Phytoplankton Community and Water Quality, Aquatic Ecosystems in the State of Cearà / Comunidade fitoplanctÃnica e qualidade da Ãgua em ecossistemas aquÃticos do estado do CearÃ

Aldeney Andrade Soares Filho 17 May 2010 (has links)
Water is the most important resource for humans, though it s eems there is no concern of human beings in preserving it, because daily activities increasingly under mine the quality of this resource. This study aimed to analyze the phytoplankton community structure and water quality in aquatic ecosystems of Cearà State (Brazil). Monthly collections were made during the rainy and dry seasons between 2004 and 2007 in the following ecosystems: the CauÃpe, MundaÃ, Cearà and Malcozinhado river estuarie s; the Jijoca, PecÃm, Uruaà and Maraponga lakes; the Ipu and Andreas waterspouts and the Favelas, Corte and Campus do Itaperi dams. The results showed significant changes in phytoplankton community structure, mainly influenced by levels of rainfall. The Bacillariophyceae were predominant in the ecosystems studied, except in the Favelas, Corte and Campus do Itaperi dams, which showed high levels of eutrophication, with dominance of Cyanophyceae, Zygnematophyceae and Chlorophyceae, respectively. Rare species, the great majorit y, formed a group totally isolated from those considered dominant, abundant and little abundant, consisting of a small number of species, confirming the major seasonal influence of the region's on the phytoplankton community. Ecosystems showed great variation in diversity, richness and evenness of species, however, diversity was highest during the rainy season. The following environments were classified according to the concentration of dissolved O 2 and CO2, total ammonia, nitrite, phosphate, as well as on trophic status indices of phosphate and/or water transparency and on the presence of bioindicators: the MundaÃ, CauÃpe and Cearà river estuaries, Maraponga lake and the Favelas, Corte and Campus do Itaperi dams as eutrophic environments; the Malcozinhado river estuary and PecÃm and Uruaà lakes as mesotrophic environments; and Jijoca lake and the Ipu and AndrÃas waterspouts as oligotrophic environment. Several bioindicators of eutrophic and/or polluted waters were recorded, in partic ular the presence of potentially toxic cyanobacteria in various ecosystems, with blooms in the Cearà river estuary and Favelas dam, while significant biomass was not recorded in other environments, even those showing a high trophic status, such as the Campus do Itaperi dam, with a Chlorophyceae bloom, and the Corte dam, with a Zygnematophyceae bloom, showing that the joint analysis of biological and physicochemical parameters of the ecosystem is of paramount importance for an appropriate environmental assessment of the health of aquatic cosystems.

DeterminaÃÃo dos Compostos InorgÃnicos Nitrogenados (AmÃnia, Nitrito e Nitrato) e FÃsforo Total, na Ãgua do AÃude GaviÃo, e sua ContribuiÃÃo para a EutrofizaÃÃo / DETERMINATION OF THE INORGANICS COMPOUNDS OF NITROGENOUS (AMMONIA, NITRITE AND NITRATE) AND TOTAL PHOSPHORUS, IN THE WATER OF RESERVOIR GAVIÃO, AND ITS CONTRIBUTION FOR THE EUTROPHICATION.

Ãrika de Almeida Sampaio Braga 18 August 2006 (has links)
FundaÃÃo Cearense de Apoio ao Desenvolvimento Cientifico e TecnolÃgico / The GaviÃo reservoir is located in the Pacatuba district of Cearà state (Lat:-3,904323ÂS; Long:-38,528984ÂW). The storage capacity of 53hm3, with hydraulic area of drainage basin and hydrographical basin 7 and 97 Km2, respectively. In spite of that GaviÃo reservoir is considered a model of reservoir and to constitute in the last reservoir of the system of the water supply of R.M.F., tends the downstream the Water Treatment Station ETA-GaviÃo, is being impactaded with anthropics activities. In the study was given attention to the inorganic compounds of nitrogenous, such as: ammonia, nitrite and nitrate and the phosphorus total, because them healthy very important nutrients to contributory for eutrophication in the consequence of the anthropics activities. For analyses of these parameters they were following the general guidelines of norms patterns for the methods of rehearsals, with the samples collected monthly, during the period of one year, of January of 2005 to December of 2005 and two periods were considered for the study, the humid period and the dry period. the conclusion with the study was arrived that the parameters concentrations investigate in the periods are more and more elevated, and consequently, degrading the water quality of the reservoir. When establishing the protection areas limits in turn of the sources of surface water, as well as the restrictions on the use of the soils that they accompany them, should feel a special attention to the activity types to be accomplished to amount of the reception area as well as to the quality of the natural water. Therefore, it is done necessary a control of the activities anthropics, through a more rigorous fiscalization, for the contribution of nutrients not to be one more responsible factor for the degradation of the quality of the water of GaviÃo reservoir, since this reservoir is the responsible for the water supply of the Metropolitan Area of Fortaleza.

