A qualitative study concerning female consumers’ relationship towards sustainability based on the use phase and disposal of clothing

Zhu, Yangyi, Jonsson, Sara, Hagström, Malin January 2021 (has links)
Clothing are material intensive products that in today’s society are consumed at a rapid pace, which has contributed to a great environmental concern for the clothing industry when it comes to producing, distributing and maintaining clothes. In order to create a more sustainable clothing industry, the life span of already produced clothing needs to be longer. An empirical gap was identified within the field of wardrobe practice and clothing utilization among Swedish consumers. The purpose of this study was to investigate the use phase of female consumers’ clothing and to identify different factors that can have an impact on the life span of the clothes and the decision of disposal. The empirical data was collected through 15 semi-structured interviews with a sample of female consumers aged between 25 and 35. A compilation of the collected data was carried out with thematic coding, where common themes were identified. The findings of this study showed that the use phase of clothing in various ways are affected by regretted clothing purchases, symbolic obsolescence and emotional attachment. At the stage of disposal, the study revealed that the same consumer can choose different methods, where some of them are considered more sustainable and others cause a greater environmental impact. Based on the empirical data, it was possible to demonstrate that consumers’ relationship towards sustainability is contradictory on many levels, with a tendency to identify a gap between consumers’ positive attitude towards sustainability and their actual behaviour. Furthermore, the findings showed that consumers tend to reflect more on sustainability when making a clothing purchase and during the disposal phase rather than the use phase of clothing.

It's (not) just a game : En kvalitativ studie om spelares känslomässiga anknytning till spelkaraktärer / It's (not) just a game : A qualitative study about gamers emotional attachment to game characters

Konradsson, Emilia, Finnerman, Unni, Eriksson, Terese January 2024 (has links)
In today's digital society, digital games have become an increasingly integrated part of people's lives, offering entertainment, excitement, and new challenges. Games provide a playground where players can explore virtual environments and stories, forming emotional connections with characters akin to real-life relationships. Research has shown that men and women appreciate different aspects of games, with men often motivated by competition and achievement, while women tend to favor social aspects. Understanding how players of different genders emotionally connect with game characters is crucial for game developers to create immersive experiences for all players. This study aims to show differences and similarities in how players of different genders form emotional attachments to characters in digital games and how these attachments contribute to the gaming experience. Through qualitative interviews, factors influencing emotional attachment were explored, revealing similarities between genders. Findings from our study suggest that both genders value aspects like character depth, appearance, and realism in forming emotional bonds with game characters. The study contributes insights for game designers to craft characters that resonate emotionally with players, emphasizing the importance of creating characters that feel human and players can emotionally relate to. By understanding and incorporating these factors, game developers can enhance player engagement and motivation, fostering deeper emotional connections and enriching the gaming experience.

Can organizational commitment to the workplace be a predictor of perceived stress?

Finnson, Annika, Lindberg, Frida January 2020 (has links)
Sick leave due to stress-related problems has increased in recent years and the number of sick leave days varies between women and men. Previous research has shown that employees with high organizational commitment had a stronger desire to practice greater work efforts and efforts on behalf of the organization. However, there was a risk that the employee made such an effort that it affected the recovery, which in turn could lead to stress-related illnesses. Studies on work-related stress occur to a large extent, however, few studies have done research on the correlations between organizational commitment and work-related stress. A quantitative study was conducted to answer the research questions; data collection was done through both online- and paper questionnaires with a total of 25 items. The survey was designed by two established questionnaires; Organizational Commitment Questionnaire (OCQ) and Perceived Stress Scale 10-items (PSS) that were intended to measure workplace engagement and work-related stress. A total of 233 people participated in the study (M = 24.9 years, SD = 10.2 years, range of ages 18-68 years, 63% women). The variables showed a normal distribution and therefore a simple linear regression was conducted. The results showed a negative statistically significant correlation between commitment and stress for women, but not for men. Engagement levels can to a greater extent predict stress levels in women than in men.
