Mitt värdefulla hjärta : Emotionella upplevelser efter hjärtinfarkt / My valuable heart : Emotional experiences after myocardial infarction

Persson, Cecilia, Ekholm, Carolin January 2009 (has links)

/
Background: Today myocardial infarction is the most common cause of death in Sweden. Participated in the study 500 subjects (men and women), with a minimum age of 18 years, atendy at service of assisted reproductive technology (ART), located in the Greater ABC Paulista, Brazil. For the evaluations, we used the following tools: WHOQOL-Bref, BDI-II, ISQ, ICQ, ISS and socio-demographic questionnaire. The subjects showed a high level of education (62.4pc), good economic situations (80.2pc), the majority over 30 years (82.8pc) and primary infertility (73.2pc). On the QV, levels of depression and stress are men to have better results than women. Sexual satisfaction was found on 56.6pc of subjects, with no differences between the genders. The analysis showed a greater number of women compared to men who seek service (64.8pc). It has been shown that besides the difficulty of the problem of infertility care in ART, in itself, is an impact on the lives of these people. Several research participants have described changes in mood (42.8pc), symptoms of depression (38.8%) and stress (41.4pc) above the general population average. Considering the specific quality of life was examined whether a greater impact in the psychological domain (15.20 points) when compared to the physical domain (15.68 points). The results also showed the importance of psychotherapy for people in care in ART / Este estudo teve como objetivos avaliar a Qualidade de Vida (QV), sintomas depressivos, estresse, satisfação sexual e vivências emocionais em pacientes que apresentam infertilidade. A caracterização da amostra estudada demostrou alto nível escolar (62,4pc), boa condição econômica (80,2pc, idade superior a 30 anos (82,8pc) e a maioria apresenta infertilidade primária (73,2pc).

Gasparini, Eliane Verginia Rovigatti 27 February 2007 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-04T18:29:35Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Eliane Gasparini.pdf: 2989781 bytes, checksum: 336ce92e619721141fd7369dba5d739c (MD5) Previous issue date: 2007-02-27 / This study relates the emotional experiences of infertile couples who decided to seek help in reproductive treatment. The objectives were: to investigate and analyze the main emotional reactions experienced by couples during the fertility treatment; to study the consequences of the reproductive treatment in couple s bonds as well as their bonds with the medical staff and the psychologist; to understand the psychic representations of the desire to have children when associated to a reproductive treatment, and to describe the psychologist s impressions and emotional experience in regard to the couples subjected to the study. Six couples with different medical diagnosis for infertility, seeking for medical treatment for such a problem were surveyed as primary source of information. For the purpose of the study were used methods and techniques such as the psychoanalytical method applied to the couple group ? special group ? according to K?es (1977) and Anzieu (1993), as well as he technique of non-directive interview of Bleger (1993), and the projective technique of free drawings. The technique of content analysis proposed by Mathieu (1967) and K?es (1977) was used to analyze the material collected. Psychoanalysis and group analysis theories were employed in the interpretation of couple s subjective experiences. From the analysis of the interviews and drawings, some elements in the couple s group mentality could be identified, among them the hipercatexization of the desire to have children. The difficulties associated to satisfying such desire unchained a regressive movement and also defensive reactions. The attempt to preserve omnipotent fantasies has compromised the process of tolerance to frustration and to the capacity to wait, or reformulation of the couple s projects. Persecutory-related anguishes were broken out, mainly in the elements of the couples whose personality aspects happened to be compromised the most. Infertility diagnosis as well as the various different fertility treatments led to the unstructuring of couple s bonds. We could observe the loss of intimacy and decrease in sexual desire after successive fertility treatments that break link between sexual intercourse and the reproductive act. Both the desire to transmit genetic heritage forward and the appreciation of biologic child are still part of couple s psychic representations. The biological-child, from the same blood, is the dreamt and idealized child. The satisfactory bond that the couple established with medical staff has interfered in how safe they feel and in their levels of hope and confidence that the fertility treatment will yield positive results. The majority of the couples managed to establish satisfactory bonds with the psychologist, using the interview session as a way to freely express their emotional experiences. The experience with infertile couples on one hand has allowed to increase their level of sensitivity in regard to the emotional phenomena associated to infertility, and on the other hand has helped such couples to think about appropriate means to deal with some problems that are a consequence of this situation. The method used in this study has assured good conditions for research and analysis once it has made possible the proper interpretation of the relationships between the elements of the couple, between the couple and the institution and of the couple and the psychologist. A work of such transference nature is based on the assumption that it is possible to understand the intensity of the psychic representations of the couple group. We recommend the creation of new environments where infertile couples can keep on freely discussing their desires, difficulties, fantasies and hopes, making it easier to understand the experiences originated from infertility. O filho biol?gico, do pr?prio sangue , ? o filho sonhado, idealizado.

