The Visual Arts Philosophy of Roman Catholicism as Manifested in the Works of Four Commissioned Artists Completed for the 1987 Sanctuary of St. Rita's Catholic Church

Siber, Elizabeth G. (Elizabeth Gaye) 08 1900 (has links)
This thesis investigates how the visual arts philosophy promulgated in the 1960s by the Second Vatican Council of Roman Catholic Churches is manifested by commissioned artists for a particular parish. The primary data were the new sanctuary and the artworks, which include stained glass by Lyle Novinski, a carved-glass Marian Shrine by Claire Wing, bronze Stations of the Cross by Heri Bartscht, and wooden medallions depicting two saints carved by Don Schol. This paper reviews pertinent ecclesiastical doctrines along with interpretational publications, physically and iconographically describes the sanctuary and artwork, and considers aspects of the relationship between patron churches and the artists they commission.

Česká a moravská účast na christianizaci Polska / Bohemian and Moravian Participation during the Christianisation of Poland

Halašková, Stanislava January 2015 (has links)
The thesis focused on the particular phases of christianization of Poland which occured with Czech or Moravian participation, i.e. influences of mission of Cyril and Methodius in Poland, marriage of Polish princ Mieszko with Czech prince-daughter Dobroslava and his subsequent baptism and foundation of archiepiscopate in Gniezno above the tomb of St. Adalbert. Taking into account the historical and territorial developement of the considered area the thesis is divided into three parts. The first chapter is dedicated to christianization of the southern Poland. The mission of Cyril and Methodius should be heading into this area in the end of 9th century. After carefull examining of written sources and results of current research one can say, that it is not possible to confirm any Great-Moravian influences on the christianization of southern Poland. Similar results were reached also in the case of Czech participation in the process accepting of Christian faith in the second half of the 10th century. In this time should be the contemporary Silesia and Lesser Poland part of Prague and Moravian diocese. In the next part is characterised the influence of Czech princess Dobroslava on the decision of Polish prince Mieszko I to accept baptism. With this event started the process of creating of church...

La christianisation des campagnes en Afrique romaine à la fin de l'Antiquité (312-439)

Hoohs, Muriel 03 June 2014 (has links)

The public role of the bishops in the reign of Constantine : the transformations occurred within Church and Empire in the beginning of the fourth century through the texts of Eusebius of Caesarea

This dissertation has as its main aim to analyze the public role of the bishops during the reign of Constantine, chiefly their efforts to build a relationship of proximity and dialogue with the imperial court. The documental corpus of this study is composed of the texts of the bishop Eusebius of Caesarea that deal specially with this emperor, which are the Ecclesiastical History, the Praise of Constantine and the Life of Constantine. I will try to show how the imperial policy of support to Christianity that occurs in the beginning of the fourth century owes great part of its success to the political involvement of the bishops with the emperor and his magistrates. I will also argue that the problem of the consolidation of the Church as an important political institution within the imperial scenario depends not only of a change of attitude of the emperor towards the Christian communities, but mainly of a transformation occurred within the churches themselves, through their bishops, that were more and more interested in the aid of Rome for the resolution of their own conflicts / Mestrado / Historia Cultural / Mestre em História

Právní aspekty nových náboženských hnutí v České republice / Legal aspects of New Religious Movements in the Czech Republic

Kadlecová, Marcela January 2021 (has links)
1 Název diplomové práce v anglickém jazyce, abstrakt v anglickém jazyce a tři klíčová slova v anglickém jazyce Legal aspects of New Religious Movements in the Czech Republic Abstract The main purpose of this master's thesis is a critical analysis of Czech legislation of New Religious Movements. This thesis should describe a legal relationship between New Religious Movements and Czech legal order. This thesis focuses on the topic while studying public and private law's aspects. It also focuses on sociological considerations. New Religious Movements are a necessary part of a religious development of every society. There is a lot of different religious movements. Therefore, it is especially challenging to make legislation related to them. The legislator should consider religion a private part of everyone's life. Act No. 3/2002 Coll., which is the most important piece of legislation for New Religious Movements, does not distinguish terminologically between New Religious Movements and the traditional churches. A long tradition in the Czech Republic and a lot of members have for example Seventh-day Adventist Church, Jehovah's Witnesses and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Being a member of a New Religious Movement can particularly affect man's life. Conflicts between New Religious Movements and...

