Ramos Romero, Diego 09 November 2012 (has links)
Abreviaturas: HR Humedad relativa MOE Módulo de elasticidad en flexión o Módulo de Young MOR Módulo de rotura o Resistencia a la flexión IB Resistencia a la tracción perpendicular a las caras (Internal Bond) TS Hinchamiento WA Absorción de agua / This work studies the parameters for obtaining binderless fiberboards from lignocelullosic materials such as giant reed (Arundodonax L.) and sugar cane bagasse (Saccharumofficinarum L.) The suggested boards havethe advantage of being free from formaldehyde emissions and of not consuming fossil resources. Both properties are important in a market that is increasingly sensitivetowards environmental issues. Wild reeds from Tarragona were used as the base material to make Arundodonax Lfiberboards. The Saccharumoffinarumsugar cane bagasse was anindustrial byproduct obtained from a plantation on the island ofLa Palma in the Canary Islands (DestileríasAldea SL). The raw material was pre-treated by performing a “steam explosion” in a “batch” reactor. The exploded material was ground and cold-pressed in two ways (wet and dry). Subsequently, the cold-pressed boards, which had beenconditioned at a constant temperature and RH, were hot-pressed at different levels of pressure, temperature and press time. Some of the processes for producing boards on a laboratory-scale,such as pressing withsteam evacuation meshes, have been improved. Others processes were specifically developed in the laboratory, including the incorporation of cold-pressing and the final heat treatment after hot-forming. The aim of all this was to achieve high mechanical performance in boards made from these materials. Different factors involved in the production of the boards were studied (severity of pretreatment, pressing temperature, pressing pressure and pressing time) to determine how they affectthe physical and mechanical properties of these boards (density, MOE, MOR, IB, TS and WA). As a result, the mathematical relationships that link these production factors to the physical and mechanical properties of the boards were obtained. It is very significant for the industry that these adjusted models can produce boards with preset characteristics. The use of material that wascompletely exploded and unwashed and, therefore, without residue has also been studied. In terms of all the physical-mechanical characteristics studied, the boards fully comply with the requirements of the EN standards for structural use. Development of anode catalysts for direct alcohol fuel cells

Lee, Eungje 09 December 2010 (has links)
Direct alcohol fuel cells (DAFC) are attracting considerable interest to meet a variety of energy needs as they offer higher efficiency with less pollution compared to other conventional energy-conversion devices. However, the sluggish alcohol oxidation reaction kinetics and durability problems of the conventional Pt-Ru anode catalyst hamper the commercialization of the DAFC systems. With an aim to overcome these problems, there have been intensive efforts to alloy Pt-Ru with other metals. Although such strategies have led to some enhancement in activity, the durability problem caused by the instability of Ru could still not be alleviated. In this regard, this dissertation focuses on the development of non-Ru electrocatalysts with high activity and durability for DAFC applications. First, Ru-free, Pt-based bimetallic electrocatalysts for methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) were studied. Particularly, Pt-Sn and Pt-CeO₂ catalysts were synthesized, respectively, by a polyol method and a one-step reverse microemulsion (RME) method. The prepared samples are investigated for phase and morphological evaluations by various material-characterization techniques. Cyclic voltammetry and accelerated durability tests revealed that these alternative catalysts have much higher stability with a catalytic activity for MOR comparable to that of Pt-Ru. In the case of Pt-CeO₂, an improved particle morphology is obtained by the RME synthesis, and the advantage of the RME method is reflected by a higher catalytic activity in comparison to that of Pt-CeO₂ synthesized by the conventional synthesis method. It has been known that Pt-Sn is better than Pt-Ru for ethanol oxidation reaction (EOR), and the direct ethanol fuel cells (DEFC) employing Pt-Sn as the anode catalyst have better durability than the DMFC system employing a Pt-Ru anode catalyst. Therefore, this dissertation then focused on the enhancement of the catalytic activity for EOR by incorporating a third metal M to the Pt-Sn catalyst. Following the synthesis and characterization of the Pt-Sn-M (M = Mo and Pd) alloys, the effect of M on the enhanced catalytic activity of Pt-Sn-M is presented. The activity enhancement of the above catalysts is based on the promoting effect of the second or third elements added to Pt. However, in the final chapter of this dissertation, the activity enhancement of Pt nanoparticle itself through the formation of low energy surfaces is investigated. Carbon-supported Pt nanoparticles are synthesized in mixed water-ethylene glycol solvent, and the positive effect of the mixed solvent on both the morphology and surface structure of the Pt nanoparticles for COad oxidation is discussed. / text

