Evaluation of street vendors¡¦ satisfaction towards the Kaohsiung government¡¦s street vendor management policies, using Liu-Ho Night Market as an example.

Huang, Shu-huei 01 July 2008 (has links)
Abstract Street vendors have long existed and with societal changes, their business hours have changed and they have developed into stand owners in night markets. However, most consumers consider night markets chaotic, badly organized, and ill managed. As a result, the authorities concerned thought it necessary to reorganize licensed street vendors into an area which, along with the surrounding locality, could be transformed into a recreational and tourist spot. This research, based on the evaluation of Liu-Ho Night Market¡¦s licensed street vendors satisfaction towards the government¡¦s management policies, was conducted through questionnaires. In them, were questions about the management of street vendors and guidance offered to them. Researchers used SPSS as their analytical tool as well as statistical methods; including credit analyses, variable factor analyses, descriptive analyses, and examination of the independent sample ¡§t¡¨. The analyzed results are as follows: 1. The street vendor¡¦s gender made no difference in the amount and effort of the management of street vendors and guidance provided to them. 2. Street vendors of different ages at Liu-Ho Market have quite different points of view towards their devotion to work. 3. Street vendors with different educational backgrounds have various points of view towards permanent management while holding no particular points of view toward the government¡¦s guidance and management systems. 4. Street vendors of different lengths of management experience, types of business, and street vendors with different numbers of employees hold no obviously different points of view towards devotion of work management and guidance to them. 5. Apparently, street vendors devotion to their business at Liu-Ho Night Market is in proportion to the amount of the government¡¦s management systems and guidance provided to them. We will delve into explanations and discussions.

Henry Suso and Richard Rolle: Devotional Mobility and Translation in Late-Medieval England and Germany

Rozenski, Steven Peter January 2012 (has links)
Henry Suso (c. 1295-1366) and Richard Rolle (c. 1300-1349) were two of the most popular authors in late-medieval England and Germany: their Latin works survive in hundreds of manuscripts owned by both lay and religious readers across Europe. Authority and exemplarity are central to their works, both writers present themselves as eponymous characters in their works, creating "pseudo-autobiographies" which offer their author-characters to the reader as ideal exemplars for imitation. Also central to their authorial strategy is their attention to feminine aspects of both divinity and audience; both imagine themselves as brides of Christ even as they pledge their devotion to Wisdom, a (female) combination of the Old Testament Goddess and Christ incarnate. The imagery of courtly love is employed both as an enticement for readers and as a natural extension of their internalization of the allegorical interpretation of the Song of Songs; their claims to bear the name of Jesus on their heart lead to iconographic crossover in representations of Rolle in English manuscripts. Music and aurality are repeatedly employed as a fundamental aspect of their descriptions of mystical experience. Suso was read widely in late-medieval England, both in Latin and in English translation; as his popularity grew, so too did his influence on English literature and theology. The chapters of the Horologium Sapientiae on the Eucharist and the art of dying well proved especially popular. Two Carthusians, Nicholas Love and the author of the Speculum Devotorum, for instance, both drew on Suso's treatment of the Eucharist in reinforcing orthodox beliefs surrounding the sacrament of the altar – yet a recently-discovered independent translation of the same text is found in a manuscript otherwise containing Lollard tracts. Suso's liturgy in honor of Eternal Wisdom proved his most popular and enduring contribution to English literature: it entered Sarum Use Books of Hours by the end of the fifteenth century and was printed in English translation towards the end of the sixteenth.

Geertgen tot Sint Jans's Night Nativity: A Study in Female Spirituality Practices

McGee, Kimberly B 11 August 2015 (has links)
The Night Nativity by Geertgen tot Sint Jans depicts the birth of Christ in a manner that emphasizes the role of the Virgin as mother and Christ as the enlightener of the world. In this paper, I will argue that the Night Nativity was directed primarily toward meeting the devotional needs and interests of the nuns of the Convent of Our Lady of the Visitation near Haarlem. This convent is of particular interest because it is associated with the Windesheim Congregation of the Modern Devotion, which was a religious movement that privileged certain forms of lay spirituality. In particular, the adherents of the Modern Devotion seemed to have preferred various forms of affective devotion often associated with “women’s spirituality.” Geertgen’s image, I believe, appealed to the women in the convent because it focuses on the role of the Virgin and, in doing so, activated well-known tropes of female spirituality.

The emphases of the theory of folkcommunication have been used as references in research, methodologically, bibliographical research and field research, where it was applied to the participating observation, with the intention of recognizing the imaginary operant in the life of the faithful devout present in their practices. The analysis reveals that the cultural complexity generates various forms of communication, within which lies the popular religiousness, that is to the life of the faithful devout, a legacy full of spirituality and humanitarian richness that manifests itself within the culture of the simple people, specially touching on the subject of the existential dimension. This result contributes to the enrichment of folkcommunicational studies that concerns itself with the popular devotion as a form of communication with the holy.

This work is a historical research on the process of construction of the devotion Nossa Senhora Aparecida do Vagão Queimado of Ourinhos, state of São Paulo. The beginning of the cult date of 1954, year where an image of Nossa Senhora Aparecida was found unbroken in a burnt wagon, and if extends until our days. However, this research analyzes the discontinuities and contradictions of this devotion that was only consolidated after the erection of the diocese of Ourinhos in 1999. It explains this complex passage through the meaning processes of a sacred one in the scope of the historical relation between local and central church, or either, enters the Church Catholic of Ourinhos, the Church Catholic of Brazil and The Vatican. It still points with respect to the religious and identity creation inherent to this devotion as resulted of a continuous process of symbolic negotiation between Institution an Worshippers form practical and the representations of the community ourinhense catholic. Moreover, it demonstrates the repowered of the devotion to the Mary in the Brazilian Catholicism contemporary, its local and global uses, in times of modification in the ways to believe and to organize the faith.

Esculpindo na alma do povo a imagem viva de Cristo : a ação do Pe. Francisco Geraedts, S.C.J.

Marlon Anderson de Oliveira 00 December 2009 (has links)
In Brazil, the proclamation of the Republic triggered changes between the Church and State, one of the most important being the dissolution of the Padroado. The State became secular and the Church, an independent institution. As a consequence, the Church was strongly influenced by the romanization movement, characterized by more control of the Roman Cúria on the Church in Brazil. Simultaneously with the development of romanized catholicism, expressions of faith and popular devotions multiplied in various places in the country, necessitating new directives by the Church. In this context, the work of some congregations like the Fathers of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was remarkable. Our study analyzes the pastoral work of one of their members, Fr. Francisco Geraedts. With carism, creativity and dynamism, he accomplished a formidable work in the Parishes of Colônia Leopoldina (AL) and Água Preta (PE). The incentive to devotions and the arts, united to his missionary spirit were important components in the activites of this Priest who even today, is considered to be a popular saint by the people of those communities.
