Schönfeldt, Hans-Jürgen, von Löwis, Sibylle 03 January 2017 (has links) (PDF)
Due to the permanent grow in PC and workstation power it is possible to estimate the spectral variances directly by the Fourier transform of a time series. Thereby one has to choose an appropriate data window. Ignoring this leads to an unsuited square window function where the spectral power in one frequency bin contains leakage from frequency components that are bins away. From the window functions we tested here, the Hanning window has best properties with minimum leakage. Analogous to windowing of the auto- and crosscorrelation function in the frequency domain we give also the Hanning window for the Fourier transform of time series in the frequency domain.

Due to the growing demand for energy provided in a more reliable way, several control, protection and monitoring methodologies are been developed. For this reason it is of great importance the utilization of appropriate signal processing techniques that allow a precise and fast extraction of parameters from the electrical grid. The advent of new technologies has enabled the modernization of the electric energy generation, transmission and distribution systems, improving its efficiency and service reliability. On the other hand, it was noted a widespread in the application of non-linear loads, responsible for generating harmonics and inter-harmonics components that distorts the electrical signal (voltage and current), hindering the estimation process of useful parameters. With the aim to keep providing energy in a safe and reliable way, some prerequisites must be taken into account, such as the low harmonic distortion, stable amplitude, low oscillation of the fundamental frequency among others. Nowadays, due to the widespread use of nonlinear loads and equipment coupled to the grid, tracking these power quality parameters is not an easy task. That is why novel approaches and techniques of signal processing must be combined with knowledge of power systems theory as a form to estimate and keep track of these measurements. Within this context several algorithms are been developed, each one with its specificity and performance. The present work proposes the development of a new filter, based on the Hanning filter, capable of eliminating harmonics and attenuate with more efficiency the inter-harmonic components besides being more stable for fixed point implementation. This filter is combined with an algorithm that enable the adjustment of its coefficients according to the frequency estimation, assuring a synchronous sampling process, that is, the sampling rate will always be an integer multiple of the actual system frequency. In this way, the amplitude estimation and component reconstruction are performed with better accuracy even when considering the time-varying nature of the fundamental frequency of the signal and the high amount of distortion due to harmonics and inter-harmonics, depicting with greater fidelity the true signal of power system. Results have shown better performance than the already known techniques, considering signal with off-nominal frequency as well as high level of harmonic and inter-harmonic distortion, reaching 74% of improvement in relation with MAF and almost 90% in relation of conventional Hanning.

Accurate Method To Measure Harmonics And Interharmonics In Shipboard Power Quality Analysis

Kondabathini, Anil Kumar 13 May 2006 (has links)
This thesis describes a novel approach that utilizes a special property of the Hanning window to accurately detect the fundamental frequency of the data signal in the presence of harmonic and interharmonic interference. After obtaining the fundamental frequency, the same procedure is applied to all possible harmonics to be filtered for further analysis of the interharmonics. The proposed approach is validated using numerical tests. In the literature, different authors have shown the difficulty of extracting a synchronized sampling frequency from the analyzed signal and discussed the effect of deviation of the fundamental in the presence of harmonics. This thesis suggests a new approach to overcome the difficulties, even if the interharmonics present are in frequency bins near the fundamental. In order to perform the interharmonic analysis, the author followed the IEC standard draft signal processing recommendations, with the exception of using a weighted Hanning window instead of a rectangular window in order to minimize the effect of the spectral leakage, and to minimize the effect of interharmonics on the main harmonics.

Global and Multi-Input-Multi-Output (MIMO) Extensions of the Algorithm of Mode Isolation (AMI)

Allen, Matthew Scott 18 April 2005 (has links)
A wide range of dynamic systems can be approximated as linear and time invariant, for which a wealth of tools are available to characterize or modify their dynamic characteristics. Experimental modal analysis (EMA) is a procedure whereby the natural frequencies, damping ratios and mode shapes which parameterize vibratory, linear, time invariant systems are derived from experimentally measured response data. EMA is commonly applied in a multitude of applications, for example, to generate experimental models of dynamic systems, validate finite element models and to characterize dissipation in vibratory systems. Recent EMA has also been used to characterize damage or defects in a variety of systems. The Algorithm of Mode Isolation (AMI), presented by Drexel and Ginsberg in 2001, employs a unique strategy for modal parameter estimation in which modes are sequentially identified and subtracted from a set of FRFs. Their natural frequencies, damping ratios and mode vectors are then refined through an iterative procedure. This contrasts conventional multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) identification algorithms, most of which attempt to identify all of the modes of a system simultaneously. This dissertation presents a hybrid multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) implementation of the algorithm of mode isolation that improves the performance of AMI for systems with very close or weakly excited modes. The algorithmic steps are amenable to semi-automatic identification, and many FRFs can be processed efficiently and without concern for ill-conditioning, even when many modes are identified. The performance of the algorithm is demonstrated on noise contaminated analytical response data from two systems having close modes, one of which has localized modes while the other has globally responsive modes. The results are compared with other popular algorithms. MIMO-AMI is also applied to experimentally obtained data from shaker excited tests of the Z24 highway bridge, demonstrating the algorithm's performance on a data set typical of many EMA applications. Considerations for determining the number of modes active in the frequency band of interest are addressed, and the results obtained are compared to those found by other groups of researchers.

Rodesten, Stephan January 2017 (has links)
This report will cover the work process behind creating a spectrum analyzer. The reader will be able to read about the chosen method but also the alternative methods. Apart from this the theoretical parts behind every moment will also be covered and compared to potential alternative solutions. The project has been carried out on behalf of KA Automation. The purpose of the project was to create a base for analyzing sound frequencies. The goal was to be able to identify sound properties in the form of frequencies in servo motors in for example water pumps. The idea was to be able to in a later development stage be able to identify when new frequencies have entered the audio profile which might result in the motor to be in need of service. The base is created with the help of C# and the sound library NAudio. From the result one can conclude that this program can analyze sound and display the magnitude of its frequency components and is therefore a suitable base for future development.
