Weapon Detection In Surveillance Camera Images

Now a days, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras are installedeverywhere in public places to monitor illegal activities like armedrobberies. Mostly CCTV footages are used as post evidence after theoccurrence of crime. In many cases a person might be monitoringthe scene from CCTV but the attention can easily drift on prolongedobservation. Eciency of CCTV surveillance can be improved by in-corporation of image processing and object detection algorithms intomonitoring process.The object detection algorithms, previously implemented in CCTVvideo analysis detect pedestrians, animals and vehicles. These algo-rithms can be extended further to detect a person holding weaponslike rearms or sharp objects like knives in public or restricted places.In this work the detection of weapon from CCTV frame is acquiredby using Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) as feature vector andarticial neural networks performing back-propagation algorithm forclassication.As a weapon in the hands of a human is considered to be greaterthreat as compared to a weapon alone, in this work the detection ofhuman in an image prior to a weapon detection has been found advan-tageous. Weapon detection has been performed using three methods.In the rst method, the weapon in the image is detected directly with-out human detection. Second and third methods use HOG and back-ground subtraction methods for detection of human prior to detectionof a weapon. A knife and a gun are considered as weapons of inter-est in this work. The performance of the proposed detection methodswas analysed on test image dataset containing knives, guns and im-ages without weapon. The accuracy rate 84:6% has been achievedby a single-class classier for knife detection. A gun and a knife havebeen detected by the three-class classier with an accuracy rate 83:0%.

Determination of the effective volume of a detector

<p>A method to establish the boundaries of the sensitive volume for a chosen detector to within 50µm (as specified by Elekta Instuments AB) was investigated and is presented in this project. The detector studied was fixed to a positioning system with possibility to move with sub micrometer increments, and scanned in a narrow photon field. The detectors used for the experiment were silicon diodes and a pair of diamond detectors. The silicon diodes showed great promise for future study; two radiotherapy silicon diodes and one electrical component silicon diode were used. The electrical component silicon diode produced a surprisingly sharp dose profile compared with the medical silicon diodes. The diamond detectors gave no stable results at all.</p><p>As a radiation source 60Co proved most feasible, but a diagnostic x-ray source was also tested as well as a 99mTc source. These radiation sources were also examined with a modified Penelope code, i.e. Monte Carlo simulations. What became very obvious with the Monte Carlo simulations was the importance of the line up, which was never satisfactory.</p><p>To limit the sensitive volume of these detectors to within the desired boundaries showed great difficulty and was not achieved in this project.</p>

The aim of this research is to analyse how adaptation / standardisation, trust and network development counter the challenges created by intangibility and heterogeneity of service in the case of Philippine Gamma Knife Incorporated. This research used qualitative data that were gathered through unstructured interviews, direct observation and documents. The adaptation / standardisation, trust and network facilitate service visibility and decrease heterogeneity of a health care service. Among the variables adaptation / standardisation signifies an important role; however, trust manifestation was concluded more significant compared to network in a cultural environment such as that found in the Philippines. Moreover, culture was found to be an important role in the development of adaptation / standardisation, trust and network processes.

