Geotermisk förvärmning av ventilationsluft : En utvärdering av ventilationssystemets energieffektivitet / Evaluation of the energy efficiency of preheating ventilation air with geothermal heat

Sundin, Malin January 2018 (has links)
This master thesis examines the energy efficiency of preheating outdoor air in ventilation systems by using geothermal heat from boreholes. Energy efficiency in this context only relates to minimise the energy consumption and to minimise the peak power consumption during cold days. Preheating the outdoor air before it enters the heat exchanger is a techinque that is used to avoid frost formation in the heat exhanger. The aim of preheating the outdoor air is to reduce the energy consumption in the buidling and to reduce the peak power consumption during cold days. In this project a buliding in Töfsingdalen, Stockholm, is investigated. In one part of the building the outdoor air is preheated while the air in another part of the building is not. The investigation is partly based on an analysis of measured temperaures in the building’s ventilation system during 2017. The results of the analysis show that the heat exchanger in the air-handling unit with preheating has not been defrosted during the investigated period. In this thesis, models are also constructed to simulate the system. The models are created in the simulation programme IDA ICE, wich is a simulation tool for bulidings. The simulations show that the total energy consumption is 1.2 kWh/m2Atemp, year higher and the maximal power consumption is 18 kW lower for the system that preheats the outdoor air compared to the system without preheating. In addition to this, the conclusion of this report is that the energy efficiency of preheating the outdoor air depends on the type of heat exchanger. A heat exchanger with high efficiency results in a lower peak power consumption than a heat exchanger wth a lower efficiency. Futhermore, the results show that geothermal preheating is better from an energy perspective when heat exchangers with moderate as opposed to high efficiencies are used. The energy efficiency of preheating outdoor air in ventilation systems also depends on the outdoor climate and the control strategy of the preheating. In this report, the control strategy for the preheating system in Töfsingdalen has been optimised in order to reduce the energy consumption in the building.

Nöjd, Marica, Olsson, Helena January 2015 (has links)
Background Inadvertent hypothermia in patients during surgery is very common. The perioperative team has an important role to use the knowledge and the equipment available to prevent hypothermia. The aim of the study was to illustrate aspects that can affect efforts to prevent hypothermia during surgery, based on operating theatre and anesthesia nurses' experiences. Method Interviews with four operating theatre nurses and four nurse anesthetists were analyzed to illustrate aspects of hypothermia in patients during surgery. A qualitative approach was chosen with a content analysis. Results The result showed six categories: Communicating for a good environment for everyone, Prioritizing actions, The importance of respect and communication for cooperation, Knowledge and awareness, Routines, guidelines and checklists and New work culture. These categories showed that knowledge of hypothermia exists but often it depends on the cooperation within the perioperative team whether an action is done or not. All categories relate to different aspects of working in teams. Throughout all categories Working together in a team emerges as a theme. Conclusion The result showed that the culture in a team, can be both a strength and a weakness for working with prevention of hypothermia. It requires action for improved teamwork for example through a change in the work culture.

Tillvaratagande av spillvärme i fjärrkylereturen : Energieffektivisering av Ulls Hus / Utilizing waste heat from the district cooling return

Hasth, Amanda, Modée, Amelia January 2020 (has links)
The Earth’s climate is getting warmer. Combustion of carbon dioxide is one of themain causes and results in increased levels of greenhouse gases that Earth’s vegetation is unable to carry, which ends up outside Earth’s natural cycle. In order to achieve an ecological sustainability, Sweden and EU has set climate and energy targets for 2020 and 2030, to encourage energy efficiency, energy savings and development of new and renewable energy sources. Akademiska Hus, is one of Sweden's largest property companies and their goal is to reduce the amount of purchased energy by 50% until 2025. This study was made in cooperation with Akademiska Hus and aims to investigate the possibilities of utilising waste heat from the district cooling return for Ulls Husby implementing a heat exchanger which preheats the supply air in the ventilation system for the building. The goal is to examine if the solution is realizable and profitable, and to create a basis for future implementation of heat recovery in several of Akademiska Hus's properties. Calculations regarding power and energy demands are carried out for the current ventilation system without preheating and with an implemented preheating. Seven different test scenarios were investigated to determine when the conditions are favorable for preheating. The payback method is applied to investigate if the implementation is economically profitable. The results show that the purchased energy can be decreased by 1332 kWh for Ulls Hus by preheating the air during the investigated period between 15th October 2018 and 14th April 2019. Preheating decreases the number of power peaks higher than 25 kW in the ventilation system from 160 to 5 peaks. The reduction in energy and power demand is not considered economically profitable with a payback time of 309 years. Optimizing the operation strategy for the ventilation system to eliminate the power demand that occurs during the daily start of the system can decrease the purchased energy without preheating by 1 486 kWh, which correspond to 66%.With preheating the reduction can be additional 816 kWh to the results of preheating. This, as a suggestion, can be done by commissioning the heatexchanger before the rest of the ventilation system starts. The results for the four of the seven test scenarios that including lower temperature efficiency and 24-hour operation, alone or combined with each other and with a regulated supply air, show a larger reduction of purchased energy andthat an implementation can be considered economically profitable with shorter payback times. The four scenarios show a reduction with 62 630 kWh to 122 160 kW hand a pay back time half as short as the technical life expectancy which is considered economically profitable.

