Psychological Predictors Of Problem Gambling Behaviors

Arcan, Kuntay 01 June 2012 (has links) (PDF)
Gambling becomes a source of difficulties of varying severity for some individuals whereas it is a positive experience for most of other people. Although gambling continues to be an entertaining activity for the majority of gambling individuals, prevalence rates suggest that pathological gambling is not low compared to other types of diagnosis. Most of the data with respect to gambling is from Western gambling literature, whereas research investigating the associated features of problem and pathological gamblers are very limited in the Turkish sample. The present study aimed to adapt two gambling-related instruments into Turkish and subsequently to examine the contributory roles of gambling participation, personality, affect, cognition, and motives of Turkish gamblers on gambling severity and gambling-related harm. The present study sample consisted of 357 males who were gambling in the sports and horse-races betting terminals. The findings pointed out it is important to conduct gambling research with Turkish samples considering the gambling severity and harm scores of the participants. The Turkish versions of Gambling-Related Cognitions Scale and Gambling Motives Scale showed promising psychometric properties with respect to their reliability and validity analyses. Besides, relatively higher negative affect, neuroticism, gambling-related cognitions, avoidance motive, and gambling participation were found to be associates of probable pathological gambling among Turkish regular gambling individuals. Moreover, the relationships of gambling cognitions / motives and gambling severity were mediated by the gambling participation. The main findings and related findings of the present study together with their implications are reported and discussed within the relevant gambling literature.

The Motives of Aid Donors : A comparative study of the aid allocation of Denmark, Norway and Sweden

Forsudd, Carl-Magnus January 2009 (has links)

This essay seeks to discern the motives of the aid allocation of western governments. The aim of the essay is to find differences between three highly similar aid donors: namely Denmark, Norway and Sweden, by doing a comparative case study according to the most similar case method. The research has been conducted by analyzing material from two ministers of each government, the Foreign Ministers and Ministers for International Development, by using a motive-analysis method. Social constructivism and structural realism have been used as a theoretical explanation. These two theories have been helpful in understanding how International Relations work. The results showed that although the three countries were highly similar, they showed some crucial differences in their motivation for aid allocation, especially in the case of Denmark. Theoretically, this could be explained by social constructivism, i.e. that the states have different priorities and experiences.

Selbstdarstellung und Persönlichkeit auf privaten Homepages

Machilek, Franz 10 March 2008 (has links) (PDF)

The Third Place in Lynchville

Fischer, Christian 06 August 2008 (has links) (PDF)
The article analyzes a television-commercial, which David Lynch shot for the launch of Playstation 2. It tries to introduce that commercial into the universe of well known Lynch-Movies, the Lynchville. At first, some of the recurrent motives in Lynch’s work will be discussed. Then the commercial will be analyzed, especially regarding any parallels to Lynch’s Œuvre. Finally, the question will shortly be discussed whether in this most commercial form of filmmaking the term “auteur” can still apply. The article comes to the conclusion, that Lynch succeeds in maintaining his personal vision – and that therefore the map of Lynchville has to be expanded.

Pulsed magneto-motive ultrasound imaging

Mehrmohammadi, Mohammad 18 November 2013 (has links)
Nano-sized particles are widely regarded as a tool to study biological events at cellular and molecular levels. However, there are only a few imaging modalities that can visualize interactions between nanoparticles and living cells. A new technique -- pulsed magneto-motive ultrasound imaging, capable of in-vivo imaging of magnetic nanoparticles at improved depth and in real-time is introduced in this study. In pulsed magneto-motive ultrasound imaging, an external high-strength pulsed magnetic field is applied to induce motion within magnetically labeled tissue and ultrasound is used to detect the induced internal tissue motion. A laboratory prototype of a pulsed magneto- motive ultrasound imaging system was built, tested and optimized through modeling and experimental studies using tissue-mimicking phantoms, ex-vivo tissue samples and in- vivo mouse tumor model. The results demonstrated a sufficient contrast between normal and iron-laden tissue labeled with ultra-small magnetic nanoparticles. Finally, further modifications and research directions are discussed which can eventually lead to development of a clinically applicable pulsed magneto-motive ultrasound imaging system. / text

Högläsning : ur fyra förskoleklasslärares perspektiv / Reading loudly : from four teachers’ point of view

Reinisch-Sölvberg, Jonna January 2015 (has links)
This study investigates four pre-school teachers point of view on loud-reading. The study aims to illuminate the pre-school teachers motive of reading loudly. The case study has been done with a socio-cultural perspective on teaching as a basic. I have chosen to use the qualitative interview technique in order to examine how teachers include loud-reading in their lessons. Informants claimed that reading-loudly nearly always is done in group, but how large the group is could vary of course. All of the teachers stated there were a lot of reasons for loud-reading. In spite of the informants claim that there are a lot of reasons to do so, the overall motive was to calm down the pupils. As for that the consensus was complete, whilst the reason for reading loudly spontaneously or plannedly did differ.

Kemppainen, Maria, Rushworth, Roderick January 2012 (has links)
This comparative study deals with male and female subjects during their visit to Stockholm. The aim was to find out if there were any general differences in travel motives between the sexes. Travel motive and motivation in tourism is a topic that has long been studied. With the help of various motivation theories and theories about how motives for travelling are created, we conducted a survey of tourists in Stockholm and then compared their travel motives. The results gave similar answers to what we had expected regarding gender differences. Among women, the main motive was shopping. Overall, the need to see family and friends was the primary reason to visit Stockholm. We can see tendencies that there are general differences in travel motives between the sexes during their visit to Stockholm. However, there are a variety of factors that may have contributed to these differences, which are presented in greater detail later in this paper.

Sportuojančių Norvegijos ir Lietuvos paauglių mokymosi motyvacijos ugdymas / NORWAY AND LITHUANIA SPORTING TEENAGERS MOTIVATION EXPRESSION

Mečkauskienė, Sandra 26 September 2008 (has links)
