Previous issue date: 2016-03-31 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / This paper seeks to understand how was the Gilberto Freyre's intellectual, political and moral trajectory before his consecration in 1933 with his The Masters and the Slaves. Because of previous research made for the History's course final paper, we found that the author organized a countermovement to the growing of ideological and cultural modernization that the Northeast of Brazil was experiencing in the mid-1920s, rallying almost every intellectuals of the region around the heated debate between regionalists and modernists. Thus, we analyzed if such events could have influenced him in some way in the choice of subject and in the writing of his major work. Furthermore, we also analyzed if the fact that the young Freyre have officially joined the Pernambuco government, between 1927 and 1930 as Estacio Coimbra's chief of staff, could have implemented any effective change in Pernambuco, especially in traditional-regionalistic kinds of changes. With those questions in mind, we analyzed his career since his academic education overseas, between 1918 and 1923, until his escape to exile in Portugal in 1930.

Direitos morais no patrimônio cultural imaterial / Moral rights at the immaterial cultural heritageAnita Pissolito Campos 07 October 2014 (has links)
Existem direitos morais no patrimônio cultural imaterial? / This work aims mainly at the study of the Brazilian legislation applicable to the immaterial cultural heritage created, developed, preserved and held by traditional communities, that can be identified, with the purpose of verifying if those traditional communities hold rights, specially moral rights related to their collective creations. In order to achieve its purpose, this work answered the following main questions, presented on its Introduction Chapter: Is there any protection to immaterial cultural heritage held by traditional communities, granting them rights over it or their traditional expressions belong to public domain? Can the immaterial cultural heritage be ruled by copyright legal framework? Are there moral rights related to immaterial cultural heritage? In order to answer those questions the Brazilian legal framework related to immaterial cultural heritage were analyzed and interpreted as a system pursuant to Brazilian Federal Constitution with the view of understanding the exact content of such rules and the extension of the rights granted. Finally, some cases were also analyzed, as well as law drafts and model-law, which allowed the construction of a proposition to regulate the rights related to immaterial cultural heritage. As main conclusions of such work, it is possible to answer the three questions previously presented, considering that exists legal protection to immaterial cultural heritage held by traditional communities and that Federal Constitution grants certain rights to traditional communities that hold, create and maintain cultural expressions, which shall not be considered public domain. Also it is possible to conclude that immaterial cultural heritage in not the object of copyright law and since there is an omission on Brazilian legal framework applicable to immaterial cultural heritage held by identifiable traditional communities, analogy can be used to fulfill such omission. Therefore, considering that immaterial cultural heritage as well as copyrights intend to protect the creation developed by its author and that both shall be considered as fundamental right, regarding its nature, it is possible to conclude that moral rights shall also be applied to protect traditional communities rights over their cultural expression, at least until a specific sui generis legislation is developed to protect the rights belonging to communities that create and develop immaterial cultural heritage.

Proposta e avaliação de um procedimento de planejamento de tempo combinado ágil e tradicional / Proposal and evaluation of a combined agile and traditional time planning procedureFelipe Barreto Silva 29 June 2015 (has links)
Identificou-se ainda duas estratégias de combinação: top-down e a bottom-up. / The Traditional and Agile project management approaches are seen as polar opposites. However, the combination of agile and traditional practices could be preferable to the isolated use of either. Through a Systematic Literature Review (RBS), definitions, expected benefits, critical factors and combination proposals, among models, methods and frameworks, were summarized. The conclusion indicates the definitions present wide meaning and do not support the development of combined proposals. A qualitative analysis of ten combination proposals uses the criteria of differentiation of agile and traditional approaches identified in Eder et al. (2014). The result of the analysis indicated the proposals do not differ from Agile or lack of information to discuss the combination adopted. In addition, the analysis identifies two combination strategies: top-down and bottom-up. This dissertation contributes in two main areas: to propose a definition of hybrid or combined approach, and recommended practices for using this approach. The objective of the research was to develop a combined time planning procedure, based on a new definition of combination. The procedure used to design top-down strategy and the final proposal is presented as flow of activities in a business processes model. The research method adopts the case study. The case consists of a project simulation with under-graduate students of project management course. Two dimensions of analysis are used to assess the data, the first is the combination of practices, based on the six criteria of Eder et al. (2014), and the second relates to the procedure usability. The result indicated that it is viable to combine practices, the procedure usability can be considered satisfactory for the application context, in terms of use and learning facility. It is recommended as future work to investigate the integration of other planning processes, as resources and stakeholders, and develop a procedure considering the bottom-up strategy.

