Evaluation of a Supplemental Kinesthetic-Based Reading Program for Disabled Students

Hodges, Kenneth W. 01 January 2015 (has links)
This research study addressed the need for an evaluation of the effectiveness of teacher-written supplemental reading lesson plans for elementary students with significant disabilities. The participating elementary school implemented the supplemental kinesthetic-based reading program in the 2010â??2011 school year in order to improve the reading test scores of these disabled students. The theories of Howard Gardner's multiple intelligences and Maria Montessori's individualized learning process guided this research. The research question focused on exploring the effectiveness of the lesson plans. Participants included 6 students and their parents, 3 teachers, and 1 principal. Closed- and open-ended survey responses were collected from each participant, and 3 classroom observations were completed. Through descriptive analysis of student assessment scores and closed-ended stakeholder survey questions, and inductive analysis of an open-ended stakeholder questionnaire and classroom observations, these themes emerged: (a) positive effects on lessons, (b) opportunities for refining the collaborative process, and (c) negative effects of collaboration. After further analysis and review of related literature, the program evaluation recommendations of this study included: (a) improving the content of each lesson through the use of lesson study and (b) developing long-term professional development in which teams of teachers collaboratively plan, research, and study their lesson delivery as a way to determine how students learn best. The evaluation and recommendations emerging from this study could lead to positive social change by emphasizing that it is vital for teachers of exceptional students to tailor their instructional delivery strategies to meet the specific reading instructional needs of children with significant disabilities.

Especially in the case of systems which require a high level of reliability is important to define specific design rules for exceptional behavior. Such rules describe how exceptions should flow through the system by defining what elements are responsible for catching exceptions thrown by other system elements. However, current approaches to automatically check design rules do not provide suitable mechanisms to define and verify design rules related to the exception handling policy of applications. This paper proposes a practical approach to preserve the exceptional behavior of an application or family of applications, based on the definition and runtime automatic checking of design rules for exception handling of systems developed in Java or AspectJ. To support this approach was developed, in the context of this work, a tool called VITTAE (Verification and Information Tool to Analyze Exceptions) that extends the JUnit framework and allows automating test activities to exceptional design rules. We conducted a case study with the primary objective of evaluating the effectiveness of the proposed approach on a software product line. Besides this, an experiment was conducted that aimed to realize a comparative analysis between the proposed approach and an approach based on a tool called JUnitE, which also proposes to test the exception handling code using JUnit tests.

The present work circumscribes on the realization of the fundamental right to health by the Brazilian State, through the provision of exceptional medicines, which is characterized by their high costs. The objective is to carry out an investigation into the criteria that legitimize the legal concession of medicines not provided by the Exceptional Dispensation Policy, elaborated by the Ministry of Health. Thus, from the contextualization of pharmaceutical assistance as a relevant measure of health action, as well, based on an analysis of the normative force of the constitutional precepts and the right of access to justice, attempts to demonstrate that the Judiciary is authorized to assess the individual demands and, depending on the peculiarities of each case, to impute to the entities of the Federation the obligation to provide an exceptional remedy if it is proven that it is essential to guarantee the dignity of the human being. For this purpose, it will be highlighted the inadequacy of the use of reserve theory of what is possible in Brazil, as well the need to overcome various theoretical arguments that, in practice, end up making the concreteness of fundamental rights impractical and making it difficult to meet social needs.

Operating procedure of worker in crisis management center in case of an extraordinary event in He administrative division of extended reference township Prachatice.

PŮBAL, Přemysl January 2014 (has links)
Security of citizens is one of the fundamental responsibilities of the state. Therefore, the crisis management system in the Czech Republic is one of the forms of the population protection guaranteed by the state. During its creation and operation cooperate appropriate bodies of the public administration, as well as legal and natural persons. In this thesis the readiness of smaller administrative units is assessed, such as municipality type I. (a municipality), municipality type II. (a municipality with authorized authority ) and especially municipality type III. (a municipality with extended scope). Despite the fact that the crisis management system in the Czech Republic is constantly evolving and is also supported by the legislative side, it is largely neglected at lower levels. Activities in this area are in many cases either postponed or in worse cases considered completely useless and their implementation will not take place. In relation with the exceptional situations the municipal authorities were entrusted with certain powers to deal with such situations. But on the other hand, different levels of municipalities are not distinguished in the cases of dealing with crisis situations. Problems arise in the areas of expertise, material and human resources, especially when the municipalities type I. do not have such resources to be capable of adequately respond in the event of a crisis situation. After all, there are better conditions in municipalities with extended scope, which are able, also due to the larger budgets within its administrative area, to ensure better crisis preparedness of municipality to an exceptional or crisis situation and its subsequent solutions associated with minimizing damages and eliminate the consequences of the action of an exceptional or crisis situation. The main objective of this thesis is to characterize the crisis management system in the Czech Republic. With the help of legislation and professional literature the theoretical part is focused on the explanation of basic terms, such as crisis management, a system of integrated rescue system, emergency and crisis planning, characteristics of the exceptional and crisis situation or crisis management authorities. Furthermore, the thesis is focused on the field of crisis management at the level of municipalities with extended scope, which describes both the scope and the various municipal bodies. It addresses the individual procedures of primarily smaller local government units in the prevention of municipality preparation for exceptional situations, participation of municipality on rescue and relief works and operations implemented in connection with the population protection. At last, the theoretical part contains the financial security operations related to the preparation of exceptional or crisis situations and to the rescue and relief work implementation. To meet the objectives of the thesis were established two research questions that address both the preparedness of humanitarian worker, as well as the possibility of drafting a proposal for a methodological procedure in dealing with crisis situation.

