Disserta??o (Mestrado Profissional) ? Programa de P?s-Gradua??o em Ci?ncias Humanas, Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri, 2015. / ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the role of slaves and freedmen in Diamantina to achieve or maintain freedom, through the judicial apparatus. The documentary source used were the so-called civil claims of freedom, located in Ant?nio Torres Library (BAT), in Diamantina, territory of the former region of Serro and location chosen for this research. The time frame covers the period between 1850, when the slave trade was abolished, and the year 1871, taking as a basis the period prior to the enactment of the Law of Free Birth on 28 September 1871. This choice of chronological frame is justified because, from that law, a new standard in relations between masters and slaves increases with State interference in matters relating to manumission. Achieving freedom was the goal of men and women who sought justice to claim their rights. In contrast, there were those who filed actions to establish or maintain their free status, which reveals aspects that highlight the obstacles and the precarious border separating the bondage of liberty imposed in the daily lives of slave relations. Slaves and freedmen are thus the main characters talking (even indirectly) in the processes.

No. of bitstreams: 1 457185.pdf: 2221302 bytes, checksum: d73128497d71b55a27ca970c26ab37cf (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014-03-24 / This paper aims to discuss the Campaign Operario Padrao in the period 1970-1985. To this end, we used documents related to the contest; especially of workers who won the competition in the state of Rio Grande do Sul at the mentioned period, as well as oral interviews with some of these personages. The contest, held since 1955 in the state of Rio de Janeiro and then extended to the rest of the country, lasted for a long time, until the late 1980s. When created, according to its initiators, had the goal to spread a positive image of the Brazilian worker, contrary to what was published regularly in newspapers. The campaign, sponsored by SESI and the newspaper O Globo, proposed awarding a worker in each state, and then elect a national worker. The research examines how the competition was used by businessmen, through SESI, to propagate the ideals of harmony between the classes, creating a model worker which was in line with the standards of the Brazilian business elite and which had as a goal to discipline through the model, the remaining factories workers.

No. of bitstreams: 1 MicheleSL_DISSERT.pdf: 1237908 bytes, checksum: 9c55cd7416c712a65821441831bac60f (MD5) Previous issue date: 2011-08-30 / This dissertation presents a study on the slave population of Vila do Pr?ncipe, from 1850 to 1888, based on the judicial and notarial collection of hand written documents as well as on the Reports of Presidents of the Province of Rio Grande do Norte. The issue that drives the research relates to the reproduction of slavery in a region of cattle breeding colonization. Therefore, the research aims to understand how in a peripheral socio-economic place (in Vila do Pr?ncipe, cattle breeding Serid?) after the prohibition of the African slave trade, the slave relationships subsisted and structured themselves. In the sense, the research analyzed the dynamics of socio-economic slave units and their relationship with space, ownership structure and the slave family.

It seeks to identify the profile of the slaves and the emancipation possibilities in a peripheral region with few commercial activities, given that the most of the approaches about manumission consider towns and cities where the economic dynamics ware more pronounced, as places of higher possibilities of slaves working in diverse activities that allowed them to accumulate a reserve fund and thus buy their freedom. Therefore it was necessary to raise evidences of slavery in the case study, which was based on surveys of the eighteenth century, and the first decades of the nineteenth century and some population maps and civil records related to the early nineteenth century. The information about the manumission acts were analyzed based on writs of freedom registered in the village of Arez between 1774 and 1827 due to the absence of other documents about it. The registry books include all the documents of the Arez community; so, it was possible to observe what happened in rural localities, in the town, in the headquarters of the district and in the village of Goianinha. Based on information from the documents, it was possible to address some aspects of slavery like the predominant types of groups, the possible activities in which slaves were inserted and the profile of the freed slaves, the emancipation modes and, therefore, discuss the possible relations ship between the colonial space and manumissions and between masters and slaves / Este trabalho aborda aspectos da escravid?o e as alforrias no termo da vila de Arez, entre o ?ltimo quartel do s?culo XVIII e as primeiras d?cadas do s?culo XIX.

