Sua diversificada aplicabilidade aliada ?s dificuldades de obten??o faz com que esse material tenha um alto valor comercial. Um dos principais minerais de onde pode-se extrair l?tio ? o Espodum?nio. Industrialmente, o principal processo de obten??o do l?tio do espodum?nio ? a extra??o via ?cido sulf?rico. Tal processo gera como subproduto uma grande quantidade de res?duo s?lico-aluminoso que n?o possui destino final, sendo em sua maioria armazenados em aterros ou deixados ao ar livre. Foram estudados neste trabalho, diferentes procedimentos de s?ntese buscando diferentes estruturas zeol?ticas como uma maneira de agregar valor a este res?duo industrial. Seguiu-se como base a receita tradicional de cada estrutura fornecida pela ?International Zeolite Association? (IZA) modificando-a com a adi??o do res?duo s?lico-aluminoso. Os materiais sintetizados foram caracterizados atrav?s de difra??o de raios-X e microscopia eletr?nica de varredura (MEV). Foi poss?vel sintetizar ze?litas MER, EDI e MOR com alta cristalinidade e fase ?nica, sendo a primeira vez em que estas estruturas s?o obtidas atrav?s do res?duo s?lico-aluminoso proveniente da extra??o do l?tio do mineral espodum?nio. Outros materiais, tais como ze?lita LTA, foram obtidos, mas com pouca cristalinidade ou com mais de uma fase presente. Estudos complementares de otimiza??o desta s?ntese se fazem necess?rios. / Lithium is one of the elements that have a high commercial interest, precisely because of its features that allow use in lithium ion batteries, medicines, alloys, among other applications. Its diverse applicability allied to obtain difficulties makes this material has a high commercial value. One of the major minerals which can extract lithium is spodumene. Industrially, the main process of obtaining the spodumene lithium is extracted via sulfuric acid. This process generates as a byproduct a lot of silico-aluminous waste that has no final destination, being mostly stored in landfills or left outdoors. They were studied in this work, different synthetic procedures seeking different zeolite structures as a way to add value to this industrial waste. This was followed based on the traditional recipe of each structure provided by the "International Zeolite Association" (IZA) modifying it with the addition of silica-alumina residue. The synthesized materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It was possible to synthesize zeolites MER, EDI and MOR with high crystallinity and single phase, the first being that these structures are obtained by silico-aluminous waste from the extraction of the mineral spodumene lithium. Other materials, such as LTA zeolite, were obtained, but with low crystallinity or with more than one phase present. Further optimization studies are needed.

O objetivo do presente trabalho foi desenvolver um comp?sito polim?rico com rejeito de polietileno como matriz e carga do p? da casca da semente da planta Sombreiro (Clitoria fairchildiana) nas propor??es de 2,5% e 5%, mostrando que pol?meros p?s consumo podem ser novamente aproveitados. As misturas pol?mero/carga foram produzidas atrav?s de uma extrusora, e em seguida os corpos de prova foram moldados por inje??o. Para caracterizar o comp?sito foram realizadas an?lises t?rmicas, medida do ?ndice de fluidez, determina??o da densidade, ensaio de dureza Shore D, resist?ncia ? tra??o, resist?ncia ao impacto Izod, microscopia eletr?nica de varredura (MEV) e absor??o de ?gua. Para os resultados reol?gicos, a viscosidade do comp?sito PE_rec A (Polietileno com adi??o de 2,5% de carga) diminuiu, j? o PE_rec B (Polietileno com adi??o de 5% de carga) aumentou. A massa especifica se manteve constante para todas as amostras e concentra??es. Como esperado a dureza do comp?sito foi proporcional ao percentual de carga que foi acrescentado, j? na resist?ncia m?xima a tra??o o comp?sito PE_rec A obteve um valor 2,3% menor comparado ao PE_rec Puro, o ensaio de impacto Izod mostrou que o comp?sito PE_rec A apresentou 444,30 J/m de energia absorvida durante o ensaio. Na an?lise por MEV foram observados a presen?a de vazios na microestrutura do material e a falta de ades?o matriz/carga em algumas regi?es do comp?sito polim?rico. O ensaio de absor??o de ?gua mostrou que para as duas concentra??es de carga natural o p? se mostrou n?o muito hidrof?lico. Com isso os resultados obtidos mostraram que o Polietileno reciclado pode ser processado novamente e o acr?scimo de carga ao comp?sito promoveu um ganho de economia de material sint?tico. / Currently it has increased the need for recovery of waste generated by the population as a way to create alternative and low-cost materials, thus contributing