No. of bitstreams: 1 Nicolau Rafael Guimarães Coelho.pdf: 528512 bytes, checksum: 132075b0ad02b8127de4e84ea16dead3 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2017-02-22 / The objective of the present study is the analysis of a current topic of great relevance, namely, women's work and maternity, according to the current legal system. For this approach, it is necessary to highlight the dual role that women play in society, either as a worker in search of capital for the support of her family and as administrator of the home, and to provide means of subsistence in the first moments of the new life that was Conceived. Thus, there is no denying the need to reassess the role of motherhood, given the increased participation of women in the labor market. Including women in the labor market goes far beyond their qualification, just as men do. It means respecting their hormonal, personal and family characteristics, where maternity is highlighted, as it is a general knowledge of the difficulty of reconciling responsibilities arising from the labor market and the obligations arising from maternity. Despite the adverse scenario of maternity and the economic crisis in Brazil, the transition and increase in the number of women entering and remaining in the Brazilian labor market is perceptible. It should be noted that a brief analysis of statistics reveals that men still have higher wages, which demonstrates a discriminatory nature of the insertion of women into the labor market. On the other hand, there is an increase in female employment in middle-level qualification occupations, with relatively more compensated income, with labor benefits extended by the Federal Constitution of 1988, and supported by the Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT) As in several activities that historically have always been occupied by the male sex, such as, engineering, drivers, among others / O objetivo do presente estudo é a análise de um tema atual e de grande relevância, qual seja, o trabalho da mulher e a maternidade, conforme o ordenamento jurídico vigente.

Fleck, Adriana January 2011 (has links)
The preterm birth is a potentially traumatic event in the life of the mother and baby and in this context, the confrontation between the imaginary baby of pregnancy and the real baby can be enhanced. The aim of this study was to investigate the feelings of the mother about the imaginary baby and the real baby (in postpartum, pre-discharge and at 3 months after hospital discharge) in the context of preterm birth. Four mothers of preterm infants participated, primipara, aged 19 to 31 years. The babies were born between 28-29 weeks, weighing 1000-1500g and were hospitalized in the NICU. A study of collective case was carried out, trying to understand each case, the similarities and particularities among them. Interviews were conducted to investigate the experience of pregnancy and motherhood were examined by qualitative content analysis. Results confirmed the expectation of a major confrontation between the real and imaginary baby and the difficulty of the mother in elaborating the loss of the imaginary baby and the adjustment to the real baby, especially in the postpartum period. In the pre-discharge and at 3 months after discharge, it was noted that mothers were able to get closer, both physically and emotionally to the real baby, elaborating gradually the loss of the imaginary baby. However, motherhood proved to be surrounded by constant worries about the baby, with the mothers charging themselves in relation to their maternal performance. The results indicate that preterm birth has generated an intense emotional impact on mothers and constituted a challenge to adapt to the needs of the real premature baby and to motherhood.

Batista.pdf: 1307965 bytes, checksum: 9bb27e13fa5efbdc825d86a5205e63ee (MD5) Previous issue date: 2017-03-30 / From the second half of the twentieth century Brazilian society presented socio-cultural, economic and family changes which marked the construction of masculinity and parental care and which culminated in the advent of the new paternity, proposing a masculine attention that gives to man a bigger parental presence in domestic space and implies new meaning in the affective dimension of the father in relation to the child. However, this transformation is not exempted of tensions and it includes to the man traditional attributes added to new convictions. In this sense, the new paternity occurs from the inclusion and amplification of the involvement of the man-father in the context of the labor and childbirth and acquires a new meaning. The objective of this study is to comprehend the meanings that man attributes to his perception in the performance of paternity in the context of labor and childbirth in a public maternity hospital of Brazilian Northeast. This is a study with a qualitative approach that used the triangulation of methods: ethnography and in-depth interview done at the Instituto de Saúde Elpídio de Almeida - ISEA in the city of Campina Grande - PB. The data were collected during the months of April to May 2016, which population was determined by intentionality, with the interviews recorded in digital devices and later transcribed in totality, and the number of interviews defined by the criterion of theoretical saturation. As for the analysis of the empirical data, from the study of content, three analytical categories were constructed: 1- Expressions of paternity; 2. Meaning of being a father; 3 - how it is for this man being in the process of labor and childbirth. This study evidenced as main results the differences and similarities in the ways of being a father and of taking care, depending on the sector unit and the stages of laboring experienced, highlighting the support and shelter focused on women, suggesting a perspective of care attribution mediated by the mother considering the corporality of the fetus and the conjugal relationship. Although the man-father expresses availability for the care and the follow-up of the woman in labor, he did in an inconsistently form and putting himself as a support. As for the meaning of being a father, there were parents who as soon as they perceived themselves still in gestation, others from the childbirth and some related to the value and quality of their conjugal relationship. Being present in the labor and childbirth scenario offered openness to the living of paternity assuring the man to live an unique moment in life through the birth of the child and, on the other hand, made a problem of his presence, since there are still barriers of man himself, professionally and institutionally which separate the father from the birth scene, interfering with the father and child relationship. Thereby, the new paternity in the maternity scenario permits the expressions of the different modalities of being a father and that is why it becomes a relevant theme for the field of collective health.

