Kläderna gör arbetaren : -En kvalitativ studie över arbetskläders symboliska värde

Åström, Johan January 2008 (has links)

Söderhäll, Martin January 2013 (has links)

The Güegüencista Experience: Masquerade, Embodiment, and Decolonization in Early Twenty-First Century Nicaragua

ADAM, MAXWELL JOHN ROGER 21 September 2011 (has links)
This thesis is about exploring and theorizing about the contemporary meanings and (re)production of El Güegüense, a politically charged ancient Nicaraguan dance-drama. The ethnographic affair revolves around the researcher’s experiences learning the Güegüense tradition at the Nicaraguan Academy of Dance in Managua. Utilizing “the apprenticeship” as methodology, which has perhaps most effectively been teased out in Loïc Wacquant’s (2004) Body and Soul, the researcher fleshes out under what circumstances one becomes a practitioner of the Güegüense tradition, what it means to be a cultural performer, and whether this ancient physical tradition still demonstrates and embodies its anti-colonial themes. After conducting interviews with leading practitioners, the author utilizes the performance as a vector of knowledge and speaks not only to how the performance culturally manifests but also to how contested its meanings truly are, as well as the recent depoliticizing of the performance, which it is argued is a direct result of the state becoming involved with this ancient physical tradition. / Thesis (Master, Kinesiology & Health Studies) -- Queen's University, 2011-09-21 08:53:02.248

Hur skapas en journalist? : En biografisk studie på nyexaminerade journalister

Ankarvik, Max January 2014 (has links)
The study - Hur skapas en journalist? - examines why so many people choose to turn tothe journalist profession when the conditions for a secure position on the labor market ispoor. The study also highlights how recently graduated journalist perceives their temporary and insecure position on the labor market. The study was performed trough ten biographical interviews with recently graduated journalists. Via the interviews I examined what has formed the individuals to perceive journalism as a rational or pragmatic choice for a career. The study shows that journalists, who come from families with high cultural capital, have been shaped by a particular culture of education, which focuses on education as a step towards selfrealization. The individuals have therefore taken career decisions among what they find developing. In the study, I found that the journalists have undergone two different types of life courses. There are the journalists who followed a more linear life course to the profession, and the ones who have undergone a more “crooked” life course. The linear life course is characterized by the fact that the individuals relatively early after highschool started to study journalism. These individuals, who followed the linear life course, have had a more straight forward way to the occupation mainly because of their social network. They have, through their social network, had the journalistic profession placed on their horizon of action because they either have parents who are journalists or because they have worked with the profession at some point. Those individuals whohave followed a crooked life course have not seen journalism as an obvious career choice, but the profession has progressively placed itself on their horizon of action because of past experiences. They have traveled, moved, worked and studied a variety of classes, mainly classes whit focus on languages and creative writing, before they started to study journalism. These past experiences have formed the individuals to perceive journalism as a pragmatic or rational career choice. I also find indications that the journalists who have undergone a more crooked life course find their insecure and temporary situation on the labor market less problematicthan the ones who have followed a linear life course. I suggest that the journalists whohave undergone a crooked life course have developed a higher tolerance towards a precarious and temporary situation on the labor market, their previous flexible life course have given rise to a higher tolerance of uncertainty. In other words, their pastlives has partly formed them to want to become journalists, but also made them more suitable for a temporary labor market.

Sju barn lär sig läsa och skriva : Familjeliv och populärkultur i möte med förskola och skola / Seven children learn to read and write : Family life and popular culture in contact with preschool and primary school

Fast, Carina January 2007 (has links)
This thesis is an ethnographic study in which seven Swedish children from different social and cultural environments were followed over three years. The study began when the children were four years old. The main aim of this thesis is to investigate through what social and cul-tural practices seven children meet literacy events in their families. A second aim is to track informal and everyday literacy events which the children take part in or practice on their own. A further aim is to study the transition be-tween home, preschool, preschool class and primary school in order to de-termine to what extent and in what ways the children are allowed to use their previous experience with and knowledge of literacy. The results show that the children are socialised in practices rich in liter-acy events via their culture, traditions, language and religion. The children practise reading and writing in a number of contexts. This occurs long before the pupils have been exposed to formal education. In the work on this study, it has also become clear that the seven children, regardless of their cultural, language or socioeconomic background, share experiences and knowledge relating to popular culture and the media. The children have a common understanding of texts in the form of words, names, images and icons. The value of this knowledge and experience is often as-signed by the children themselves in their contact with other children. The seven children, in this study, come to preschool and primary school with a wealth of experience in literacies from their family lives. Some chil-dren are allowed to bring their experience to the classroom. For them, there is continuity between literacy practices at home and at school. Others are forced to leave their experience outside the classroom. What is common to all children is that their knowledge about literacy related to popular culture and the media has a low cultural value in instructional settings.