Intertextuální a mýtické. Rezidenční komplexy Piastovců a Přemyslovců od poloviny 10. do konce 11. století / Intertextual and mythical. The royal seats of Piasts and Premyslids between mid-10th and late 11th century AD

Oleś, Kamila January 2019 (has links)
In Central Europe, an early medieval architectural complex, in which palatial remnants have been either unearthed or expected on the basis of historical writing, is often classified as a royal/princely seat. Thus, the architectural criteria are used to define the residential areas. Alas, in most studies the interpreted architectural remnants are simply juxtaposed without taking into account their terresial and landscape context. I demonstrate that in some cases landscape significance of royal seats was constructed without taking into account any spatial evidence. Secondly, I illustrate that by isolating a single building within the royal seat from its landscape and textual context, the spatial aspects of the structure were misinterpreted. However, our understanding of the local environment is essential to identify the role of architectural "quotation" in the semantic creation of space of the royal seats in the past. Thus, based on a textual approach to architecture and landscape, my thesis aims to deconstruct the meaning of early medieval royal seats, and to demythologize the interpretation of early medieval royal seats in Central Europe. In addition, I present that both textual (historic writing) and physical (environmental) aspects of the reality creates a historic spatiality that is polarized...

Činnost církevních tajemníků na Šumpersku do roku 1968 / Activity of Church Secretaries at Šumperk region till 1968

Snášelová, Jitka January 2012 (has links)
Activity of Ecclesiastical Secretaries at Šumperk region till 1968. The thesis comprises of activities of ecclesiastical secretaries in Šumperk district. The frame of the work covers period from year 1948 till 1968. After a breaf description of situation in Olomouc diocese after February 1948, the text follows territorial delimination of Šumperk district during fifties and sixties. Then it takes a closer look at influence of secretaries during specific years and from their reports to the senior authority it's trying to determine the most important events and problems of roman catholic church at that time. Special part belongs to religious teaching (connected with difficulties of joining this subject) and antireligious propaganda, therefore atheistic education. Further the text follows litigations of priests, that were unlawfully sentenced and imprisoned based on fabricated cases of communist regime. Even though these were local cases, that no one knew about past the district borders, it is worthwhile mentioning them as they substantially influenced lives of these priest. Last but not least the attention is brought to persons of ecclesiastical secretaries and priests, that had to try to get on under the pressure despite being on oposite sides of the barricade.

Nové církevní zákony z roku 1949 / The new ecclesial laws in 1949

Futera, Stanislav January 2014 (has links)
The topic of the thesis are so-called "new ecclesiastical laws" accepted in 1949, that had served as one of the power tools for the oppression of the Churches and the control over the society. Within the chapters in sequence I deal with the description and genesis of these new ecclesiastical laws, received by Czechoslovak communist regime in 1949 and their importance not only for the confessional law of the following period until now. In this context I ask the question what are the extent effects not only for the life of the Churches, esp. the Catholic Church, but also for the mentality of the contemporary Czech society in relationship with the Church. This thesis is concerned with three spheres that are necessarily interconnected: First, the legislation of these laws themselves, second, the social reception of the Church interlinked with these laws, and third sphere is also the projection of these laws into the political rhetoric nowadays. The goal of the thesis is to reveal the deep interconnection and dynamics of the three spheres given, and explore how the way they were manifested in the past, and have consequently been manifested until these days. Keywords Czechoslovakia, 1949, ecclesiastical laws, the power and the law, present time: law, society and politics.
