Preto no branco : as crises políticas institucionais pelas páginas de O Estado de S. Paulo e Ultima Hora (1954/1956) /

Fidelis, Thiago. January 2018 (has links)
The choice of both papers and of the period was based on the following criteria: a) the segmentation of events related to the concept of crisis, that is to say, a time interval when some non-structured acts happens. From a political point of view, in these moments, there were numerous extreme facts, for instance: Getúlio Vargas's suicide and Marechal Lott's blacklash, that provided the sources for Jucelino Kubtschek's and João Goulart's presidential inauguration; b) in the current institutional policy, there were two political cultures: on one hand, principles of labour, based on nationalism and statism, which were developed by the Partido Trabalhista do Brasil (PTB), and, on the other hand, a liberal perspective, based on opposing all the beliefs defended by the other group. This last Party used to present a liberal economical perception related to a conservative position, being represented by União Democrática Nacional (UDN); c) both Newspapers were very close to these groups (although they were not specific publications organized to serve them). It is important to verify, for example, that UH was cre... (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Doutor

Practitioners' perspective on competitiveness : a Bourdieusian approach

Qazi, Kamal January 2015 (has links)
UK policy-makers, politicians and practitioners over the past few years have based the narrative of competitiveness around the idea of 'rebalancing the economy'. This entails viewing competitiveness as a rational process (through the Porterian lens) and identifies strategies from a top-down perspective. However, there is generally a lack of understanding of how competitiveness is practiced from the bottom-up. Therefore, this study adopts a practice-based perspective to investigate competitiveness from a practitioner's perspective. In this thesis, Bourdieu's habitus and reflexivity is used along with Maclean, Harvey and Chia's notion of life history storytelling through the lens of sensemaking and legitimacy. The thesis employs a constructivist perspective to collect and analyse qualitative evidence from 41 practitioners during the two phases of data collection. The data was analysed using thematic analysis, codes generated and inferences made. In the pilot-study (Delphi-study and semi-structured interviews), senior strategists (20) practicing in local enterprise partnerships (LEP's), universities, regional development agencies, manufacturing associations and various manufacturing firms confirmed the initial assumption that policy is prescriptive and rationalistic. The second phase consisted of semi-structured interviews (21) with senior, middle and lower level practitioners belonging to various types of manufacturing firms and allied services. The main contributions of the thesis are that (1) reflexive practitioner's past experiences shaped existing practices and perceptions of competitiveness and (2) three distinct thresholds of competitiveness inform the position of the practitioner and their desire to be competitive. This has implications for policy and practice.

Now I can do it all" : A qualitative study on the experinece of internship with SFI in Säffle Kommun

Larsson, Desirée, Andersson, Petra January 2018 (has links)

Physical activity : A qualitative study of pupils views on physical activity and aspiration of the recreation centre based on socioeconomic status.

Friberg, Caroline January 2018 (has links)

ABSTRACT We intend discuss how religion has an influence on the social space of two religious groups - candomblecistas (Terreiro do Cobre) and protestants (from Universal) - as well as the how these creeds have the power over perceptions, and representations around the agents’ neighborhoods, Engenho Velho da Federação, Salvador-BA. This snippet was chosen because the spatiality of the scared is singular in the neighborhood: following Engenho Velho’s main street, many churches can be found and numerous temples of an African matrix. In such a context of high-density religious culture, it is really interesting to focus on one of our research goals: these religious groups territories, something of poignant importance, since the evangelicals and candomblecistas are not always living together harmoniously. In this study, we will privilege that which is the essence of religion: its conceptions of the sacred. Therefore, the ultimate goal is to analyze how the sacred influences the neighborhood perceptions and the constitution of the social space of the groups. We conducted an argumentation that is born from the religious truths - unveiled by the Divine and appropriated by a sacerdotal body - driven by the rituals that reach the faithful. The idea is to understand the power of the religious speech in the proposed items (which links us to the sacred). While the candomblecistas have a dense topophilia within the neighborhood, the protestants shift between outrageous indifference and intense topophobia (older and teenagers, respectively), which can be explained by the religious values and representations, always related to its sacred character. However, religions is not an independent realm and it converses with social, cultural and spatial elements. We will follow, then, the summoning of articulated religion to its position and condition in the social structure, with economic, cultural and social’s capital (Bourdieu), which builds up to a religious habitus. This habitus is important to the representation and feelings about the neighborhood, but it is more powerful when we look to the spatiality of the social lives of the faithful's groups. To the candomblecistas, a big part of their social lives is lived in popular neighborhoods of the city of Salvador, since it is in this neighborhoods that the Candomblé is stronger and it is in the terreiros (temples) that the ties between the faithful are made. Between the protestants, there’s a denial of the world and the suppression of social life, that becomes restricted to the church, for the older followers. For the younger ones, the church leads them to a wide range of activities - making a conditioning of their sociabilities early on - with the goal of detaching these agents from the world, seen essentially as a negative place.

