Coaching has become a phenomenon of the 21st century. It is considered to be one of the most effective methods of personal and corporate development and the way of communication. When participating in management style, coaching tends to strengthen responsibility, creativity, motivation and power to overcome internal and external barriers obstructing staff improvement. The aim of the thesis is to analyze the use of coaching in hotel chains management. Borders disappearence, free trade and the internationalization process create favorable conditions and new opportunities for expansion of hotel chains, recruitment of international workforce as well as the arrival of large numbers of both domestic and foreign tourists. The society has discovered the extraordinary potential of multicultural teams, but also realizes the threat caused by their improper leading. Nowadays, the managers and directors are forced to work under increasing pressure. Firms and employees requirements are becoming more and more demanding. On one hand, flexibility, independence, expertise and ability to act effectively in crisis situations are needed. On the other hand, ambitions and aspirations of employees themselves are also getting more obvious. The companies already know that a well-chosen leadership styles lead to the attainment of corporate goals and achieve personal and professional staff developement. During the eight-month work placement in one of the leading Spanish hotel chain Iberostar on the Canary Islands was studied approach and management styles on different levels of the organizational structure. Based on observations, structured interviews and the actual involvement in the managerial team work, the study serving as a basis for a final proposal for the application of coaching in this particular chain has been created. Considering the international work environment and multicultural teams, so typical just for tourism industry, the issue of cross-cultural management is also discussed. The previous coaching and intercultural communication studies at Johannes Kepler University in Linz have become the theoretical basis in this area.

O presente estudo objetiva interagir o caráter monumental do Copacabana Palace Hotel com a concepção simbólica da paisagem de entorno a ele associada, fundamentalmente interpondo aquela dita urbana com a que diz respeito à praia e ao mar. Nesse sentido, em um primeiro momento, partiu-se para a abordagem da paisagem na qual se inseriu o hotel, onde sua capacidade subjetiva tornou-se mister não apenas para configurar a expressão monumental do hotel como também, ao interagir com o mesmo, permitiu antever uma série de transformações no trato urbano de Copacabana. Em seguida, foi observada uma análise das formas de representação dos monumentos, intencionais ou não, mas associados a sua expressão monumental em meio às paisagens de entorno. Desse modo, sendo a paisagem notada de subjetividade, verificou-se na simbologia do olhar a constituição de uma leitura para o Copacabana Palace Hotel enquanto obra de caráter monumental. Na subjetividade do olhar também se interpôs a necessidade de compreender como natureza e mito compactuam para constituir novas intenções de uso, como as observadas em Copacabana, tendo como marco maior a construção do hotel. Ao final, observa-se que há interação entre a percepção simbólica da paisagem e a ação dos agentes de transformação do espaço urbano, centrando esta conclusão no marco conferido pelo hotel na antevisão da nova paisagem constituída. / The present study seeks to interact the monumental character of the Copacabana Palace Hotel with the symbolic conception of surrounding landscape with it associated, fundamentally opposing the one of urban origin to the one that concerns the beach and the ocean. In this sense, firstly, its embraced the approach of the landscape in which the hotel was inserted, where its subjective capacity became necessary not only to form the monumental expression of the hotel but also, when interacted with it, permitted to foresee a series of transformations in the urban treatment of Copacabana. Later on, was observed an analysis of the representative forms of the monuments, intentional or not, but associated to their monumental expression in the middle of the surrounding landscapes. This way, being the landscape noted for its subjectivity, was verified in the symbology of the look the constitution of a reading for the Copacabana Palace Hotel while work of monumental character. In the subjectivity of the look was also interposed the necessity of comprehending how nature and myth join forces to constitute new intentions of use, like the ones observed in Copacabana, having, as main mark, the construction of the hotel. At the end, its observed interaction between symbolic perception of landscape and urban space transformers action, focusing this conclusion on the mark conferred by the hotel to the foresight of the new established landscape.

Os elementos intangíveis no processo de criação de valor dentro das empresas vêm ganhando crescente importância nas discussões acadêmicas. Neste sentido, é importante que os administradores identifiquem e gerenciem estes elementos, que são agrupados sob o conceito de capital intelectual (CI) da organização. Este trabalho apresenta um survey realizado com cento e onze hotéis do estado de São Paulo, o qual evidenciou a presença dos elementos do CI conforme os portes dos hotéis (pequeno, médio e grande) e analisou as atitudes dos gestores acerca destes elementos. As informações e os dados foram coletados a partir da aplicação de um questionário estruturado disponível em um site. Os dados foram tratados e analisados estatisticamente e os resultados obtidos evidenciaram como principal diferença de gestão dos hotéis o fato dos hotéis de pequeno porte sustentarem o capital humano como componente de sua estrutura de CI mais consistente, enquanto que nos hotéis de médio porte toda a estrutura está em formação, ao contrário dos hotéis de grande porte, que possuem uma estrutura consistente. / The intangible elements in the process of organizational value creation are gaining increasing importance in the academic quarrels. In this direction, it is important that the administrators identify and manage these elements, which are classified under the concept of intellectual capital (IC) of the organization. This work presents a survey carried through with one hundred and eleven paulistans hotels, which evidenced the presence of the elements of the IC as the size of the hotels (small, medium and large) and to analyzed the attitudes of the managers about of these elements. The information and data had been collected from the application of a structuralized questionnaire available in a website. The data had been treated and analyzed statistically and the results found evidenced as main difference the fact of the small hotels support the capital human as component of its structure of IC more consistent, while that in the medium hotels have carried all the structure is in formation, in contrast of the great hotels, that keep a consistent structure.