Biodiversidade e Densidade da Comunidade FitoplanctÃnica em EstuÃrios do Litoral do Cearà (NE Brasil) / Biodiversity and density of phytoplankton in the coastal estuaries of Cearà (NE Brazil)

HortÃncia de Sousa Barroso 25 January 2010 (has links)
This work is a contribution to the knowledge of phytoplankton communities and hence the trophic status of estuaries located on the West Coast of Ceara, NE-Brazil: Sector I (Aracatimirim, and AracatiaÃà MundaÃ) and Section II (Timonha, Ubatuba, Remedies, and Coreaà AcaraÃ) and the Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza (CearÃ, Coco and packages). Samples were taken in sub-surface layer of the water column throughout the rainy season (January to April / 2005) for tidal flooding and / or receding. The sampling stations were distributed along the estuaries in order to characterize their upper portions, intermediate and inferior. The phytoplankton community was composed of 308 taxa belonging to six taxonomic divisions: Cyanophyta (66), Euglenophyta (34), Dinophyta (23), Bacillariophyta (118), Crytophyta (6) and Chlorophyta (56), and unidentified bodies ( 5). The composition in different parts of the estuary was influenced by variations in salinity, there is generally more representative of dinoflagellates in the lower portions; of euglenoids, cyanobacteria, chlorophytes and cryptophytes in the upper portions, and diatoms in all portions. Large areas of coastline were surveyed Squads are different in composition and total phytoplankton densities. We observed a large percentage of exclusive species in each area, showing that they may have differences in the abiotic and biotic conditions, which act jointly selecting the phytoplankton species that best adapt. There was an increasing gradient to the total density: West Coast Sector II <Fortaleza Metropolitan Area <West Coast Sector I. The species reached higher relative abundances in the metropolitan area were Phormidium sp3 and Trichodesmium erythraeum; on the west coast Sector I Planktolyngbya limnetica and Pseudanabaena galeata, while in Section II Heterocapsa sp. Pseudanabaena limnetica and Nitzschia palea. The most frequent species in the whole sample were Cylindrotheca closterium, Nitzschia palea, Navicula Navicula sp1 and SP4. Although species with a preference for eutrophic environments have reached higher densities in estuaries on the West Coast Sector I and the Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza, they were also present in the estuaries of the West Coast Sector II, even with the highest relative abundances of at least one of stations. It stands out among the species with a preference for eutrophic conditions Euglena Limnophila, Ps. limnetica, Pl limnetica, Chroococcus cf. distans and Chroococcus cf. minimus and Nitzschia palea. This demonstrated that all the estuaries, to a lesser or greater degree, are being subjected to impacts of anthropogenic nature (increase in nutrient concentration), and the West Coast Sector II, who demonstrated, on the occasion of sampling, are in the process of less advanced state of eutrophication. The high densities of cyanobacteria in estuaries of the Rivers AracatiaÃÃ, Aracatimirim, Cearà and Coco, represented by species including potentially producing toxins (Pl limnetica, Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii, Anabaenopsis circularis, Geitlerinema Amphibium and T. erythraeum), and dinoflagellates in the package, indicate the urgent need for further research and monitoring to verify the occurrence of harmful algal blooms and toxic in these estuaries. The control of nutrient emission by human activities for them also is urgent.

Estudo da qualidade ambiental do reservatÃrio pentecoste por meio do Ãndice de estado trÃfico modificado / study of environmental quality of reservoir by Pentecost Trophic State Index