Energieffektivisering genom förvärmning av flis till kokare med sekundärvärme / Energy efficiency improvement by pre heating of woodchips to kraft digester with secondary heat

Ivarsson, Magnus January 2012 (has links)
The Swedish pulp and paper industry meets higher demand for energy efficiencyi mprovements with increasing energy prices and changes in the Swedish renewable energy certificate system. One action of energy efficiency improvement is by using secondary heat, that otherwise would have been treated as waste heat, for use in a system with lower temperature demands. The aim of this Master´s thesis is to identify possible secondary heat sources in a typical Swedish pulp and paper mill and to investigate what economic benefits the secondary heat will provide when being used for pre heating of wood chips to a kraft digester. The Master´s thesis focuses on three secondary heat sources; dry warm air, warm water and moisture saturated warm air located inside the pulp or paper mill. Two types of kraft digesters are simulated within this study, a typical Scandinavian digester and a modern twin vessel steam phase digester. Due to quality aspects and low temperature level drying is the drying technology with dry warm air rejected. Using warm water in direct contact with wood chips increases the quantity of water to the evaporation plant and thus reduced pulp or paper production and is therefore also rejected. The thesis nevertheless indicates a goodopportunity for further investigation of using moisture saturated warm air for preheating of wood chips. The humid air, from a drying machine or produced from secondary heat warm water, is used in a theoretical modified belt drier. Conservative assumptions regarding heat transfer and investment cost calculations yield a yearly net saving for a typical Swedish pulp mill at over 5 MSEK with a return on investment at 7years.

En utvärdering av metoder för att bestämma den förhöjda arbetstemperaturen vid svetsning av S355J2 / An evaluation of methods for predicting preheat temperature when welding S355J2

Nöbauer, Henrik January 2015 (has links)
One of the most common causes of failure in welded carbon steel constructions can be traced to small cracks that occur in the weld metal or in the area of the base metal that has been affected structurally by the energy from the welding process, also known as HAZ. These cracks can occur hours or days after the welding is completed and do so due to a combination of hydrogen that has penetrated the metal during the weld process, a hard and brittle microstructure and tensile stresses acting on the weld. A method to avoid these cracks is to preheat the material before welding. The increased temperature results in a slower cooling which reduces the risk of a martensitic microstructure and allow hydrogen to diffuse out of the most critical zones of the welded joint. There are many different methods for calculating the preheat temperature needed to counter these cracks. Most of them are solved graphically but attempts have been made to translate them into mathematical algorithms to facilitate calculations. The outcome of the methods may vary and different methods can be considered to be best applied to various steel. The purpose of this study is to investigate which method is best suited to determine the preheat temperature to eliminate the risk of hydrogen cracking for the structural steel S355J2. The methods used in this study was the mathematical CET, the graphic CEIIW and CEN and mathematical interpretations of the latter two. The evaluation was made by welding samples of plates with a thickness of 30 mm and with an incrementally increased preheat temperature. These samples were then subjected to both non-destructive and destructive testing to examine how prone they were to crack. An analysis of the weld microstructure was also conducted to identify the most critical zones. It turned out that the mathematical interpretations of the graphic methods differed so much from their graphical equivalent that they can not be recommended for use. It was also found that none of the original methods can be said to be best suited for S355J2 but the choice depended entirely on the heat input. For a heat input over 1.6 kJ/mm it is recommended to use the CET-method which estimated a temperature that gave good material parameters. For a heat input below 0.9 kJ/mm no method calculates a sufficiently high temperature, but the CEIIW-method is calculating the highest temperature and is therefore recommended for use. However, one should keep in mind that it was not sufficient and should therefore be seen as a conservative recommendation. No samples were welded between 0.9 kJ/mm and 1.6 kJ/mm but the recommendation is to use the CET- method because it is simple and calculates the maximum temperature. It was also found that the coarse grain zone was the area where hydrogen cracking is most likely to occur.

