Queiroz, Rodrigo Nascimento de 30 November 2012 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2014-12-17T15:06:58Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 RodrigoNQ_DISSERT.pdf: 3682649 bytes, checksum: 33832ac05cfe929df2ad407d3f5c4739 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-11-30 / Research in the area of teacher training in English as a Foreign Language (CELANI, 2003, 2004, 2010; PAIVA, 2000, 2003, 2005; VIEIRA-ABRAH?O, 2010) articulates the complexity of beginning teachers classroom contexts aligned with teaching language as a social and professional practice of the teacher in training. To better understand this relationship, the present study is based on a corpus of transcribed interviews and questionnaires applied to 28 undergraduate students majoring in Letters/English emphasis, at a public university located in the interior of the Western Amazon region, soliciting their opinions about the reforms made in the curriculum of this Major. Interviews and questionnaires were used as data collection instruments to trace a profile of the students organized in Group 1, with freshmen and sophomore undergraduates who are following the 2009 curriculum, and Group 2, with junior and senior undergraduates who are following the 2006 curriculum. The objectives are to identify, to characterize and to analyze the types of pronouns, roles and social actors represented in the opinions of these students in relation to their teacher training curriculum. The theoretical support focuses on the challenge of historical and contemporary routes from English teachers initial education programs (MAGALH?ES; LIBERALLI, 2009; PAVAN; SILVA, 2010; ALVAREZ, 2010; VIANA, 2011; PAVAN, 2012). Our theoretical perspective is based on the Systemic Functional Grammar of Halliday (1994), Halliday and Hasan (1989), Halliday and Matthiessen (2004), Eggins (1994; 2004) and Thompson (2004). We focus on the concept of the Interpersonal meaning, specifically regarding the roles articulated in the studies by Delu (1991), Thompson and Thetela (1995), and in the Portuguese language such as Ramos (1997), Silva (2006) and Cabral (2009). Moreover, we ascribe van Leeuwen s (1997; 2003) theory of Representation of Social Actors as a theoretical framework in order to identify the sociological aspect of social actors represented in the students discourse. Within this scenario, the analysis unfolds on three levels: grammatical (pronouns), semantic (roles), and discursive (social actors). For the analysis of interpersonal realizations present in the students opinions, we use the computational program WordSmith Tools (SCOTT, 2010) and its applications Wordlist and Concord to quantify the occurrences of the pronouns I, You and They, which characterize the roles and social actors of the corpus. The results show that the students assigned the following roles to themselves: (i) apprentice to express their initial process of English language learning; (ii) freshman to reveal their choice of Major in Letters/English emphasis; (iii) future teacher to relate their expectations towards a practicing professional. To assign the roles to professors in the major, the students used the metaphor of modality (I think) to indicate the relationship of teacher training, while they are in the role of a student and as a future teacher. From these evidences the representation of the students as social actors emerges in roles such as: (i) active roles; (ii) passive roles and (iii) personalized roles. The social actors represented in the opinions of the students reflect the inclusion of these roles assigned to the actions expressed about their experiences and expectations derived from their teacher training classroom / Pesquisas na ?rea de forma??o de professores de ingl?s como l?ngua estrangeira (CELANI, 2003, 2004, 2010; PAIVA, 2000, 2003, 2005; VIEIRA-ABRAH?O, 2010) dimensionam a complexidade de contextos da sala de aula de forma??o inicial em aliar o ensino da l?ngua com a pr?tica social e profissional do futuro professor. Destas evid?ncias emergem os atores sociais representados pelos alunos em: (i) pap?is ativos; (ii) pap?is passivos e (iii) pap?is personalizados.

This research study aimed at investigating the foreign language teacher‟s pre-service education in a teletandem‟s laboratory context. Specifically, it focuses on four aspects in the foreign language teacher‟s pre-service education: counseling, mediation, reflection and learning in teletandem. This study discusses, through a new technological resource, the Adobe® Acrobat® Connect™ Pro, the counseling, mediation and the reflection by the pre-service students from a state university in São Paulo state, inside a teletandem laboratory. In this laboratory, the undergraduate foreigner teachers, called at this study of counselor-students, provide theoretical and technological counseling sessions to the freshman students in the thematic project named Teletandem Brasil: língua estrangeira para todos, in other words, for those students who have not started their foreign language learning in teletandem process yet. Therefore, this research is basically constituted by three stages: i) observation of the face to face counseling sessions given by the counselor-students in the laboratory; ii) reading, reflection and analysis of the reflective diaries of the counselor-students about these face to face counseling sessions and iii) realization of the online mediation sessions with the counselor-students through the Adobe® Acrobat® Connect™ Pro. The interest to achieve this research arose by the needs and concerns within my experience as an undergraduate foreign language teacher, in other words, as a teacher in a pre-service education lacking more counseling and reflection of the nature that this new context of teaching and learning languages in-tandem can provide. Thus, the study aimed to investigate what are the possible impacts of the counseling sessions‟ experience, given by the... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)

