Ahmed, Riyam, Strindeby Grafström, Felix January 2022 (has links)
Introduction: This study conceptualizes and provides a description of 'organizational readiness' from an employee perspective for a start-up to achieve success in their growth journey. Purpose: The study aims to gain a deeper understanding of how employees within a start-up experience the growth phase. Method: The study is of a qualitative orientation and is based on collected data from interviews with nine employees from two companies. Results: The results show that employees within start-ups are attracted to the high pace of such companies, and that their motivation lies within the ability to work hard, and be an integral part of the company's decision making processes and journey into the scale-up phase. This is offset by micromanaging and a sense of being disconnected from the companies core structures. Conclusion: Leadership within start-ups plays a vital part in the companies growth, where the entrepreneurial leader may be essential in the start-up phase, but not necessarily in the scale-up phase.

Barriers to Women Leadership of Small and Medium Enterprises in Nigeria

Ojinta, Roseline Iruoma 01 January 2018 (has links)
Management literature lacks a deeper understanding of barriers to Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) leadership among women entrepreneurs in Nigeria focusing on women leaders' daily business experiences, their agency, and their entrepreneurial context. Women in Nigeria seeking promotion to leadership roles in SMEs continue to look for answers on how to surmount the multiple barriers hampering their leadership aspirations. To address this need, this study was designed to explore how women entrepreneurs in Nigeria describe barriers to SME leadership through narratives about their daily business experiences, their agency, and their entrepreneurial context. The women's entrepreneurial development in Nigeria, the Nigerian women's entrepreneurial leadership style, and the agentic behavior of women leaders provided the conceptual framework for this work. A qualitative narrative inquiry method was adopted, and data were gathered through face-to-face semistructured interviews. The participants were a purposeful sample of 10 Nigerian women entrepreneurial leaders over the age of 30. The transcribed interviews were analyzed using thematic analysis. Five thematic categories emerged and were used to answer the research question. Study findings showed that Nigerian women entrepreneurial leaders face challenges due to family, gender, and patriarchal attitudes of the culture. The study shows the experiences, challenges, and triumphs of these courageous and resilient Nigerian women entrepreneurial leaders. Positive social change implications include providing training, mentoring programs, and information to guide, empower, and equip upcoming women entrepreneurial leaders to avert challenges in the future.

[pt] EFEITOS DA LIDERANÇA SERVIDORA E EMPREENDEDORA NO FOMENTO DA INOVAÇÃO NO SETOR PÚBLICO / [en] EFFECTS OF SERVANT AND ENTREPRENEURIAL LEADERSHIP IN FOSTERING INNOVATION IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR

WALESKA YONE YAMAKAWA Z CAMPOS 30 August 2021 (has links)
[en] This study examines the associations of servant leadership and entrepreneurial leadership with innovative behavior in the context of the public sector. Furthermore, it was verified whether the relationships are mediated by psychological empowerment and engagement, respectively. The core of the hypothesis is that these leadership styles help employees to be more engaged, psychologically empowered and innovative. To test the hypotheses, partial least squares structural equation modeling was applied with data from a sample of 135 public servants from the Courts of Auditors from 14 Brazilian states, obtained through an electronic questionnaire. To estimate and remove the common method bias, a marker variable technique is used. The results demonstrate that the effects of servant leadership on innovative behavior are fully mediated by psychological empowerment. Furthermore, the results show that entrepreneurial leadership has a direct and positive association with innovative behavior, so that these effects are partially mediated by engagement. The study contributes to the understanding of the effects of servant and entrepreneurial leadership, as well as individual attributes, in fostering innovation in the public sector. Finally, contributions to management theory and practice are discussed.

