In this essay I am going to examine the meaning of the absent will in Schopenhauer’s willless subject of knowledge. I will try to answer the question of why the genius have to get rid of her will during her creative process and the consequences if the individual will prevail. I will also compare Nietzsche’s description of ”rausch” with Schopenhauer’s will-less subject of knowledge. Finally, I will try to place Schopenhauer’s will-less subject of knowledge in a contemporary context.

Mycket diskussion har ägt rum om huruvida medvetandets fenomenala aspekter kan reduceras till fysikaliska sakförhållanden. Enligt fysikalisterna är denna typ av reduktion möjlig då det subjektiva medvetandet i grunden inte är något icke-fysikaliskt. Syftet med denna uppsats är inte att undersöka huruvida medvetandet som sådant är metafysiskt reducerbart till de fysikaliska förhållandena, utan snarare att presentera ett problem som uppstår för fysikalisten om denne ämnar finna ett sätt att reducera en teori om det fenomenala till en teori om det fysikaliska. Problemet som här diskuteras är alltså inter-teoretiskt, snarare än metafysiskt. Grunden för diskussionen och problemformuleringen utgörs dels av David Chalmers kritik mot de reduktionistiska teorierna om medvetandet, dels av Lawrence Sklars taxonomi över olika typer av inter-teoretisk reduktion. Enligt Chalmers är det subjektiva medvetandet något unikt icke-reducerbart i en metafysisk bemärkelse. Detta i kombination med Sklars diskussion om reduktion mellan inhomogena teorier tjänar som utgångspunkt för en semantisk/teoretisk diskussion om reduktion av det fenomenala medvetandet.

The purpose of this essay is to evaluate Alastair Norcross's arguments from the text Puppies, Pigs and People: Eating Meat and Marginal Cases. In short, Norcross argues that it is wrong for humans to consume factory-produced meat, solely to enhance their taste experience, because of the suffering the animals are subjected to. To evaluate Norcross's argument, Peter Carruther's position is used as a potential objection, among other things. Carruthers believes and argues that animals have no moral standing, but what makes Carruthers' argument extra interesting is that he believes that we humans have certain obligations towards animals, even though they have no moral standing. In order to clarify Norcross's argument, all the premises are laid out and I present potential objections to them. In short, I argue that Norcross's argument is strong because Norcross provides good support for his premises and that gives us good reason to believe the premises.

Over the last decade, the demand for a unifying and foundational theoryof mathematics has become more critical. This is referred to as ”thefoundational crisis in Mathematics”. In this paper I will present a newposition in the philosophy of mathematics called Pluralism. Pluralismquestions the demand for a foundational theory that can encompass all ofmathematics, and consider the possibility of having opposing mathematicaltheories that are all veracious. I will argue for Pluralism being themost advantageous theory in the philosophy of mathematics in responseto the foundational crisis of mathematics. I will argue for this by discussingthe three major themes in philosophy of mathematics: Realism,Anti-realism, and Nihilism, and show that none of them are suitable asa foundational theory. I will further argue that Pluralism gives us thebest account of mathematics as it is practiced and gives the best possibleoutset for future mathematical research and creativity.

Si nosotros nos hemos dado una forma de gobierno que genera los problemas graves que padecemos, entonces, nos corresponde hacernos responsables de la realidad creada e investigar sobre otras formas de organizarse que permitan en desarrollo de la vida. <p>This is a study concerning Hegel’s critic of Rousseau’s common will and shows how Hegel’s concept of freedom should be understood from this criticism. This is done first of all through a study of Rousseau’s social contract and Hegel’s Philosophy of Right. The different state theories which Rousseau and Hegel represent, are evaluated separately, first Rousseau’s then Hegel’s to see how Hegel’s philosophy is a continuation of Rousseau’s philosophy. The most important concepts of this essay are Rousseau’s ”moral freedom” and Hegel’s concept of the ethical system.</p> / <p>Detta är en studie om Hegels kritik av Rousseaus allmänvilja och visar hur Hegels frihetsbegrepp ska förstås utifrån denna kritik. Detta görs först och främst genom en studie av Rousseaus verk samhällsfördraget och Hegels verk Rättsfilosofin.