Efeitos do modelo tradicional de periodização sobre o desempenho físico, desempenho competitivo e variação técnica de jovens atletas de judô / Effects of the traditional periodization model on physical performance, competitive performance and technical variation of young judo athletesMarcus Fabio Agostinho 25 September 2015 (has links)
The aim of this study was investigate the influence of the traditional periodization model (with multiple peaks) on physical fitness in field tests, competitive performance and technical variation in judo competitions. In this sense, the sample consisted of Junior and Cadet athletes who were monitored over two annual training seasons (12 athletes per season) in which internal training load parameters (Training Load and Training Strain) of each training period were quantified through the session rating of perceived exertion. Physical performance was evaluated when the periods of training were changed, measuring lower limbs muscle power (standing long jump), upper limbs dynamic strength endurance (dynamic judogi chin up) and aerobic and anaerobic fitness in a specific situation (SJFT - Special Judo Fitness Test). Additionally, in main competitions, fights were filmed for later quantification of competitive performance (winning percentage, points scored, points conceded, attack efficiency index and effectiveness index) and technical variation (throwing techniques, groundwork techniques and directions of throws). The variables were compared by mixed model for repeated measures analysis, followed by Bonferroni test. The associations among variables were tested by Pearson\'s or Spearman\'s correlation coefficient. In the 2011 season, there were differences (P <0.05) in the Training Load, Training Strain, standing long jump, dynamic judogi chin up, winning percentage, points scored, points conceded, attack efficiency index, directions of throws and throwing techniques, in addition to correlation between the Training Load three days before a regional championship and the attack efficiency index in this competition (r = - 0.832; P = 0.001; very large). In 2012 season, there were differences (P <0.05) in Training Load, Training Strain, standing long jump, dynamic judogi chin up, SJFT variables (number of throws, heart rate one minute after the test and index), points scored and throwing techniques, in addition to correlations between the number of throws in SJFT with the attack efficiency index (r = 0.629; P = 0.028; large) and winning percentage (r = 0.634; P = 0.027; large) in a inter-regional championship. The relevance of monitoring the internal training load and the physical performance was reinforced by the associations with competitive performance parameters. Although physical performance, competitive performance and technical variation have changed over the seasons, these variations occurred in an unsynchronized way, apparently without influence of the training loads adopted. Thus, the results of this study indicate that for young judo athletes, the traditional periodization model (with multiple peaks) does not develop continuous adaptations of the performance parameters analyzed, but it seems to be effective in increasing the physical performance early in the season and subsequent stabilization of the adaptations

Experiences of Muslim academics in UK Higher Education InstitutionsRamadan, Ibtihal January 2017 (has links)
The intertwining of political, economic, societal and global changes has resulted in accentuating even more so the 'Muslim question', both domestically and globally. Research has shown that the negative focus Muslims and Islam receive in the West is becoming increasingly mainstreamed, not only through the media, but principally through mainstream political discourse. This mainstreaming is within a global and local narrative of a 'war on terror'. The former followed 9/11 at the outset of this millennium and the latter is represented in the myriad of 'anti-terrorism' initiatives recently augmented in the UK by the Prevent duty. This intensely hostile backdrop has nurtured 'normative truths' about Muslims/Islam. Although Islamophobia did exist long before 9/11, it has now become commonplace and, even, legitimised within the context of tackling terrorism, affecting the experiences of the majority of Muslims in the West and elsewhere in diverse ways. British academia has opened its doors to non-traditional academics, including those from racial and/or ethnic minority backgrounds. Equality policies have been developed, particularly subsequent to the Race Relation Amendment (2000), which has sought to fulfil the recommendations of the Macpherson report (1999). Nevertheless, inequalities do permeate British academia and the experiences of non-traditional academics have been tainted by institutional racism, in both quantity and quality. Statistics attest the former, highlighting the underrepresentation of non-traditional academics in British academia, more particularly in senior leadership and professorial positions. Empirical research findings attest the latter through citing several factors, including career trajectory barriers and the double standards racial bias that operates in a subtle way within higher education institutions (HEIs). These broader and institutional dimensions set the scene for this thesis, the aim of which is to examine the experiences of Muslim academics. The particular experiences of this group of academics have been ignored in previous research, as faith/belief matters have largely been overlooked in studies that explored the experiences of minority academics. This thesis adopts a qualitative approach utilising theoretical bricolage that principally draws on Critical Race Theory (CRT). The notion of race in CRT is, however, expanded to include faith/belief. The thesis also draws on Post-colonial and De-colonial theories, Bourdieu's concept of 'habitus' and Fraser's model of 'status recognition'. It explores the perceptions of Muslim academic participants regarding their own personal/professional identities and how Muslim academics negotiate their Muslim-ness in academia and considers how wider narratives have influenced how they speak about their 'Muslim identity'. The views of the participants are particularly important to examine the extent to which, if any, the 'normative truths' have penetrated academia. This thesis also examines the perceptions of the participants regarding their career experiences and considers whether the experiences of this group of Muslim academics corresponds to, or differs from, the experiences of their fellow non-traditional academics. The Whiteness of the academy was an overarching theme, under which the participants' experiences of racism vis-a-vis job opportunities, career advancement and the multi-faced forms of epistemic racism were discussed. Exceptionalism seemed to be a pre-requisite of gaining a positive experience. Not only did exceptionalism temper perceptions of 'otherness', but being exceptional was an aspect that advanced the career trajectories of some of the participants. Silence was another major theme that recurred in various forms across the fieldwork. These silences appear to have been a consequence of the wider stigmatisation of the Muslim identity, which became evident in the ways some of the participants chose to go about interpreting, or declaring, their Muslim-ness in their workplace. While being Muslim created challenges and required some of the participants to exert substantive negotiations and efforts to fit in, it was advantageous for others, in terms of their career trajectories. Religious micro-aggressions were habitual to the participants with regards to their interactions with staff, and this was particularly acute for females wearing the hijab, where the religious micro-aggressions in HEIs took on a gendered aspect of the 'Muslim problem'. Silence also penetrated the narratives in relation to issues of institutional racism. Networking with other non-white academics was another main theme that featured in the accounts. Muslim academic participants, like other non-traditional academics seek support and mentorship from other minoritised academics to be able to survive in academia. The current study concludes by suggesting that there is a need for more consideration to be given to the aspects of faith/belief in HE policy and practice. This needs to be conducted within a framework that acknowledges the existence of religious microaggressions and the overwhelming normativism of Whiteness in academia.

