Wrobleski, Renata Biagioni 15 March 2013 (has links)
This dissertation presents a reflection on the word on posters and actions of the Collective Fierce Pussy, questioning the normative, parodying it before the observer, in an escape from crystallized notions of sexuality and identification processes. All of the works were produced in New York City (USA) between 1991-1995 and 2009-2012. Based on the analysis, it is proposed a classification of posters and actions under four themes: word-agit, word-appropriation, word -game and word-conflict. The project appropriates the theories of Michel Foucault, in relation to the word and sexuality as arbitrary cuts a historical and social construction, also addressing the theories of sexuality and the relationship of Judith Butler, and the relation between sexuality and Contemporary Art, as seen in Juan Vicente Aliaga. In a second aspect, we analyze the role of collectives and artists who have the urban space as a stage for acting, as discussed in Hal Foster and Douglas Crimp.

A Pedagogy of Holistic Media Literacy: Reflections on Culture Jamming as Transformative Learning and Healing

Stasko, Carly 14 December 2009 (has links)
This qualitative study uses narrative inquiry (Connelly & Clandinin, 1988, 1990, 2001) and self-study to investigate ways to further understand and facilitate the integration of holistic philosophies of education with media literacy pedagogies. As founder and director of the Youth Media Literacy Project and a self-titled Imagitator (one who agitates imagination), I have spent over 10 years teaching media literacy in various high schools, universities, and community centres across North America. This study will focus on my own personal practical knowledge (Connelly & Clandinin, 1982) as a culture jammer, educator and cancer survivor to illustrate my original vision of a ‘holistic media literacy pedagogy’. This research reflects on the emergence and impact of holistic media literacy in my personal and professional life and also draws from relevant interdisciplinary literature to challenge and synthesize current insights and theories of media literacy, holistic education and culture jamming.