to preserving the environment and use of natural resources. The manufacture of composites reinforced with natural fibers and polymer matrix, has been an alternative for industries seeking the recovery of waste. The aim of this study was to develop a polymeric composite tailings as polyethylene matrix and load powder seed bark Sombreiro plant (Clitoria fairchildiana) in the proportions of 2.5% and 5%, showing that post-consumer polymers can be again used. Mixtures polymer / load were produced through an extruder, and then the samples were injection molded. To characterize the composite were performed thermal analysis, measurement of flow rate, density determination, hardness testing Shore D, tensile strength, Izod impact strength, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and water absorption. For the rheological results, the viscosity of the composite PE_rec (polyethylene with addition of 2.5% load) has decreased since the PE_rec B (Polyethylene with addition of 5% load) has increased. The bulk density was kept constant for all samples and concentrations. As expected the hardness of the composite was proportional to the load percentage that has been added since the maximum tensile strength the PE_rec The composite obtained a 2.3% lower compared to PE_rec Pure, the Izod impact test showed that the composite PE_rec The presented 444.30 J/m energy absorbed during the test. In the analysis by SEM were observed the presence of voids in the microstructure of the material and the lack of adhesion matrix / load in some regions of the polymer composite. The water absorption test showed that for both natural load concentrations powder proved not very hydrophilic. Thus the results showed that the recycled polyethylene can be processed again and the composite load increase promoted a gain of synthetic material economy.

Seu elevado consumo acompanha grandes quantidades de res?duos, como cascas e sementes, provenientes do seu processamento. O objetivo desta tese foi agregar valor a cascas e sementes de mel?o (Cucumis melo var. reticulatus) evidenciando suas propriedades nutricionais, capacidade antioxidante, efeito anti-tumoral, propriedades prebi?ticas e seu potencial para produ??o de enzimas. Inicialmente foram elaboradas farinhas da casca e semente de mel?o utilizando planejamento experimental 22 avaliando os efeitos da temperatura e do tempo de secagem, e posterior caracteriza??o qu?mica por an?lises de composi??o centesimal e de fra??es fibrosas. As farinhas foram avaliadas quanto as suas propriedades prebi?ticas in vitro utilizando Bifidobacterium lactis Bl 04 em fermenta??o submersa. Quanto ao potencial das farinhas na produ??o de enzimas celulol?ticas utilizando os res?duos como substrato em fermenta??o semi-s?lida do fungo Aspergillus oryzae ATCC 9362. Para realiza??o das an?lises de poder antioxidante e antiproliferativo, foram preparados extratos aquosos, hidrometan?lico e hidroetan?lico das farinhas, caracterizados quanto ? composi??o de monossacar?deos, an?lise de a??cares totais, prote?nas, fen?licos totais, flavon?ides totais, caroten?ides totais e taninos; al?m de uma avalia??o fitoqu?mica. A avalia??o da capacidade antioxidante foi verificada por meio dos seguintes testes in vitro: capacidade antioxidante total (CAT), poder redutor, quela??o de metais ferro e cobre, seq?estro dos radicais DPPH, hidroxila e super?xido, e avalia??o da capacidade de absor??o dos radicais oxigenados (teste ORAC). A atividade antiproliferativa foi avaliada utilizando as linhagens de c?lulas tumorais de carcinoma (SiHa) e adenocarcinoma de c?lo de ?tero (HeLa), adenocarcinoma renal humano (786-0) e adenocarcinoma coloretal humano (HT- 29) por meio do ensaio do MTT. Um planejamento experimental para secagem dos res?duos para elabora??o das farinhas demonstrou que o fator temperatura influenciou significativamente na resposta rendimento das farinhas de casca e semente de mel?o, sendo o ensaio de 80 ?C por 24 h o que apresentou melhor rendimento. Dados apontaram que as farinhas da casca e semente de mel?o possuem caracter?sticas nutricionais importantes ? alimenta??o humana, com destaque para o conte?do de fibra alimentar (51,75% para semente; 40,57% para casca), prote?nas (22% para semente; 18% para casca) e lip?dios (24% para semente). Os res?duos podem ser caracterizados como material celul?sico, com valores de 35% de celulose para semente de mel?o e 19% para casca. Foram detectados satisfat?rios percentuais de pectina, sendo 28,96% para semente e 32,65% para casca de mel?o. Quanto ao potencial prebi?tico das farinhas, observou-se que a farinha da semente de mel?o promoveu o crescimento bifidobacteriano alcan?ando 9,9 