The Information Integration Cognitive Analysis of Southern Taiwanese students to study in Mainland China.

Liu, Wei-Chi 21 April 2012 (has links)
This study is based on information integration theory (IIT) .First, we use general questionnaire to find out the influence the choice of attending school factors, then analysis these factors into the information integration theory experiments which, from the psychological cognitive process to explore the knowledge and judgment of the southern Taiwanese students studying to the mainland China. According to the general questionnaire for students, parents and teachers. The results of three groups to be substituted into the information integration experiment. Otherwise, understanding the current educational environment for these three groups of objects survey is very important. The IIT experiment is for 50 students who are lived in Southern Taiwan, the factor derived in accordance with the general questionnaire is divided into "school assessment" and "social conditions", and these two oriented survey in the southern students' cognitive structure to the mainland China, integrated model, as well as the willingness of study in mainland China. The results are as follows: 1. Among the general survey results, most students and parents still do not have much intention to visit the mainland to study, but in the teachers, most teachers are willing to recommend students to the Chinese mainland to school and stay in mainland China. 2. From the analysis of 50 samples of information integration experiment, the first we use FM # 1 to get the result. Only 21 samples belonged to the average mode, then 21 samples use software AVERAGE weight and psychological value, most of the students in the choice of school at the same time, the school assessment is more important than the social conditions. There are 9 students care about the social conditions most.

Fairness Measurement and Cross-domain Analysis on Stakeholders' Perspectives with Development Difference Between Southern and Northern Taiwan: A Comparative Study of Cijin Seaside Park and Tamshi Fishers¡¦ Wharf

Huang, Yu-tien 18 June 2012 (has links)
Public policies in a pluralistic society should be able to clarify and cope with the complicated nature of public issues dominated by ¡§multiple parties, multiple values, and subjective judgment.¡¨ (Farkas & Anderson, 1974) Therefore, instead of merely concluding with the outcome, we should also take input into account when evaluating resource allocation or assessing policy effectiveness. In addition, since the public and the government differ in their judgment criteria and indicators, and multiple parties also have different understandings, the controversy of ¡§inequity¡¨ thus arises. In short, to conduct fairness measurement, we should focus on defining the parties as well as the input and outcome indicators. This research adopted the Public Affairs Management framework to analyze Cijin Seaside Park in Kaohsiung City and Tamshi Fishers¡¦ Wharf in New Taipei City. We have conducted a fairness measurement and cross-domain analysis to explore the equity perception in three aspects: economic equity, social fairness, and procedure justice. Moreover, we conducted a secondary data analysis, analyzed expert interviews, and generalized the carrier condition and factual judgment of the PAM framework. Furthermore, we explored the value judgment and interpersonal judgment in PAM framework with fairness measurement of the information integration theory. Our theory is based on the equity rule proposed by Anderson, which also emphasizes the individual and interpersonal comparison of individual input and outcome. Our results are demonstrated as follows: 1. In the individual value analysis of economic equity, both Cijin Seaside Park and Tamshi Fishers¡¦ Wharf have over 10 local stores and tourists that fits one-factor rule of the tourist number factor. 2. In the individual value analysis of social fairness, Cijin Seaside Park has 10 local stores that support one-factor rule of the public support factor. However, Cijin Seaside Park has over eight tourists that fit the adding rule of public support factor and actual request factor, whereas Tamshi Fishers¡¦ Wharf has over eight local stores and tourists that fit the same rule. 3. In individual value analysis of procedure justice, both Cijin Seaside Park and Tamshi Fishers¡¦ Wharf have over 14 local stores and tourists that fit the unequal-weight averaging rule of policy support factor and administrative cooperation factor. 4. In interpersonal comparison of economic equity, the experimental result shows that the local stores and tourists in both Cijin Seaside Park and Tamshi Fishers¡¦ Wharf fit the unequal-weight averaging rule of the integration of their tourist number factors. Also, the local stores and tourists in both Cijin Seaside Park and Tamshi Fishers¡¦ Wharf fit the unequal-weight averaging rule of the integration of their revenue (consumption) factors. Moreover, the local stores and tourists in both Cijin Seaside Park and Tamshi Fishers¡¦ Wharf both fit the adding rule of their respective tourist number factor and revenue (consumption) factor. This result also supports the ¡§rule of inequity integration.¡¨ 5. In interpersonal comparison of social fairness, the local stores in both Cijin Seaside Park and Tamshi Fishers¡¦ Wharf fit the unequal-weight averaging rule of the public support factor. They also fit the unequal-weight averaging rule of the actual request factor. As for the tourists, those in both two places fit the unequal-weight averaging rule of the public support factor. Also, they fit the unequal-weight averaging rule of the actual request factor. 6. In interpersonal comparison of procedure justice, the local stores in both Cijin Seaside Park and Tamshi Fishers¡¦ Wharf fit the unequal-weight averaging rule of policy support factor. They also fit the unequal-weight averaging rule of the administrative cooperation factor. As for the tourists, those in both Cijin Seaside Park and Tamshi Fishers¡¦ Wharf fit the unequal-weight averaging rule of policy support factor. Also, they fit the unequal-weight averaging rule of the administrative cooperation factor. We continued to conduct a cross-domain analysis to integrate the above research results, as well as the results of secondary data analysis and expert interviews. As a result, we thereby propose related suggestions and generalize the operation steps of fairness measurement.