This work has as object of study a social practice: modern slavery of workers in the sugar cane, and aims to present a reflection on maintenance, eradication or modification of this practice. This reflection bases itself upon the concepts of discourse advocated by Critical Discourse Analysis (Fairclough, 2001, 2003, 2006 and Chouliaraki; Fairclough, 1999) associated with Sociodiscursive Interactionism (Bronckart, 1999, 2006, 2008), and the concept of action figures, proposed by Bulea (2010). We follow the five steps outlined in Chouliaraki and Fairclough (1999): a) emphasis on a social problem, b) introduction and discussion of obstacles to tackle the problem, c) considerations concern the problem in practice d) identifying possible ways to past the obstacles, and e) reflection about the analyst role within the problem. In order to achieve step (b) in its discourse materiality axis, it has been identified the thematic content, discourse types, enunciative mechanisms and action figures of testimonials of sugar cane workers and other subjects involved with the problem in the documentaries Baga?o (2006, and Tabuleiro de Cana, Xadrez de Cativeiro (2006). These documentaries bring to the screen a little of sugar cane workers reality within an overexploitation, human rights disrespects and forced work. The analysis of textual/discursive aspects of testimonials has shown the ways in which the (de)construction of the representation of sugar cane action allows understanding of how the problem emerges and how it is rooted in the organization of social life. The general result of this reflection point to the internalization of social practices deep-rooted in evaluations of the sugar cane worker subjective world and from social world values, opinions and rules. The results also show that, in their discourse, workers assume their slavery sometimes consciously, sometimes unconsciously, but only suggest a reaction against the oppression imposed on them because they have internalized and naturalized their enslavement.

Through the tensions lived in his novels and short stories, Machado displays Brazilian social reality and the changes it had been undergoing. Mariana and Pai contra m?e show the crisis of the slavery system, the relation of dependency, the treatment given to the captives and the lack of coherence of a country that intended to adopt Liberalism as an ideology, but which kept on living under the shadow of slavery and its consequences. A country where the priorities were given to the landlords, owners of slaves, in protection of their interests. O caso da vara tells about how the crias da casa little black girls who lived in the household and learned how to make spool embroidery were treated. What were the punishments for desobedience and how they were levelled out, how should be the behaviour of a child who lived as a social outcast. Thus, this paper aims at playing a game of mirrors between History and fiction. Not only to play it, but to analyze how Machado deals with the reflections of 19th century Brazil on his short stories / Machado de Assis captou seu tempo e projetou nos textos que escreveu sua percep??o sobre a sociedade brasileira do s?culo XIX e seus m?ltiplos aspectos economia, pol?tica, cultura, dentre outros.

The main scenarios of this social and legal struggle are Crato (Cear?) and Exu (Pernambuco), places where she lived in the 19th century. The main objective of this work is to understand how to set the tensions and alliances involving the struggle for freedom inside and outside justice, in differentiated provincial spaces. An approach that belongs to the field of the social history of slavery, we ll prioritize the narrative of life. In it, Hypolita is taken as the subject of her story, as she faces stately and patriarchal values in a slave society. The documentary corpus that allows such vertical investigative consists of parish registers, we examined the baptisms, marriages and death records; analyzed registry documents of postmortem inventories, petitions and crafts; reports of provincial presidents and, finally, the O Araripe s and O Cearense s journalistic information. The investigation of the case allowed the understanding of how, in space and time specific, freedom was understood, usurped and claimed by various social subjects in the frame of morals and justice institutionalized / Este trabalho analisa a hist?ria de Hypolita Maria das Dores, mulata que nasceu livre, foi escravizada e, por meio de uma a??o de liberdade, recorreu ? justi?a para provar a ilegitimidade de seu cativeiro e recuperar a sua liberdade e de seus filhos.
