Volba modu ve španělských konstrukcích s modálním významem potenciálním (s přihlédnutím k situaci v češtině a italštině) / Choice of Mood in Spanish Grammatical Constructions Expressing Potentiality (with Reference to Czech and Italian)

Kratochvílová, Dana January 2012 (has links)
in English Choice of Mood in Spanish Grammatical Constructions Expressing Potentiality (with Reference to Czech and Italian) Key words: Mood, Subjunctive, Potentiality, Corpus, Spanish, Italian, Czech The objective of this paper is to study the systemic possibilities of alternation between the subjunctive and the indicative in Spanish grammatical constructions expressing potentiality, the semantical differences this alternation brings and also the frequency these two modes appear in respective constructions. In order to achieve this objective I studied not only the specialized literature in the topic but also the language corpora. Later I compared the situation in Spanish with Italian and Czech as well. The results of my study brought me to the conclusion that it is necessary to study each expression of potentiality separately because the verbal modes do not appear equally often after these expressions. On the other hand, the use of the conjunctive in Italian is far more formalized. Czech does not posses any systemic tool that could work for the Spanish subjunctive in every context. However, its translation as the conditional or the future indicative is possible.

Child molesters and children as witnesses : spatial behaviour, modus operandi and memory recall

Ebberline, Jessica January 2008 (has links)
Offenders who target children are a negative phenomenon in our society. These offenders are often seen as the worst of the worst of criminals and are therefore a priority for investigators trying to solve these crimes as fast as possible. The purpose of this thesis is to see if there are common denominators among these offenders in their modus operandi (MO) and their spatial patterns. If similar patterns emerge amongst these offenders, that would be of investigative importance for those who work with crimes against children. In Study I, a group of child molesters and their MO were studied in order to see how they found their victims and where they committed their crimes. The results were consistent with previous studies on child molesters in that they all committed their crimes at home or close to their homes. In Study II, a geographical profiling tool was tested in order to see if such a program could be used to find an offender who made obscene phone calls (OPC) to children. The results showed that the geographical software based on spatial behaviour, was able to narrow down the search area in which the offender actually lived when he committed his crimes. In Study III, the focus was on the potential witnesses/victims and how much a child could remember correctly of a staged event simulating a potential child molester looking for new victims. The results showed that the children’s event memory were comparable with an adult control group. The combined results could be summarized as follows: offenders who target children usually commit their crimes at home or close to home (or base), they tend to lure children to go with them by using bribes or the recruitment of former victims. Girls seem to be the preferred sex over boys. Children could be used as accurate witnesses in these types of crimes.

John Stuart Mill on Liberty: A Poliyical Philosophy Examination

Liu, Yen-chang 10 August 2004 (has links)
The purpose of this essay is, in a political philosophy perspective, to offer an illumination of John Stuart Mill¡¦s thoughts on modernity. In this essay, firstly, in the first chapter, I will try to elaborate the reason why I write this essay and take a perspective of history and political philosophy as my analytic viewpoint. Moreover, I also briefly introduce Mill¡¦s writings and the frameworks of this essay. In the second chapter, I describe the events, movements, and thoughts that gradually shape the modernity. From the standpoints of Weber, Hume and Romanticism, I also refer to one of the most important characteristics of modernity in political philosophy: value pluralism. In Mill¡¦s thoughts, how to response to the problem derived from value pluralism is my most important discourse. In the following chapter, I offer an exposition to detail Mill¡¦s discourses on modernity, focusing on his utilitarianism and liberalism. I mainly discuss how Mill¡¦s principles of utility and liberty response to the problem derived from value pluralism. I also discuss two contemporary thinkers¡¦ thoughts to find Mill¡¦s discourses on modernity, namely John Rawls and John Gray. In the fourth chapter, I assess and review the criticisms on Mill¡¦s discourses on modernity. In the conclusion chapter, I briefly go through the major viewpoints of this essay.

