The groups we consider in this study belong to the class Xo of all finitely generated groups with finite commutator subgroups. We shall eventually narrow down to the groups of the form T)<lw zn for some nE N and some finite abelian group T. For a Xo-group H, we study the non-cancellation set, X(H), which is defined to be the set of all isomorphism classes of groups K such that H x Z ~ K x Z. For Xo-groups H, on X(H) there is an abelian group structure [38], defined in terms of embeddings of K into H, for groups K of which the isomorphism classes belong to X(H). If H is a nilpotent Xo-group, then the group X(H) is the same as the Hilton-Mislin (see [10]) genus group Q(H) of H. A number of calculations of such Hilton-Mislin genus groups can be found in the literature, and in particular there is a very nice calculation in article [11] of Hilton and Scevenels. The main aim of this thesis is to compute non-cancellation (or genus) groups of special types of .Xo-groups such as mentioned above. The groups in question can in fact be considered to be direct products of metacyclic groups, very much as in [11]. We shall make extensive use of the methods developed in [30] and employ computer algebra packages to compute determinants of endomorphisms of finite groups.

An Empirical Evaluation of OLS Hedonic Pricing Regression on Singapore Private Housing Market

Mo, Zheng January 2014 (has links)
The empirical paper studies the relationship between property value and hedonic attributes. To indentify the determinant characteristics the influent the private real estate price, their degrees of significance and help with the valuation procedure, 8870 private residential property transactions with caveats lodged across country are selected from Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore. 40 models are tested and RMSE, R-Square, Adjusted R-Square, F-Value tests are performed to discover the overall fitness of the models. Breusch-Pagan F-Test is performed to test the existence of heteroskedasticity and VIF test to check multicolinearity. Z score is performed to check the spatial autocorrelation. Three founding are discovered. Firstly, size, age, floor level, population density level, latitude and construction status are core attributes resulting from the regression. Secondly, new district zones classified by functions are detected instead of 28 administrative districts. Thirdly, government policies and local customs (Feng Shui) are proven to be determinant variables as well. Two suggestions are given to regulate the market in the end of this article.