Maternal satisfaction and recommendation of perinatal health facility : A cross sectional study measuring perceptions of mothers experiences of maternity care at tertiary care hospitals in Nepal

Asif, Akila January 2019 (has links)
Background: To achieve better health outcomes it is important to identify those aspects of health care delivery system that determines patient satisfaction. The health care planners must therefore be cognizant of the opinions and expectations of those who utilize health care facilities to achieve better health outcomes. This also applies to maternal satisfaction. The study aimed to measure mothers satisfaction with maternity care and its association with various socio-demographic characteristics. Method: The study presented here is a quantitative cross-sectional study that utilizes secondary data from facility-based survey conducted in 12 different tertiary hospitals of Nepal and included client exit interviews  (n=43756). The maternal satisfaction association with different exposures and potential confounders was determined using multivariate logistic regression analysis. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used for data analysis. Results:. Better information and counselling is seen to be associated with higher satisfaction and recommendation [AOR: 1.67 [1.60-1.75]] and [1.68[1.57-1.80], respectively. Higher level of delivery preparation indicates lower overall satisfaction [AOR: 0.70 [0.66-0.74]]. Mothers were seen to be less satisfied with the religious and cultural aspects of the maternal health services. Mothers age and sex of child was not seen to be significant with any outcome. Conclusion: Better information and counselling indicates more satisfaction and recommendation. Mothers delivery preparation is seen as a significant predictor of their overall satisfaction; therefore, this should be a part of education and information strategy for mothers from the different backgrounds.

The Effect of Attending A Maternity Group on Low-Income Mothers' Perceptions of Social Support and Overall Well-Being

Shoemaker, Lauren 01 January 2019 (has links)
Building on research about low-income mothers’ perceptions of social support and well-being levels, this research will vary the types of support mothers receive to determine the most effective way to increase mothers’ well-being. The proposed study will be a quasi-experimental, longitudinal study that focuses on maternity groups as a space that provides mothers with essential parenting information in addition to emotional support. Mothers will be randomly assigned to either a control condition with daily access to free parenting supplies or a treatment condition where they will have access to the parenting supplies and be invited to join a maternity group. The participants will complete a pre-test survey and then an identical post-test survey six months later. The surveys will assess their perceived levels of social support and well-being. It is expected that mothers in the treatment condition will report higher levels of perceived social support and well-being as a result of attending the weekly maternity group. The results will stress the importance of developing policies that amend the absence of accessible support programs for low-income mothers. These programs should be dedicated to providing free supplies for mothers while helping them establish supportive social networks that increase psychological well-being.

The Impact of Maternity Healthcare Employees Professional Development on Pregnant Teen Health

Kelley, Patricia.Kelley 01 January 2017 (has links)
Knowledge gaps exist related to the care and education of pregnant teens. This project study addressed the problem of an inadequate amount of professional development (PD) and training for healthcare professionals (HCPs) caring for pregnant teens at a maternity clinic in the Southeastern United States. Unless HCPs are appropriately trained, the ability to meet the needs of pregnant teens is deficient and negative health outcomes for these patients are likely to be exacerbated. The humanistic learning theory was used in this phenomenological exploratory study to explore perception of 9 HCPs who had the responsibility for patient teaching, clinical care, and were full time employees at a maternity clinic. The research questions focused on the perceptions of the HCPs regarding their experiences of PD as it relates to the care of pregnant and parenting teens, strengths and weaknesses of their current PD, and how their PD could impact the health outcomes of pregnant and parenting teens. The themes developed from the interview data revealed a need for an expansion of HCP knowledge and skills to improve the healthcare of pregnant and parenting teens, as well as challenges associated with the current PD plan. The resulting project consisted of a 3-day workshop to increase the HCPs' proficiency and efficacy in caring for pregnant and parenting teens. Evaluation of the project will be through formative and summative assessment. The project contributes to positive social change at the local clinic by reinforcing the HCPs' skills in in educating, caring for, and supporting the teen parent population.
