Rekonstrukce řídkého rozpadu K00(e4) na NA62 / NA62 data reconstruction of rare kaon decay K00(e4)

Zamkovský, Michal January 2014 (has links)
The thesis describes the study of the rare charged kaon decay K00 e4 on the NA62 experiment at CERN. This decay is interesting from the chiral perturbation theory point of view. In this work the data from 2007 recorded on NA62 ex- perimental setup were analyzed. The measurement of branching ratio for this process normalized to K00 3π decay has been performed. Also the form factor measurement has been done and the cusp singularity has been observed. 1

In Search of a Collective Form

Knochenhauer, Maja January 2013 (has links)
One Project - Three Parts My thesis is of an investigative character, and the focus has not been to end up with a result that is a building, but rather a collected material from an ongoing discussion on collective form, through the process of sketching on a building. I see the whole project as divided into three different parts, that are equally important. Theory The theoretical context has its basis in theory that tries move away from the singular. I have particularly studied Fumihiko Makis “Investigations of Collective Form” and parts of Stan Allens writings on “Field Conditions”, and these texts have been generators for the project. Theory also regards texts and discussion that I have assimilated during the work, as well as my own theoretical reflections. Reading, writing and discussing are essentail parts of the project and has continuously affected  the work. House I have chosen to focus on, and challenge, our notion of privacy and dwelling, and investigate in how we can live more collectively in our daily lives. I have sketched intuitively in physical models, and later on tried to push these free studies into a more complete building.  The context is Scandinavia today, and I have taken advantage of a site in Oslo to exemplify a situation while developing the house. Process Parallell to theorizing and sketching I have kept a journal documenting the process. After finishing a model or sketch I have tried to evaluate it by discussing and writing about it, and stating how to move on from there. I never intended to stop the process at a certain date, but to continue the investigation as long as I could. This is once again another, quite outzoomed, context, that has to do with the architectural profession and how we can work, produce knowledge and investigate in different societal issues. Parts from the journal, that have been significant for the development of the house, are presented in this book.

The Dissolving Form : A new central station for Linkoping, Sweden / Den upplösande formen : En ny centralstation för Linköping, Sverige

Holmgren, Marcus January 2013 (has links)
The human brain is always searching for recognizable shapes, it is natural for us to always look for connections and try to get an overall sense of things and situations. But what if the form dissolves itself and instead creates a range between the more clear and intense to the blurred and defocused.By using an entanglement of lines that further out from the inner centre reduces its intensity, it will create an effect of a weak, unsettled edge that is hard to read. My project investigates this phenomena and how a mass of single components merge into a singular whole permeable structure that absorbs the program of the transit centre.By using the technique of this complex nested hierarchy of components will I create a variation of areas and nested pochés. These areas will work as the different climate zones that a transit station requires.

An Analysis of the Flypaper and Fungibility Effects of Intergovernmental Revenue on Municipal Operating and Capital Budgets

Boadu, Bernard 05 1900 (has links)
The flypaper effect states that grants-in-aid increases public spending more than a comparable increase in personal income. If aid increases spending, then there is the possibility that it displaces own-source revenue or a portion of the aid itself is used to meet other priorities of governments, fungibility. Different local government structures have the tendency to prioritize either the operating or capital budget. Empirical evidence shows that federal and state grants have different flypaper effect. While fungible state aid is allocated to the operating budget, that of federal goes to the capital budget. Council-manager and mayor-council form of governments do not allocate fungible intergovernmental aid differently between the capital and operating budgets.

Dynamic web forms development using RuleML. Building a framework using metadata driven rules to control Web forms generation and appearance.

Albhbah, Atia M. January 2013 (has links)
Web forms development for Web based applications is often expensive, laborious, error-prone, time consuming and requires a lot of effort. Web forms are used by many different people with different backgrounds and a lot of demands. There is a very high cost associated with the need to update the Web application systems to achieve these demands. A wide range of techniques and ideas to automate the generation of Web forms exist. These techniques and ideas however, are not capable of generating the most dynamic behaviour of form elements, and make Insufficient use of database metadata to control Web forms¿ generation and appearance. In this thesis different techniques are proposed that use RuleML and database metadata to build rulebases to improve the automatic and dynamic generation of Web forms. First this thesis proposes the use of a RuleML format rulebase using Reaction RuleML that can be used to support the development of automated Web interfaces. Database metadata can be extracted from system catalogue tables in typical relational database systems, and used in conjunction with the rulebase to produce appropriate Web form elements. Results show that this mechanism successfully insulates application logic from code and suggests that Abstract iii the method can be extended from generic metadata rules to more domain specific rules. Second it proposes the use of common sense rules and domain specific rules rulebases using Reaction RuleML format in conjunction with database metadata rules to extend support for the development of automated Web forms. Third it proposes the use of rules that involve code to implement more semantics for Web forms. Separation between content, logic and presentation of Web applications has become an important issue for faster development and easy maintenance. Just as CSS applied on the client side to control the overall presentation of Web applications, a set of rules can give a similar consistency to the appearance and operation of any set of forms that interact with the same database. We develop rules to order Web form elements and query forms using Reaction RuleML format in conjunction with database metadata rules. The results show the potential of RuleML formats for representing database structural and active semantics. Fourth it proposes the use of a RuleML based approach to provide more support for greater semantics for example advanced domain support even when this is not a DBMS feature. The approach is to specify most of the semantics associated with data stored in RDBMS, to overcome some RDBMSs limitations. RuleML could be used to represent database metadata as an external format.

Three-dimensionality in Musical Form : Parameters for Musical Form Based on the Ancient Structures of Myth

Ahovaara, Arttu January 2024 (has links)
This thesis explores musical form and examines the possible relationship between structures of mythology and musical form, especially with modern musical parameters in mind, all based on the ancient structures of myth. One method for working with musical form is also presented, which attempts to show how musical material can be transformed in the confines of this form template. The approach taken to study musical form and to understand and manipulate it in composition work in this thesis attempts to find patterns for musical form outside of established musical concepts. This thesis explores the structure of ancient mythology collected by the American writer Joseph Campbell and draws conclusions between that and musical form, which attempts to showcase the relations between traditional musical forms and ancient structures of myth, and also presents methods of working with these premises in contemporary music.

How Form and Function Create Community in the Middle Landscape

Keith, Ryan H. 22 May 2003 (has links)
The middle landscape, more commonly referred to as Suburbia, has become spatially discontinuous, lacking the cohesive union, open spaces and city centers that once defined community. Presently, the middle landscape's community spaces do not offer the opportunity for familiar and chance encounters or ritual activity. Large-scale housing development in Northern Virginia and in the mid-Atlantic region is continually segregating and ultimately destroying community and all links to the area's history. Located in Southern Fairfax County, the newly abandoned Lorton Central and Maximum Security Prison Facility provides an opportunity to serve as a catalyst for community in this area. This thesis investigates the historic precedence for creating successful community centers. The author's personal investigation is focused upon using form and function to accomplish this vision. By adaptively reusing the existing architecture alongside new construction, the intent is to create a dense urban town center at the abandoned historic site. / Master of Landscape Architecture

Seeing Through a Wall

Kredell, Stephen John 13 February 1998 (has links)
Architecture possesses the ability to evoke wonder in the everyday. This thesis and project mark the beginning of the study of an architecture that reveals this poetic dimension of the everyday. In an increasingly standardized world, how can architecture maintain, heighten or instill sense of place? How can the architect make the program architectural? How can architecture truly re-present rather than degrade everyday life? / Master of Architecture