Salvador/PPGAU - UFBA

No. of bitstreams: 1 2016_tese_jvmaia.pdf: 2969691 bytes, checksum: 4aeef0ddf0dbc18e04be9c14d5f6e69b (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016 / The new world order, called Technocracy (XAVIER, 2009) indicates that the school can not ignore the reality in which it operates, it is constituent of a communications transformation process promoted by new technologies, but incidents also in ways of working , to decide, to think. Given this and new pedagogical framework, we aim therefore investigate the constitution of the discursive ethos anchored in three aspects of autobiographical narratives, namely the report of the teaching pedagogical praxis - front postmodern contextual influence and adequacy challenge to current educational environment in the clinical interview (MAIA-VASCONCELOS, 2005), the redefinition of the self-image of the teachers vie “récit” and narrative self-receptivity. The research corpus is composed of 20 techno autobiographical narratives. The research rhetoric composition has a multidisciplinary theoretical approach, which includes studies in the areas of education, sociology, philosophy and linguistics, under different axes, namely: the studies of autobiographical narratives, as a research method, data analysis and formation of narrative (BOLÍVAR, DOMINGO e FERNÁNDEZ, 2001; DOMINICÉ, 2007; PASSEGI, 2011; BERTAUX, 2010; BRUNER, 2006; JOSSO, 2009; LEJEUNE, [2008] 2014; MAIA-VASCONCELOS, 2003; PINEAU e LE GRAND, 2012; BAKHTHIN, 2003); studies of the self-image in speech (AMOSSY, 2005), the biographical embodiment (JOSSO, 2007, 2008, 2012); the sensitive body (BOIS e RUGIRA, 2006; HUMPICH, 2008); the discursive ethos (MAINGUENEAU, 1995, 2006, 2011); technological habitus (BOURDIEU, 2002, 2003, 2004; BOURDIEU e CHARTIER, 2012; ALBUQUERQUE, 2005); the relationship between the foreshadowing, figuration and refiguration narrative (RICOEUR, 1994, 1995, 1997, 2000a, 2000b, 2011); the approaches to the post-modern educational context and the new pedagogy (UNESCO, 2005, 2008; DEMO, 2009; FINO, 2008; LIBÂNEO, 1998; CAHRLOT, 2008; KENSKY, 2012, 2013); the relationship between time and reflexivity (GIDDENS, 2002); the postmodern historical context (BALMAN, 2001). The analysis has revealed that teachers show be aware that, in addition to expertise in their area, must show, in particular, digital skills (CARENZIO, 2012). Therefore, the survey results allow us to say that the teachers ethos emerges in techno autobiographical narrative in the unveiling of a discursive game in which the narrative setting signifies that, interwoven by a dialectical relationship, in the same proportion that the pedagogical praxis report influences in the reframing and the constitution of the image itself, it is also reinterpreted and made from that image of themself new meaning. In this perspective, the driving strength that propels the subject to this constant reinterpretation of the image itself is grounded in the desire to break paradigms and improve on the use of digital technologies. Thus, the formation of technological habitus depends less generational factor and more social capital, cultural and economic teacher. So whether or not presenting a geek ethos, the postmodern teacher who took a praxis mediated by pedagogical digital artifacts is, above all, curious and this insignia is revealed in the desire to learn and improve themselves constantly.

With the theoretical references of Historical Musicology and the concept of habitus, Field and Cultural Capitals of Pierre Bourdieu the research had as hypothesis the existence of a Brazilian School of Choro based on the habitus constructed by the formative trajectory of the musician of Choro and its interactions in the Field. The study of his habitus sought the unveiling for his understanding and recognition of the potentialities of Choro as a cultural product of a social class, its identity, multiplicity of meanings and its increasing diffusion. The lack of bibliographical sources as to the way (s) of touching it in Brazil and the limitations of its inclusion in formal education curricula motivated the adoption of qualitative research with an ethnographic approach to the collection of sources. The connections between Choro and Brazilian culture were studied making it visible for use as a foundation for Brazilian music education with its knowledges, its common stylistic aspects of performance, its repertoire, institutions, followers, productivity, technical characteristics, diffusion and consecration. Motivated by the professional activity of the author as a choro musician, teacher, composer and instrumentalist, in the testimonies of his agents and in the study of his musical culture, the research sought to identify its forms of transmission by the musical school of Choro and its meanings according to its context. Methodological procedures such as data collection strategies, with participant observation, questionnaire, semi-structured interview with Brazilian musicians, aspects of the author's experience in learning and teaching of crying, field notes, documentary analysis on recordings in LPs, CDs , cassette tapes, notes, newspaper news made possible the collection of data and with which, were worked in order to present the results later.