Log UFCmL-1, ap?s 8 horas de cultivo, indicando propriedades prebi?ticas, com toler?ncia ? a??o de sais biliares por at? 8 horas de fermenta??o. A farinha da casca de mel?o n?o proporcionou crescimento de bifidobact?ria. As farinhas de casca e semente de mel?o demonstraram ser um bom substrato para produ??o de enzimas. A melhor atividade de CMCase (1,045 U / g) foi verificada em seis dias de fermenta??o e FPase (0,190 U / g) ap?s 96 h de cultivo com meio contendo as farinhas de casca e semente. Na avalia??o dos extratos obtidos a partir da casca e semente de mel?o, detectaram-se baixos teores de glicose, frutose e sacarose, com m?dia de 0,8% de a??cares totais para extratos da casca e 0,7% para extratos da semente. Os extratos hidrometan?licos da casca e da semente obtiveram maiores percentuais de prote?nas, 11,9 % e 18 %, respectivamente. A an?lise fitoqu?mica indicou a presen?a de compostos fen?licos, terpenos e saponinas. Compostos fen?licos totais em extratos aquosos, hidrometan?licos, e hidroetan?licos da farinha do res?duo de mel?o foram quantificados e expressos em equivalentes de ?cido g?lico, destacando os extratos da casca (1,016 mg 100g-1). Caroten?ides totais, flavon?ides totais e taninos tamb?m foram detectados nos extratos dos res?duos de mel?o, com destaque para 96 ?g de caroten?ides totais por grama de casca de mel?o, 491 ?g de equivalentes de catequinas e 309 ?g de equivalentes de catequinas em 100 g de extrato seco da casca de mel?o. Os testes para avalia??o da atividade antioxidante revelaram que todos os extratos de casca e semente de mel?o apresentam capacidade antioxidante. No CAT expresso como equivalente em ?cido asc?rbico, os extratos hidroetan?lico e metan?lico para casca e semente apresentaram valores de 89, 74 e 83 mg /g, respectivamente. Foi verificada capacidade de seq?estro de radical hidroxila para extratos hidroetan?lico (50,56%) e metan?lico (67,7%) para casca de mel?o. Ensaios de poder redutor e habilidade de quela??o dos metais cobre e ferro apresentaram, tanto para casca quanto para semente de mel?o, um excelente potencial antioxidante. O extrato aquoso da casca demonstrou habilidade de quela??o in vitro de ?ons cobre (84%) e quela??o de ?ons ferro (61%). Atividade de seq?estro do radical DPPH foi significativa somente para os extratos da casca de mel?o (29,5%). Valores de ORAC foram importantes principalmente para os extratos etan?lico e metan?lico dos res?duos, com destaque para o extrato hidroetan?lico da semente (22 mmol de Trolox em 100 g de extrato seco). O teste de viabilidade celular, possibilitou observar que os extratos foram capazes de diminuir significativamente a viabilidade das c?lulas cancer?genas HeLa, SiHa e 786- 0. O extratos aquoso da semente na concentra??o 1,0 mg/mL inibiu a prolifera??o de c?lulas SiHa em 80% e o extrato hidroetan?lico da casca (0,25 mg/ mL ) inibiu em 80% a viabilidade de c?lulas HeLa. Para as c?lulas 786-0 todos os extratos na concentra??o de 1,0 mg/mL inibiram a prolifera??o celular em mais de 50%. Os extratos avaliados n?o apresentaram atividade significativa de inibi??o da viabilidade de c?lulas HT29. Todos os extratos da casca e semente de mel?o inibiram fracamente a prolifera??o de fibroblastos normais 3t3 (25% de inibi??o). Conclui-se que cascas e sementes de mel?o possuem potencial antioxidante in vitro e efeitos antiproliferativos em c?lulas tumorais. Farinhas de casca e semente de mel?o podem ser substratos para produ??o de enzimas celulol?ticas, al?m de que a farinha da semente apresentou indica??o prebi?tica in vitro. / The use of food processing residues is a strategy to contribute to reducing waste and adding value to new products. Melon is a fruit consumed worldwide and its high consumption accompanies large amounts of residues, such as peel and seeds. The objective of this thesis was to add value to melon peel and seeds (Cucumis melo var. reticulatus), evidencing its nutritional properties, antioxidant capacity, anti-tumor effect, prebiotic potential and its capacity for enzyme production. Flours of melon peel and seed were elaborated using experimental design 22 to evaluate the factors of drying time and temperature, and the responses moisture, water activity and flour yield. Flour characterization was carried out using centesimal composition (moisture, ash, proteins, lipids, dietary fiber), fibrous fractions of cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin and pectin. Flours were evaluated for their in vitro prebiotic properties using Bifidobacterium lactis in submerged fermentation and bile salt tolerance. The potential of the flours in the production of cellulases in semi-solid fermentation using