The role played by the church management and the court of law in legitimising the status of Lebowakgomo congregation

Text in English / Lebowakgomo congregation is situated in the Northern Province the growth point of former Lebowa Government The study was based on the understanding the procedures and processes which were followed when legitimising the congregational secession . Secession is an act to withdraw formally from a union, especially from a religious organisation. The secession of Lebowakgomo congregation from Lerato congregation took a decade before it was implemented. The secession was delayed by technical problems such as the expulsion of the minister, the death of an eider's son, the arrival of three ministers and various interpretations of the Church Order. The Process of secession was affected by the legacy of change within the community. That is, the idea of secession was introduced to the congregation by the minister in trying to curb congregation administration problems. This process could not take off because some of the congregants had not fully conceptualised the idea. The process of secession ended into conflicts of ideology and also in the interpretation of the Church Order of which lead to additional attitudinal developments within the management structures of the NGKA. The church council of Lebowakgomo also developed an attitude against the Synodical commission which lead to the involvement of the court of law as an arbitrator. The hypothesis tested in this thesis is: "Is Lebowakgomo congregation a legitimate congregation within the structures of the NGKA?" Lebowakgomo congregation is the first to challenge a decision made by the Synod. It is the first to demand its rights through the court of law. This was a drastic change with regard to the Church history of the NGKA. Thus, this study has traced the development of Lebowakgomo secession until it was legitimised by the court of law. The main thrust of this study was to provide academic reasoning to the following questions, Is secession legitimised after being approved by: - the Church council? - the Presbytery council? - after a secession ceremony was held? - after registration by the Synodical commission secretary? - after being published in the Church news paper? The positive ruling by the court of law in legitimising Lebowakgomo congregation within the structures of the NGKA, was noted in spite of dissatisfaction expressed by some church structures and church management. This clearly indicated that the role of church managers in a changing society is one in constant metamorphosis with regard to reconstructing and developing church organisation and management. / Church History / Th. La thèse, fondée sur l’étude systématique des sources de première main, porte sur le personnel ecclésiastique et sur la vie musicale. Un fait propre à la Sainte-Chapelle est ainsi mis en avant : l’interdépendance du statut ecclésiastique et de la place de musicien. La vie musicale à la Sainte-Chapelle de Paris aux XVIe et XVIIe siècles n’a pas été réévaluée après Michel Brenet (1910). L’exploitation des sources, le développement des études liturgiques et les avancées de la recherche musicologique permettent de renouveler la connaissance de cette église et de sa musique. En fondant la chapelle du Palais, Louis IX établit le personnel ecclésiastique de la Sainte-Chapelle. Alors que la monarchie et la cour délaissent cette église au profit de la chapelle royale, François Ier établit une corrélation entre le personnel musical et l’ensemble des ecclésiastiques. Cette interdépendance, maintenue par le Chapitre, aboutit sous Louis XIVà une assemblée majoritairement constituée de musiciens / The musical life of the Sainte Chapelle in Paris during the 16th and 17th centuries has not been reassessed since the work of Michel Brenet (1910). The exploitation of sources, development of liturgical studies and advances in musicological research allow for a renewal of our understanding of this church and its music. By founding the Palace chapel, Louis IX established the clergy of the Sainte Chapelle. While monarchy and court abandon this church for the chapel royal, Francis I establishes a correlation between the musical and ecclesiastical staff of the Sainte Chapelle. This interdependence, maintained by the Chapter, results under Louis XIV in an assembly constituted of a majority of musicians. This thesis, based on the systematic study of primary sources, focuses on the clergy and musical activity. A particularity of the Sainte Chapelle is thus revealed: the interdependence of ecclesiastical status and appointment as a musician

