Individual Differences in Adolescents’ Driving Practice during the Learner Stage

Zhao, Yinan 13 May 2016 (has links)
The implementation of Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) policies has reduced the rate of car crashes among adolescents. However, limited research has focused on adolescents’ supervised driving during the learner permit stage of GDL. The study aimed to describe supervised driving practice during the learner permit stage and to test predictors of individual differences in the amount and the quality of supervised driving. 183 adolescents (M age = 16.4 years, 54.1% female) and their parents (84.1% mothers) participated. Adolescents reported driving an average of 25 minutes per day. Adolescents living in single-parent households, with less family income, and with a stronger motivation to drive reported more daily driving. Adolescents with a stronger motivation to drive reported driving in more settings. Discussion focuses on implications for developing effective driving-specific parenting strategies and helping to enrich adolescents’ supervised driving experiences.

The Gladiators of the OMXSPI : What are the key drivers trailing the durable performance?

Cullhed, Jakob, Olsson, Fredrik January 2019 (has links)
Background and problem: The impact on the stock market of macroeconomic factors have been analyzed in several earlier studies. These are forces constantly changing and thereby they contribute to changing the supply and demand of stocks. The fact that macroeconomic variables have affected the top performing stocks of the OMXSPI during 2004 – 2018, in terms of performance, plays an important part of the study. Different authors have recognized different factors to affect the stock price development and there has not yet been established an explanation of the determinants of stock prices. Purpose: The purpose of the study was to identify the stocks that continuously have had a development superior to the OMXSPI, and therefore have contributed the most to the development of the OMXSPI during 2004 – 2018. Moreover, the study analyzes the drivers that have contributed to the performance of these stocks. Furthermore, the study clarifies which factors that have contributed to the development of the P/E and the EV/EBITDA of the top performers. Methodology: The study followed a quantitative and deductive approach. The Swedish stock market was analyzed with a focus on the OMXSPI were the top performing stocks of this index were identified through a screening process. Moreover, the top performers were put against the OMXSPI in different time periods to compare the performance. Furthermore, multiples of these top performers and the sectors which they trade in were calculated in order to compare the multiples to each other, with the purpose of analyzing them relative to each other in different time periods. Conclusion: From the findings it could be established very similar patterns between the top performers and the OMXSPI. The difference mainly being that the top performers in every sequence experienced a superior development than the OMXSPI, but also greater declines during short sequences. Moreover, the tables displayed remarkable returns of the top performers and the aggregated top performers traded at premium levels in all analyzed time periods.

Galloping to markets far away : A multi-case study on Stockholm based tech start-ups internationalisation, including barriers and drivers influencing the process.

Masso, Mimra, Olander, Matilda Sofie January 2019 (has links)
Firm internationalisation has been a broadly examined subject, which has generated various established theories. Previous business activities are described as structured, incremental and predictable, which has enabled the development of frameworks that describe how the business internationalisation is conducted. Today’s technological advances, globalisation and changes in demographics are contemporary environmental forces of change, and the Swedish tech industry is growing in a steady phase. The tech start-ups internationalise rapidly and from an early age but in various ways, and therefore, reflecting diverse internationalisation theories to different extents. The wave of tech start-up is increasing and are seemingly operating in an unconventional manner and contradicts well-known theories, leaving scholars in the search for profound understanding about this phenomenon. Consequently, lack of previous research based on tech start-ups internationalisation processes has provided motivation for this study, with the intention to provide knowledge to companies and contribute with new theory angles to the existing literature. The purpose with this study was to fill the research gap on tech start-up internationalisation by investigating and analyse how the Stockholm-based tech start-ups internationalise, what barriers and drivers they have encountered while pursuing the expansion as well as, how these have affected the internationalisation. The literature review emphasises on internationalisation theories as well as, barriers and drivers of the internationalisation process and is summarised with a conceptual framework. The study was conducted through a qualitative case study including four companies of, which all four had established international operations and therefore, generated insightful information about the subject. Moreover, interviews with founders and CEOs of the companies were conducted through semi-structured approach, which including questions related to their internationalisation process and the barriers and drivers. The empirical data was thereafter organised and paralleled with previous theories as well as, with the authors' considerations. Finally, the conclusion highlight answers to the research questions and provide theoretical and practical implications, as well as suggestions for further research.