Aspergillus oryzae fungus was also evaluated. For the accomplishment of the analyzes of antioxidant and antiproliferative power, aqueous extracts, hydrometanolic and hydroethanolic of the flours were prepared, characterized as monosaccharide composition, analysis of total sugars and proteins. For antioxidant evaluation, the total phenolic compounds, total flavonoids, total carotenoids and tannins were determined. Phytochemical evaluation of the extracts was carried out by Thin Layer Chromatography. The antioxidant capacity evaluation was verified by the following in vitro tests: total antioxidant capacity, reducing power, iron and copper metal chelation, sequestration of DPPH, hydroxyl and superoxide radicals, and evaluation of the oxygenated radicals absorption capacity. The antiproliferative activity was evaluated using the tumor cell lines (SiHa, HeLa, 786-0 and HT29) by colorimetric test of cell viability evaluation. The results for the drying experimental design showed that the temperature factor significantly influenced the yield response of the flours, being the test of 80 ?C for 24 h which presented better yield. Data showed that the melon residues had important nutritional characteristics for human consumption, with emphasis on dietary fiber content (51.75% for seed, 40.57% for peel), proteins (22% for seed; 18% for peel) and lipids (24% for seed). The residues can be characterized as cellulosic material, with values of 35% cellulose for melon seed and 19% for peel. Satisfactory percentages of pectin were detected, being 28.96% for seed and 32.65% for melon peel. As for the prebiotic potential of the flour, it was observed that the fructo-oligosaccharide standard showed a growth of bifidobacteria of 12 LogUFCmL-1, after 12 hours of fermentation, and the melon seed flour promoted bifidobacterial growth reaching 9.9 LogUFCmL- 1, after 8 hours of culture, indicating prebiotic properties, with tolerance to the action of bile salts for up to 8 hours of fermentation. The melon peel did not provide growth of bifidobacteria. Melon peel and seed proved to be a good substrate for enzyme production. The best CMCase activity (1.045 U / g) was verified on six days of fermentation and FPase (0.190 U / g) after 96 h of fermentation with medium containing the peel and seed flours. In the evaluation of the extracts obtained from the melon residues, phytochemical analysis indicated the presence of compounds characteristic of phenolics, terpenes and saponins. Total phenolic compounds in aqueous, hydrometanolic, and hydroethanolic extracts of melon residue were quantified and expressed as gallic equivalents, highlighting peel extracts (1.016 mg 100g- 1). Total carotenoids, total flavonoids and tannins were also detected in extracts of melon residues, with emphasis on 96 ?g of total carotenoids per gram of melon peel, 491 ?g of catechin equivalents and 309 ?g of catechin equivalents in 100 g extract dried of melon peel. The tests to evaluate the antioxidant activity revealed that all extracts presented antioxidant capacity. In the test of total antioxidant capacity (expressed as equivalent in ascorbic acid), hydroethanolic and methanolic extracts for peel and seed presented values of 89.74 and 83 mg / g, respectively; 50.56% and methanolic 67.7% for melon peel. Reducing power and chelating abilities of copper and iron metals presented relevant data for both melon peel and seed, demonstrating an excellent antioxidant potential. The aqueous extract of the peel showed the ability of in vitro of copper ions chelation (84%) and iron ions chelation (61%). Scavenging activity of the DPPH radical was significant only for extracts of melon peel (29.5%).The cell viability test allowed us to observe that the extracts were able to extract the organic extracts, to significantly decrease the viability of the HeLa, SiHa and 786-0 cancer cells. Aqueous seed extracts at the 1.0 mg / mL concentration inhibited the proliferation of SiHa cells by 80% and the peel hydroethanolic extract (0.25 mg / mL) inhibited by 80% the viability of HeLa cells. For human renal tumor cells (786-0) all extracts at the concentration of 1.0 mg / ml inhibited cell proliferation by more than 50%. The extracts evaluated did not present significant inhibition activity of HT29 cells. All melon peel and seed extracts weakly inhibited the proliferation of normal 3t3 fibroblasts (25% inhibition). It is concluded that melon peels and seeds have antioxidant potential in vitro and antiproliferative effects in tumor cells. Flours of melon peel and seed may be substrates for the production of cellulolytic enzymes, in addition the seed flour showed in vitro prebiotic indication.

