Educação, ciência e saúde no museu: uma análise enunciativo-discursiva da exposição do Museu de Microbiologia do Instituto Butantan / Education, Science and Health at the Museum: an enunciative-discursive analysis of the exhibition at the Museum of Microbiology, Instituto Butantan

Carla Gruzman 25 September 2012 (has links)
The objective of this research is to understand and analyze the authorship constitution movements of professionals who play the role of designers in the production process of the expository discourse in science museums. We believe that the exhibition discourse concerns not only the knowledge of the subjects involved in the design and in the development of the exhibitions, but also refers to the production conditions that characterize the process as a whole, as well as to the meanings attributed during the materialization of this discourse. The methodological approach used the framework of qualitative research in education, and focused on the long-term exhibition at the Museum of Microbiology of the Instituto Butantan (SP). The theoretical approach is based on the assumptions of socio-historical approach to the study of language of Mikhail Bakhtin and his Circle, which shows dialogical characteristics in different textual media and results as a concrete event related to the conditions that circumscribe the lives of individuals and the positions assumed by them. For this analysis we used the contributions that help addressing the principle of authorship in the discursive production, such as dialogism, statement, social horizons, otherness, voices and the concept of gender. The research was based on two complementary and articulated steps that integrate the methodological procedures. On the first step we invested in the study of exhibitions in science museums as a sphere of activity in which the object of our research emerges, where discussions on the concepts of education and communication were used in this particular unit. The second stage sought to focus the enunciative-discursive dimension of discursive productions of professionals participating in the design and development of the long-term exhibition of the Museum of Microbiology. From this study, in which a brief historical background and the emerging context of the Museum of Microbiology at the Butantan Institute were established, the long-term exhibition at the Museum was described and aspects of its constitutional process, such as the counter words present in the design of the exhibition, the compositional structure with emphasis on the texts and objects and the presence of the other in the production of expository discourse were analyzed. The results show that there are specificities in the authorship constitution movements of this discursive event, which makes it unique in the way that it expresses the relationship between social conditions of production, knowledge, the senses attributed by designers and their interlocutors. A noticeable aspect relates to how the space and time dimension is incorporated into the exhibition discourse and determines the attributes and meanings expressed in the text and objects. Another aspect relates to the voices which characterize the discourses of different social spheres (scientific, educational, aesthetic, spatial, among others) and that afford a glimpse through marks that are expressed in the exhibition discourse. Based on the analysis performed it is believed that exhibitions in science museums could be considered a kind of discourse, hybrid in nature in terms of enunciative-discursive.

Mapping the complexity of art exhibition: is it possible to evaluate it?

Luciana Benetti Marques Valio 28 February 2008 (has links)
This research is an exploratory investigation of the evaluation practices applied to art exhibition. To do so, the study intends to contextualize art exhibition, considering the changes in art during the last four decades. It presents contemporary art as a system, showing the inter-relation among its elements. These elements were divided into chapters, in Part I, to describe each one, and, where possible, to confront one with the other: the loss of authority by the artist, who shares the authority with the spectator; the work of art is completed with the spectators participation; the spectator abandons a passive attitude and gets involved, participating and being part of the art work; the art market is a circulation agent of the art work, the art market makes it possible the confront the art work and the system dynamics; the art institutions becomes a space for interventions, part of the artistic manifestations; art criticism joins art practice assuming the production risks, while art history is kept in check and the art theory is claimed by the artists; the mediation between artwork and spectator is done by the curator, who works side-by-side with the artists practice and the educator, who facilitates the moment of aesthetic experience; at last, the exhibition is the synthesis of all these elements above, showing the interaction among the elements of the system at the exhibition space. Therefore, the complexity of the context where the exhibition is shown becomes emphasized, presenting the exhibition as a process, as a reflex of an unstable contemporaneity. The exhibition synthesizes the interaction among the elements of the system to constitute itself, turning into an expanding reflection about the context of contemporary art, in which the exhibition evaluation is part. The evaluation performed in the exhibition spaces focuses on the analysis of the public to improve the quality of the visit in the museum. A parallel analysis of social project evaluations makes it possible to build a broader view of how this management tool is used. Finally, the view of the art exhibition context is expanded; proposing a more critical attitude towards this context, showing that the evaluation of an exhibition is part of a larger complexity, which is the art system itself to which it belongs.

