The most difficult educational tasks for those who have the least educational education" : - A qualitative study on the student assistant as a special educational effortLindbom, Therese January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate what kind of support being conducted by the profession student assistant, and how their role is linked to students with special educational needs. The study is based on previous research how the role student assistant is functioning in relation to students with special educational needs. Individualized educational plans have been collected and processed using document analysis as a method. In-depth interviews of semi-structured nature was also conducted with a principal, a special teacher and three student assistants. The results of the document analysis were analyzed and complied in a table and the recorded interviews were transcribed and complied based on themes. The result of the document analysis was analyzed, summarized and then compared in relation to previous research as well as the theoretical framework of the study. The results in terms of what is required from the student assistant are pointing towards needs of social character. In other words, the role of the student assistant is primarily to function as a support structure, especially in social contexts. A part within the role also includes teaching, either individually or in smaller groups. The student’s assistants need for support can be categorized into planning time, supervision and adequate education. Whether, and in what extent various support is given, varies from the result. The result demonstrates that the pupil’s academic progression is being ensured via dialogues between teachers and student assistants as well as various types of tests.

Медиаресурс как средство коммуникативно-информационной технологии для формирования межкультурной коммуникации : магистерская диссертация / Media resource as a means of communication and information technology for the formation of intercultural communicationСюзюмова, Л. А., Syuzyumova, L. A. January 2023 (has links)
In the era of global transformation and communications at the crossroads of several cultures, intercultural communication is not only a theoretical notion to be studied, but also a practical talent that is in demand on the job market for specialists in various fields. Today's modern society is in desperate need of an expert with the ability to improvise and come up with novel ideas, as well as someone with organizational skills and knowledge of cross-cultural communication. The issue of training experts at this level is therefore more important than ever. Due to factors like digitalization, globalization, the possibilities of cross cultural dialogue, etc., today's educational needs are different from those of past generations An important task for pedagogical workers in the field of intercultural communication is to identify mechanisms for forming intercultural competence within the educational trajectory, specifically addressing the issue of forming intercultural competence to function in circumstances of individualization and special educational needs. Since every educational process takes place in a specific setting, this study's social subject's environment qualifies as an educational environment when taken as a whole. The development of students with special educational needs in the building of competence in intercultural communication should be stimulated by the competent structuring of the educational environment. Understanding the cultural diversity of the world based on the analysis of situations of intercultural space is a necessary condition for the educational process of students with special educational needs to successfully form intercultural communication, in addition to knowledge of the lexical and grammatical fundamentals of the language. Such information can be obtained through media resources, whose analysis enables the integration of the process of formation and the teaching of a foreign language. Consequently, the relevance of the topic of research lies in the fact that the process of forming 5 intercultural communication among students with high educational needs within the framework of language courses of additional education, using the media resource of the "Empower" textbook, as a means of communication and information technology, is of great theoretical and practical interest.

Thesis (M.Ed. (Community and Continuing Education)) -- University of Limpopo, 2022 / This study is an exploration of the educational needs and assets of the visual
impaired undergraduate students at a Rural-Based University in South Africa.
The research question addressed is What are the educational needs and
assets of the visual impaired Undergraduate students at a Rural-Based
University in South Africa. The study is underpinned within the interpretivist
paradigm. A qualitative research approach was adopted, utilising a case study
design. Data was collected through document analysis, semi-structured
interviews and observations. Analytic induction in which themes, patterns and
categories emerged from the data was deemed appropriate. The study sample
was composed of the Director of Reakgona Disability Centre, four the visual
impaired undergraduate students from the three faculties of the University of
Limpopo (Humanities, Management and Law, and Science and Agriculture), as
well as four academic staff members teaching the sampled students. The total
study sample comprised nine participants.
The study has revealed the existence of a highly inflexible curriculum, lack of
assistive devices, poor teaching and assessment strategies, untrained
academic staff, poor support from the majority of academic staff members, poor
support from a few of the peers with normal sight, difficulties during transition
from secondary school to university, and limited library services that led to the
marginalisation of the visual impaired undergraduate students.
The study also found that the visual impaired undergraduate students possess
the following educational assets: the availability of Reakgona Disability Centre,
support from the majority of peers with normal sight, support from a few
academic staff members, availability of associations and institutions that offer
financial assistance to the visual impaired students, and the health clinic that
provides health care.
Based on the findings of the research some conclusions were drawn. Several
recommendations are made to address the educational needs and assets of
the visual impaired undergraduate students at a Rural-Based University in
South Africa. Suggestions for future research are made to close the gap that
exists in research on the education of students with visual impairments

The practice of inclusive education in the Thohoyandou area : a critical reflectionSidogi, Mukondeleli Grace 08 1900 (has links)
The National Commission of Special Needs in Education and Training (NCSNET) Document
(1997) which portrays the new Education Policy in South Africa. clearly states that one of the
crucial outcomes is that all possible barriers to learning must be eliminated so that all learners
are able to actualise their full potential.
Inclusive education, as embedded within the Education Policy, is regarded as an approach
which will allow learners to actualise their full potential.
This study is a critical reflection on whether inclusive education is practised in primary
schools in the Thohoyandou area. The research findings indicated that inclusive education is
not practised in the Thohoyandou area. A major factor or barrier in this regard is that teachers
and principals are not empowered in terms ofknowledge to practise inclusive education. Other
factors acting as barriers to the implementation of inclusive education are that the school
buildings do not cater for physically and visually impaired learners as well as the attitudes of
teachers, parents and peers are inclined to be negative towards learners experiencing barriers
to learning. The community should also be educated and empowered to assist and understand
these learners, who will become the future members of the community, more effectively,
As inclusive education is one of the means whereby all learners are given the opportunity to
actualise their full potential, these barriers must be addressed so that inclusive education can
be practised in all primary schools in the Thohoyandou area. A few strategies to implement
inclusive education in the Thohoyandou area are suggested by the researcher. / Educational Studies / M. Ed. (Special Needs Education)

Educational policy in a post-apartheid South Africa : an exploratory study of the needs of the Indian communityRasool, Mohamed Hoosen Abbas 09 1900 (has links)
Recent events have brought about the realization that purposeful
advancement in South Africa depends on wide-ranging educational
reforms consistent with the demands of a complex multicultural
society. This necessitates the development of theoretically-sound
policies informed by, and grounded in, the specific historical
and cultural milieu in which it is to be conceived. Within this
context, a particular concern is that little is known about the
educational needs of the Indian community at this juncture. This
concern is also evinced by a multitude of interests within this
minority group.
Al though this investigation focuses on Indian responses to
dominant policy orientations, it conceptualizes the South African
education dynamics in its entirety and interrelatedness and not
as a conglomerate of isolated parts. In sum, this dissertation
endeavours to examine some critical concerns as it affects the
provision of education for people of Indian origin in a postapartheid
South Africa. / Educational Studies / M.Ed. (Comparative Education)