Estas foram desenvolvidas com adi??o de filler do res?duo do polimento do porcelanato (RPP) e dispers?o aquosa de poliuretana, objetivando analisar o seu efeito na redu??o de permeabilidade em pastas de cimento para tamponamento de po?os de petr?leo. Para identificar o melhor comportamento, realizou-se ensaios de permeabilidade, resist?ncia ? compress?o axial, estabilidade, densidade e carbonata??o de acordo com as especifica??es da Associa??o Brasileira de Normas T?cnicas (ABNT) e do American Petroleum Institute (API). Os resultados obtidos nos ensaios foram satisfat?rios e verificou-se que as adi??es do Res?duo do Polimento do Porcelanato e da Poliuretana contribu?ram para redu??o da permeabilidade em pastas de cimento, possuem uma boa resist?ncia a compress?o e conseguem resistir a condi??es carbon?tica com 60 dias de exposi??o em ambiente supercr?tico. / The change in the energy matrix is still far from the current reality, then, the geological storage appears as an alternative against the Global Warming, adopting the technique of capturing CO2 and CH4 before their emission into the atmosphere. They stand out as gas storage environments: the mature and abandoned oil fields. However, there is the necessity to develop sustainable cement pastes for the wells cementation with low permeability, in order to minimize the emission of these gases into the atmosphere. These pastes were developed with the addition of filler from the porcelain polishing waste and Water-borne polyurethane in order to analyze theirs effect on the reduction of the permeability in cement pastes for oil wells. To identify the best behavior, permeability, axial compressive strength, stability, density and carbonation, experiments were performed according to the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT) and the American Petroleum Institute (API) specifications. The results obtained in the tests were satisfactory and it was verified that the additions of the porcelain polish residue and the Polyurethane contributed to the reduction of the permeability in cement pastes, they have a good resistance to compression and they are able to withstand the carbonate conditions with 60 days of exposure in a supercritical environment.