Rafael Reis Alencar Oliveira 12 May 2009 (has links)
The growing concern with the maintenance of the environmental quality of water sources in Cearà refers to the intense degradation of reservoir through the eutrophication phenomenon, which results in an accelerated enrichment of nutrients from, particularly, the release of effluents from rural, urban and industrial zones. The fact of water presents as the main factor limiting of development and improvement of welfare of people in Semi- Arid, naturally insufficient in their water availability, marks the importance of the better understanding of this phenomenon in order to keep the possible uses of these water sources, as for any kind of use, there is a standard which should be respect. This study intended to examine the behavior of the indicators of water quality at Pentecoste reservoir, Cearà State, seeking to identify the main changes in their trophic levels using the method of calculating the Trophic State Index Modified. As a perspective of analysis, is used the spatial and temporal variability of limnological information available for the years 2001 to 2008. The result of this analysis showed that the levels of total phosphorus, soluble orthophosphate and chlorophyll a remained high, indicating even the tendency of the weir Pentecoste high eutrophication. The behavior of these indicators was related to hydrological processes of the reservoir, particularly the rainfall regime, with strongly determinate the variability of water quality during the study period, indicating even the years 2004 and 2006 as critical. For the classification of the trophic estate, the use of indicators was well suited because of the good relationship of cause and effect between them, and the nitrogen and phosphorus indicated the total phosphorus as a limiting phytoplankton development in the reservoir. The characterization of the dam on Pentecoste IETM determined the predominance of eutrophic state, with a slight tendency of hypereutrophic, especially in periods of higher rainfall. The relationship of temporal and spatial distribution of rainfall regime with the trend of trophic state showed the impact of the rain water drainage systems as a catalyst in the process of eutrophication, emphasizing, in this sense, that the forms of use and occupancy of the areas surrounding the reservoir may interfere directly in the quality of it. As the spatial dispersion of IETM concludes that there is a trend of deterioration of water quality in the vicinity of dam and the dam and the city of Pentecoste, that pattern changed considerably for the rainy periods. Finally, the study showed that both the frequency and intensity as the sample distribution of collections can directly influence the classification of the trophic state of a water body and the understanding of hydrological processes in this reservoir. / The growing concern with the maintenance of the environmental quality of water sources in Cearà refers to the intense degradation of reservoir through the eutrophication phenomenon, which results in an accelerated enrichment of nutrients from, particularly, the release of effluents from rural, urban and industrial zones. AvaliaÃÃo da qualidade das Ãguas do aÃude Santo AnastÃcio / Evaluation of water quality of Santo AnastÃcio dam

Ana Cristina Bastos de Oliveira 10 May 2013 (has links)
Todos os mÃtodos de anÃlise utilizados foram baseados na 21 ediÃÃo do âStandard methods for the examination of water and waterwaste â APHA-AWWA-WPCFâ. / Brazil has a large quantity of freshwater, but the Northeast Region and state of Cearà suffer scarcity of this resource. In function of this, many rivers were barred to build reservoirs. Within this context, there is the Santo AnastÃcio dam (ASA), the object of this research, located in Fortaleza-CearÃ. ASA is suffering progressive losses in the quality and depth of waters, mainly due to human actions. Thus, this study aimed to diagnose the evolution of this degradation by physical, chemical and biological analysis, as well as to calculate the water quality index (IQA) for ASA, to evaluate eutrophication and siltation levels and to study the spatial and temporal variability of their limnological parameters. All methods used here were based on the 21st edition of Standard methods for the examination of water and waterwaste - APHA-AWWA-WPCF. By the results, it was possible to conclude that some of the analysed parameters, including OD, total phosphorus and BOD, were evaluated against the established standards for freshwater, class 3, by âResoluÃÃo CONAMA nÂ357â, in which ASA was classified according to its predominant uses. This means that this reservoir is unfit for the purposes for which it is currently used. The results indicated a low quality of the waters, according to IQA, which oscillated between good and bad, with deterioration in quality, at the point 1, which is the region of ASA dam near the community that resides in its surroundings. About the level of eutrophication, it was classified as hypertrophic, higher ranking in artificial aging process. Regarding the temporal variation of the parameters, it can be concluded that there was seasonal, with the influence of local climate. This fact was observed by the study of correlations among the climatic factors using Tukeyâs test and ratified by Principal Component Analysis (PCA). In relation to spatial variation, it was not observed in most variables, except the OD, that exhibited heterogeneity at the point 1, according to Tukeyâs test.

Proposta de tecnologia social para reduÃÃo do risco de eutrofizaÃÃo em aÃudes no semiÃrido / Proposed social technology for risk reduction in semiarid eutrophication in dams