ABSTRACT Title: Services Marketing in a Cross-Cultural Environment – The Case of Elekta in Russia Level: Final assignment for Master Degree in Business Administration Authors: Alena Bazyleva and Maria Zaytseva Supervisor: Dr. Maria Fregidou-Malama Aim: The aim of this research is to investigate how the products and services of the Swedish company Elekta are marketed in Russia, a country with cultural environment different from Sweden. For this purpose such aspects of marketing strategy as adaptation/standardization, trust and network development, which help to decrease the influence of intangibility and heterogeneity of services, are examined. Method: In present research explanatory applied type of study was used to describe services marketing process. Combination of induction and deduction methods, and qualitative methods of research were used. Case study of Swedish company Elekta was chosen as the research area. Primary data was collected through survey by means of semi-structured interviews and open questionnaires. Secondary data was collected from sources such as relevant books, scientific articles, company brochure, and websites of company and its clients. Results and conclusion: The research reveals that trust, network building, balance of adaptation and standardization strategies, employed by Elekta company, help to overcome heterogeneity and intangibility of its services in Russian market. It has also been found that the image of Sweden as a country of origin plays an important role in trust establishment in Russia, but in a sense that it is a foreign country, not Sweden in particular. Moreover, it is suggested, that organizational structure of international company, matrix structure in this particular case study, favours the development and effectiveness of the discussed variables. In spite of such characteristics of Russian market as high bureaucracy, corruption, “blat” network, unstable laws, etc., this market is considered to be a promising emerging market for international business. Russian national culture displays large power distance, high uncertainty avoidance, collectivist and feminine values, which influence the whole society and the business sphere as well. Suggestions for future research: It would be beneficial for future research to expand the range of complementing studies, examining the cases of Elekta in different countries and emerging markets in particular. In addition, in order to develop international services marketing theory, it is necessary to include other services industries in the scope of research. Furthermore, getting feedback from the patients, who experienced treatment on Elekta equipment, can contribute to the future research. Contribution of the thesis: The modification and adaptation of the theoretical framework of Fregidou-Malama and Hyder (2011) made by authors of this study contributes to the theory of international services marketing process. In addition, as there is lack of research in this area for health care sector, this study can be valuable addition to this research area. Research of the case of Elekta in Russia complements the range of studies on international services marketing process in health care sector with the cases of Elekta company in different countries: Egypt, China, the Philippines, Brazil, Hong Kong. Besides, current research has certain practical value: it is beneficial for international companies expanding into emerging markets in general and in Russian market in particular. This research may help to increase awareness about Elekta treatment solutions. Knife-Edge Scanning Microscope Mouse Brain Atlas In Vector Graphics For Enhanced Performance

The microstructure of the brain at the cellular level provides crucial information for the understanding of the function of the brain. A large volume of high-resolution brain image data from 3D microscopy is an essential resource to study detailed microstructures of the brain. Accordingly, we have worked on obtaining high-resolution image data of entire mouse brains using the Knife-Edge Scanning Microscope (KESM). Furthermore, to disseminate these high-resolution whole mouse brain data sets to the neuroscience research community, we developed a web-based brain atlas, the KESM Brain Atlas (KESMBA). To visualize the data sets in 3D while using only a standard web browser, we employed distance attenuation and Google Maps API. The KESMBA is a powerful tool to analyze and share the KESM mouse brain data sets, but the image loading was slow because of the number of raster image (PNG) tiles and the file size. Moreover, since Google Maps API is governed by a commercial license, it does not provide enough flexibility for customization, extension, and mirroring. To solve these issues, we designed and developed a new KESM mouse brain atlas that uses a vector graphics format called Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) instead of PNG, and OpenLayers API instead of Google Maps API. The SVG-based KESMBA using OpenLayers allows faster navigation and exploration of the KESM data, and more overlay of layers with the 4 times reduced file size compared to PNG tiles. Due to the reduced file size, the SVG-based KESMBA using OpenLayers is 2.45 times faster than the original atlas. By enhancing the performance, the users can more easily access the KESM data. We expect the SVG-based KESMBA to accelerate new discoveries in neuroscience.

MOBILITY AND LANDUSE PATTERNS OF THE CODY COMPLEX IN SASKATCHEWAN

The Cody Complex is a late Paleo-Indian complex found throughout the Great Plains of North America. In Saskatchewan, material of the complex is mostly found as surface finds and therefore out of its original context. In situ Cody Complex material has only been recovered from three excavated sites in Saskatchewan. While various archaeologists (professional and avocational) have collected and recorded Cody material from surface finds throughout the province, the results of their efforst have not been widely disseminated. These issues have led to a situation in which little is known about the Cody Complex in Saskatchewan. This thesis attempts to begin correcting this problem, firstly by acting as a reference source by compiling as much information as possible on the Cody Complex material found throughout Saskatchewan. Included in these reference materials are pictures, measurements and find locations of the projectile points and Cody knives whenever such information is available. Secondly an attempt is made to determine possible Cody Complex mobility and landuse patterns within the province. Mobility and landuse patterns were determined based on the lithic material types used to make the Cody Complex projectile points and Cody knives. In particular the find locations of various specimens was compared to where the material could be acquired. Cody Complex projectile points and the associated knives were focused on due to most Cody Complex material in the province being surface collected. Based on the lithic types used to create these tools, the Cody Complex people in Saskatchewan were practicing a highly mobile and non-local landuse pattern, with a particular focus of interactions with more southern areas such as the Knife River Flint quarry area of North Dakota.