Dias Branco S.A., o presente trabalho teve como objetivo buscar alternativas para o aproveitamento de res?duos da produ??o de margarina e farelo de trigo como potenciais substratos para produ??o de produtos biotecnol?gicos. Inicialmente os res?duos foram caracterizados e se prospectou, nos respectivos res?duos, cepas potenciais produtoras de enzimas. Nos cultivos foram utilizados cons?rcios f?ngicos prospectados do res?duo farelo de trigo de unidade fabril, bem como cepas de fungos Aspergillus oryzae CCT n? 0975 ATCC9362, Trichoderma reesei CCT n? 2768 - QM 9414 e a bact?ria Bacillus cereus CCT n? 5457, adquiridos da cole??o de culturas da Funda??o Andr? Tosello-SP. Na avalia??o do potencial dos res?duos como substrato, em res?duos de margarina n?o foi observado crescimento microbiano nas condi??es testadas, apesar desse apresentar consider?veis percentuais de ?cidos graxos, assim, n?o prosseguiu-se os estudos com os res?duos de borra da refinaria e efluente da produ??o de margarinas. Como o farelo de trigo apresentou cerca de 40% de hemicelulose, realizou-se ensaios de fermenta??o em estado s?lido, com o material n?o lavado e n?o autoclavado, indentificando-se produ??o de xilanases nas primeiras 72 h de cultivo. A partir deste resultado foi realizado um Delineamento Composto Central Rotacional (DCCR) - planejamento fatorial 23, com tr?s repeti??es no ponto central e seis pontos axiais, obtendo a otimiza??o dos fatores do processo: umidade, pH e granulometria. Os fatores foram considerados significativos pela ANOVA com o n?vel de confian?a de 95%. O resultado otimizado de atividade enzim?tica de 11,78 ?0,01 UI/g ou 3,54 UI/mL utilizando pH 3,3, granulometria de 900,0 ?m e umidade de 40% foi verificado. O caldo enzim?tico obtido foi avaliado atrav?s da eletroforese, onde foi poss?vel observar duas bandas predominates de massa molar 14,4 e 30 kDa. Desnatura??o a partir de 60?C, extra??o est?vel com tamp?o acetato de s?dio e com ponto isoel?trico em pH na faixa de 5,5-6,5. O caldo foi considerado eficiente na modifica??o de tipifica??o de farinhas de trigo pelo estudo dos par?metros reol?gicos de massa fabricada com farinha aditivada com o caldo enzim?tico produzido, adotando-se an?lise do falling number e alveografia. O caldo se mostrou est?vel por 30 dias e manteve 50% de sua atividade xilanol?tica por 6 meses. O farelo de trigo se mostrou potencial substrato para induzir a produ??o de enzimas por FES utilizando-se o microrganismo Aspergillus orizae. O extrato enzim?tico obtido apresentou viabilidade para aplica??o na panifica??o com possibilidade de ser inserido na estrat?gia de inclus?o de novos produtos de inova??o em empresas de moagem. / In order to point alternatives for wheat bran disposal destination generated in food industries sector M. Dias Branco S.A., thus contributing with the reduction of the resultant impact of the deposition of residues in the environment. It has been evaluated in the present work the potential of the wheat bran as substrate for xylanase production by solid state fermentation using fungal consortiums as well as the Aspergillus oryzae (ATCC9362), Trichoderma reesei (2768), Bacillus cereus CCT n? 5457, from Funda??o Andr? Tosello-SP. The use of non-washed and non-autoclaved wheat bran as carbon and energy source on the solid state fermentation by the Aspergillus oryzae fungus showed greater percentage of the produced protein after 72 hours of cultivation. The use of a Central Composite Rotatable Design (CCRD) - 23 factorial planning with three repetitions at the central point as well as six axial points ? coupled to Surface Response Methodology (SRM) allowed to assay the influence of humidity, pH and grain size (independent variables or factors) on the xylanase activity (dependent variable or response) as well as to optimize the best condition for the enzyme production. Results showed that all factors and their combination were significant at 95% confidence level. The optimized xylanase activity was (11.78 ?0,01) UI/g or (3.54) UI/mL obtained at 40% of humidity, pH 3.3 with grain size of 900.0?m. The produced broth was stable for 6 months and remained about (50%) of the initial xylanase activity at 4?C. SDS-PAGE assay showed that xylanase has 14,4-30 kDa molar mass. The obtained enzymatic broth was efficient to modify wheat flours as shown by the falling number rheologic parameters and alveography assay.

