Human Competencies of an Effective Project Manager : The role of the Professional Bodies of Knowledge and Formal Education Providers in the development of soft skillsBallesteros, Ana Karen, Chavarria, Federico January 2016 (has links)
The determination of the elements that lead to project success is currently a major topic among the project management community. The role of the project manager and the influence it has on the overall results of the project has become a focus point for researchers, practitioners, and academics. The attempts that have been made to identify the characteristics and competencies of effective project managers has led to the acknowledgment that there is a need for a different set of competencies than those purely technical. The human and leadership skills of a project manager play an important role in the outcome of projects; therefore, it is important for these competencies to be taught and developed as part of project management education. Thus, this study aims to contribute to the understanding of the human competencies needed by effective project managers today and the extent to which project management bodies of knowledge, as well as formal education programs encourage the development and practice of such competencies. The research was carried out using a mix-method approach. Primary data was collected through semi-structured interviews with professors teaching different subjects within project management education programs. Secondary data was obtained from a thorough review of the main project management bodies of knowledge and project management postgraduate programs offered by accredited universities in the UK. The findings of this thesis suggest that there is a clear need for the development of the human side of project management, and that although there is no definite set of competencies for effective project managers, there are some key skills essential to those in the pursuit of success. Project management associations have shown an important change in their BOKs regarding the inclusion of topics on the human aspect of the practice from one edition to another. Moreover, as universities recognize the need to promote the development of human and leadership skills there is an opportunity to narrow the gap between the human topics covered within the programs and the methods used to teach them. However, the current role of both the BOKs and education providers is still only to create awareness on the topic rather than show and explain the use and techniques for different human skills in particular situations. Among the most suitable and effective methods for developing such competencies is the encouragement of team work, soft skills trainings, coaching and self-reflection exercises. Ultimately, it is the combined effort of the project management associations, universities, researches and practitioners themselves that will enhance the development and practice of human and leadership competencies within the project manager’s role nowadays.

Institucionální rovnováha v redistribučních systémech / Institutional equilibrium in redistribution systemsWawrosz, Petr January 2012 (has links)
The topic of this thesis is institutional equilibrium, its formation and disruption in human systems. The thesis analyses what is common to the most human systems and concludes that it is some kind of redistribution. That is reason for the thesis title "Institutional equilibrium in redistribution systems". As the term institutional equilibrium comes from institutional economics, the thesis begins with characteristic institutional economy and its differences form mainstream economy, defines the term institution and methodological institutionalism and explains the reasons of institution evolution. Then, the problematic of redistribution is analyzed. The thesis brings a general model of a redistribution system and describes a coalition forming in it. The thesis concludes that such a process must be facilitated and regulated by institutions and that institutions define the negotiation strength of the players and stabilize their position. In a fourth chapter, the term of institutional equilibrium is defined and its preconditions and consequences are described. Factors preventing the redistribution system from reaching the equilibrium are shown. The analysis of institutional equilibrium formation follows; the open and closed systems are addressed separately, with the emphasis being put on open systems. In open systems, the creative destruction process in ever-present, disrupting the institutional equilibrium. Therefore, a question is posed: may there be such a structure of institutions which will stay unchanged despite the ongoing exogenous changes? Or, more precisely, the change of which will not be in the interest of the players? The thesis finds that the preconditions for institutions system facilitating the institutional equilibrium are investments into skills of the players and the open access into the system. The thesis also shows that such preconditions help to reduce undesirable redistribution. The fifth chapter analyses parallel redistribution games as one of the specific way of disturbing institutional equilibrium. The parallel redistribution games have secret character; their players do not want the other players to know about their game, because their game breaches the norms of the majority of players. The parallel redistribution games may be characterized as a form of opportunistic behavior. The thesis investigates the causes of these games, the reasons why they remain uncovered and the strategies of their players. Eventually, the conditions under which the parallel games may be reduced are formulated. The institutions must fulfill these conditions as well. In the end, the institutions structure capable of introducing the redistribution system into the institutional equilibrium state is defined.

