Mito, símbolo e imaginação: um percurso a partir da hermenêutica de Paul Ricouer / Myth, symbol and imagination: a journey from the hermeneutics of Paul Ricouer

Medeiros, Jonas Torres January 2015 (has links)
MEDEIROS, Jonas Torres. 2015. 134f. – Dissertação (Mestrado) – Universidade Federal do Ceará, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Filosofia, Fortaleza (CE), 2015. / Submitted by Gustavo Daher (gdaherufc@hotmail.com) on 2017-02-21T16:00:21Z No. of bitstreams: 1 2015_dis_jtmedeiros.pdf: 1036844 bytes, checksum: 9adcde4fa69db0f9dc0cfa2298dfb171 (MD5) / Approved for entry into archive by Márcia Araújo (marcia_m_bezerra@yahoo.com.br) on 2017-03-03T11:03:46Z (GMT) No. of bitstreams: 1 2015_dis_jtmedeiros.pdf: 1036844 bytes, checksum: 9adcde4fa69db0f9dc0cfa2298dfb171 (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2017-03-03T11:03:46Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 2015_dis_jtmedeiros.pdf: 1036844 bytes, checksum: 9adcde4fa69db0f9dc0cfa2298dfb171 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015 / The guiding principle of this work is the relationship between myth, symbol and imagination in the philosophical hermeneutics of Paul Ricoeur. The consideration of these themes is supported by the major works of the philosopher published in the 1960's: La Symbolique du Mal (1960), De l'interprétation: essai sur Freud (1965) and Le conflit des interprétations: essais d'herméneutique (1969). The analysis of these works leads, from an interpretation of multiple symbols and myths of evil in various religions and cultural traditions, to a new understanding of imagination and subjectivity. The research aims to show how the philosophy proposed by the author refereed the different and sometimes conflicting hermeneutics approaches around the problem of the symbol. Since the beginning of his itinerary, Ricoeur makes clear its link with two cultures that are, according to him, the first layer of our philosophical memory: the Greek and Jewish culture. More precisely, the meeting of the Jewish source with the Greek origin is the the fundamental intercession and founder of our culture. The Jewish source is the first other of philosophy, his closest other. Our investigation is motivated by the expression as soon as dense and emblematic coined by Ricoeur at the conclusion of La symbolique du mal (1960): “the symbol causes us to think”. With this maxim, explains the symbol as a means of access to a renewal of the reflective philosophy. This route becomes effective by a detour: in fact, the first truth of the philosophies of consciousness — I exist, I think — can only be achieved through a long detour, as far as the Cogito was objectivated: his works, actions, representations and institutions. The decipherment of this objectification reveals the understanding of the self. The research shows that a philosophy of reflection does not identify with a philosophy of consciousness, if by consciousness we understand the immediate consciousness of self. Hence the need for mediation, scope where the symbols are located. The conscience, then, wouldn't be a datum, but a task. The research proposal also tries to assess the confrontation between the critique of Freud and symbolic analysis of evil through a critical reading of the book De l'interprétation: essai sur Freud. This step leads to the point where the archaeology of Freudian Cogito, allied to a teleology of the self, provide a dialectical mediation to the conflict of two rivals hermeneutics: the hermeneutics of suspicion (or reduction) and the hermeneutics of restoration. Finally, evaluates the conception of imagination that emerges of the war of interpretations, assessing the role that a theory of the imagination can play as an element which reveals the articulation and coherence of the author's philosophical itinerary.

Van Schalkwyk, Helena Claudina 30 November 2003 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / The hypothesis debated here is that a critical reading process leads to a responsible use of the Bible. The metaphor of birth and growth is used autobiographically in order to illustrate the mastering of a critical reading process. Fundamentalism as condition before the birth indicates a pre-critical reading and understanding of the Bible. The transition to a critical reading and understanding contains certain psychological effects for the reader. In some instances it may even be called a painful birth process. The growing process progresses slowly. Concepts like inspiration, canon, Scriptural authority, the Bible as Word of God are once more scrutinised in the light of a critical reading process. Aspects that need to be settled with any critical reading are surveyed and may be seen as proposed directives for the mastering of the process: the strangeness of the world of the Bible, the evolution of the Bible, the Bible as literature and the critical Bible reader and objectivity. A critical reading process has certain implications for the traditional understanding of certain Bible themes. This, for example, is illustrated in view of the relation between the two testaments, prophecy, human thinking about God in the Bible and the liberating energy of justification through faith. New insights also establish the necessity for contact with believers within and outside the Christian tradition. With regard to the New Testament and the Jesus movement, a critical reading also leads to new insights. Historical Jesus research is handled and settled in earnest in an attempt to reflect new insights in the Christian tradition. In conclusion, the role of the church is surveyed through a critical reading process. A few personal contentions and conceptions of faith are presented as a survey of the growing process up till the present time. The Divine image of a critical reader is argued in the light of the knowledge of science and the provisional nature of human knowledge about God. That the baby is not thrown out with the bath-water, implies that a critical reader's faith in God need not be sacrificed. On the contrary, it can lead to an enriching spiritual experience. / Religious Studies and Arabic / D. Litt. et Phil. (Bybelkunde)