Gray&#039 / s Value-pluralism: A Critical Analysis

Parmaksiz, Abdullah Umut 01 December 2007 (has links) (PDF)
In this study, John Gray&rsquo / s theory of value-pluralism is critically analyzed. Gray&rsquo / s modus vivendi, based on Isaiah Berlin&rsquo / s criticism of monism, is a theory that aims to create the conditions in which peace and diversity in late-modern societies can be protected. Gray argues that a legally pluralistic system where collectives have autonomy is more serving to peace than its liberal alternatives. This study argues that Gray fails to achieve its goal of promoting diversity. This is due to the fact that Gray&rsquo / s theory does not recognize &lsquo / personal autonomy&rsquo / and &lsquo / right of exit&rsquo / as standards for a legitimate regime. It is argued in this study that without &lsquo / personal autonomy&rsquo / and &lsquo / right of exit&rsquo / , legally pluralist systems curb the conditions that makes diversity possible and thereby work at the expense of diversity rather than for diversity.

Web of Sound : Hur ljud interagerar med ljud

Ståhl, Lukas, Ohlsson, Nicklas January 2018 (has links)
Our goal with this Bachelor Thesis was to explore and realize alternative ways of synthesizing sound, together with a rhizomatic and an audio-theoretical point of view. We both question our preconceived assumptions and the general perception of audio interaction. We have been inspired by Michel Chion's analysis process, modes of listening and the theory of synchresis to realize a starting point and a mainstay that runs throughout the thesis. Our theories and tests have taken place in both a reactionary and proactive manner as we have both produced prototypes based on preliminary studies and conducted tests with prototypes in search of external opinions. The tests were conducted by inviting third parties to participate in the survey and, in as natural a way as possible, conducted qualitative studies in the form of interviews and observation to jointly explore the semantic characteristics sound possesses. The result of our study is in conflict with the human biological conditions. To decontextualise audio completely is an issue that is considered an utopia and something that we have taken in consideration in the survey. At the end of the survey we will discuss if our situated mind and our references have influenced our scrutiny, our writing and our testing.

Linking Residential Burglaries using the Series Finder Algorithm in a Swedish Context

Aleksandr, Polescuk January 2017 (has links)
Context. A minority of criminals performs a majority of the crimes today. It is known that every criminal or group of offenders to some extent have a particular pattern (modus operandi) how crime is performed. Therefore, computers' computational power can be employed to discover crimes that have the same model and possibly are carried out by the same criminal. The goal of this thesis was to apply the existing Series Finder algorithm to a feature-rich dataset containing data about Swedish residential burglaries. Objectives. The following objectives were achieved to complete this thesis: Modifications performed on an existing Series Finder implementation to fit the Swedish police forces dataset and MatLab code converted to Python. Furthermore, experiment setup designed with appropriate metrics and statistical tests. Finally, modified Series Finder implementation's evaluation performed against both Spatial-Temporal and Random models. Methods. The experimental methodology was chosen in order to achieve the objectives. An initial experiment was performed to find right parameters to use for main experiments. Afterward, a proper investigation with dependent and independent variables was conducted. Results. After the metrics calculations and the statistical tests applications, the accurate picture revealed how each model performed. Series Finder showed better performance than a Random model. However, it had lower performance than the Spatial-Temporal model. The possible causes of one model performing better than another are discussed in analysis and discussion section. Conclusions. After completing objectives and answering research questions, it could be clearly seen how the Series Finder implementation performed against other models. Despite its low performance, Series Finder still showed potential, as presented in future work.

True-crimeserier - att skapa spänning i sökandet eftersanningen. : En analys på funktionen av berättarkomponenter och struktur i Netflixdokumentärserie The Keepers (2017)

Lindmark, Anette, Zetterlund, Anna January 2018 (has links)

Modotemporální funkce paradigmatu hablaba v současné španělštině / Modal/temporal functions of paradigm hablaba in contemporary Spanish

Vinarčíková, Jana January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to introduce modotemporal functions of paradigm hablaba in Spanish. In the theoretical part, we define basic concepts related to this theme and the basic functions of paradigm hablaba. Then we describe functions that are less typical for the given paradigm. We designate these functions as modal meanings and we pay most attention to them. We describe them mainly from the semantic point of view and we also introduce different kinds of theories, which try to explain these meanings. In the practical part, using parallel corpus InterCorp, we analyze the meanings of the paradigm hablaba in the selected occurrences and we introduce the examples of some sentences proving the statements from the theoretical part of the thesis. Key words: verbal paradigm, imperfect tense, modal meanings, Spanish, corpus, InterCorp