Allied to this, society as a whole has become more sensitive to aspects of sustainability of companies charging an ethical attitude towards their customers. In this context, the present work reports a field study, conducted with the Farm Hotels located in the Agreste of Pernambuco region. Aimed to map and analyse the social and environmental responsibility strategies used by hotels surveyed Farm and from there build a model for measuring efficiency through Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and classification by means of the tool ELECTRE TRI. Also, we attempted to collect data to know the perception of guests over sustainable practices Hotels Farm. As a result the ELECTRE TRI allocated each hotel in a range of five ordered categories and it was observed that 50% of the hotels studied were classified into intermediate categories, indicating that integrated sustainability practices in these cases are conducted in incipient form. DEA already generated as a result there is a difference regarding the effectiveness of sustainable hotels, where three had scores of efficiency (100%) and was inefficient. However, no change of scenery when you change the inputs and outputs of the overall assessment. Finally, most of the guests offered to pay more for sustainable service. However, when they are hosted, are less sensitive to aspects of environmental responsibility practiced by Farm Hotels. / O setor de Hotéis-Fazenda é um dos segmentos econômicos mais promissores para exploração da natureza com o mínimo impacto ambiental possível. Aliado a isso, a sociedade como um todo se tornou mais sensível aos aspectos da sustentabilidade, cobrando das empresas uma postura ética perante seus consumidores. Neste contexto, a presente dissertação relata uma pesquisa de campo, realizada junto a seis Hotéis-Fazenda localizados na Região do Agreste de Pernambuco. Objetivou mapear e analisar as estratégias de responsabilidade socioambientais utilizadas pelos Hotéis-Fazenda pesquisados a partir da medição de eficiência através da Análise por Envoltória de Dados (DEA) e classificação por meio da ferramenta ELECTRE TRI. Também, buscou-se coletar dados para saber a percepção dos hóspedes em relação às práticas sustentáveis dos Hotéis-Fazenda. Como resultado, o ELECTRE TRI alocou cada um dos hotéis em um range de cinco categorias ordenadas e observou-se que 50% dos hotéis estudados foram classificados em categorias intermediárias, indicando que as práticas integradas de sustentabilidade nestes casos são conduzidas de forma incipiente. Já DEA gerou como resultado que há diferença em relação à eficiência sustentável dos hotéis, onde três tiveram scores de eficiência (100%) e um foi ineficiente. Entretanto, há modificação de cenário quando se altera os inputs e outputs da avaliação geral. Por fim, a maioria dos hóspedes se propôs pagar mais caro por um serviço sustentável. Porém, quando estão hospedados, são pouco sensíveis aos aspectos da responsabilidade socioambiental praticadas pelos Hotéis – Fazenda.

Após delimitar o universo de aplicativos entre os dez mais baixados, foi utilizado um processo avaliativo baseado na metodologia de Grupo Focal. As questões norteadoras utilizadas foram delimitadas pelos conceitos dos autores Chon e Sparrowe (2003) em contraposição a NBR 13596 (BRASIL, 1995). Após análise das falas obtidas no Grupo Focal, foi possível verificar quais requisitos são considerados mais importantes pelos consumidores de aplicativos que contemplem o setor hoteleiro, bem como verificar quais aspectos desses aplicativos são primordiais para que o usuário consiga de fato utilizá-lo de maneira adequada. / This work is aimed to evaluate the main existing apps in the market for tablets, computers and mobiles, focused on the search for means of accommodation and reservations performing, in order to ascertain which would be the most relevant aspects for its choice, use and display. After defining the ten most downloaded among the universe of applications, it was used an evaluation process based on focus group methodology. The guiding questions used were defined by the concepts of authors Chon and Sparrowe (2003) against NBR 13596 (BRASIL, 1995). After analyzing the replies obtained from the focus group, it was possible to verify which requirements are considered more important by consumers in applications that include the hotel industry, as well as to determine which aspects of these applications are essential so that the user can actually use them properly.

The contributions of the hotel and restaurant schools to the hospitality industry

The purpose of this study was to investigate the opinions of leaders in the hospitality industry about the contributions which had been made by the hospitality schools. These contributions were specified in the topics of accounting, finance, merketing, merchandising, planning, supervising, system analysis, architecture, engineering, and interior design. Fifty-six questionnaires were sent to the personnel of hotel and food service companies. A high percentage of respondents believed that the schools had made no contribution in accounting, finance, marketing, merchandising, planning, and supervising. The major problems were that the schools did not provide enough emphasis on the subjects and students' practical experience. In addition, there were a low percentage of responses to the topics of architecture, engineering, and interior design. Consequently, those contributions could not be difined because of lack of information.

The aim of the thesis is to determine influence of social media and hotel review sites on quality of services of Louren Hotel **** in Prague and their major role in the marketing activities of the hotel. The first part deals with these media in general, their benefits, potential risks and advice, how to use them in practice. The second part examines the use of these media in selected hotel. Research of perception of hotel review sites amoung costumers of Hotel Louren is also part of the work. The research was processed on the basis of a questionnaire survey. The aim of the investigation was to determine whether the hotel guests follow reviews and what meaning it has for them. This work shows a position of social media and review sites in the current hotel marketing and their possible impact on the improvement of services in the hotel.