The visibility to the sociocultural contexts promoted by the Science of Information motivated in this research work the documental preservation and of the ecclesiastic institutional memory as a theme of reflexion and archival proceedings in the documental mass accumulated in the South Presbytery of Paraiba and its churches. The familiarity of many years and the Presbyterian institutional experiences brought a reflection: How does the documental management can contribute to the ecclesiastical memory of the South Presbytery of Paraíba? The raised question motivated the research and raised the definition of the general definition like: To analyse the present state of the documental mass that constitutes the memorialistic universe of the South Presbytery of Paraíba with the purpose of the preservation of its institutional memory and in a specific way to elaborate a manual of archival proceedings to the preservation of documents ruled by the principles of the documental management. Exploratory, documentary, qualitative research, directed its collect and data analysis to the documents of permanent use for understanding that the preservation of these documents with its historical informational value will strengthen the collective memory and the life of a community. The manual of the archival proceedings to the organization and preservation of the institutional memory of the South Presbytery of Paraíba takes part in the written presentation as appendix and soon after the delivery of legal procedures to the coordination of the Post graduation of Science Information Programme will be delivered to the direction of the South Presbytery of Paraíba with the purpose of evoking the possibility of an archival structuration to the supports of information which research pointed to the need of an archival organization to the preservation of the history and the ecclesiastic institutional collective memory of the Churches in the South Presbytery in the State of Paraíba. / O Presbitério Sul da Paraíba é um concílio da Igreja Presbiteriana do Brasil no Estado da Paraíba que tem sob sua jurisdição atualmente onze igrejas. A visibilidade aos contextos socioculturais promovidos pela Ciência da Informação motivou neste trabalho de pesquisa a preservação documental e de memória institucional eclesiástica como um tema de reflexão e procedimentos arquivísticos na massa documental acumulada do Presbitério Sul da Paraíba e suas igrejas. Don Feliciano de Vega y Padilla (1580-1641) was one of the most distinguished members of the Peruvian colonial episcopate in the first half of the seventeenth century, and the only one who, after an outstanding ecclesiastical career, was appointed archbishop of Mexico. His passionate life, professional profile and intellectual production make Don Feliciano an interesting case study in order to understand the complex and tense dynamics of power linking Royal Patronage and the most important religious and political institutions in the city of Lima during the early colonial period. The study of Dr. Vega’s life and work also shedslight on the first generation of colonial intellectuals who debated the rights of Creole subjects. The works written by Bishop Vega constitute some of the first written expressions of the defense of prelacies and offices within the colonial Church, and the debate over the doctrine of Distributive Justice which was used to justify these claims. This article analyzes the relationship between Bishop Vega and the principal viceregal institutions: the university, the archbishopric, the cathedral chapter and the Royal Audience. Finally, it will analyze how Lima’s elite citizens, of which Vega was one, manipulated these institutions. / Don Feliciano de Vega y Padilla (1580-1641) fue acaso la personalidad más destacada y emblemática del episcopado virreinal peruano de la primera mitad del siglo XVII. Luego de una brillante carrera en la universidad y el cabildo catedralicio de la ciudad de Lima, llegó a presidir tres diócesis hispanoamericanas, siendo la última de ellas el arzobispado de México. Su perfil profesional yproducción intelectual lo convierten en una de las figuras más influyentes de la elite social limeña y de la burocracia religiosa imperial de su tiempo. Su vida y su obra también ayudan a entender la trama de poder y la compleja dinámica de las relaciones entre la Corona y el virreinato peruano. Su poco conocida obra constituye una de las piedras angulares de la tradición memorialista peruana, interesada en la defensa de los derechos de prelación y el debate sobre la doctrina de la justicia distributiva. Este artículo analiza la conexión entre el doctor Vega y las principales instituciones virreinales: la universidad, el arzobispado, el cabildo catedralicio y la Real Audiencia. Asimismo, se estudia la manipulación de dichas instituciones por parte del grupo de los beneméritos, al que Vega perteneció.

This article explores the reasons behind the decision by the high clergy and the Crown to advocate a «self-support» policy for the parishes. For those powers, it was more convenient to allow parishes to raise their own revenues instead of finding new sources of income, which could erode tithe collections or put further pressure on the royal treasury, as suggested by some isolated voices during the fourth Mexican provincial council of 1771. However, the predominating trend was to induce the faithful to support their parishes. / El objetivo de este artículo es exponer los motivos del alto clero y de la Corona para reafirmar la política de lo que aquí llamo «auto-sustento» de los curatos. Para esos poderes era más conveniente que cada curato se autofinanciara a tener que buscar nuevas fuentes de ingreso, lo cual podía desembocar en un mayor reparto del diezmo o extraer recursos de la Real Hacienda, como plantearon algunas voces aisladas en el IV Concilio provincial mexicano de 1771. La tendencia fue, por el contrario, garantizar que los fieles sustentaran a cada parroquia.

Quais as solidariedades e conflitos que estabeleceram através de suas práticas? / This master’s thesis seeks to clarify the established relation between those practicing magic - healers, faith healers, soothsayers and sorceresses - and colonial society through Ecclesiastical Visitations that have swept the inside of the region of Minas during the eighteenth century. Bishops, inquisitorial agents and representatives of the Portuguese Crown produced a series of documents between 1717 and 1802 that allow to peer into the daily life of eighteenth-century in Minas. The main issues of the study are: who were these magicians? What is their relationship with the population of Minas? What solidarities and conflicts they have established through their practices?

The work becomes more complex when the author begins the narrative of the events of his contemporary times, which make up the second part of his work Ecclesiastical History.