A dialectical discourse on responsible business behaviour within small medium enterprises : a case study of Pakistan

Syeddah, Arzoo Fatima January 2017 (has links)
This thesis investigates the dialectical nature of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) phenomenon a common buzzword in today’s globalized economy. The emergence of CSR as a significant issue in recent years can be attributed to the expectation in developed countries for business to engage with society beyond their commercial interests. Business are now under sustained pressure to be held publicly accountable for their activities. The research shed light on two research gaps identified within business ethics- idea of business responsibility firstly in the context of the big economic players of tomorrow- emerging markets; and secondly in relation to small and medium enterprises. Adopting a phenomenological approach based on Critical Theory and Hermeneutics framework, the research attempted to uncover the link between business and ethics in relation to SMEs. This led to the construction of a theoretical model –A.R.T Model, aimed at enhancing understanding of how SMEs perceive and practice socially responsible behaviour. Contribution to knowledge was also made in applying Bourdieu’s Theory of Logic of Practice to explain actions of SME owner-managers; and carrying out a comparative analysis of Social Capital theory versus normative Stakeholder Theory to describe workings of SMEs towards their stakeholders. These contributions met the objectives of the study: creation of a ‘native’ model of social responsibility for SMEs in Pakistan (reflective of the local social reality) using a business ethics and cultural construction; and exploring the nature and evolution of CSR in emerging markets. The research also revealed that socially responsible practices by SMEs are inherently informal and voluntary in nature, driven more so by ethical than religious motivations. Furthermore, philosophical synergies were created between the A.R.T model and the normative construct consisting of Classical antiquities - Kant, Adam Smith and Machiavelli, which bridged the gap between theory and CSR driven practice.

This dissertation starts with the basis of Gadamer's critique of the aesthetic consciousness on the context of the natural sciences grounding and due to the establishment of natural sciences. Considering Gadamer's opposition on the prevalence of natural sciences' methods in all spheres of human experience in the world, our effort will be towards understanding of the aesthetic experience. In this sense, we approach aisthesis focusing the problem around art from Plato and Aristotle’s perspective, reaching the aesthetic establishment as a specific field of the philosophical knowledge in Baumgarten’s illuminist thought. Additionally, this study intends to approach the aesthetic consciousness basis, which lies in the subjection derived from Kant’s critical thought. After that, we will approximate Gadamer’s perspectives in order to liberate the experience of art from the aesthetic consciousness field, which according to this philosopher, might be considered as a truth, even if not being restricted to the natural sciences methods. From this prerogative, Gadamer uses the notion of game as experience, outside the subjective centrality. By redirecting the experience, the artistic phenomenon may be seen as a constitutive part of the human existential experience not being restricted to subjective faculties.

Osiel Lourenco de Carvalho 13 January 2011 (has links)
A primeira parte, aborda o surgimento e principais características do método histórico crítico, o qual recebeu influência do iluminismo e racionalismo. / An analysis of academic hermeneutics, Pentecostal, Catholic, newpentecostal and contextual. The first part considers the emergence and main characteristics of the historical critical method., Which received the influence of the Enlightenment and rationalism. This method is characterized by the use of auxiliary sciences with archeology and history, with the objective of determining the historicity of the biblical texts. The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God, the greatest representative of Brazilian neo- Pentecostal movement has changed has developed a particular way of reading the Bible. If the historical critical method emphasizes that one must determine the original intent of the biblical author, exegetes of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God have no such concern. Their primary purpose is to update the biblical text in order to meet the needs of our time. Make greater use Old Testament texts to substantiate the so-called prosperity theology, because according to the Bible expositors of Universal, every child of God has the right to prosper. With regard to biblical interpretation in the Catholic church is very diverse, but the hermeneutic of Catholicism will be addressed in accordance with the Divine God and Providentissimus Afflante Spiritu, as well as the resolutions in regard to biblical interpretation adopted at Vatican II. The so-called contextual hermeneutics, seek to apply the biblical text in order to reduce the social ills, because according to the scholars of hermeneutics, God always stands next to broken social groups like the poor, women and blacks. The largest Pentecostal church in Brazil is almost one hundred years, yet the biblical interpretation that evangelical denomination was not systematized. One reason was that in the first year of implementation of the Assembly of God in Brazil, alleged that the correct understanding of the Bible come from a special illumination of the Holy Spirit. However, it is observed that the groups within the Assemblies of God that emphasize the need to use auxiliary resources in biblical interpretation. The second part takes place a critical analysis of hermeneutics, because neither can be regarded as superior because they all have pluses and minuses. For this reason, we propose a dialogue between hermeneutics, considering that even if he does not realize that dialogue is already happening in practice. So in the end there is a description of how the Fathers read the Bible, and what contributions it can bring to contemporary interpreters of Scriptures.

