La culture de l'honneur : le cas de l'Angleterre des XIVe- XVe siecles / The cultur of honor : the case of England in the XIV-XV

Fievet, Raoul 11 December 2013 (has links)
The culture of honor, a vital concept in the structure of medieval society, here is the subject of a particular analysis through england in the late middle age. This analysis attempts to provide a comprehensive overview of social representations of honor, within the main groups in society. In this regard, many developments highlight how individuals and groups perceive and express the concept of honor. This study also aims to show how individuals or groups trying to assert their honorable character, including through violence. In addition, the more specific case of the aristocracy is naturally well treated, in particular in view of the profound changes that have affected this group in england during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, related to the phenomenon of "bastard feudalism" and decline in military experience. In addition, this study explains the operating principle of honor, particularly as regards the ties between the honor and social status. This thesis also highlights the impact of state formation on the culture of honor, especially on the honor of the nobles and gentlemen.

The wealthier extracts of Bahia and Brazil’s society had their own images and ideas on wedding, honor and the ideal male and female profiles, in the 19th century, which expressed the social and cultural codes that guided social coexistence. It has been verified on this work, how the separation between the civil and religious wedding helped (re)create these images and ideas, as well as the way the hierarchic systemrelated issues, the social questions, the scientific development and the growing bourgeois profile of our society established themselves as ways of creating images and representations. A varied range of sources has been used, both real and fictional, such as medical records, juridical (civil and canonic) documents, as well as a methodology that mixes historical theories from the New Cultural History, the History of Human Gender etc. Concepts like gender, as proposed by Scott; representations, according to Chartier; Micro-History and ‘detailing method’, as established by Ginzburg, were unquestionably useful, and so were the theories by Foucault which defended the use of a methodology that referred importance to the ideas of the historical agents of the past. / Salvador

Kansas Honor Flight - Wamego High School: service and sacrifice, promise and potential

Hornung, Shawn January 1900 (has links)
Master of Arts / Department of Curriculum and Instruction / Thomas Vontz / The Honor Flight Network is a national non-profit organization based out of Springfield, Ohio, with the mission to “transport our heroes to Washington D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials.” Kansas Honor Flight – Wamego High School pairs high school students from the local chapter of the National Honor Society with area veterans. This experiential service-learning project provides America’s next generation the opportunity to connect with and learn from America’s “G.I. Generations.” Veterans of World War II, the Korean War, and the Viet Nam War are accompanied by student-guardians who serve as their assistants and guides. The avowed mission is accomplished with students first and foremost providing service for their veteran through the duration of the trip. Yet, the promise of the journey is realized when the student-guardians are able to witness the memorials through the eyes of those who exemplified courage, fortitude, patriotism, service, and sacrifice – flesh and blood representatives of civic virtue. Similarly, the veterans behold the beneficiaries of their sacrifice providing respectful service; virtuous acts voluntary, not obligatory. Different generations of constitutional stakeholders – those who actively preserved the republican experiment, others preparing to be engaged participants therein – experiencing hope for the future as well as gratitude for those who came before. This report includes a narrative of the inaugural mission of Kansas Honor Flight – Wamego High School. Using said narrative as exemplar of following flights, the report chronicles the creation of bridging social capital through implicit reciprocity and the emergence of intergenerational trust-building. The spanning of generations is discussed through the sharing of enduring republican principles. Heroes are democratized as witness is bore by the soldier who lived to tell the tale.

Forced Marriage as it appears in Sweden

Thejls, Jenifer, Svantesson, Marianne January 2012 (has links)
The aim of this bachelor essay was to study the phenomenon of forced marriage among women who are living in Sweden with another ethnic and cultural background than Swedes. To investigate different kinds of marriage settings, the honor culture, honor violence and murder in connection to forced marriage. The following question has been formulated: What are the respondent’s experiences and/or interpretation of the phenomenon of forced marriage? Five interviews have been conducted with women who have different interpretations, experiences or knowledge within the phenomenon of forced marriage, such as own experiences, experiences from family members and knowledge from professionals. Radical feministic theory was used for the interpretation of the result. The result shows that the women in the study shared many opinions regarding the consequences, interpretations and experiences connected to the phenomenon such as limited freedom and lack of education and employment opportunities.