RACE, SOCIALIZATION, AND CIVILITY: INTERROGATING THE COMMUNICATIVE CONSTRUCTION OF THE WHITE HABITUS

Rudick, Charles Kyle 01 May 2015 (has links)
The purpose of this dissertation project was to understand how institutions of higher education, through both punishments and rewards, ensure that dominant cultural codes are "taught" to students of color in ways that normalize whiteness ideologies. I wanted to understand racism in higher education through the lens of socialization to show the ways in which institutional members (un)intentionally conflate dominant cultural codes with the "correct" or "normal" way to think, act, or speak. Furthermore, I was interested in the ways that students of color take up, defer, resist, adapt, mix, subvert, and/or accommodate the institutional practices that (re)produce racial power within contemporary U.S. higher education. To pursue these goals, I focused on topics of racism, socialization through the white habitus, and civility utilizing critical-qualitative methodologies. I interviewed fourteen participants of various racial backgrounds a total of twenty-eight times to understand how they identified and negotiated the institutional norms of higher education. Specially, I utilized in-depth interviewing methods with narrative analysis and counterstory techniques to generate themes and present stories concerning my topics. My analysis of participants' responses generated insights related to my areas of study. First, I showed how racism manifests in a myriad of ways, including stereotypes and stereotype threats, microaggressions of invisibility, and overt forms of physical/mental violence. These themes indicate that racism still presents a significant threat to the health, well-being, and success of students of color within higher education. Second, I utilized Co-Cultural Theory to analyze participants' descriptions of higher education as a space that is dominated by the white habitus. That is, participants described specific communicative codes that constituted the practices of an idealized White identity within higher education and the ways they assimilated, accommodated, and separated from that identity. Third, I drew upon the notion of civility to understand the ways that its practice can function to perpetuate or subvert racism within higher education. Participants described appeals to covering ground and common courtesy as ways that conversations about race and racism are elided by dominant members in higher education thereby perpetuating whiteness. Additionally, I found that participants utilized purposive silence, niceness, and absurdity as ways to subvert the hegemonic dimensions of civility. Overall, my analysis points to the relationships among cultural, institutional, and individual rules and performances of race and racism. I concluded my dissertation by describing the major findings of the project and offering ways to combat racism in higher education. I offered that this dissertation can further whiteness studies by focusing attention on the cultural norms and practices that constitute the socializing mechanisms of higher education (or other institutions). This type of analysis is important because it does not rely upon essentialized racial identities (e.g., linking whiteness to White bodies); instead, it focuses attention on the institutional rules and norms that constitute yet transcend racial categories. I also drew upon Black Feminist Thought and Critical Communication Pedagogy to map out a dialogic ethic that serves as a foundation for communicating through inclusive civility to provide a guide for coalitional politics for social-justice work. I ended with the hope that such an ethic may provide a necessary step in the work to elicit institutional change and cultural renewal.

Greenies, growlers and goffers : the development of the Royal Navy habitus

Shobrook, Russell Andrew John Roy January 2017 (has links)
This thesis applies the theoretical perspective of Bourdieu to investigate the development of a Royal Navy habitus. It is one of the first studies to uncover distinct social processes within the Royal Navy that otherwise would have largely remained unknown to a wider academic audience. An ethnographic methodology was used to investigate the attitudes of serving members of the Royal Navy using an approach that was informed by the Biographical Narrative Interview Method (Wengraf 2001). In my analysis, I constructed a complex picture of how individuals develop a particular habitus, showing how the interplay between the institutional and individual habitus influences the process and pattern of their choice making. Through the development of the institutional habitus and its internalisation by each person, the previously unthinkable becomes possible, the possible becomes routine and not doing the routine, unthinkable. This sets the pattern for subsequent behaviours which are passed on to the next generation. Although each reproduction is subtly different it falls within the broader outline of the institutional habitus as constituted at that time. The Royal Navy creates aspiration through division by developing competition between the different ranks of its personnel within the organisation. Strong familial relationships, kinship bonds and the development of an affective dimension through traineeship produce the Royal Navy habitus that becomes the structuring principle for agents’ future career development. Through the imposition of an institutionally defined cultural capital, agents engage in this process in order to realise their career ambitions.