Moderna alternativ för skänkvärmning inom gjuteribranschen / Modern alternatives for ladle preheating in foundries

Nyberg, Erik, Ahlstrand, Linus January 2020 (has links)
Due to the consequences of global warming the industries of the world are facing new challenges. Johnson Metall AB is continuously working with ways to reduce their environmental footprint. Johnson Metall AB has identified use of liquid petroleum gas (LPG) as a source where great environmental gains can be made. The thesis limits itself to only look at LPG use in ladle preheating. The purpose of the thesis is to investigate 3-5 alternative ladle preheating technologies instead of the current LPG preheating of ladles. It is important that an alternative solution keeps the current quality of the products and contributes to lower emissions, it is also important that the price of the products doesn’t increase too much. In order to investigate available options the following methods have been used: literature study, double diamond, current situation analysis, comparison method, and the criterion weight method. In order to create a picture of the heating of ladles, an evaluation measure is performed and compared with theoretical concepts. Climate friendly alternatives are present on the market and are continuously improving, however the incentives to invest in new technologies are few. From the industries perspective the available options are expensive and relatively untested. Fuels that are viable options are taken from consideration due to hard competition with other markets. Moving to alternative fuels is a risky business with few guarantees for the foundry industries. The alternative with the biggest potential is an electric solution. Changes in the facility will not result in any major interference in production. The consequences of changing ladle preheating technology will probably be an increase in the price of the products, however the product will be more environmentally friendly.

Berg, Hanna, Svanström, Anna January 2018 (has links)
Sökningar genomfördes i CINAHL, PubMed och Web of Science. / Background: Hypothermia means a core temperature below 36 ° C and is a common complication during the perioperative process. In the event of anesthesia, the body's normal physiological temperature control is disturbed. Hypothermia can lead to a number of serious complications that can cause a patient suffering and an increased cost for society. Although research has long shown that preventive efforts reduce the risk of hypothermia, the problem persists. Aim: The aim is to identify preoperative active heat-saving methods and the effect they have on reducing the risk of perioperative hypothermia in the adult patient. Method: A systematic literature study was chosen as a method of answering the purpose. Searches were conducted in CINAHL, PubMed and Web of Science. A total of 19 quantitative scientific articles were included and data extracted by an extraction template. Result: The result is summarized in two main categories, preoperative active heat-saving methods and the effect of preoperative active warming at the patient's perioperative temperature. Five different heat-saving methods were identified. The result shows that preoperative active heat methods have a positive effect on reducing the appearance of hypothermia during the perioperative process. Conclusion: Perioperative hypothermia can be prevented through increased awareness of healthcare professionals around the problem and through active heat-saving methods during the perioperative process.

Construction and Evaluation of a Numerical Model for Heat Transfer in a Ladle During Pre-heating : A Finite Volume Approach to the Diffusion Equation using Julia

Bjurstam, Gustaf January 2023 (has links)
Heat transfer is key to understanding many processes in engineering. At a steel mill heat transfer is absolutely crucial to understanding most of the processes. One such a process is the pre-heating of a freshly relined ladle. The goal of this project was to develop code which could solve the diffusion equation, in an arbitrary three-dimensional geometry, subject to Dirichlet, Robin, Neumann, and certain kinds of non-linear boundary conditions. In order to approximate the solution the code uses a cell centred finite volume methodology. In order to verify the computational correctness of the code it was used on three simple cases where analytic solutions are known, a rarity for three-dimensional boundary value problems. A mathematical model for the heat conduction inside a ladle at Ovako’s site in Hofors was developed. The model was evaluated based on measurements on the outside of the ladle as well as from a temperature probe inside the bottom of the ladle. The model was found to adequately agree with the measured temperature. The code can thus be used to find a more optimal heating regiment of the ladle, possibly reducing emissions.
