Is your brand loyalty affected by the country? : An explanatory investigation of the relationship between brand loyalty and country-of-origin in a Swedish context

Background: Brand loyalty is a rather old concept and has become a central part of everybrand and there are many factors that need to be considered when choosing strategies in orderto achieve this. However, even though the concept itself is rather set-in stone the research onhow brands archive this in different contexts is constantly in motion, for instance it has beenshown that a brand's Country-of-Origin has effects on consumers purchase intent and attitudeswhich are crucial factors within Brand loyalty.  Purpose: The Purpose of this paper is to explain what effect COO has on brand loyalty of Swedish consumers. Methodology: For this research a quantitative method was used. The research wasexplanatory, and a cross-sectional research design was chosen. After this a questionnaire wasconstructed and shared through two platforms in order to collect the data that was needed forthe research. Findings: Both our hypotheses from the proposed model were rejected, therefore theresearcher could conclude that Country-of-Origin has no effect on brand loyalty of Swedish consumers. Conclusion: Even though both hypotheses were rejected, did the research contribute withknowledge that COO has no significant effect on brand loyalty since such research has notbeen done before. However, the research also contributes with knowledge towards previousresearch, where it has been shown that perceived quality from a country has an effect onconsumers' purchase intent and attitudes. Whereby, our test showed that it also has an effecton brand loyalty when tested alone without the country image.

Engaging Generation Z : A qualitative study on improving loyalty rewards to increase engagement among Generation Z consumers in fast-fashion retail in Sweden

Loyalty programs are something that have made an appearance in the retail industry, where the retail industries have rewards that can give loyalty for consumers to engage and create long term relationships. With the loyalty programs there is an uncertainty on how Gen Z consumers will engage and keep using these rewards. With this thesis the authors want to investigate how the Gen Z consumers can be more engaged in the loyalty rewards in the fast fashion retailers in Sweden. Where the authors will examine various aspects that will improve the engagement mechanics and rewards for the Gen Z consumers. There will also be a look at how social media influenced the Gen Z consumers on their decision making. Gen Z is targeted in this thesis because they are one of the segmentation groups that are most active in the loyalty programs and fast fashion. The empirical data was collected through individual semi structured consumer interviews, where the data was collected on how Gen Z understands and uses loyalty programs. With the data collected it will be analysed through a thematic approach where themes have been identified to understand perspectives and experiences. The collected empirical data will be analysed using theory where differences and similarities are discussed throughout the thesis.  The conclusion of this thesis has shown that in order to improve loyalty rewards and engage Gen Z consumers, fast-fashion retailers should focus more on four different factors. According to the findings, Gen Z consumers value convenience, personalization, saving money and quality when it comes to loyalty rewards. Although, while the thesis does give insights to Gen Z behaviour and factors influencing it, it does not give a complete solution to how fast-fashion retailers in Sweden should respond to this behaviour. However, this thesis does provide valuable insights for retailers in the fast-fashion sector in Sweden and how they can increase loyalty reward engagement among Gen Z consumers.

Unlocking loyalty : A qualitative study on how loyalty programs should be designed to increase Gen Z:s loyalty in fast fashion retail.

Over the last decade, loyalty programs have been emerging more and more and the demand for better offers in exchange for loyalty has been increasing given the rising prices throughout the society. With this, an evolution is required in how brands should design their loyalty programs to retain their customers as well as to attract new customers in fast fashion retailing. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis is to investigate how loyalty programs can be strategically designed to strengthen brand loyalty with Gen Z by examining various aspects such as program structure, rewards and engagement mechanisms. This is because Gen Z is one of the demographic groups most active in the use of loyalty programs and fast fashion. Empirical data was obtained through individual semi-structured consumer interviews, to collect data on how Gen Z perceives and uses loyalty programs. The collected data was analyzed through a thematic approach where different themes were identified to explore experiences and perspectives. Furthermore, the collected empirical data is analyzed using theory where similarities and differences are discussed. The conclusion of this thesis showed that in order to develop brand loyalty among Gen Z using loyalty programs, developers should put a strong focus on the financial benefits included in the programs. However, many of the interviewees preferred personalized offers and rewards shaped by their personal data. The thesis did not provide specific answers on how loyalty programs should be designed, however that they should be tailored to the customer using them and that brands should make use of the customer data they collect.

Lojalitet - myt eller verklighet? : En kvantitativ studie om lojalitet på apoteksmarknaden

Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka hur lojala konsumenterna på apoteksmarknaden i Katrineholm är. Eventuella samband mellan kön och lojalitetstyp samt åldersgrupp och lojalitetstyp undersöktes även. För att uppnå syftet genomfördes en kvantitativ undersökning med hjälp av enkäter, där 240 svar samlades in. Konsumenterna delades in i de fyra lojalitetstyper som tas upp i Dick och Basus lojalitetsmodell. Analysen visar att kön inte spelar in i vilken lojalitetstyp individen tillhör. Åldersgruppstillhörighet har dock en signifikant påverkan.

Employee Perceptions of Loyalty as a Factor of Performance. Grounded Theory Approach

The relationship between employee loyalty and organizational performance has long been recognized but not included in performance appraisal models. This study identifies the perspectives of Master of Business Administration (MBA) candidates at a small private university in the eastern U.S. Fifteen interviews were conducted after distributing flyers among MBA classes and interested students volunteered to participate. The study was qualitative, based on personal interviews, to explore how loyalty is perceived in relation to performance. The theoretical framework used was Hogan's (1983) socioanalytic theory to explain differences in people's performance at work. Through use of a grounded theory approach, employees' perceptions on loyalty as a component of employee performance evaluation inducted to a theoretical model. This research shows, for the first time, loyalty as an expectation of performance from the perspective of individuals preparing to be future managers. The model explains the interrelationship between the suggested dimensions inducted from participants' perceptions for the purpose to assess both company and employee loyalty. The theoretical model demonstrates that a balance is needed to build a loyalty base between the company and employee loyalty that will lead to better performance. Specifically, respondents identified components of loyalty in the dimensions of integrity, flexibility, transparency support, dedication, conscientiousness, accountability, and advocacy. The model supports intuitive recognition that management behavior that creates employee loyalty also improves employee performance. The theoretical model can be used by researchers and human resource professionals to shape their quantitative research and organizational policies.

