Previous issue date: 2017-07-12 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / The present theoretical-reflexive and empirical effort fits within the context of media reception studies and aims to understand the Angolan political-mediatic setting from the perspective of the subject-recipient supported by the Habermasian concept of the public sphere. This dissertation sought to move away from a view of a presumptive receiver, conjecturing possible interpretations for the media products, listening to the real receivers and knowing the true appropriation / positioning. The central hypothesis is that the Angolan families have a real and critical diagnosis of the surrounding situation from Telejornal (main news service of the country) but can not reach a libertarian conclusion. For the theoretical-methodological support, we have contributions from Jurgen Habermas, Stuart Hall, Raymond Williams, Boaventura de Sousa Santos, Laurence Bardin, Ricardo Soares de Oliveira, Jesus Martin-Barbero and Nilda Jacks. The research method used is the Family Mediation Technic that involves ethnography, television reception and in-depth Interview. The main result is that there is a production of sense capable of forming critical public spheres, but this does not happen due to the existence of fences - to a party-state and to the Cultural (patriarchal) fence. It is an empirical research that was carried out in the city of Luanda - capital of the Republic of Angola.

PROMOVENDO O LETRAMENTO VISUAL A PARTIR DO GÊNERO DISCURSIVO NOTÍCIA DE POPULARIZAÇÃO DA CIÊNCIA / PROMOTING LITERACY VISUAL FROM DISCURSIVE GENRE SCIENCE POPULARIZATION NEWS REPORTMarques, Pâmela Mariel 27 February 2015 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Multimodal texts has gained ground in our society due mainly to mobilize different semiotic resources and comply with the demand for a highly multimodal society. It is observed especially in scientific multimodal texts that resort to different semiotic resources to capture and offer different modes of meaning to the reader as images, videos, audios. However, these texts require a multimodal literacy in which the reader is able to decode and interpret critically different semiotic resources constituting a scientific multimodal text or not. For this, the school environment and teaching materials are presented as major instruments to form efficient and critic multimodal readers (ROJO, 2009), and beyond promoting scientific literacy. Thus, this study aims to verify how the textbooks have especially explored the visual semiotic resource in SP texts, a recurrent multimodal genre in English language textbooks aimed at high school. This study is based on the Critical Genre Analysis (MOTTA-ROTH, MEURER 2005 2008) and Multimodal discourse (KRESS; Van LEEUWEN, 1996/2006; JEWITT, 2003), two theoretical and methodological approaches that recognize the plurality of languages that constitute the social practices. So, 21 volumes of the seven collections of EL textbook appointed by the Ministry of education in the Guide Textbook 2012 (PNLD, 2011) were analyzed. Firstly, a survey was conducted of the units/sections on the news popularization of science in these collections. Subsequently, the identified exercises that allude to the image of the news were classified according to the stratum of language and the meaning(s) that emphasize, being these representational, interactive and compositional meanings (KRESS; van LEEUWEN, 2006). In addition, additional exercices were proposed based on these meanings and in the stratum of language. The analysis reveals that most collections presents the SP news report, but only four of them exploit the images of the news through exercises. These generally focus on pre-reading section of the analyzed activities, emphasizing the semantic and pragamatic stratum, especially the propositional content of image. In this sense, despite the high presence and occurrence of SP news report in the collections, the educational potential of the image still seems to be neglected.

Westerling, Moa, Omer, Elise January 2020 (has links)

Bland hyckleri och hemohes : En textanalytisk studie av den svenska rapporteringen om finska och ryska dopningsfall / Amongst hypocrisy and Hemohes : a text analysis of Swedish reports on Finnish and Russian doping scandalsLif, Stina January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this study has been to, through a quantitative content analysis and a qualitative text analysis, determine which meaning nationality is given in news reports in Swedish daily press, and how it creates the event as a scandal. Focusing on two major scandals in cross country skiing, articles from the Finnish scandal in Lahtis 2001 and the revealing of doped Russian skiers in 2016 has been analysed. The theoretical framework for the study has been Stuart Halls representation theory, the framing theory, and theories regarding media scandals and nationality. The results from the quantitative and qualitative analyses has been divided into four themes: Imagined communities, Us and them, Individual and corporate and Fallen star. The results show that nationality is given meaning through the creation of imagined communities. It creates a gap between us and them, a sense of the nations parting from each other in form of cultural and moral aspects. There is also a difference between the representation of the countries. In the Russian doping scandal, Russia is considered as a doped nation, with a systematic doping where little guilt is to be put on the skiers themselves. In Finland, the nation stands for the people and is not in any ways to be associated with the doping scandal. Instead, the skiers get all the blame and little notion is made about the doping as being organised. This has also made the scandals to be divided into individual or corporate doping. As for the framing of the event as a scandal, attributes as “cheating” and a portrayal of the skiers as fallen stars is represented. By revealing the names of the suspected dopers it increases the news worth. An unexpected outcome was that the Russian dopers was not mentioned by name as often as the Finnish, which could enhance the event as a scandal even more. Furthermore, doping scandals could be studied in many different ways and is an interesting subject to immerse oneself in.

解讀報紙建構的資訊社會圖像 / Comprehending the Image of Information Society Newspapers Construct陳雅萍, Ya-Ping Chen Unknown Date (has links)

151 / The first question this thesis want to ask: what is Information Society (hereafter, IS)?---what kind of image of IS newspapers construct; then comprehending how the image is produced in the approach of critical political economy of communication. The former (constructing image) selects two approaches, inducting the themes of news reports and the metaphor language systematically in the page of information news, to present the image of IS newspapers construct; and the latter (comprehending image) concerns how communicative activities are influenced or limited under the situation of unequal distribution of resources (material and symbolic resources). Try to dig out the information of the productive environment, conditions, and relations of the image and so on about culture production to comprehend the deeper social meaning of the image.
The research found: In the page of information news (Liberal Times is the research object in this thesis), the image of IS is made of the chief leading role, information commodity, and the metaphor language which almost shows positive emotion. The productive environment of the image is related with the symbiosis structure of Taiwan state apparatuses and the capitalist of information industries in historical context in Taiwan and the economic relations between the press and information industries when the economic situation of the press changed. Also, by entering the process of making news, this article discusses how social existing powers interact in making information news, and the research found the IS image is produced from a powerful structure made of information industries and state apparatuses. These two kinds of sources occupy almost 80% of speaking location in the page of information news.