O cortador de base é composto por dois discos contra rotativos, com cinco lâminas retangulares cada, que cortam os colmos em sua base por impacto. Um rolo defletor empurra os caules para frente antes do corte para auxiliar na alimentação da máquina. A deflexão e o corte de base por impacto são responsáveis por danos na soqueira e no produto colhido. Estes danos aceleram o processo de deterioração, aumentam o nível de perdas e prejudica a rebrota. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi desenvolver e avaliar um sistema de corte de base que não se baseie no corte por impacto e que possa ser adaptado em qualquer colhedora comercial sem a necessidade de alterações na máquina. Para alcançar o objetivo proposto, foi realizado um estudo cinemático de lâminas curvas e foram conduzidos experimentos de laboratório e campo. Os discos do cortador de base estão sujeitos a dois movimentos, rotação e translação (avanço da colhedora). O estudo cinemático descreve estes movimentos em forma de matrizes. Foram elaborados programas com o uso do software MATLAB para a realização de uma simulação virtual, usada para investigar as configurações alternativas do cortador de base e fornecer subsídios para um desenvolvimento teórico do processo de corte da cana-de-açúcar. No laboratório foi construída uma estrutura de teste que simulava os movimentos de rotação e translação do disco, para cortar uma amostra do caule da cana-de-açúcar. Foram realizados dois experimentos; no primeiro foi utilizado um delineamento estatístico em esquema fatorial onde foi avaliado o passo do serrilhado, o ângulo horizontal da lâmina com inclinação para frente e para trás e a velocidade de corte. The basecutting mechanism consists of two rotating discs, with five rectangular blades each, which cut the stalk at its base by impact. A knockdown roller pushes the stem forward before the cut to assist the machine feeding. The deflection and the basecutting by impact are responsible for damage to the stump and harvested product. This damage accelerates the deterioration process, increases the level of losses, damage and reduces the ratoon. The objective of this research was to develop and evaluate a basecutter system that is not based on the impact cut and can be adapted to any commercial harvester without any modification in the machine. To achieve the proposed objective, a cinematic study of curved blades was developed and was also conducted laboratory and field experiments. The basecutter discs are subject to two basic movements, rotation and translation (advancement of the harvester). The cinematic study describes these movements in form of matrices and some programs were written using the MATLAB software and this virtual simulation was used to investigate alternative basecutting configurations and provide knowledge to a theoretical development of the sugarcane cutting process. At the laboratory it was built a test rig that simulates the rotation and translation movements of the disc to cut a sample of sugarcane stalk. Two experiments were conducted: in the first, it was used a factorial statistics design which assessed the pitch of the serration, the horizontal blade angle (backward and forward) and cutting speed. It was analyzed the damage to stem, mass 4 losses, forces and cutting energy. De par la grande diversité de tissus existants, tous avec des caractéristiques mécaniques différentes, il n’y a que peu d’études portant sur la découpe de tissus textiles.Cette thèse s’intéresse à la découpe de textile en multi-plis par l’action d’une lame oscillante dans un contexte industriel.Dans cette étude, une machine de découpe industrielle est équipée de différents capteurs afin de pouvoir mesurer l’influence des efforts de coupe sur la qualité des pièces découpées. En utilisant cet équipement, il a été possible de contrôler les efforts de coupe pendant toute la durée d’une coupe rectiligne.Enfin, un modèle physique de ces efforts est proposé en prenant en compte différents paramètres comme la géométrie de la lame, les propriétés du matériau découpé et les différents paramètres de coupe. / Due to the wide variety of fabrics, all with different mechanical characteristics, there are few studies dealing with the question of cutting fabrics.In this thesis, we model the multi-ply cutting process using a reciprocating knife in an industrial context.In this study, a textile cutting machine is instrumented with different sensors, to measure the influence of cutting forces on the quality of the resulting profiles. Using this equipment, cutting forces can be analyzed experimentally while the fabric is being cut along a straight line.Next, a model of the physical phenomena of these forces is proposed, taking different parameters into account such as the geometry of the knife, the properties of the material being cut and the parameters of the cut.