Environmental Change in South Central Chibuto Southern Mozambique 1965-2000

Ombe, Zacarias Alexandre 01 March 2007 (has links)
Student Number : 9707731W - PhD thesis - School of Geography, Archaeology and Environmental Studies - Faculty of Science / Southern Mozambique has experienced changes in land-use and land-cover over the last 45 years. South Central Chibuto is a dynamic environmental change ‘hotspot’ of this region, and because of the socio-economic development that is taking place it is unveiling a number of land-use changes in Mozambique. In this research, environmental changes in the region are shown to be a function of various socioeconomic and biophysical drivers of change. A variety of research methods including interpretation of aerial photographs and satellite images, analysis of archival material, Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) and structured interviews, have been used to derive some of the drivers of environmental change. These drivers of change include socio-economic factors, the colonial dual economy and the increase in cash crop production that led to negative impacts on some lands in the steep slopes of the ancient dunes, the post-independence policy of nucleation of settlements that has induced extensive conversions of land use together with the war and the recent shifts into a market economy that have led to further intensification of land use. The biophysical drivers include, among others but not limited to, fluctuations in rainfall, with periods of alternating dry and wet spells shaping land-use change, as well as single shock events, such as extreme droughts and floods. New factors, including the HIV/AIDS pandemic and globalization have been identified as having an impact on the livelihoods in the study area. A valuable, local-scale case or place-based case study approach is shown to enable a detailed and rich analysis of the complex trajectory of environmental change. Finally, lessons drawn from this study are shown to have the potential to inform policies for sustainable livelihoods in Mozambique.

Coopetition in a regulated market : A study of motivational factors and risks in coopetition

Hennig, Sofia, Malmsten, Anna January 2019 (has links)
Coopetition, the activity of competing firms cooperating, comes with both benefits and risks for the parties involved. The approach to studying coopetition differ among scholars, however the phenomenon continues to be relevant in the area of research with several articles published in recent years. While coopetition has gained momentum in research, what drives coopetition is still argued to be an area that needs further development. Research on coopetition in regulated environments, is especially called for. Therefore, this study has the purpose to explore what motivational factors and risks in coopetition may apply to a regulated market. A case study was conducted by looking into two ongoing coopetition relationships in the Swedish eHealth market. The findings show that there are previously identified motivational factors and risks that are relevant in the context of a technological and regulated market. The study contributes with two propositions that suggest that customer demand and occasional low competitiveness are motivational factors for coopetition in a regulated market. Additionally, the findings resulted in two propositions that enclose financial risks and cultural differences as risks.

"Desenvolvimento de pesquisa-ação com caminhoneiros de estrada: trabalhando na problematização as questões voltadas à sexualidade, DST/AIDS e drogas" / Development of Research-Action with truck drivers: working about the problematization and the questions related to the sexuality, STD/AIDS and drugs. 2003.

Nascimento, Evania 19 December 2003 (has links)
The truck drivers constitute a group of great geographical mobility through the cargo transport that requires many days and until months far from their family and home too. The loneliness that they are conditioned, lead some these professionals to vulnerability and to keep sexual relations during their journeys through the highway. Thus, this study aims to investigate the vulnerability factors among truck drivers to the risk of HIV/AIDS’ contamination. The methodology utilized in this study was the quanti-qualitative method that had as the reference the research-action and the Paulo Freire’s problematization method. The data were collected in the months of January to February 2003 through the semi-structured interview. Fifty truck drivers were interviewed in the cooperatives that served as place to this study. The analysis of the quantitative data was based on descriptive statistic and the qualitative data through the Bardin’s method (1979). The results indicate that the truck drivers have knowledge about the several aspects of AIDS’ transmission, but many of them involve to sexual relations in the highway without use of condom. On the other hand, the use of alcohol and amphetamine (to reduce the sleep) is present in the daily life of some them and constitute vulnerability factors in the stop points to rest where the use of alcoholic beverages facilitates the sexual relations together whores. At last, we can conclude that the watched behaviors among the truck drivers are founded in socially built principles based on the culture of masculinity leading many of them to involve in sexual relations or just adventure without use of condom to show their virility all time, becoming them so vulnerable to STD/AIDS.

O desgaste mental de motoristas de ônibus: um recorte de gênero / Female bus drivers mental strain

Almeida, Tassia Bertoncini de 17 October 2018 (has links)
Finalmente, o modo como elas veem a si mesmas e as outras mulheres também se mostrou como um fator central no processo saúde-doença / The main purpose of this research was to investigate the relation between mental strain in female bus drivers of São Paulo and gender. The theoretical support is Edith Seligmann-Silvas Mental Strain Theory. It intended to understand the possible influences of gender and their relations in the process of mental strain at work. The methodology is qualitative and is divided into stages. The first consisted of observation of the daily work of these drivers. The second part was the semi-structured interviews. It was possible to understand the works organization of the drivers, besides highlighting the ways the signify their work and the gender relations in it, to understand their consequences in the process of mental exhaustion. The conclusion was the mental strain processes contains specificities related to gender issues. The structure of bus stops and vehicles, the routes organizations and relations in work environment, impact women health in a particular way. The sexual division of labor and the conciliation of house work and labor are a challenge to these women. Finally, the way they see themselves and other women is also central to the mental health process