The Construction and Review of Citizen Governance and Cross-Domain Analysis

Liu, Shu-yu 19 August 2012 (has links)
This study investigates how the public forum cognition of citizen affect their intension to attend public forum given researching methods of Public Affairs Management Integrated Reference Framework (PAM) and Social Development Matrix(SDM). Based on PAM, we analysed the meaning of citizen governance and the role of citizen through real events, and discussed the cognition and psychological weights of our citizen to participate public forums. Through the analysis methods of literatures, this study summarized three factors that proposed by Ostrom(1990) - Institution, Commitment and Supervision, and then sequentially made the standard measurement divided into two levels by fair/unfair, high/low and valid/invalid. In this study, we focused on citizens who had participated in interactive management and chose Information Integration Theory (IIT) as our research method. Our research discussed that psychological weights of Institution, Commitment and Supervision, which defined three explanatory variables to estimate the public forum consciousness of citizens. By using SPSS and AVERAGE software, we computed the psychological weights of three factors and understood the attitudes of citizens toward public forum, furthermore, we compared the differences among the weights and offered suggestion and strategies of citizen governing in the future. The results are as following: 1. Compared to participants from traditional conservative society, our participants from highly developed multi-cultural society are more willing to attend public forums. 2. Participants of different backgrounds assess sequentially the importance of three factors by Supervision, Institution and Commitment. 3. Our results showed that the integrated information patterns(model) are all unequal weighted average pattern(model). 4. All three factors of our research are significant on dependent variable in main effects, two-factor interaction and three-factor interaction.

Different Classes of Kaohsiung Citizen' s Cognitive Analysis of City' s Overall Development and Direct Cross- Strait Link

Chiu, Ching-Jung 13 July 2007 (has links)
According to the literature on the subject and PAM framework (Ming-shen Wang, 2006), the cognition of the citizen of Kaohsiung in Kaohsiung development and direct cross- strait link could be influenced by three factors: the factor of economic development, the factor of social development, the factor of political development. The study applied category estimation and information integration theory (Anderson, 1996) to treat the citizen of Kaohsiung' s cognition structure, integration function, cognitive algebra, estimate etc. in Kaohsiung development and direct cross- strait link. The main research method in this study is information integration theory. It can figure the internal process of how individuals deal with a series of variables out, including valuation function, integration function and response function. And integration function is the key of information integration theory. Many researches of information integration theory mentioned that people always make use of simple cognitive algebra to integrate information, as adding rule, multiplying rule and averaging rule. The research result in this study is shown as below: 1. Although the middle and bottom classes in Kaohsiung considered that if opening direct cross- strait link, it can make economic development better, most people thought that it could make social development and political development worse. So they tend to oppose direct cross- strait link. 2. Most white-collar classes in Kaohsiung (including industrial circle, political circle, academic circle, grass-roots circle and mass media circle) considered that if opening direct cross- strait link, it can make economic development, social development and political development better. So they tend to assist direct cross- strait link. 3. In group analysis, the information integration of the industrial circle in " acceptive situation of Kaohsiung development" is different-weight averaging model. They pay much attention to economic development. 4. In group analysis, the information integration of the political circle in " acceptive situation of Kaohsiung development" is different-weight averaging model. They pay much attention to economic development. 5. In group analysis, the information integration of the academic circle in " acceptive situation of Kaohsiung development" is different-weight averaging model. They pay much attention to economic development. 6. In group analysis, the information integration of the grass-roots circle in " acceptive situation of Kaohsiung development" is different-weight averaging model. They pay much attention to social development. 7. In group analysis, the information integration of the mass media circle in " acceptive situation of Kaohsiung development" is different-weight averaging model. They pay much attention to economic development. 8. In individual analysis, 60% people pay much attention to economic development, 22% people pay much attention to social development, and 18% people pay much attention to political development.

