Sustainable Entrepreneurship : idolization and pitfalls

Källén, Lovisa January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this research study is to focus on the idolization and pitfalls of sustainable entrepreneurship, the study aims to highlight the challenges, gaps, and key barriers that hinder sustainable entrepreneurship in start-ups and small enterprises (SSEs). Examine the idolization of sustainable entrepreneurship and its potential implications on entrepreneurial decision-making and risk perception. METHODOLOGY: The thesis is based on a mixed research method centred around Drivhuset Borås collected data over the span of 7,5 years, whereas the last two years includes evaluations on sustainable entrepreneurship. The collected data is collected from the company’s operating reports between the year 2016 and 2022, as well as from their in-house material, such as lecture material. Since the operating report for 2023 still is in progress the researcher was able to get access to the collected statistics for January to April 2023. FINDINGS: This study provides examples of the impact key barriers and challenges faced by the start-ups and small enterprises have for effect. It has become obvious that, even though organisations such as Drivhuset Borås aim to educate and counsel individuals, the barriers and challenges are a persisting problem. There is a significant amount of research on business sustainability, which covers topics connected to the social, economic and environmental aspects of sustainability.

He's so dreamy, she's so beautiful: celebrities, the representation of (pre-)adolescent femininity in M, and self-perception

Campbell, Jennifer Ann Elizabeth 30 April 2008 (has links)
In this thesis, I critique the representation of pre-adolescent and teen femininity in M and the influence of the teen fan genre on identity development. This discussion revolves around a social semiotic analysis of four texts and two sub-texts, and a social semiotic auto-ethnographic exploration of my experience as a reader of teen fan publications. Among the texts, a feminine identity is represented through eight interlocking semiotic themes: fashion and beauty, celebrity idolization, entertainment, consumerism, heterosexuality/romance, friendship, celebrity as occupation, and affluent lifestyle. My research findings show that the portrayal of femininity in M is a narrow and unrealistic ideal. Conveyed through celebrity worship, femininity is a highly (hetero)sexualized, racialized, thin, able-bodied, affluent, mass-mediated, and (self-)commodified ideal that perpetuates age ambiguity As the discussion of my adolescence shows, the representation of femininity in the teen fan genre can thwart creativity and contribute to a negative self-concept. Finally, teen fan magazines were important in assisting in the creation of a (pre-)adolescent feminine self, but it was only one institution in which my identity formed. My self-concept emerged from social regulation via the interconnected relationship among teen fan magazines, mall and school cultures, and family.

The Sidney Effect: Competitive Youth Hockey and Fantasy Relationships

Theoret, Matthew John Ross January 2009 (has links)
This thesis explores how a group of 17 male youth athletes, and their families, experience competitive hockey. Many of the youths seem to forge fantasy relationships with hockey celebrities, heroes, and stars -- e.g. Sidney Crosby -- emulating them with regard to the "best" attitudes, equipment, and styles of play to have or use. Their parents invest considerable amounts of money and time into their sons' participation in hockey, not because they necessarily share their sons' dreams of athletic stardom, but because they hope that it will help instill community-defined "positive" values into their sons--tools needed to become "successful" youths and, eventually, adults.

Kuo, Chih-Chun Unknown Date (has links)

Women’s security through heterosexual marriage in the Democratic Republic of the Congo: an African woman’s reading of the book of Ruth

Kondemo, Marthe Maleke 01 1900 (has links)
In Congolese society, heterosexual marriage is a highly regarded institution that is viewed as contributing significantly to the true identities of women. In this study, I use Masenya’s terminologies, “idolization of marriage” and “marriage at all costs”, as springboards to re-read the story of Ruth in the Hebrew Bible in light of the experiences of Congolese women who tend to regard marriage as a norm. I have analysed and critiqued patriarchy as it has shaped the lives of biblical women (cf the Ruth character in the Hebrew Bible) as well as it continues to shape the lives of many Congolese women. Although in some sense, the Ruth character can be emulated in terms of her sense of independence, in terms of her commitment to seeking marriage at all costs though, Ruth, cannot be a helpful model to the lives of many poor Anamongo women who today trapped in poverty, continue to regard heterosexual marriage as the norm in their search for survival, security, and value. / Old Testament and Ancient Near Eastern Studies / M. Th. (Old Testament)