Diego Castro Ribeiro 19 April 2013 (has links)
The deficit in the water balance of the Brazilian Semiarid (BS) makes water the dams vulnerable to the increased concentration of dissolved substances, which could limit or even derail its multiple uses. In addition, several human actions increase the risk of eutrophication of these water bodies. One is the intensive aquaculture, which may contribute to the increase of organic matter. For a sustainable aquaculture production, seeks to use technologies that are both agro-ecological and economic solidarity and promote food security. This study aimed to develop a proposal technology financially viable and socially suitable for fish producing without increasing the risk of eutrophication of dams, source of more than 90% of the water consumed in the BS. This technology makes the consortium with macrophytes in small-scale production of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) in ferrocement tanks using recirculated water. The research was conducted in a private rural property, located in Horizonte, CearÃ, Brazil, between November 2012 and February 2013. Three modules were constructed using the technology of cultivation ferrocement and low cost materials for recirculation and aeration of the water. Were evaluated the growth performance with stocking density of 30 fish/mÂ, with three diets: only with commercial feed, with reduced ration in consortium with water hyacinth (Eicchornia crassipes) and with commercial feed and water hyacinth. Was performed financial analysis for the operation of a module simulating a production biannual cultivation of fish with 800 g, were obtained viability indicators, outcome measures and economic sensitivity analysis to changes in prices and market interest. Monitoring of water quality measurements were made in situ and laboratory testing, measuring the main physico-chemical parameters of interest in aquaculture. Were raised the potential characteristics of the system that could take it to the status of social technology as well as its main strengths and weaknesses, and to correlate them with possible environmental damage inherent and comparing them with the impacts of conventional tilapia culture. The module was constructed with two culture tanks ferrocement (creation and filtration), and a water pumping system and other aeration. According to the biometric data, it observed that treatment only with commercial diet is the most suitable, but the water hyacinth are indispensable in the biofilter for maintaining water quality in appropriate conditions. In simulation, the cultivation proved to be feasible (Cost-benefit = 1.84; Point leveling = 31%; Rate of return on capital = 60%) and very stable to changes in prices and market interest (Rate internal return = 101%). Furthermore, this mode of cultivation proved to be very promising as social technology, low risk environment with few resources and used small volume of wastewater generated. Moreover, it represents a source of animal protein and / or low-income families to pay concomitant with preserving the quality of the surface water resources of the BS decreased risk of eutrophication. It can be concluded that it is feasible in tilapia culture tanks ferrocement structure with water recirculation for reuse in construction and easy operation on a small scale. The effective cost of cultivation module (≈ US$ 1.075) is low when considering the benefits of activity for the development of BS, which strengthens aquaculture familiar with sustainable use of natural resources.

FabrÃcia de Melo Bonfim 29 April 2013 (has links)
The Poti river is inserted in the west zone of CrateÃs city, state of CearÃ, being classified as freshwater class 02 by CONAMA (Environmental National Council) resolution 357/2005. In this sense, the aim was to analyze the geoenvironmental characteristics of the area, and the land use and cover, identifying environmental and socioeconomic impacts, with focus in Poti river water quality and groundwater in the urban zone of CrateÃs â CE. Methodology consisted of sampling groundwater and Poti river water during the drought and rainy period of 2011 to 2012 for physicochemical and biological analyses. Results of Poti river water analyses were used for calculating Water Quality Index (WQI) and Trophic State Index (TSI). The matrix elaborated for environmental and socioeconomic impacts identified the main positive and negative impacts. Groundwater results showed only one well of good quality, while water from other wells was brackish, but they can be used as alternative water sources in years of prolonged drought. WQI Poti river was classified as good, but at some points showed regular quality. Shortage of water along the river made the water remained stagnant, presenting brackish water at some points. TSI showed a hipereutrophic state for the river, with massive presence of macrophytes at some points and also cyanobacteria, which might produce toxins harmful to human health. Environmental impact matrix presented planning and management failure. Among negative environmental impacts, it stood out animal presence on river banks, while as positive impact, selective garbage collection appeared as mitigating measure. Therefore, water resource management should consider local peculiarities, giving priority to majors for sustainable development, such as sanitary sewage system expansion, which is fundamental for public health and city urbanization, searching better quality of life for local population.

Qualidade da Ãgua e Comunidade Ãctia do AÃude Marengo (Madalena, CE) durante o perÃodo de estiagem / Water quality and Community of Fishes in Marengo Dam (Madalena, CE) during the drought