Female shoes have important role in women’s life as they represent symbols of power, elegance and sensuality. Shoes assumed love is commonly seen in our society and can be understood as a result of a set of positive emotional experiences lived by women. In this way, the shoe is perceived as belonging in a system that encompasses elements that transcend the physical aspects of the product. Under the product system scope, this study aimed to analyze experiences of ten women from 20 to 53 years old with their loved shoes from an Appraisals analysis. This analysis was made by content analysis, that enabled to conceive empiric categories which were related to seven appraisals components of Appraisals Theory. This study enable to understand the positive emotional triggers that resulted in the love by shoes. Thereby, as a result, this study relates elements which can contribute to designer to design shoes which can become loved shoes by women. Therefore, this research also contributes to women’s shoes studies and for emotional design area.

Understanding HELLP Syndrome in the South African context: a feminist study

Andipatin, Michelle January 2012 (has links)
Philosophiae Doctor - PhD / This thesis is about HELLP Syndrome (hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, low platelet count in pregnancy): a devastating maternal hypertensive complication that results in multi-system changes that can rapidly deteriorate into organ failure and death. Despite rapid advancesin medical technology and medical science this disease continues to take the lives of women and their infants. The only effective intervention for this disorder is immediate termination irrespective of the gestational stage of the pregnancy. The primary objective of this thesis was to explore the subjective experiences and meaningmaking processes of women in and through their high-risk pregnancies. This objective crystallised into the following aims: to facilitate and listen to the voices of women who were HELLP Syndrome survivors; to explore the reported bodily, psychological and emotional experiences of HELLP Syndrome survivors; to understand the role medical intervention and biomedical discourses play in these women’s experiences and finally to explore the subjective experiences of HELLP Syndrome in the context of traditionallyheld notions of motherhood. The study was couched in a feminist poststructuralist epistemology. A material-discursive framework which comprised phenomenological and poststructuralist theorising was usedin an attempt to understand both the lived experiences as well as the discursively constructed nature of those subjective experiences. Thus the analysis encompassed both a broadly phenomenological framework to understand the lived experiences of HELLP Syndrome, and a discourse analysis to explore the meaning-making processes of participants in relation to larger social discourses, in particular the dominant biomedical and motherhood discourses. A qualitative approach using in depth semi-structured interviews was utilisedto gather data. Eleven participants from very diverse backgrounds consented to be part of thisstudy. The findings of the study highlighted the immense trauma, difficulties and challenges participants faced in these high-risk situations. What was evident from the analysis was that their experiences were so diverse and werecompletely shaped by the severity of the disorder and the gestational stage of the pregnancy. Some women ended up in the Intensive Care Units (ICU) and had near-death experiences, some had very premature babies, while some of the participants lost their babies during the process. With regards to the emotional, psychological and corporeal aspects of the disorder, participants described their situations as a disaster, painful and difficult. Due to the rapid deterioration of symptoms, they described the tempo of these events as a whirlwind in which they felt they had no control. Emotions ranged from shock, total disbelief and surprise to anger, helplessness and powerlessness. Lacking knowledge and access to appropriate information further compounded the situation for participants. Theparticipants who had premature babies found the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit experience (NICU) extremely challenging and stressful. A discourse analysis revealed that women’s talk was shaped by the disciplinary frameworks oftechnocratic medicine and patriarchal notions of gender. Participants’ discourses about their encounters inthe medical context werelocated in, and shaped by, the structure of health care in our country. In this regard binaries (like private versus public health care, women versus men and nurses versus doctors) were evident. Furthermore their hospital stay reflected their experiences in the Intensive Care (ICU) and the Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) both of which are highly technologically orientated and managed. Biomedical discourses that filtered through the participants’ talk were: medicine as indisputable truth;mechanistic model of the body as machine; medical doctors as gods and the foetus as ‘super subject’. Discourses of risk were inevitably taken up as participants tried to make sense of both their current pregnancies and the potential ones to follow. The passage into motherhood for these participants was dependent on whether they had live babies or not. For those who had live babies it was a difficult time as they had to contend with their own recovery as well as the prematurity of their infants. The NICU experience was described as tiring, trying and cumbersome. For mothers who lost their babies it was a time of profound sadness and loss coupled to the notion that motherhood itself was lost. This loss of their children symbolised broken dreams, severed connections and a powerful taboo. In addition, discourses in which motherhood was naturalised and normalised saturated their talk and framed their experience in a narrative of deficit and failure. The ideologies of mother blame and the ‘all responsible’ mother were pervasive in their discussions. In conclusion, this high-risk situation represented a time of tremendous uncertainty and unpredictability for all participants and was powerfully shaped by dominant discourses about motherhood and the biomedical discursive and institutional framework in which participants were subjugated. The study thus highlights how the HELLP syndrome experience illuminates the erasure of women’s subjectivities while the foetus/infants’ life takes precedence. This has significant implications for scholarship in general and feminist scholarship in particular and highlights the need for this type of engagement in an area that has remained on the periphery of feminist research. / South Africa