Ética e hermenêutica: Jesus e o paralytikos

Éverton Nery Carneiro 25 September 2012 (has links)
This text works on biblical interpretation, especially considering not only what the bible isnt all Said, but also the various interpretations dont promote your exhastion, that is, it is always something more, so an announcement. Therefore, this work is quite relevant to give rise firm steps in dealing with biblical hermeneutics, seeking to present the results of research that is carried out to the biblical interpretation of Mathew 9.2-8. The passage in question is constructed showing that healing and forgiveness to return life to man, one paralytikos. For achieve the objectives proposed in this research is necessary to guide this study from a biblical hermeneutics considering that it is important to articulate the biblical narrative-ethicalhermeneutics to broader transformations taking place in society, them attempt to understand the links between changes social life and the biblical text, as well as their symbolic constructions. In the sense this text provides an initial discussion of ethics specifically applied to Jesus in a second stage to address the ethical hermeneutics in a bias, thinking, dialogue with the hermeneutics of ethics, as is narrated dialogue between Jesus and paralytikos to finally do an update of the some conduct. Dont having a casual nature, randon or accidental, or even unpredictable, ethics presents itself not only as something to be studied, but mainly lived, and when talking about life, it is the Word of God, that perspective of ethics Jesus, he renounces the legal and therefore the truth in this sense pre-established.

The feminist use of inclusive language for the Trinity: A case study in hermeneutical method

Blake, Jedidiah Kwame Rydell 29 November 2005 (has links)
This thesis explores the relationship between feminists' use of inclusive language for the Trinity and their hermeneutical method in order to determine the viability of their method for theological construction. Chapter 1 describes the theological tradition out of which the feminist critique emerges, noting the intratextual approach that characterizes the hermeneutics of communication and the extratextual approach that distinguishes feminist socio-pragmatic hermeneutics. Chapter 2 elucidates the search for authorial intention and provides a criterion by which to evaluate the feminist hermeneutic. Chapter 3 analyzes feminist socio-pragmatic hermeneutics against the background of a hermeneutics of communication and the normativity of the Scriptures for theological reflection. Chapter 4 demonstrates how the intratextual approach, invariably, yields a truly biblical understanding of the Trinitarian name. Chapter 5 delineates the biblical-theological implications of the study.

A Man "Mighty in the Scriptures": The Hermeneutic of John A. Broadus and Its Impact on His Preaching

Bumpers, Howard Jared 07 June 2018 (has links)
Abstract A MAN “MIGHTY IN THE SCRIPTURES”: THE HERMENEUTIC OF JOHN A. BROADUS AND ITS IMPACT ON HIS PREACHING Howard Jared Bumpers, PhD The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, 2018 Chair: Dr. Hershael W. York This dissertation examines the hermeneutical presuppositions and principles of John A. Broadus and their impact on his theory and practice of preaching. Chapter 1 establishes the importance of studying preaching from a historical perspective and states the thesis of the dissertation. Chapter 2 provides a brief biographical sketch of the Southern Baptist pastor and professor John Albert Broadus. Chapter 3 focuses on the hermeneutical presuppositions that undergirded Broadus’s hermeneutic, particularly his view of Scripture. Chapter 4 identifies the principles that constituted Broadus’s hermeneutic and guided his exegesis. Chapter 5 analyzes Broadus’s exegetical works in order to demonstrate he consistently employed the hermeneutical principles that he advocated. Chapter 6 briefly summarizes Broadus’s homiletical theory and then analyzes the sermons of Broadus to show the impact that his hermeneutic had on his preaching. The final chapter summarizes the key points of the dissertation and considers the value of Broadus’s approach to hermeneutics and homiletics for contemporary preaching.