Ana Caroline Bento da Silva 04 June 2014 (has links)
In the semiarid region of northeastern Brazil, long scarcity may to cause big changes in limnological variables. Aquatic organisms quickly realize the changes occurring in the environment and they are good tools to understand the preservation of interest area. This research aimed to observe the impacts about the water quality and ichthyofauna of the Marengo reservoir (localized in the Assentamento SÃo Joaquim, Madalena, CearÃ) due long scarcity. They were performed seven monthly collections (March to September of 2013) to evaluate the volume of water accumulated, the waterâs trophic status and local ichthyofauna. The limnological variables analyzed were the Secchi transparency (euphotic zone), dissolved oxygen, temperature, pH, electrical conductivity, total phosphorus, chlorophyll a, Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and total nitrogen. The trophic status was estimated by the Lamparelli (2004) equations. The local ichthyofauna was analyzed by ecological indexes (Shannonâs diversity, Margalefâs richness and Pielouâs eveness). The results showed a significant reduction of 1,60 hm3 in the volume of water of Marengo reservoir, due to absence of rains and high rate of evaporation and population demand. The chlorophyll a and total phosphorus showed values above the maximum limit set by CONAMA Resolution 357/2005. The trophic status by Lamparelli (2004) indicated the reservoir can be eutrophic in all collections points, reaching hypereutrophic level. They were collected 1.129 fishes belong to 12 different species. The eveness showed high abundance of small fishes (A. bimaculatus, C. orientale and S. notonota) in the point 3, due to morphological aspect, giving refuge possibilities. The point 1 was characterized as the most diverse, richest and largest values of eveness, due to high movement of people and animals. The prolonged drought caused reduction of level of water in the Marengo reservoir and it provided high concentration of nutrients in the water column, reaching the highest trophic level (hypereutrophic). Due to poor water quality, the ichthyofauna will may enter into ecological imbalance and reach high rates of mortality for several species, similar to what occurred in Paus Branco reservoir (Madalena, CearÃ).

KÃssia Crislayne Duarte Ferreira 28 August 2014 (has links)
Oros reservoir is the second largest in the state of Cearà and is used for human supply for the population of the Lower and Middle Jaguaribe and the Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza, besides being used for food production, aquaculture, tourism and irrigated fields. Due to the importance of this reservoir in the context of management of water resources in the state, this work aims to investigate the water quality of the reservoir to adapt an water quality index to the physical, chemical and biological conditions of the reservoir, and calculate the intake and balance of nutrients in its waters. The total period of study comprehended the months from April 2008 to December 2012, where water sampling were performed in a total of nine points in the reservoir, for monitoring of attributes pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand, total phosphorus , nitrate, total suspended solids, turbidity and fecal coliform, to adapt the quality index, using principal component analysis; and seven points with monitoring of the concentrations of total nitrogen and total phosphorus to calculate balance and nutrient input. When obtaining adapted water quality index, it was concluded that the reservoir has water classified as regular to good quality and there is no effect of seasonality on water quality. With respect to intake and nutrient balance, the reservoir is storing the nutrients nitrogen (176 tonnes during the study period) and phosphorus (230 tonnes). Moreover, we could infer the same trend of intake of nutrients in the reservoir for both nutrientes and there was increase in the intake over time.

Dupla FiltraÃÃo Utilizando Filtro de PressÃo à Montante de Filtro Ascendente em Manaciais Eutrofizados / Double Filtration Using Pressure Filter Upstream Of The Rising Filter In Eutrophic Body Os Water

Josà Airton Pereira Lima 17 June 2011 (has links)
The process of treatment by direct filtration is often selected to treat water with reasonable quality (low to medium levels of color, turbidity and algae). In this process, the changes - particularly with regard to algae blooms - cause overload problems in the filters, since the particulate fraction must be removed at the filter media. It was identified therefore the need to seek alternative solutions to alleviate the burden of rapid filters. Several water supply systems operated by the Water and Sewerage Company of Cearà - CAGECE adopt the Ascending Direct Filtration (ADF) as treatment technology, a solution which at the time of its implementation was compatible with the characteristics of the raw water. Currently, due to eutrophication of water sources and the resulting blooms of many kinds of algae, systems work critically overloading filters and causing large water loss (the need for constant filters back washing) to meet quality standards set by legislation. The deployment of a unit placed before the existing filters to condition the raw water to the existing treatment stumbles on anoperational problem since much of the available studies adopts upflowfollowed by dowflowfilters which in the hydraulic point of view precludes the use of the existing structures. The unit of pre-treatment installed allowed the suitability of raw water with high presence of algae to the limitations of direct upflow filtration system, improving the quality of the water produced and reducing losses of treated water by the wash procedures. The pressure filter PFP1 (bed with Te = 2.4 and Cd = 1.2) operating at a filtration rate of 400 m3/m2.day showed a removal of 50% of apparent color and 65% of turbidity with a head loss remaining below 1 m.w.c. and a mean filtration runof 2.5 hours. The system of filters showedwater losses of 6.2%, smallerwhen compared to the upflow filter operating allone (16.2%)