Sendo assim, este trabalho apresenta a obten??o e estudo da caracteriza??o de um material comp?sito, voltado para a fabrica??o de um absorvedor de impacto de para-choque automotivo. Esse material foi fabricado com resina matriz de poliuretano (PU) ? base de petr?leo e carga de res?duos de pneu, oriundos do processo de recauchutagem. Para tanto, cinco formula??es com diferentes percentuais de res?duo de pneu (0%, 30%, 45%, 70% e 100%) foram obtidas e caracterizadas no que se refere ?s suas propriedades mec?nicas, t?rmicas, de absor??o de umidade, densidade e degrada??o pela sua exposi??o ?s intemp?ries. Al?m disso, foram realizados os ensaio de Microscopia Eletr?nica de Varredura (MEV) e Espectroscopia de Energia Dispersiva (EDS) no material para que se pudesse observar sua microestrutura (distribui??o de res?duos na matriz, vazios, imperfei??es e impurezas) e identificar os elementos qu?micos presentes, respectivamente. Como resultado geral, os comp?sitos apresentaram um aumento na sua densidade conforme se aumentava o percentual de res?duo de pneu, assim como a condutividade t?rmica. Quanto ?s propriedades mec?nicas, a formula??o que teve maior resist?ncia ? tra??o, flex?o e compress?o foi a de 45% e a de maior resist?ncia ao impacto foi a de 100%. Com rela??o ? resist?ncia ao envelhecimento a formula??o de 100% foi a que obteve melhor desempenho. Foi fabricado um absorvedor de para-choque com a formula??o de 45% que apresentou um acr?scimo de massa de 28,03%, demonstrando-se a viabilidade de fabrica??o desse componente automotivo. / The disposal of tires in the environment in the form of waste is causing major problems and environmental impacts. Thus, this work presents the study and the characterization of a composite material, aimed at the manufacture of an automotive bumper absorber. This material was manufactured with petroleum based polyurethane (PU) matrix resin and tire residue loading, from the retread process. Five formulations with different percentages of tire residue (0%, 30%, 45%, 70% and 100%) were obtained and characterized with respect to their mechanical and thermal properties, moisture absorption, density and degradation by exposure to the elements. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Dispersive Energy Spectroscopy (EDS) tests were also performed on the material so that its microstructure could be observed (distribution of residues in the matrix, voids, imperfections and impurities) and to identify the chemical elements present , respectively. As a general result, the composites presented an increase in their density as the percentage of tire residue increased, as well as the thermal conductivity. As for the mechanical properties, the formulation with the highest tensile, flexural and compression strength was 45% and the one with the highest impact strength was 100%. Regarding the resistance to aging the formulation of 100% was the one that obtained better performance. A bumper absorber was manufactured with the 45% formulation, which presented a mass increase of 28.03%, demonstrating the feasibility of manufacturing this automotive component.

Desse modo, a utiliza??o dos res?duos s?lidos de constru??o e demoli??o (RCD) como agregado reciclado torna-se uma alternativa vi?vel para mitigar o impacto da constru??o civil ao meio ambiente. O agregado reciclado de concreto (ARC), principalmente, a fra??o grossa (ARCG, com di?metro maior que 4,8 mm), apresenta qualidade superior aos agregados reciclados misto, podendo ser utilizado na produ??o de novos concretos. Por outro lado, a fra??o fina (ARCF, com d < 4,8 mm), cont?m maior teor de argamassa aderida ao gr?o de ARC, apresentando qualidade inferior ao ARCG o que dificulta sua utiliza??o em novos concretos ou argamassas. Neste contexto, o objetivo dessa pesquisa ? avaliar o comportamento de argamassas para revestimento com a substitui??o do agregado natural (AN) pelo res?duo de concreto (ARCF). Sem indica??o de fissuras aos 56 dias de cura, nas argamassas com ARCF, a resist?ncia de ader?ncia obteve valores m?nimos aceit?veis (0,3 MPa) para revestimento, por?m n?o apresentaram signific?ncia estat?stica. / The construction activity promotes a large environmental liability due to the high consumption of energy and non-renewable natural resources, besides generating large volumes of solid waste that are often inadequately destined. Thus, the use of solid construction and demolition wastes as a recycled aggregate becomes a viable alternative to mitigate the impact of construction on the environment. The recycled concrete aggregate (RCD), mainly the coarse fraction (CRCA, with diameter greater than 4.8 mm), presents superior quality to the mixed recycled aggregates, being able to be used in the production of new concretes. On the other hand, the fine fraction (FRCA, with d < 4.8 mm), contains a higher content of mortar adhered to the RCA grain, presenting inferior quality to the CRCA and restricting its use in new concretes or mortars. In this context, the objective of this research is to evaluate the behavior of mortars for coating with the substitution of the natural aggregate (NA) for the concrete residue (FRCA). The lime / cement ratio (from 0.3 to 1.7) and the substitution of NA by FRCA (from 15 to 85%) in the production of 14 mortars were evaluated experimentally, 9 of them with FRCA and 5 of reference, standardizing The grain size profile of the NA and FRCA, the binder / aggregate ratio in 1: 3 and the consistency index in 260 mm. The physical, chemical, mineralogical and microstructural characteristics of the aggregates were evaluated by analyzing the bulk density, the specific apparent weight, laser grain size, BET, FRX, DRX and MEV, as well as Los Angeles abrasion, mortar content, water absorption and reactivity index for FRCA. Then, the properties of the mortars in the anhydrous, plastic and hardened states were evaluated through the granulometry tests by sieving, bulk density, consistency, weight variation, water absorption by capillarity and immersion, flexural tensile and compressive strenght, dynamic modulus of elasticity, adhesion strength and susceptibility cracking. It was found that the average values of mortar content, Los Angeles abrasion loss, water absorption and density in FRCA, are similar to those reported in the literature. In the mortars a reduction of bulk density occurred with the increase of the FRCA that also contributed to the increase of flexural tensile, compression strengths and modulus of elasticity. No cracks were observed at 56 days of cure, in FRCA mortars, the adhesion strength obtained minimum acceptable values (0.3 MPa) for coating, but did not present statistical significance.

