Dualities and finitely presented functors

Dean, Samuel January 2017 (has links)
We investigate various relationships between categories of functors. The major examples are given by extending some duality to a larger structure, such as an adjunction or a recollement of abelian categories. We prove a theorem which provides a method of constructing recollements which uses 0-th derived functors. We will show that the hypotheses of this theorem are very commonly satisfied by giving many examples. In our most important example we show that the well-known Auslander-Gruson-Jensen equivalence extends to a recollement. We show that two recollements, both arising from different characterisations of purity, are strongly related to each other via a commutative diagram. This provides a structural explanation for the equivalence between two functorial characterisations of purity for modules. We show that the Auslander-Reiten formulas are a consequence of this commutative diagram. We define and characterise the contravariant functors which arise from a pp-pair. When working over an artin algebra, this provides a contravariant analogue of the well-known relationship between pp-pairs and covariant functors. We show that some of these results can be generalised to studying contravariant functors on locally finitely presented categories whose category of finitely presented objects is a dualising variety.

From group to patient-specific analysis of brain function in arterial spin labelling and BOLD functional MRI / Des études de groupe aux analyses individuelles dans l'exploration de la fonction cérébrale en imagerie de perfusion par marquage de spins et en IRM fonctionnelle BOLD

Maumet, Camille 29 May 2013 (has links)
This thesis deals with the analysis of brain function in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) using two sequences: BOLD functional MRI (fMRI) and Arterial Spin Labelling (ASL). In this context, group statistical analyses are of great importance in order to understand the general mechanisms underlying a pathology, but there is also an increasing interest towards patient-specific analyses that draw conclusions at the patient level. Both group and patient-specific analyses are studied in this thesis. We first introduce a group analysis in BOLD fMRI for the study of specific language impairment, a pathology that was very little investigated in neuroimaging. We outline atypical patterns of functional activity and lateralisation in language regions. Then, we move forward to patient-specific analysis. We propose the use of robust estimators to compute cerebral blood flow maps in ASL. Then, we analyse the validity of the assumptions underlying standard statistical analyses in the context of ASL. Finally, we propose a new locally multivariate statistical method based on an a contrario approach and apply it to the detection of atypical patterns of perfusion in ASL and to activation detection in BOLD functional MRI.

[en] REPRESENTATION OF GENERIC CURVES BY THEIR SINGULARITIES / [pt] REPRESENTAÇÃO DE CURVAS GENÉRICAS POR SUAS SINGULARIDADES

FILIPE BELLIO DA NOBREGA 08 January 2019 (has links)
, an. / [en] The aim of this work is to study the topological and geometric properties of closed generic immersed curves in the plane. In this case, generic means that the curve can only have double points without a common tangent. One can label the singularities using n symbols, such as a1, ... , an. Going around the curve, a cyclic word of length 2n is produced. However, not every word is related to a planar curve, there are requirements on its combinatorics, the first of which was found by Gauss. Advances were made in the study of locally convex curves on the plane, the sphere and the projective plane.

Um estudo sobre a boa colocação local da equação não linear de Schrödinger cúbica unidimensional em espaços de Sobolev periódicos / A study about the locally well posed of cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation in periodic Sobolev spaces

Romão, Darliton Cezario 25 March 2009 (has links)
In this work we study, in details, the Cauchy problem of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation, with initial datas in periodic Sobolev spaces. Specifically, we prove that this problem is locally well posed for datas in Hsper, with s ≥ 0. Particularly, for initial datas in L2 the problem is globally well posed, due to the conservation law of the equation in this space. Moreover, we prove the this result is the best one, seeing we expose examples that show that the equation flow is not locally uniformly continuous for initial datas with regularity less than L2.

Noise Reduction in Flash X-ray Imaging Using Deep Learning

Sundman, Tobias January 2018 (has links)
Recent improvements in deep learning architectures, combined with the strength of modern computing hardware such as graphics processing units, has lead to significant results in the field of image analysis. In this thesis work, locally connected architectures are employed to reduce noise in flash X-ray diffraction images. The layers in these architectures use convolutional kernels, but without shared weights. This combines the benefits of lower model memory footprint in convolutional networks with the higher model capacity of fully connected networks. Since the camera used to capture the diffraction images has pixelwise unique characteristics, and thus lacks equivariance, this compromise can be beneficial. The background images of this thesis work were generated with an active laser but without injected samples. Artificial diffraction patterns were then added to these background images allowing for training U-Net architectures to separate them. Architecture A achieved a performance of 0.187 on the test set, roughly translating to 35 fewer photon errors than a model similar to state of the art. After smoothing the photon errors this performance increased to 0.285, since the U-Net architectures managed to remove flares where state of the art could not. This could be taken as a proof of concept that locally connected networks are able to separate diffraction from background in flash X-Ray imaging.

Initially, considering linearWeingarten hypersurfaces immersed in locally symmetric manifolds and, imposing suitable constraints on the scalar curvature, we guarantee that such a hypersurface is either totally umbilical or isometric to a isoparametric hypersurface with two distinct principal curvatures, one of them being simple. In higher codimension, we use a Simons type formula to obtain new characterizations of hyperbolic cylinders through the study of submanifolds having parallel normalized mean curvature vector field in a semi-Riemannian space form. Finally, we investigate the rigidity of complete spacelike hypersurfaces immersed in the steady state space via applications of some maximum principles.

Continuidade de atratores para sistemas dinâmicos: decomposição de Morse, equi-atração e domínios ilimitados / Continuity of attractors for dynamical systems: Morse decompositions, equiattraction and unbounded domains

Henrique Barbosa da Costa 28 July 2016 (has links)
In this work we study assimptotic properties of parabolic problems under some different view of points, particularlly interested in the stability properties of the systems. We study equi-attraction in the non autonomous case using skew-product semiflows, which transform the non autonomous dynamical system into a autonomous one in a convenient phase space. For multivalued semiflows, in which the semiflow is a set valued function, we develop the Morse decomposition and show its equivalence with admiting a Lyapunov funcional, wich is a important result on the semigroup theory. We also study the continuity of the asymptotic dynamic for a parabolic problem in an unbouded domain when we approach it by bounded ones.