Thinking about it, this research was carried out to understand the organization and operation of Special Education in Porto Ferreira, Brazil. The authors substantiate this research work in a critical perspective (Saviani, Januzzi, Ferraro, Gatti). Methodology used in document analysis of all documents relating to special education in the municipality (laws, decrees, minutes of meetings, newspaper accounts municipal, school census data), as well as the use of interviewing people related to special education. The results point towards: a) the importance of the private institution, the philanthropic (Association of Parents and Friends of Handicapped-APAE) has since its inception until the present day, b) the absence of a project political intended for students with disabilities in primary schools in the municipality, c) the "absence" of a social movement of persons with disabilities in the county searched.

Rizika a hrozby dopravy a skladování nebezpečných látek / Hazards and threats of transportation and storage of dangerous substances

ZELENÝ, Roman January 2008 (has links)
Our company uses more and more chemical substances. A lot of dangerous chemical substances and formulation, that are used by construction, or they are commonly used as products for our consumption, must be also stocked and must be transported into stock, factories and operation. Averages related to escape of dangerous substances represent huge hazards, that may threaten health and lifes of people, their property, or they can have negative impact on environment. I will adduce amount of stocked dangerous substances in Central Bohemia //Středočeský kraj// per year 2007 as a proof of a huge amount of injurants around us. In this work I will make analysis of the most often stocked and transported chemical substances (amonia, chlorine, hydrogen cyanide). I want to clarify hazards and mainly possible after-effects on health of citizens and on environment, that could start in case of averages with this substances. I will make an analysis of accessible sources (print news, evaluating reports, process case researches, possibilities of resolution of exceptional events, relief and account//liquidation// work) and I will compare them with processed accident and crisis documentation. In this work I would like to emphasize mainly reactions on possible average. I will create model situations with escape of dangerous substances through transportation and through stocking with possible reactions on them. I will use software tool Terex for their evaluation. I will appoint immediate acquisition //arrangements//, relief and account work on a basis of these model situations that must be carried out immediately after escape of dangerous substances and also following acquisition, either short time or long time. At the same time I will suggest preventive acquisition to lower the probability of rise of exceptional events with escape of dangerous substances.

Prekursory fázových přechodů v kvantových systémech / Precursors of phase transitions in quantum systems

Dvořák, Martin January 2015 (has links)
In this diploma thesis precursors of quantum phase transitions in finite many-body systems are studied. The main attention is paid to the mechanism, how nonanalytic behaviour of the ground state is generated for certain critical values of real control parameters. It is shown that nonanalytic behaviour of energy levels and eigenstates is closely connected with exceptional points of the hamiltonian, which are points in control parameter space extended into a complex domain where at least two eigenvalues and corresponding eigenvectors coincide. Differences in the distribution of exceptional points in the complex plane of control parameter for the first and second order phase transitions and also evolutions of the position of exceptional points with increasing particle number are discussed.

Approche psychodynamique et cognitive des expériences exceptionnelles / Psychodynamic and cognitive approach of exceptional experiences

Rabeyron, Thomas 02 December 2010 (has links)
This dissertation, conducted in co-direction with Edinburgh University, proposes a psychodynamic and cognitive approach towards exceptional experiences or subjective “paranormal” experiences. The main objective is to understand the conditions of emergence of these original clinical experiences, and to determine the psychological processes that underlie them. After a historical and epistemological review of work on these experiences, analysing in particular the writings of Freud and Ferenczi, we determine the main characteristics by relying on a literature review from psychoanalytical psychology and cognitive psychology. Then, due to quantitative research carried out at Edinburgh University, including a questionnaire and an experimental task used during two successive studies (n=162), we show the importance of traumas, psychological permeability and negative life events in people who report exceptional experiences. We then propose five theoretical and clinical hypotheses, from 55 clinical cases obtained mainly through a counselling service dedicated to people reporting exceptional experiences, which was set up for this PhD. The analyses developed in this work propose an “integrative and clinical model of exceptional experiences”. This model first sheds light on the fact that these unusual experiences could be considered as a specific form of reaction to negative life events, as a “paranormal solution” that occurs, in a number of cases, after an “inaugural paranormal experience”. This solution, which finds its roots in certain early relationships and different traumas from childhood, could lead to a strong psychological permeability. This permeability would favour the emergence of exceptional experiences during adulthood in different forms of unconscious psychological transmissions. These experiences could also correspond to the “breaking” of the containing hallucinatory field, with the influence of different altered states of consciousness, and more precisely hypnotic states. Finally, these experiences could be considered as the resurgence of a “primary communication” that would implicate characteristics of primary symbolisation and would question more generally their potentially positive aspect and the nature of the interactions they imply.