Programa de Leitorado: diálogo entre política linguística externa e formação de professores de PFOL no Brasil / Programa de Leitorado (lectureships): dialogue between international linguistic policy and teacher training for Portuguese to Speakers of Other Language

Leilane Morais Oliveira 15 December 2017 (has links)
Globalisation, triggered by the explorers of Renaissance, has brought up, among other issues, the movement of language internationalisation. Currently, as part of numerous nation states external linguistic policies, such process is regarded as language market (CALVET, 2002), in which languages from different parts of the world are linked to economic and political relations and used to produce and sell goods and services. Brazilian government, for their part, within the scope of The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Portuguese: Ministério das Relações Exteriores - MRE), maintains the Rede Brasil Cultural whereby varied projects, aimed at internationalising the official national language, are undertaken. Among such projects, we can mention Programa de Leitorado (Lectureships) a policy dated back to 1960, whose main ambition is to disseminate Brazils language and culture to foreign universities around the world via university professors (readers / lecturers). These positions are offered through public notice, published by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Portuguese: Coordenadoria de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior CAPES). Within this context, this thesis is meant to verify what the profile of former lecturers and their experience arouse concerning the practice of the internationalisation of the language developed by Programa de Leitorado as well as Teacher Training for Portuguese to Speakers of Other Languages (Portuguese: Português para Falantes de Outras Línguas - PFOL). Hence, the methodological approach in qualitative research was carried out by means of surveys, documental examination, questionnaires and semiolinguistic discursive analysis. As a whole, before a scenario of teaching deprofessionalisation, the examination depicts the frailties of Programa de Leitorado as well as the demands on its reconfiguration. Taking into consideration the established objective by MRE for this programme along with the account provided by former lecturers, their suggestions and posed dilemmas concerning their experience of being a Brazilian lecturer, the paper ends with a proposal on a course focusing on potential lecturers. It reflects not only on an attempt at expanding the competences of this policy but also on re-evaluating PFOL teacher training in Brazilian territory.

La formation initiale des enseignants de langues en Grèce sous l'angle des politiques linguistiques européennes / Language teacher education in Greece under the prism of the European linguistic policy

Papadopoulou, Eleni 10 June 2014 (has links)
The new paradigm of plurilingual and intercultural education that is being promoted at European level, as well as the incorporation of communication technology in teaching of languages, re-define the role of the languages’ teacher and in consequence influence the content of his/her education. In this study our initial hypotheses address the possible influence of the European educational and linguistic policy on the initial education of the languages’ teacher in Greece. We advanced to an analysis of the study programs of Greek foreign language departments under the prism of the European proposals and their implementation in Greece. Initially, the research revealed a big differentiation among programs of education of future teachers. We found that the majority follows the axes being proposed at European level and that efforts focus mainly on the relevance between theory and practice. We also carried out a quantitative and qualitative research in order to determine the convictions of languages’ teachers who work in public schools with regard to their initial education and the way they teach. Our aim was to observe in which degree European proposals correspond to the needs of languages’ teachers. The results confirmed our initial hypotheses that the education being proposed could cover the needs of teachers and help them face the new educational challenges. However, their testimonies revealed that the environment they work in does not always allow the application of what they have learned during their education.

Současné trendy ve vzdělávání a jejich aplikace v kvalifikačním studiu učitelů angličtiny / Current trends in education and their application in lifelong education of English teachers

Dvořák, Bohuslav January 2019 (has links)
This dissertation thesis deals with lifelong education, specifically a programme provided by the Department of English Language and Literature at Charles University, Prague. The thesis is divided into two parts: theoretical and research. In the theoretical part, the theoretical basis of lifelong education is analysed, as well as trends in selected aspects of it. In the research part, data about appropriate programmes from other European countries as well as curricula from other universities and colleges in the Czech Republic and from abroad are analysed. The results of the pilot stage, the questionnaire distributed among the successful participants of the lifelong education programme, which are followed by semi-structured interviews, are presented and compared. In addition, semi-structured interviews were conducted with the teachers teaching in this programme. Content analysis is used to process, compare and interpret the collected data with regard to the programme in question and to the aims of the thesis. The main aims of the dissertation thesis are to find out how similar programmes are structured in the Czech Republic and abroad, what expectations the participants had before starting the programme at Charles University and the extent to which they were met, and whether or not they regard the...
