Patientundervisningens betydelse vid en förändrad livsstil för personer med diabetes mellitus typ 2 : En litteraturöversikt / The importance of patient education in a changedlifestyle for people with type 2 diabetes mellitus : A literature reviewRosberg, Johanna, Bomberhult, Hanna January 2019 (has links)
Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is an increasingly common disease. People diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus need to break old routines and apply lifestyle changes that are appropriate for the disease. To be able to implement these lifestyle changes, knowledge of type 2 diabetes mellitus is required. The healthcare staff have a huge responsibility to give the persons relevant and person-centred patient education, so that lifestyle changes can take place. Purpose: to describe what people with diabetes mellitus type 2 experience promote and prevent lifestyle changes.Method: A literature review with qualitative design and an inductive approach was made. Result: It emerged that a good encounter and person-centred patient education of healthcare professionals generated good self-management and motivation for lifestyle changes in the persons with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Lack of knowledge about the disease due to unsatisfactory patient education led to uncertainty about the treatment, and concerns about wrongdoing prevented people from lifestyle changes. Conclusion: A person-centred patient education is the key to good lifestyle changes for people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. When the individuals receive individualized education, it generates good knowledge of the disease that improves the self-management and performance of lifestyle changes.

A proposal for an integrated framewoek capable of aggregating IoT data with diverse data types. Faria, Maria Luisa Lopes de 30 March 2017 (has links)
The volume of information in the Internet is growing exponentially. The ability to find intelligible information among vast amounts of data is transforming the human vision of the universe and everything within it. The underlying question then becomes which methods or techniques can be applied to transform the raw data into something intelligible, active and personal? This question is explored in this document by investigating techniques that improve intelligence for systems in order to make them perceptive/active to the recent information shared by each individual. Consequently, the main objective of this thesis is to enhance the experience of the user (individual) by providing a broad perspective about an event, which could result in improved ideas and better decisions. Therefore, three different data sources (individual data, sensor data, web data) have been investigated. This thesis includes research into techniques that process, interpret and reduce these data. By aggregating these techniques into a platform it is possible to deliver personalised information to applications and services. The contribution of this thesis is twofold. First, it presents a novel process that has shifted its focus from IoT technology to the user (or smart citizen). Second, this research shows that huge volumes of data can be reduced if the underlying sensor signal has adequate spectral properties to be filtered and good results can be obtained when employing a filtered sensor signal in applications. By investigating these areas it is possible to contribute to this new interconnected society by offering socially aware applications and services. / Sem resumo

Assessment of ocular accommodation in humansSzostek, Nicola January 2017 (has links)
Accommodation is the change in the dioptric power of the eye altering the focus from distance to near. Presbyopia is the loss of accommodative function that occurs with age. There are many techniques used to measure accommodation, however, there is little consensus as to how clinical data should be collected and analysed. The overarching theme of this thesis is the in vivo examination of accommodation and how lifestyle can affect the onset of presbyopia. An open-field autorefractor with badal adaption was used to examine accommodative dynamic profiles under varying demands of vergence. From this data a new metric for assessing the time for accommodative change was derived. Furthermore this thesis describes a bespoke automated accommodative facility instrument that was developed to provide further assessment of accommodative speeds. Defocus curves are used for assessing accommodation and depth-of-focus; the work presented explores the use of non-linear regression models to define the most appropriate method of assessing defocus curves in phakic subjects, and pseudophakic subjects implanted with an extended depth-of-focus intraocular lens. Using an absolute cut-off criteria of +0.30logMAR improved the repeatability and reliability of the depth-of-focus metrics over a cut-off criteria relative to the best corrected visual acuity. A swept-source anterior segment optical coherence tomographer (AS-OCT) was used to image the morphology of the ciliary muscle during accommodation. The accuracy of ciliary muscle measurements was improved when using reference points on the sclera to align the AS-OCT scan. The use of a ciliary muscle area metric demonstrated poor repeatability and reliability when compared to the traditional assessment of muscle morphology via thickness measurements. Physiological ageing in the crystalline lens occurs in line with ageing in other structures in the body. The methods for assessing accommodative function examined in previous chapters, were used to examine whether lifestyle factors which affect the rate of systemic ageing, such as smoking, also affect accommodative function. Although being a current smoker and having greater central adiposity was associated with a slower time for accommodative change, further research is required before these findings can be applied to the target population.