The Comparison between EU's "Common and Foreign Seurity Policy" Integrated Negotiation Process and Cross-strait Negotiation Experience.

Chang, Hui-Ling 26 May 2003 (has links)
After experiencing World War ¢¹and ¢º, the European countries recognized that to prevent war on Europe was of necessary. They would like to inspire economic development by economic integration, and furthermore, to push Europe back to the key actor of world politics through political integration. From ¡§European Common Market¡¨, ¡§European Community¡¨ to ¡§European Union¡¨, the European countries has gone through many complex negotiations. Among the regimes in European Union, ¡§Common Foreign and Security Policy¡¨ works through ¡§Intergovernmental Cooperation¡¨, which is of much higher political meaning. It symbolizes the operation of integration theory has strode from economic to political matters. The operations of CFSP have two important contributions to Europe. First of all, it contributed to the reconciliation of European nations. Second, it demonstrates peace can be achieved through legal and institutional negations without threatening the existing political authorities. Both China and Taiwan can take lessons in the CFSP¡¦s negotiation process, especially in the aspects of how to leave aside disputes and put aside minor differences so as to seek common ground. President Chen Shui-Bian gave a talk on 31 December 2000 which indicated that the Cross-strait relation could learn from EU¡¦s integration experience and jointly seek for new framework of political integration. It could start from economic and cultural integration, build confidence step by step, and look for new framework for political integration. This kind of opinion conforms to international development experience. What norms of EU¡¦s experience should the Cross-strait refer to is the main topic of this research. How do EU¡¦s institutions make compromise between ¡§national interest¡¨ and ¡§EU¡¦s development¡¨ is another concerning point of the research.

GETTING TO 40 WEEKS: CONSTRUCTING THE UNCERTAINTY OF DUE DATES

Vos, Sarah Cornelia 01 January 2012 (has links)
In the United States as many as 15% of births occur before 39 weeks because of elective inductions or cesarean sections. This qualitative study employs a grounded theory approach to understand the decisions women make of how and when to give birth. Thirty-three women who were pregnant or had given birth within the past two years participated in key informant or small group interviews. The women’s birth narratives and reflections reveal how they construct the uncertainty of their due dates and how this construction influences their birth decisions. Problematic integration theory is used to analyze this construction and identify points of influence. The results suggest that women construct the uncertainty of due dates as a reason to wait on birth and as a reason to start the process early. The results suggest that information about a baby’s brain development in the final weeks of pregnancy may persuade women to remain pregnant longer. The results demonstrate the utility of using problematic integration theory to understand a medical situation that is the result of epistemological and ontological uncertainty. The analysis suggests the existence of a third type of uncertainty, axiological uncertainty. Axiological uncertainty is rooted in the values and ethics of outcomes.

A Qualitative Inquiry into Indonesian Women's Breastfeeding Decision-Making

Johnson, Nicole Lynn 09 1900 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / Despite the World Health Organization’s longstanding guidelines encouraging exclusive breastfeeding, less than half of babies are breastfed exclusively in Indonesia, a country experiencing a disproportionately high infant mortality rate believed to be related to inadequate access to clean water and health care. Questions remain concerning women’s decision-making about infant feeding, and we know very little about Indonesian women’s decisions and behaviors regarding breastfeeding. The current research explored Indonesian women’s perceptions about their communication with their support persons as they contemplated the best and most appropriate way to feed their infants. During two trips to Indonesia in 2018, semi-structured qualitative interviews and focus groups were conducted with 84 mothers and 36 breastfeeding support persons including spouses, their infants’ grandmothers, midwives, and lactation consultants on Java, Bali, and Flores Islands. Using the constant comparative method, results revealed infants’ grandmothers and fathers as primary sources of breastfeeding support for mothers. Notably, despite their prominence, grandmothers and fathers were not always perceived to be effective sources of support; rather, mothers often described experiencing support that was unwanted or ineffective. Commonly mothers described a grandmother’s attempted support as being couched in criticism or guided by myths, and a father’s ineffective support as the result of lack of knowledge. Conflict with grandmothers was especially problematic given cultural expectations regarding elders. Findings are discussed in the context of Problematic Integration Theory, a general theory that describes the role of communication in experiencing and managing tensions between expectations and desires. Specifically, findings revealed that breastfeeding challenges fundamentally involve negotiating these dilemmas, which are co-created, exacerbated, transformed, and managed through communication between mothers and their support persons. This study demonstrates the centrality of communication in breastfeeding decision-making, highlights the role of grandmothers and fathers in breastfeeding promotion, and emphasizes the importance of informed social support for new mothers. / 2021-10-01