Entreprenöriellt lärande i teknikundervisningen på gymnasiet / Entrepreneurial Learning in Technology Teaching in Upper Secondary School

Hih, Mohammed January 2021 (has links)
According to the national Swedish curriculum for upper secondary school (Skolverket, 2011a), entrepreneurial abilities and competencies are seen as the way forward to prepare students for the challenges that exist in today's society, it develops their abilities to take initiative and responsibility, and stimulates their motivation and commitment. The study investigated the teacher's teaching methods and their attitudes regarding teaching entrepreneurial education in the technology program in upper secondary school in order to stimulate these entrepreneurial abilities in students, as well as what obstacles teachers experienced and what resources are required. Questionnaires were sent to technology teachers in high schools to investigate this. It emerged that the unclear definition of the concept of entrepreneurship has led to different interpretations which, in turn, have led to different implementations. The teachers' interpretation of entrepreneurship could be divided into three approaches: development of entrepreneurship that mainly takes place through business start-ups / Young Enterprise (UF) concept, development of design thinking for value-creating purposes that mainly takes place through project-based assignments and finally development of entrepreneurial skills through traditional teaching from the textbook, the teachers' reviews and written and oral exercises. The study revealed clear obstacles that limit the implementation of entrepreneurial learning in today's teaching such as lack of time, equipment, facilities, teaching materials and lack of contacts with businesses to be able to create reality-based tasks that support students' learning and increase their motivation. In addition, the study highlights that a change in thinking about the school's culture and structure is required, such as more support from the school management, collegial collaborations, adapted equipment and premises. Teachers also need a clear definition of the concepts of entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial learning, deep subject and didactic knowledge, good leadership and sufficient time for entrepreneurial learning to be prominent and permeate technology teaching in all upper secondary schools.

Entrepreneurial Qualities for Successful Development and Sustainability of New Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises

Zehr, Brock Allyn 01 January 2016 (has links)
Entrepreneurial small businesses are significant to the U.S. economy, as they represent 99% of employer firms and employ 49% of the private sector. Nearly half of new businesses fail within the first 5 years of operation. While external factors beyond the control of business owners account for some failures, many occur because of managerial inadequacies. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore the lived experiences of successful entrepreneurs to understand the qualities needed to create and sustain new small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) beyond 5 years. The sample consisted of 21 entrepreneurs from Northeastern Indiana who created and operated SMEs successfully for at least 5 years. The conceptual framework for this study was human capital theory and entrepreneurial leadership theory. The data were collected from semistructured interviews. Participants completed transcript reviews and member checking was conducted to enhance data credibility and trustworthiness. The phenomenological reduction method was used for data analysis and included bracketing, horizontalizing, clustering, integrating invariant statements, and synthesizing composites. The following themes emerged in addressing the guiding question: entrepreneurial intention recognized at a young age, creative problem-solving skills, business and support systems, entrepreneurial passion, opportunity recognition and seizure, and task and managerial delegation. The study findings can help inform best practices to help future entrepreneurs, and those who educate, train, and mentor them, create and operate successful new ventures.

Sailing through storms : A practical exhibition of entrepreneurial leadership methods

Hagert, Simon, Lantz, Gustav January 2017 (has links)
Weathering the entrepreneurial storm is considered by many an art form in itself but an undeniable, universal truth is the unilateral impact of an extraordinary leader on the chances of triumph in the face of great adversity. Yet the focus of academic studies all too often concerns the understanding of the weather patterns, the choice of captain and the direction of the ship rather than how to turn the wheel, raise the mast or set the sails. This study has the aim of deciphering the routines, actions and methods of entrepreneurial leaders so as to produce tangible, actionable knowledge which real practitioners can bestow upon themselves. This is a collective case study which examines ten entrepreneurial leaders from various cities throughout Sweden using semi-structured, in-depth interviews. The findings pertain to routines, activities and methods that they use to fulfil five roles of effective entrepreneurial leadership which are further boiled down to 52 thematic strategies. These strategies are then aligned into five fundamental skills; encompassing a collective approach, building individual relationships, fragmentation, dynamic perspective and utilising feedback. We believe that through developing these skills that entrepreneurial leaders can better cultivate their own routines, activities and methods contingent to their particular circumstance and transaction set.