Programa de intervenção interdisciplinar em hábitos de vida em indivíduos de risco cardiometabólico: análise de fatores dietéticos associados à melhora do metabolismo glicídico / Interdisciplinary intervention program on lifestyle in individuals at cardiometabolic risk: analysis of dietary factors associated with improvement in glucose metabolismBarros, Camila Risso de 29 October 2012 (has links)
Unhealthy diet is seen as one of the main modifiable risk factors, being of central importance for the prevention of these diseases. Despite the evidence that certain nutrients are associated with diseases, causal relationships are still under discussion. Objectives: 1) To review the involvement of foods and nutrients in the genesis and control of non-communicable chronic diseases, that comprise the metabolic syndrome (manuscript 1); 2) To describe in detail the structure of the interdisciplinary intervention program on lifestyle, developed for costumers of public health system of Sao Paulo city (manuscript 2); 3) To investigate the impact of changes in dietary factors on glucose metabolism, induced by a lifestyle intervention in individuals at cardiometabolic risk attended by the public health system (manuscript 3). Methods: Adults with prediabetes or metabolic syndrome without diabetes were included in a randomized clinical trial involving two types of 18-month interventions: a traditional or an intensive one. The traditional intervention consisted of quarterly consultations with an endocrinologist, while in the intensive participants also attended psychoeducational group sessions with a multidisciplinary team, in addition to the medical visits. The dietary recommendations aimed at the adequate intake of fat (reduction of saturated and trans and increase of unsaturated fatty acids) and increase in fiber intake. Socio-demographic, anthropometric, dietary and biochemical (fasting and post-load plasma glucose, lipid profile, insulin, adiponectin, C-reactive protein, IL-6, TNF-, apolipoprotein A1 and B) data were collected at baseline and after 18-month of follow-up. Diet was assessed by 24-h dietary recalls, processed by Nutrition Data System software. Student t test, correlation coefficients, ANOVA with p for trend and multiple linear regressions analyses were employed to identify dietary factors associated with glucose metabolism improvement. Results: Manuscript 1 consists of a book chapter (Nutrition in Public Health) about epidemiological aspects of diseases of the spectrum of metabolic syndrome with emphasis on dietary factors and nutritional status. Manuscript 2 details the structure, professional team, recommendations and the main psychoeducative strategies used in the lifestyle intervention program developed (methodological article submitted and website). Analyses of manuscript 3 showed that the intervention-induced increase in monounsaturated fatty acids and soluble fiber intake were independently associated with reduction on fasting plasma glucose and the former also with 2h-plasma glucose improvement. Adjustment for anthropometric measurements did not change these results but did after including change in insulin in the models (original article). Conclusion: Intervention programs such as the developed herein should be reported taking into consideration the current scenario of cardiometabolic diseases. In the present study, increases in monounsaturated fatty acids and soluble fiber intake promoted benefits in glucose metabolism, independent of adiposity, at the end of the lifestyle intervention. Possible mechanisms mediating these processes may mainly include improvement in insulin sensitivity. Therefore, our findings strongly suggest that a feasible increase in consumption of these nutrients should be encouraged as a strategy for the protection of glucose metabolism in individuals at cardiometabolic risk

Comparação de dois tipos de treinamento físico na composição corporal de adolescentes obesos submetidos ao tratamento multidisciplinar / Comparison between two types of physical training concerning the body composition of obese adolescents submitted to a multidisciplinary treatmentSiqueira, Kãli Oliveira de 30 August 2006 (has links)
The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of two physical exercises programs applied to obese adolescents submitted to multidisciplinary treatment in order to establish which program is more effective to reduce body fat and increase lean mass in both gender. 60 obese adolescents aged between 15 and 19 years were selected, comprising 36 girls and 20 boys with body mass index (BMI) equal to or above the 95th percentile. The sample was divided into two groups: aerobic and strength. The adolescents were submitted to anthropometric, clinical, body composition and physical fitness evaluation. In addition, they were oriented to change their lifestyle and received nutritional, psychological and medical assistance. 60 minute physical exercise sessions occurred three times a week on alternate days. Body composition was evaluated by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) twice: at the beginning and at the end of the program. The program lasted for 12 weeks. The main results show that both aerobic and the strength groups had significant reduction of body weight and of the BMI, and when analyzed by gender, no significant difference was observed among girls of both groups, while boys of the strength groups had a significant reduction. Lean mass increased significantly in the strength group only. Participants of both physical training groups had significant reduction of their fat mass, percentage of total body fat and percentage of trunk fat. A positive correlation was established between the reduction in the percentage of trunk fat and the percentage of peripheral fat. In conclusion, strength training was more effective to increase lean mass. Considering the greater reduction in the percentage variation between the beginning and the end of the period, aerobic training was more effective to reduce the fat mass while strength training was more effective to reduce the percentage of total body fat of obese adolescents submitted to multidisciplinary treatment during twelve weeks.

Negros de classe média em São Paulo: estilo de vida e identidade negra / Lifestyle and black identity in the city of São Paulo: the black middle classSoares, Reinaldo da Silva 06 December 2004 (has links)
This study is about São Paulos black middle class population. It seeks to analyse class identity from the subjects point of view: focusing, in the one hand, on the way in which the subjects classify themselves and, on the other, on how the class concept is formulated by them, drawing an analogy between this concept and those conceived by social scientists. In order to realise this aim, this study examines the blacks lifestyle, using their material and symbolic consumption as a reference. Along with this analysis, the study also questions the racial identity, as experimented by the subjects, considering both the subjects racial and social self classification and the factors used as a reference to the idea of being part of an ethnic group. This study investigates the black middle class social representation, that is to say, it seeks to understand how this population perceive their society, what is the image the blacks have of themselves and, according to their opinion, which is the opinion the encompassing society have upon them.

“Our readers consider themselves activists” : A Mixed-Method Study of Consumption Discourses and Activism in Teen VogueKvarnström, Sofia January 2018 (has links)
During the year of 2017 and 2018, the online magazine Teen Vogue saw an immense rise in reader statistic after laying all efforts on digital channels and increasing content about social issues to attract audiences of young people. Teen Vogue is a form of lifestyle journalism. This type of journalism is known for providing popular journalism, infotainment and human-interest stories with close ties to commercial interests. The target audience of Teen Vogue are adolescents or youth, which has for a long time been a group that often shows resistance and calls out for change. But, what happens when a magazine with close connection to commercial interests also aims to attracting a more socially conscious group? This research explores the connection between lifestyle media, consumption and social issues through a mixed method study of the articles in Teen Vogue. The first part of this research consists of a content analysis which identifies the main social issues within the content categories of the magazine and established the close connection between commercial issues and activism in the content. The second part of the study involves a critical discourse analysis which analyzes how language is used and how discourses of consumption interplay in the material. It was found that discourses of consumption as a means to extend one’s identity was intertwined with consumption as ethical or responsible, highlighting that being an activist is mainly a matter of consumption.