Background: During the last decades the efforts to foster customer relationships have become important due to increased competition in the consumer markets. One of the most popular strategies have been to introduce customer loyalty programs which are believed to enhance the customer loyalty. The popularity of the customer loyalty programs is based on the beliefs that loyal customers are lucrative and these programs would bond the customers to the company. More recently however, the discussion whether these statements are accurate has started to blossom. Loyal customers are not necessarily as profitable as believed and it is not easy for companies to gain competitive advantage because almost all companies have similar customer clubs. Purpose: This thesis evaluates through a case study of a Swedish retail company whether customer loyalty programs manage to create loyalty among their members. Appropriate features of loyalty will be examined with the intention to evaluate whether there exists other factors outside the loyalty programs that are also influencing the creation of loyalty. Method: A qualitative study was conducted to answer the purpose of the thesis. Within the case study several semi-structured interviews were carried out with INTERSPORT and 20 telephone interviews with INTERSPORT customers. Empirical material was analyzed with a reflection to the theoretical framework and the research questions. Conclusions: Customer loyalty programs can enhance the creation of loyalty, but should be seen as a complement to other aspects of the business, namely, the product line, the customer service and the store concept. However, sustainable customer loyalty is difficult to obtain because many customers today are loyal to several companies instead of one.

Utmaningarna med att befinna sig i en ständigt föränderlig bransch som mode- och textilindustrin har visat sig vara stora. Konkurrensen företag emellan ökar och kunder har därmed blivit allt mindre lojala till enskilda varumärken. För att bibehålla företagets konkurrensfördelar har strategier utvecklats för upprätthålla kundens lojalitet gentemot varumärket, bland annat i form av lojalitetsprogram. Tidigare forskning visar emellertid på inkonsekventa bevis kring hur effektiva dessa program faktiskt är och huruvida de leder till ökad kundlojalitet. Problemet har sin grund i att det finns en utbredd kunskapsbrist bland företag gällande hur man utformar ett väl fungerande lojalitetsprogram. Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka hur detaljhandelsföretag som säljer textila produkter på den svenska marknaden kan utforma sina lojalitetsprogram för att främja kundlojalitet. Fokus ligger på medelstora till stora företag och hur de arbetar med öppna respektive stängda lojalitetsprogram samt hur de kan använda sig utav monetära och icke-monetära förmåner inom programmet. Vidare avser uppsatsen att få en inblick i de möjligheter och begränsningar dessa företag ser med avgiftsbaserade lojalitetsprogram. För att besvara frågeställningarna tillämpas en kombination av kvalitativ och kvantitativ forskning i form av en innehållsanalys och semistrukturerade intervjuer.   Resultatet visar att en öppen struktur kan vara lätt att implementera vid uppstarten av ett lojalitetsprogram. Men för att främja kundlojalitet och långsiktigt bygga relationer skulle ett stängt lojalitetsprogram kunna uppfattas som ett bättre alternativ. När det kommer till förmåner är icke-monetära förmåner bättre i avseendet att skapa en närmare relation till kunden och monetära förmåner positivt i den bemärkelsen att de resulterar i ett köp. En balans mellan dessa skulle därmed kunna resultera i en sann lojalitet gentemot varumärket. Företag ser flertalet möjligheter och begränsningar med att implementera en medlemsavgift. Till exempel tror de att avgifter skulle generera färre medlemmar. Men samtidigt finns det en tro bland företagen om att dessa medlemmar skulle bli mer lojala om de betalat för sitt medlemskap. / The challenges of operating within a constantly changing sector as the fashion and textile industry have proven to be extensive. Competitiveness between companies are increasing and customers have thus become less loyal to individual brands. In order to maintain the company’s competitive advantage strategies have been developed to keep customers loyal to the specific brand, often in the form of loyalty programs. However, previous research shows inconsistent evidence about the effectiveness of these programs and whether they actually lead to increased customer loyalty. The problem is based on the fact that there is a widespread lack of knowledge among companies regarding how to design a well-functioning loyalty program. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate how retailers selling textile products on the Swedish market can design their loyalty programs to increase customer loyalty. Focus will be on medium to large companies and how they can work with open and closed loyalty programs as well as how they can make use of monetary and non- monetary rewards within the program. Furthermore, the study wishes to gain insight into the opportunities and limitations these companies recognize with fee-based loyalty programs. In order to answer the research questions, a combination of qualitative and quantitative research has been conducted in terms of a content analysis and semi structured interviews.   The study implies that an open structure can be easy to implement when launching a loyalty program. But in order to increase customer loyalty and build long-term relationships, a closed loyalty program could be perceived as a better option. When it comes to rewards, nonmonetary rewards are better in the sense of creating a closer relationship with the customer whilst monetary rewards often results in a completed purchase. A balance between these types of rewards could thus lead to true loyalty towards a brand. The companies acknowledge both possibilities and limitations in terms of implementing a membership fee. For example, they believe that incorporating fees would generate fewer members within the loyalty program. But at the same time there is a belief amongst the companies that the customers would become more loyal if they pay for their membership.
