"Klimatkrisen sitter inte i karantän" : En inramningsanalys av Fridays For Future Sveriges framställning avklimatfrågan före och efter Covid-19-utbrottet

Andersson, Fredrika January 2020 (has links)
As the need for action to tackle climate change grows, it has been stated that the corona pandemic mightconstitute a political opportunity for social movement organisations to advocate societal transformation. Thisthesis investigates the issue by answering if and how the young climate movement organization Fridays ForFuture Sweden has changed their framing of the climate crisis after the outbreak of Covid-19. Through aninductive frame analysis based on the collective action frames of Benford and Snow and applied on social mediaposts by the youth movement, the results show that a change in framing indeed has taken place. The mainfindings include how Fridays For Future Sweden has increased and dispersed their framing activity, intensifiedtheir use of a crisis frame and decreased the emphasis they put on intergenerational injustice. The studytherefore contributes empirically with an example of how a social movement organisation adapts to the politicalopportunities arising with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mouvements sociaux et économie solidaire : penser les interactions à travers l'exemple de la consommation / Social movements and solidarity based initiatives : thinking interactions through the example of consumption

Zimmer, Magali 07 December 2016 (has links)
The political dimension of solidarity economy networks is generally discussed interms of relations with the state, neglecting relations with social movements. Our dissertation aims to highlight those links with social movements by showing how the conceptual tools developed for the study of solidarity based initiative can be enhanced by the use of the concepts of sociology of social movements. More precisely, the main purpose is to study the repertoire of interpretations in the case of two solidarity initiatives to show how they have undergone profound renewal due to the interactions with social movements. The conceptual tools used in the sociology of social movements are found to be relevant for the study of solidarity initiatives, and in particular, the concepts of repertoire of interpretations, of collective identity, and of network. We have shown in both of the cases studied that the exchanges of frames or of types of action are common, reinforcing the need for further studies in this direction. The concepts of diagnostic frames and prognostic frames are also useful conceptual tools to understand how a situation perceived as unjust is constructed. They are also relevant for the understanding of the elaboration of the definition of proposals for action. The formation of a collective identity is studied as the result of this process of elaboration of diagnostic frames and prognostic frames. Far from being limited to their economic activities, the two solidarity initiatives studied here develop political activities that only the interactions produced in a specific network can explain. This dissertation focuses on two associations : Artisans du Monde and Associations pour le Maintien de l’Agriculture Paysanne. Both of them conduct economic activities with anobjective of mutual aid. Furthermore, these two associations share a political aim that can be observed through the claims about unjust situations drawn into the public sphere. The dissertation is organized in three parts. The first part highlights the conceptual tools used in the sociology of social movement sociology in order to choose the more relevant ones regarding our study of solidarity initiatives. This part also proposes a theoretical framework. The second and third parts focus on the two associations mentioned above.

Mediální obraz dobrovolnictví: Mladá fronta DNES a Svět neziskovek v roce 2011 / Media Picture of Volunteering: Mladá fronta DNES and Svět neziskovek in 2011

Tichotová - Fryčová, Linda January 2012 (has links)
The objective of this work is to survey the media picture of volunteering as provided to the public by the two Czech media - the most read quality paper in the Czech Republic Mladá fronta DNES and the professional electronic monthly Svět neziskovek. The survey consists of analysis of articles published in the respective media in 2011 for which the framing method (also called frame analysis) was used. With regard to the complexity of the phenomenon of volunteering, this work uses the theoretical concept of three paradigms (perspectives) as established by C. Rochester. These three paradigms (civil society paradigm, non-profit paradigm, volunteering as serious leisure) are identified in the articles, surveyed and mutually compared and subsequently the overall picture of volunteering as provided by the media is compiled. Quantitative evaluation of certain parameters related to volunteering within the articles (the field of voluntary activities, organizational context, age of volunteers and so forth) is also a part of this work.

