The aim of the study was to investigate the influence of discourses on homeschool educators’ and homeschool learners’ perceptions of homeschooling and the embodiment thereof in their homeschool practices. The literature confirms the importance of an in-depth investigation to study homeschool educators’ and homeschool learners’ experiences, values, norms, perceptions and discourses with regard to teaching and learning as well as the outcomes set by the homeschool educators. The various systems that the homeschool educators and homeschool learners participate in influence one another. Only when the unique context with its underpinning viewpoints, values, perceptions and discourses is understood will it be possible to see whether the outcomes set by the homeschool educator(s) have been attained. Knowledge in this regard can contribute to an increased understanding of the unique and complex homeschool context and the implications for teaching and learning as well as policy development regarding homeschooling. The unique nature of each homeschool practice emphasizes the importance of an in-depth study regarding the context, which can be seen as a form of subculture, which should be investigated closely in order to gain a deeper and richer understanding of this form of education. The discourses that the homeschool educators and homeschool learners subscribe to are part of this subjective frame. Understanding the discourses can contribute to a better understanding which will enable professionals to provide adequate support to homeschools in a well grounded and responsible manner. A multiple case-study of four homeschools was conducted, each involving the educators, fathers and learners in unstructured interviews and responses on a single projection plate, and including three observation sessions of day-to-day homeschooling activities. The aim of the interviews was to learn about the homeschools from the participants’ perspective. The projection plate was administered to tap into the participants’ personal meanings, thus enhancing the truth value of the research. The observation sessions were intended to yield insight into participants’ behaviour. Finally, a reflective interview was conducted with the homeschool educator for clarification and verification of specific matters. The data analysis entailed a selective discourse analysis of the interview data to the model of discursive psychology, identifying the participants’ primary and secondary discourses, and analysing and discussing a selection of their discursive statements. The projection plates were interpreted and compared to the interview data. The observation data were reviewed to examine the homeschool educators’ and homeschool learners’ behaviours and establish the degree of congruency among their interviews, projections and behaviours. Results and findings were interpreted within the framework provided by the bio-ecological model of Bronfenbrenner. Findings: The discourses that the homeschool educators subscribe to originate from the macrosystemic level and directly influence their perceptions and practices in homeschooling. Therefore, each homeschool is unique; each homeschool practice and many of the perceptions can only be understood and explained through closer investigation of the discourses subscribed to in the microsystem of the family. The discourses form the context of the homeschool and homeschool practices are embedded in this context. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground”). White believes that the Christian interpretation of this verse teaches man to be arrogant toward nature and that God gives man the green light to exploit nature as man pleases. White has leveled serious accusations against the early Christians. This study interprets the Old Testament, New Testament and ancient theologians’ attitude towards creation and God. It deals with the accusations in accordance with the relevant Biblical and post-Biblical writers, to find the basis for the environmental crisis not in Christianity, but in animism. It is true that the ancient Christian writers were indeed more concerned about the hereafter than about the world as it is now. Exploration of factors that lead to early termination of therapeutic services to sexually
abused children at TygerBear Unit.
Some children referred to TygerBear Unit because of sexual abuse did not complete their
therapeutic intervention programmes and possibly did not receive sufficient time to work
through the trauma of sexual abuse. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore
and describe the factors that result in the early termination of sexually abused children’s
therapeutic services at TygerBear Unit. Applied research that is exploratory and
descriptive in nature, with the case study method as strategy, was followed. Data were
collected through telephonic and/or one-on-one semi-structured interviews, in addition to
the use of notes in personal records. Respondents included parents and/or caregivers of
children whose therapy was terminated early, as well as social workers involved with play
therapeutic service delivery to these children. Information was analysed with reference to
the Field Theory, Ecological Theory and the relevant literature. Several factors that
influenced parents and/or caregivers to terminate therapeutic services early were

The ICT pedagogic challenges and enablers of grade eight natural science and mathematics teachers in South African classrooms / Varughese J.Varughese, James January 2011 (has links)
In South Africa, Science and Technology Education faces many problems. Insufficient numbers
of Science and Technology teachers, inadequate in–service training, large classes, instruction
with the aim of narrowly orienting students towards examination passes an insufficient
integration of technology in the curriculum, and insufficient physical infrastructure dominates
the list. The Department of Education envisages the use of ICT as a tool for learning
and teaching. ICT has the potential to improve the quality of education and training. If adequate
resources are available, and teachers have confidence in the usefulness of ICTs, then
the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) may improve the teaching
and learning of Mathematics and Science.
A review of the literature indicated that the deployment of ICT resources alone will not bring
about desirable pedagogical practices in the classroom. There exists a need for interventions
that will enhance ICT pedagogical practices in South Africa. The following main research
questions were formulated:
What are the ICT pedagogic practices used by grade 8 Mathematics and Science teachers in
South African classrooms?
How do the barriers that grade 8 Mathematics and Science teachers encounter, as well as
the support they receive, influence their pedagogical practices?
What is the Principal’s role in promoting the emerging pedagogic practices using ICT in
South African classrooms?
This research comprises a secondary data analysis of the SITES 2006 South African data
base. The population and sample for this study was based on the South African grade 8
Mathematics and Natural science teachers. In SITES 2006, the samples comprised more
than 504 schools. Due to the fact that ICT is only significantly implemented in two out of nine
provinces in South Africa, 25 strata were created to secure fair representation of the population
with 666 Mathematics teachers and 622 Natural Science teachers.
Bromfenbrenner’s Ecological Systems Theory and Engeström’s Activity Theory was used to
investigate Natural Science and Mathematics teachers’ progress in their ICT pedagogical
practices through the time–frame 2004 to 2013, as stipulated in the South Africa’s White paper
on e–Education policy. Statistical analysis using Statistical Package for Social Sciences
was used to address the research and sub–questions. The study found that South African
Mathematics and Natural Science teachers’ level of ICT use is small; when they do use ICT, it is enhanced 21st century pedagogic practices. This is in accordance with findings from the

Die kind in sy middelkinderjare lewensfase se belewenis van sy alkoholmisbruik–gesin kom in verskillende ontwikkelingsterreine na vore, in sy daaglikse interaksie met sy gesin asook in sy wyer skakeling . Alhoewel hy homself gedurende hierdie fase in n losmakingsproses om onafhanklikheid bevind, bly sy gesin steeds vir hom n bron van sekuriteit, hulp en ondersteuning.
Vir die navorsingsmetodologie is die proses in tabelformaat weergegee met behulp van n onderverdeling in vier fases. Gedurende die vierde fase het die interpretering en integrering van die bevindinge gerealiseer. Die gevolgtrekkings waartoe gekom is, is veral geleë in die leemte op nasionale vlak en op die platteland ten opsigte van spesifiek die kind se belewenis van sy alkoholmisbruik–gesin asook sy omgewing. Dit het ook duidelik geword dat daar aandag gegee moet word aan alkoholmisbruik as verskynsel en die alkoholmisbruikte–huweliksverhouding en dat onkunde bestaan ten opsigte van ouerskap en die belewenis van die kind as betrokkene by sy alkoholmisbruik–gesin.