Simonsson, Rakel, Söderberg, Marcus January 2014 (has links)
SAMMANFATTNING Bakgrund: Enligt WHO begås årligen cirka 800 000 självmord av människor världen över.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Essays on Consumer Brand Engagement.pdf: 950179 bytes, checksum: 14252036a97520690b11cd6730c1464d (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-02-17 / Despite the growing interest in the brand engagement concept there has been debate about its conceptual foundations. This doctoral thesis explores the nature of the consumer brand engagement (CBE) construct. In the first paper, CBE is assessed within the Expectancy Theory framework to explain and clarify the probable anticipated results of engaging with a brand, and outcomes are categorized into a first level (resulting from personal effort allocated to interact with a brand) and a second level (consequence of first level outcomes) and a novel CBE definition is formulated. A comprehensive brand engagement framework is proposed using the Boundary-Spanning Marketing Organization Theory (MOR) as a consumer-brand touch point framework. From the theoretical foundations of the cognitive, emotional and behavioral dimensions of CBE, fifteen theoretical propositions are developed to incorporate a multilateral perspective on the construct’s theoretical tenets. In the second paper, four studies are used to develop a consumer brand engagement scale. Study 1 (n=11) uses literature review and in-depth interviews with consumers to generate scale items. In Study 2, eight experts evaluate 144 items for face and content validity. In Study 3 data collected with undergraduate students (n=172) is submitted to both exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to further item reduction. Three hundred and eighty-nine responses from a consumer panel are used on Study 4 to evaluate model fit, using Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The proposed scale confirms excellent validity and reliability levels. Finally, in the third paper, a consumer engagement scale from Vivek et al. (2014) is replicated (n=598) with customers in an auto show, and extends the construct measurement debate using an Item Response Theory (IRT) perspective. Although the data achieved fit on a Classical Test Theory (CTT) using CFA, a graded response model (GRM) identifies five items that have low levels of discriminating power and provides low levels of information. The IRT approach indicates a possible path to future methodological improvements to marketing scales in general, and to the consumer engagement scale in particular.

Výskyt moru včelího plodu v Jihočeském kraji / Occurrence of bee brood plaque in South Bohemian region

ŠTURMOVÁ, Jana January 2014 (has links)
In diploma thesis I dealt with American foulbrood infection. At first I was focusing on disease hazards of foulbrood and I was investigating the pathogenesis of the disease bacteria Paenibacillus larvae. Then I carried out analysis of slumgum by culture test in the laboratory. I watched the bacteria P. larvae under a microscope. Next, I followed outbreaks announced by Regional Veterinary Administration. I investigated procedures of the Regional Veterinary Administration in accordance with legislation and decree during detecting the disease of AFB on the habitats. At the end, I developed a list of proclaimed outbreaks in South Bohemia into graphs and chart for the period from 2006 to 2013. The only treatment against this disease so far is burning hives, including all equipment of apiary. That is why I pointed out the importance of reporting suspected outbreaks of American foulbrood, respecting the rules and precautions by beekeepers, and beekeepers should also breed only healthy and strong beehives. Only then the spread of American foulbrood can be prevented and the originator of American foulbrood, the P. larvae, which is very durable, can be suppressed.

Genomická analýza Paenibacillus larvae ve vztahu k jeho virulenci / Genomic analysis of Paenibacillus larvae and its relation to virulence

Vlková, Kateřina January 2020 (has links)
Paenibacillus larvae is a Gram-positive sporulating bacterium that causes American foulbrood (AFB). It is one of the most dangerous bacterial pathogens of the honeybee (Apis mellifera). P. larvae spores are highly infectious to bee larvae and resist physicochemical influences. P. larvae is subtyped using repPCR with ERIC primers (Enterobacterial Repetitive Integrance Consensus) into five genotypes (ERIC I-V), which possess different colony morphology, metabolism and especially virulence. There is a significant genetic variability among isolates of P. larvae, which may contribute to differences in virulence. P. larvae isolates used in this work were obtained from clinical cases of American foulbrood as well as from a debris collected from bee hives with no American foulbrood symptoms from all over the Czech Republic in cooperation with the Beekeeping Research Institute, s.r.o., Dol. The isolates were obtained from larvae and hive debris. Both virulet and avirulet strains were sequenced using the SMRT (single molecule real time) method on the Sequel platform (PacBio). This method is suitable for Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS), because it allows sequencing of long reads with high accuracy, eliminating the effect of a large number of repetitive sequences during the genome assembly. Furthermore,...

Právní úprava veterinární péče / Legislation of Veterinary Care

Chaloupecká, Denisa January 2020 (has links)
My diploma thesis deals with the legislation of veterinary care. In doing so, I tried to provide a clear and comprehensive overview of all the institutes and essentials that relate to it. Many uninformed people could mistakenly assume that this topic covers solely animal healthcare. Although it is also an integral part of the topic we do not find so much material here; the concept of veterinary work goes beyond that. Within 5 chapters we will learn not only historical contexts of development, but also international conventions or organizations. We will compare the Czech Leagl norms against the Slovak ones. An integral part of the thesis is a brief overview of sources of EU law, both primary and secondary, as well as their historical development. "Welfare", or ensuring animal welfare, is a rather new concept, but a highly important one. Thanks to animal welfare, we have begun to pay attention to animal health both physically and mentally. It was therefore obvious that this topic was briefly addressed, especially its development and implementation. The concept of "an animal" related to this topic has not been not neglected, especially in how the view of the animal has changed in recent years by amending the Civil Code. Since the topic of the diploma thesis is to concern mainly legal regulations, I...