Viktiga kompetenser och förmågor inom Big Data analytics och dess effektivitet på marknadsföring : En kvalitativ studie om Big Data analytics inom köksbranschen / Important skills and abilities in Big Data analytics and its effectiveness on marketing : A qualitative study on Big Data analytics in the kitchen industryHagberg, Jonatan, Russell, Philip, Larsson, Emil January 2023 (has links)
Nyckelord: Big Data analytics, effektivare marknadsföring, kompetenser, Big Data analytics förmågor, dynamiska förmågor, marknadsrelaterade förmågor, materiella resurser, immateriella resurser, mänskliga förmågor / Summary Big Data analytics is a fascinating process that highlights the ability to extract profound insights and draw conclusions from large amounts of data. Its applications span across various industries and domains, including the kitchen industry and marketing, which this study focuses on. However, harnessing the power of Big Data analytics to understand consumer behavior and preferences can be challenging. Nevertheless, when companies provide the right resources, they can effectively optimize their marketing strategies. This study aimed to explore the specific competencies and skills that companies need to successfully handle large volumes of data, as well as how Big Data analytics can contribute to more efficient marketing in the kitchen industry. Employing an inductive research approach and conducting semi-structured interviews with four companies in the Swedish kitchen industry, the findings were linked to a theoretical framework to analyze the data and identify competencies, skills, and effects within Big Data analytics. The results underscored the importance of various competencies such as technical knowledge, data visualization, machine learning, marketing expertise, creative thinking, leadership, and communication in achieving success in Big Data analytics. The study also emphasized the crucial significance of collecting high-quality data, integrating tools, and utilizing insights to optimize marketing strategies within the kitchen industry. As a suggestion for future research, this study highlights the need to examine organizational and cultural factors that impact the potential of Big Data analytics. Additionally, it is proposed that future research should explore other industries and their specific requirements regarding Big Data analytics, thereby broadening the understanding in this field.

Understanding how to foster these skills in working professionals has implications for education, business, and governments around the world. The problem addressed by this study supported both practical challenges and research limitations to fills gaps in existing research while expanding the understanding of growth mindset, interest in AI, and innovative thinking to support addressing the shortage of working professionals with innovative thinking skills. These are often called durable skills, required to compete in the rapidly changing global marketplace and to ensure long-term employability. Thinking skills such as flexibility, creativity, and innovation are attracting global attention as leaders face international competition and rapid technological change.

The purpose of this study was twofold: (a) to explore if growth mindset is related to innovative thinking in working professionals, and (b) to explore whether a growth interest in artificial intelligence impacts innovative thinking in working professionals. An exploratory research field study of working professionals participated in the research. Participants were recruited via LinkedIn. A total of 298 responses were included in the analysis. A weak positive correlation, though not significant (p=.05) was found for growth mindset and innovative thinking. The strongest, significant relationship found a moderate positive correlation between interest in AI and innovative thinking. Another significant finding was that individuals with a high interest in AI generally ranked higher in innovative thinking than those with a solely a high growth mindset or low in both. Individuals high in both had the highest overall innovative thinking.

This study provides researchers and practitioners with a new understanding of innovative thinking, growth mindset, and interest in AI in working professionals while contributing to research literature topics, including leadership, human resource development, business, talent management, psychology, and technology. It has practical implications in teaching and learning and skills development of working professionals in business. Applying a survey tool that could be used in the workplace in 10 minutes, a practical, cost and time-effective tool has been demonstrated to provide valuable individual insights on innovative thinking and mindset. Further, as organizations strive to improve competitiveness and integrate artificial intelligence, this study found that individuals with growth mindset and growth interest specifically in AI demonstrated higher innovative thinking scores than those low in both, suggesting that growth mindsets matter in innovative thinking - a component vital for long-term employability and global competitiveness - and may offer insights into future hiring. One of the fundamental aspects of using GenAI is the ability to formulate solid questions and be willing to experiment. These are two critical aspects of innovative thinking. This study found that questioning had the strongest significant positive correlation with a growth mindset while experimenting had the strongest significant positive correlation with growth interest in AI.