Od veřejného muzea umění k malé nekomerční galerii / From the public art museum to a small non-commercial gallery

Kučera, Jakub January 2017 (has links)
This diploma thesis focuses on the topic of the gradual development of European art exhibition institutions whose modern stage dates to the early 19th Century and continues to the present. The characterization of the beginning of this modern phase is generally associated with the commencement of establishing first public art museums. The thesis will outset from this period in art history and focus on the linear evolution of art exhibition institutions to its present form. The thesis comments on an institutional change of exhibition space which is not perceived as a separate and socially independent process. On the contrary the work puts this gradual transformation into social, political and cultural contexts. Through the topic of modern institutional criticism the thesis moves to address contemporary European trends which severely affect the very specific environment of Czech exhibition institutions. The primary institutional structure, which was formed by the public demand and national unification, is here put into context of the current Czech situation which in response to the current official art institutions reacts by establishing small galleries which operate on a community basis.

"Smell the horse, dad" : A qualitative case study on using scents as a sensory tool to bridge historical information through embodied storytelling within a museum / "Lukta på hästen, pappa" : En kvalitativ fallstudie om användning av dofter som ett sensoriskt verktyg för att överbrygga historisk information genom embodied storytelling inom ett museum

Andersson, Jessica January 2023 (has links)
The thesis was conducted as the master thesis for a Master's in innovation and design. The aim of this thesis was to investigate in what ways scent can be used as an olfactory stimulation within exhibitions and to access the possible effects that occur from bridging historical contexts with scent within the exhibitions – as a tool for embodied storytelling. The olfactory study focuses on Leksmedjan Smetuna in Rademachersmedjorna, Eskilstuna. The thesis theoretical framework presents theories on sense of smell, museum experiences, storytelling, and embodied storytelling. A space analysis and a qualitative interview with a museum pedagogue at Västermanland´s county museum. An observational smellscape with different scented elements is conducted as well, with visiting children at Leksmedjan Smetuna in Rademachersmedjorna – where children get the chance to experience historical scents from the 17th century, through their sense of smell. This with the aim to visualize the physical-, emotional- and social effects that occur during children´s sensory museum experiences. The scented elements for the observational smellscapes were designed and produced during the thesis design process and are based on theoretical and empirical data collection. The results of the thesis bring forth important perspectives regarding children´s sensory museum experiences that incorporate scented elements.

Meninės juvelyrikos eksponavimo praktikos XX a. pab. – XXI a. pr / Display Methods of Art Jewellery from the End of 20th to the Beginning of the 21st Centuries

Zymonaitė, Justina 03 July 2014 (has links)
[toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Contemporary jewellery cannot be dissociated from developments in the fine art. In the second part of the 20th century jewellery started to be considered as an art form which can express the individuality of an artist. During that time the first specialized jewellery exhibitions were held and since then the attention was drawn to the importance of how objects are displayed in the exhibition. What makes exhibiting jewellery difficult is its connection to the body - wearability is the essence of it. In addition, usually jewellery is small scale and made of precious materials. As a result, typical showcases made of glass are no longer satisfying for displaying art jewellery. The aim of this research is to analyze possible strategies of how art jewellery can be presented. The examples of temporary jewellery exhibitions, both personal and group, from Lithuania and abroad from the 1970s to the present are included. The research is not historical and based on chronology, jewellery exhibitions are not seen as a continuous phenomenon with clear evolution. Temporary exhibitions offer a possibility of to putting into practice such display solutions which would not be suitable for permanent museum displays. This paper looks into the questions such as what kind of different display strategies are used to exhibit jewellery, how the display affects the perception of the artworks, what the relation between the viewer and the jewellery work in the exhibition is, how display influences this... The Cube^3: Three Case Studies of Contemporary Art vs. the White Cube

Chawaga, Mary 01 January 2017 (has links)
Museums are culturally constructed as places dedicated to tastemaking, preservation, historical record, and curation. Yet the contemporary isn’t yet absorbed by history, so as museums incorporate contemporary art these commonly accepted functions are disrupted. Through case studies, this thesis examines the successes and failures of three New York museums (MoMA, Dia:Beacon and New Museum) as they grapple with the challenging, perhaps irresolvable, tension between the contemporary and the very idea of the museum.