Submitted by Maike Costa (maiksebas@gmail.com) on 2017-07-13T14:11:22Z No. of bitstreams: 1 arquivototal.pdf: 902773 bytes, checksum: ecb09fa9acecc8c3fa0d197b7e9bf8a5 (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2017-07-13T14:11:22Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 arquivototal.pdf: 902773 bytes, checksum: ecb09fa9acecc8c3fa0d197b7e9bf8a5 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-09-09 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico - CNPq / The current thesis aimed at understanding the influence of different cultural contexts on honor concerns, human values and personality traits. More specifically, it aimed at developing an explanatory model where personality traits predict human values, and these explain honor concerns, being mediated by the cultural context. The specific goals were to: (1) evaluate the relationship between these constructs; (2) compare the cultural influence of capitals, countryside cities, and Brazilian regions; e (3) develop a cross-cultural comparison between Brazil and New Zealand. For that, three empirical studies were developed, using the following measures: Honor Concerns Scale, Basic Values Survey, and the Big Five Inventory. Study 1 had the goal to map these constructs over the Brazilian context, aiming at knowing how they would behave in different geographical levels of Brazil. For this study, the sample was composed by 7,024 people from 24 states of Brazil (North = 1,479, Northeast = 2.806, Midwest = 958, Southeast = 956, and South = 825). The results point to a good level of cultural variability among the regions for all the constructs, especially regarding the types of honor concerns: family [F (4, 7019) = 41.343, p < .001, η2 partial = .023], social [F (4, 7019) = 6.222, p < .001, η2 partial = .004], feminine [F (4, 7019) = 60.214, p < .001, η2 partial = .033] and masculine [F (4, 7019) = 57.262, p < .001, η2 partial = .032], corroborating the hypothesis that this would be the construct to present more variability. Once the variations and national profiles were designed, Study 2 aimed at evaluating the direct relation between the constructs, with the same sample previously described being used. The results demonstrated a concise explanatory model, where personality served as independent variable, and humans values as the mediator in the explanation of honor in all regions. The free model [Sχ2 (60) 339.95, CFI = .98, TLI = .91, SRMR = .02, RMSEA = .05 (.05 - .06)] and the constrained model [Sχ2 (268) 836.09, CFI = .97, TLI = .96, SRMR = .04, RMSEA = .04 (.03 - .04)] presented satisfactory fit indices. Finally, in Study 3 the goal was to replicate these findings in a cross-cultural level, considering a sample from New Zealand, composed by 196 participants and randomly selected samples from all the regions of Brazil. The results pointed to a significant cultural variability between the countries regarding personality [F (25, 4373) = 5.587, p < .001; Λ Wilks = .89, η2 partial = .023], values [F (30, 5840) = 18.509, p < .001, Λ Wilks = .64, η2 partial = .086] and honor concerns [F (20, 3881) = 12.654, p < .001, Λ Wilks = .81, η2 partial = .051]. Regarding the specific scores, it was observed that the region more similar to New Zealand was the South. Referring to the replication of the model, the free model [Sχ2 (72) 145,82, CFI = .97, TLI = .87, SRMR = .02, RMSEA = .07 (.05 - .09)], the constrained model [Sχ2 (262) 414.09, CFI = .94, TLI = .93, SRMR = .10, RMSEA = .05 (.04 - .06)] and partially constrained [Sχ2 (262) 374.28, CFI = .96, TLI = .94, SRMR = .10, RMSEA = .05 (.03 - .06)] presented satisfactory fit indices. Having said that, it is concluded that the current thesis reached its general goals of demonstrating the importance of culture for personality, values and honor in a national and international context, besides showing the direct relationship between these three constructs.

The present study aims to present an analysis of the influence of the quality of the audit from the results management, about the fees charged by independent auditors in Brazil. During the last decade, the work on the audit fees gained relevance in the Brazilian scenario from the disclosure of the amounts paid to independent auditors, given that the requirement for such information gave only from 2009 through the CVM Instruction 480/2009 of the Comiss?o de Valores Mobili?rios. In this context, the discussion on the audit fees intensifies when the market share of the Big Four companies. Otherwise, it also discusses the quality of the services provided by the big firms, especially in events of financial fraud or improper procedures audit companies, as for example, issuance of opinion without the submission of working papers, which may reveal a flawed criterion of studies to determine the quality of auditing only due to be a Big Four. From the reality found, this research seeks to contribute to an analysis of the cost-benefit of services, monitoring the pricing policies of the auditing firms, in addition to enabling audit firms also to check the amount of fees collected as a function of the quality of service being provided, assisting them in negotiations and maintaining customers. To achieve this goal, the research uses data from Brazilian non-financial companies listed on the BM&FBovespa during the period from 2010 to 2015. Data collection occurred through the Bloomberg? and Reference Forms after tab, are submitted in regression models with panel data. The main analysis variables comprise the audit fees (dependent variable) and audit quality (variable of interest), this obtained through the model KS (1995) earnings management for discretionary accruals. The main results show that cannot infer statistical relationship between audit fees and the audit quality, however demonstrate that an analysis of the size and risk of the audited company are positively related with the fees, as well as the fact that the company be a Big Four.