Experiencias vividas por niños a través de un taller de mindfulness en un centro de Lima Metropolitana / Children experiences through a mindfulness workshop in a metropolitan center in Lima

Palacios Rejas, Armando 26 November 2021 (has links)
This research carries out a descriptive and interpretive journey regarding the experiences of the practice of mindfulness with children. For this purpose, a qualitative approach with an interpretive phenomenological nature was used. The findings of this study are established in four inductive and deductive categories, based on the theoretical foundations and the children's narration. In this manner, the analysis of the experiences of each of the children is possible. A semi-structured interview was used to collect the information from the 4 children (two boys and two girls). Thus, 2 of the 4 children specified having experienced concentrating during the exercises, however, all of them claimed to use some of their 5 senses to collect information from both the external and internal environment. On the other hand, all of them commented to be able to reflect and generate learning based on the experience of the workshop. They also expressed the possibility of exploring and learning more about their thoughts and feelings. Finally, they indicated having been able to recognize emotions in themselves and in others, in order to apply them in personal cases. This study concludes that the experiences of the children through the mindfulness workshop denote the exploration of mental and emotional elements. / Tesis

Illuminating the Dark : Measuring Emotional Experiences of Dark Tourism Consumers

Szalaiova, Dana, Vidrinskas, Mark January 2023 (has links)
This study examines the emotional experiences of 152 respondents visiting ‘light’, ‘lighter’, and ‘lightest’ dark tourism sites and the relationship those experiences have with positive word-of-mouth. Therefore, the theoretical contribution of this study fills in the research gap by focusing on the destinations on the ‘lighter’ periphery of Stone’s Dark Tourism Spectrum. The ‘lighter’ destinations which are more commercialized, education- or entertainment-based in nature. In contrast to the destinations on the ‘darker’ periphery of the Dark Tourism Spectrum which are commemorative and where death and tragedy actually occurred. Our results suggest that tourists experience a broad range of both positive and negative emotions when visiting these destinations.