Rámování nových psychoaktivních látek v drogové politice Velké Británie / Framing of New Psychoactive substances in British Drug Policy Discourse

Novotná, Lucie January 2016 (has links)
This thesis, New Psychoactive Substances in British Drug Policy Discourse addresses new psychoactive substances (NPS) in drug policy discourse in Great Britain between 2000-2014. It focuses on the identification of individual frames and aims to understand the different perspectives NPS can be framed in The theoretical framework of this thesis is based on the idea of social constructivism and Frame Theory. On this basis, the thesis identifies individual sponsors, the general characteristics of the problem, the injured party, the public policy implications and the value base. It identifies four frames which are present in the discourse. The first, called Fragmented, does not perceive NPS as a comprehensive problem, but as individually occurring substances. The second frame the Prohibitionist wishes to tackle the issue of NPS using new tools of prohibition. The third one, the Regulatory frame is strongly polarized towards the previous frame and wants to solve the NPS issue by creating a legally regulated market for psychoactive substances. The last, Wicked frame, perceives NPS as an unstructured problem, therefore it cannot be solved by one measure. This frame favors an expert debate and evidence in order to find the optimal solution. The thesis puts the issue into context and focuses on NPS...

The Layered Frames of Performed Tabletop: Actual-Play Podcasts and the Laminations of Media

Decicio, Brendan 01 December 2020 (has links)
Despite their sudden growth in popularity, the role-playing actual-play podcasts have either been ignored or grouped with the genre of audio drama in prior scholarly works. Examination using frame analysis shows, however, that these podcasts are distinct in their engagement of the audience on multiple, simultaneous levels; levels which correspond with well-known media genres such as Documentary, Fiction, and Game Play. Each frame has its own layer of identities, conduct, and avenue for appealing to audiences just as these genres have their own distinct appeals. Through the combinations of these frames, familiar tropes and techniques such as Short-Form Improv and Campbell's monomyth are broadened and challenged, and identities become entangled in this post-modern medium. Delineating the features of these frames and exploring their interactions and interconnectivity not only helps to distinguish the actual-play podcast as its own distinct podcast genre, but also highlights the potential for using such frames or frame analysis in other media forms.

Swimming Women : Discursive struggles over women's hours at municipal pools

Bergkvist Andersson, Magda January 2021 (has links)
This thesis explores constructions of meaning, or frames, surrounding the policy of women’s hours in public debates and municipal settings, using newspaper articles and municipal documents as main empirical sources. Departing from the puzzle of how women’s hours are depicted as both gender equitable and gender inequitable in the debate, the thesis draws on previous research of how gender equality and multiculturalism relates to each other, potentially producing tensions in policymaking and discourse. Although Sweden has often been noted for its exceptionality in both dimensions, research suggests that multiculturalism has lost its favorable status in Sweden. To understand the impact framing may have on institutions, analysis is grounded feminist discursive institutionalism. The analysis is realized in two steps. First, the analysis identifies four frames, two supporting and two opposing, most prominently used to construct and depict women’s hours in public debate. Second, the analysis zooms in on the three municipalities Västerås, Haninge and Västervik, exploring the relationship between framing and outcomes. The thesis finds that the frames of women’s hours are often involved in culturalist language, depicting women’s hours as a Muslim policy, or, implicitly, depicting women’s hours as a gender equal policy by connecting it to other women than Muslim. In relation to institutional outcomes, the thesis finds that if the policy is constructed in a Muslim-culturalist language - that is, diagnosed as a Muslim practice - it leads to disapproval. If the policy is constructed as a gender equal policy beneficial to “all” women, it seems more accessible to keep. In line with previous research, the findings are suggestive of how the idea of multiculturalism as a problem seems to have become salient while gender equality remains a highly attractive master frame, contributing to how the policy of women’s hours is adopted only if successfully connected to other groups of women than Muslim.

Rámcování duševních nemocí ve vybraných novinářských výstupech zaměřených na destigmatizaci / Framing of Mental Illness in Selected Media Outputs Focused on Destigmatization

Nováková, Barbora January 2021 (has links)
The dissertation called 'Framing of Mental Illness in Selected Media Outputs Focused on Destigmatization' explores how the documentary series 'Life Behind the Wall', online documentary series 'You are not alone', an audio documentary series 'My therapy' communicate the theme of mental health. The work aims to find out how selected journalistic projects framed the issue of mental illness. The theoretical part of the work first deals with mental illness, the concept of stigma and the role of the media in its transmission. It also focuses on destigmatization and defining the most important destigmatization approaches. The next part presents the theoretical basis of concepts such as the influence of the media, agenda-setting and framing. The analytical part presents 10 frameworks, which have been identified using the method of grounded theory. The results are summarized in a discussion, where found frameworks and their limits are being evaluated and compared with best practices based on manuals for journalists and professional publications on mental illness.