Experiences of prominent jazz vocalists : exploring the collaboration between vocalist and pianist during performances

This study explored the experiences of prominent jazz vocalists regarding the collaboration between the vocalist and pianist during duo performances. The work relationship between a jazz vocalist and accompanist is a unique phenomenon due to the improvisatory and collaborative nature of jazz. Effective co-performer interaction and communication are two essential components within an improvisational music setting. A spirit of spontaneity ir required in order for improvisation and interpretation to take place in real-time and on stage; aspects which cannot be duplicated or replicated during rehearsals. A qualitative research approach was employed by means of a collective case study, exploring the views and experiences of three prominent South African and three international jazz vocalists. Data was gathered through semi-structured interviews. Furthermore, artefacts including audio and audio-visual recordings of each of these performers were studied to ascertain aspects of the vocal-piano collaboration. Thematic data analysis presented four main themes: (1) individuality; (2) interactive relationships; (3) musicianship; and (4) the present moment. The findings revealed that the roles of both partners within the vocal-piano duo collaboration are evenly distributed, yet have distinctive functions. Each new performance between the same vocal-piano duo is an innovative execution, a skilful and artistic equilibrium. Hearing History: Musical Borrowing in the Percussion Ensemble Works, Duo Chopinesque and Chameleon Music

Duo Chopinesque by Michael Hennagin and Chameleon Music by Dan Welcher represent two of the most significant percussion ensemble compositions written in the last twenty years. Both works are written for the mostly mallet type of percussion ensemble wherein the keyboard instruments predominate. However, the most unique aspect of these two pieces is their use of musical quotation. Duo Chopinesque borrows Chopin's Prelude in E minor in its entirety, while Chameleon Music borrows portions from four Mozart Sonatas. This paper places each work within the history of the percussion ensemble, and in the larger history of musical quotation in the twentieth century. In addition, the compositional characteristics of both works are examined with particular emphasis on each composer's use of borrowed material from the music of Mozart and Chopin. Particular attention is paid to the relationship between quoted material and newly composed rhythmic motives.

A Performance Guide to Tomas Svoboda's Duo Concerto for Trumpet and Organ, Op. 152

The Duo Concerto Trumpet and Organ, Op.152 by Tomas Svoboda was written in memory of and commissioned by the friends of the late Richard Thornburg, second trumpet of the Oregon Symphony. Through the use of primary sources, Tomas Svoboda, composer and organist at the premiere, and Fred Sautter, principal trumpet of the Oregon Symphony and trumpeter at the premiere, the performance guide illuminates the piece with a discussion of five different topics. Chapter 2 of the guide reveals the circumstances of the commission and the initial compositional process. Chapter 3 discusses the performance history of the concerto, including the premiere. Chapter 4 provides analytical insights with programmatic titles accompanying the formal layout of the piece. Chapter 5 presents the piece from the standpoint of performance preparation. Chapter 6 concludes the guide with final thoughts of the composer, Tomas Svoboda. The guide provides the performer studying this piece the historical context of the concerto and highlights programmatic elements of the piece not apparent in its published form.
