Essays on the eclectic paradigm and foreign direct investment into IndiaWagner, Chris 12 February 2021 (has links)
Since the 2000s, India has emerged as one of the top recipients of foreign direct investment (FDI) amongst the emerging markets. Yet, the international business (IB) literature on FDI flows into India is still nascent. Recent developments have not been adequately covered and a coherent theoretical framework guiding a contextualized discussion is rarely utilized. This three paper dissertation seeks to explore the idiosyncrasies of post-millennial India and how they connect to the current motivation of foreign multinational enterprises (MNEs) to invest into the Indian market. While the research is theory-driven, the empirical findings provide a new perspective to the IB debate by helping to better understand the sensitivity of FDI decisions to various phenomena in India’s economic, institutional and social fabric in the 2000s. Both the recent diversification within knowledge-intensive industries and the various pro-market reforms that are increasingly bearing fruits have created new opportunities for foreign MNEs – especially for those targeting India’s tertiary sector and its large specialized talent base.

Internationalization Challenges for Retail Firms in Emerging Asian Markets : A case study of IKEAKhan, Asif, Shafiq, Ahmed Ali January 2021 (has links)
There has been prior research on the internationalization process of retail firms. However, most of the research has investigated the developed countries' markets. There has been little research on the internationalization process of retail firms, especially in the emerging Asian markets. The emerging Asian markets are different from developed markets. Therefore, internationalization challenges and hindrances are dissimilar in this region than in developed countries' markets. Previously, there have been numerous researches on IKEA and other Swedish retail firms on the internationalization process. However, most of the research study has been done on its movement to developed markets. There has been little research done on IKEA's internationalization into emerging Asian markets. There are different challenges faced by firms, when entering into the emerging Asian market and during the business in these markets. However, the emerging Asian markets are different from other continents, especially the Western and developed markets. This research study aims to fill the existing knowledge gap by exploring the challenges that IKEA faces in emerging Asian markets. In addition to this, by the research, we seek to develop our understanding of the challenges faced by Swedish retail firms while entering emerging Asian markets. Furthermore, by exploring the challenges that retail firms face in the emerging Asian markets, we also aim to provide possible solutions on how IKEA and other retail firms can resolve or tackle the issues they face in emerging Asian markets.

Aprender a escribir en los niveles iniciales de ELE : Un análisis de manuales del nivel A2 para el diseño de una propuesta didáctica / Learning to write in Spanish basic levels : A textbooks' analysis of level A2 for the creation of a written expression proposalAlvarez, Georgina January 2016 (has links)
This paper aims to analyse the presence of written expression activities in Spanish as a Foreign Language textbooks designed for adults in a pre-intermediate level (A2). Moreover, the purpose is to examine the approach which is used in relation to two key aspects of the written composition: the discourse genres and the writing process. With this objective, we compile data using an analysis template that is completed with information from five textbooks from different Spanish publishers after 2006. According to the data collection, there is a prolific presence of written expression activities in the analysed textbooks. Regarding the genres of discourse, the textbooks place relevance to the explicit practice of the following aspects: the communicative context, the audience and the purpose. However, a low presence of model texts for the students to use for their own compositions is also noted, as well as a virtually non-existent reflection of the model texts' structure and characteristics. As far as the writing process is concerned, the textualization is the process with more presence in the analysed textbooks, whereas planning and reviewing are marginalised with a lower occurrence. To the same extent, we would like to emphasize the low relevance of revision, especially that among peers. Taking into account the results and based an eclectic approach to the teaching of written expression, we present a teaching proposal for an A2 level in which the discourse genre and the writing process are dealt with explicitly, as well as we intend to encourage collaborative writing.

Last Word in Art Shades: The Textual State of James Joyce's UlyssesTully-Needler, Kelly Lynn 06 March 2008 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / James Joyce’s Ulysses is a work of art that engendered scandal in every stage of its production, dissemination, and reception. The work is now hailed as the prose monument of modernism, a twentieth-century masterpiece, and revolutionary in its stylistic technique, its foregrounding of language and psychological drama, and its ambiguity. Ulysses is, in truth, a simple tale, about a lifetime of one day, in a world of one place, in the lives of one people, played out on a stage of pages. The telling of the tale is far from simple—it is among the greatest literary artifacts of our cultural heritage. But the text of Ulysses continues to be entangled in the tension of its status as both a literary artifact, created by an artist, and a cultural artifact, influenced by the aspects of its currency. Among the many questions the novel begs is, who controls the meaning of a work of literary art? This thesis begins to answer that question.
Chapter 1 surveys available materials and outlines four waves in the history of textual scholarship of Ulysses. This chapter reads like the prose version of a library catalogue. Sorry, it is a symptom of academese. Chapter 2 outlines the history of censorship and suppression of Ulysses. Chapter 3 gives a historical context to legalizing the work and discusses the implications of the ban upon the development and reliability of the text. Chapter 4 outlines the second scandal of Ulysses, at the close of the twentieth century, now commonly referred to as the Joyce Wars. Chapter 5 discusses the influences upon Gabler’s editorial method and the resultant text. Together, these chapters tell the story of the book's creation and life in print.

An ethnographic exploration of intrapersonal, interpersonal and intra-group conflict management interventions in an institution of higher educationVan Niekerk, Adriana Martha Maria 10 1900 (has links)
This study explores the world of human conflict in the workplace, the workplace (in this case) being a South African university. Using the academic tools of ethnography and autoethnography, I investigate the dimensions of human conflict management, which include intrapersonal, interpersonal and intra-group conflict management, from a psychological perspective. In this thesis I refer, in particular, to examples and extractions taken from case studies that focus on conflicts between employees. In doing so I used an eclectic, psychodynamic theoretical frame of reference. The data was collected and processed over a period of fourteen years. Another focus of this thesis is my reflections on my personal development as a counselling psychologist specialising in intrapersonal, interpersonal and intra-group conflict management within an institutional organisation. The participants‟ stories revealed intense emotional experiences and I have put forward suggestions on how these experiences could be explored and dealt with by means of psychologically orientated techniques and interventions within the boundaries of the ethical codes and values of counselling psychology. My eclectic choice of brief psychotherapy, strengths-based counselling, and psychodynamic-based intrapersonal, interpersonal and intra-group interventions are included in my personal narrative. This study serves only as a guideline to other counselling psychologists who deal with human conflicts in similar situations. I have not tried to present a generalised theory. In this study, I argue strongly that there is indeed a place for counselling psychologists and the application of psychological knowledge in the world of human resources departments in organisations. I believe that counselling psychologists can operate, alternatively, as individual counselling psychologists, workshop facilitators and co-facilitators, as consultants, and as members of multidisciplinary teams to address, among other, conflict management in a tertiary institution. / Psychology / D.