Previous issue date: 2016-12-20 / Guarana (Paullinia cupana variety sorbilis) is an Amazonian species that was first cultivated by the ancient Maues Indians. It was they who domesticated the guarana. The introduction of the technological innovations applied to the guaran? crop in the municipality of Mau?s occurred from 1999, due to the low productive performance of traditional plantations and the attack of pests and diseases that affected the plants. The seedlings until then harvested in the forests or produced in artisanal nurseries, are no longer recommended. Clonal cultivars, along with other technical practices, have become the only method of management recommended by the technicians. This research identified the traditional aspects of guaran? culture in the municipality of Mau?s that remain unchanged, those that are in disuse and which technological innovations have been implemented. Information collection was carried out among Mau?s guaran? producers living in the Mau?s-A?u rivers and their tributaries, Apocuitaua-Miri, Urupadi, Paric? and Marau, to EMBRAPA, IDAM, SEPROR, AMBEV technicians and 1st and 3rd grade students Series of the agricultural technical course of the Federal Institute of Amazonas, Mau?s campus. The impact of this work is to demonstrate that technological innovations can not eliminate traditional practices and that these should be protected, being vital for the preservation of the plant and the guaran? culture in the municipality of Mau?s.

A Study of Ethnogeological Knowledge and Other Traditional Scientific Knowledge in Puerto Rico and Dominican RepublicJanuary 2018 (has links)
abstract: Ethnogeology is the scientific study of human relationships with the Earth as a system, typically conducted within the context of a specific culture. Indigenous or historically resident people may perceive local places differently from outside observers trained in the Western tradition. Ethnogeologic knowledge includes traditional indigenous knowledge (alternatively referred to as traditional ecological knowledge or TEK), which exceeds the boundaries of non-Indigenous ideas of physical characteristics of the world, tends to be more holistic, and is culturally framed. In this ethnogeological study, I have implemented several methods of participatory rapid assessment (PRA) from the discipline of field ethnography to collect culturally framed geological knowledge, as well to measure the authenticity of the knowledge collected. I constructed a cultural consensus model (CCM) about karst as a domain of knowledge. The study area is located in the karst physiographic region of the Caribbean countries of the Dominican Republic (DR) and Puerto Rico (PR). Ethnogeological data collected and analyzed using CCM satisfied the requirements of a model where I have found statistically significance among participant’s agreement and competence values. Analysis of the competence means in the population of DR and PR results in p < 0.05 validating the methods adapted for this study. I discuss the CCM for the domain of karst (in its majority) that is shared among consultants in the countries of PR and the DR that is in the form of metaphors and other forms of culturally framed descriptions. This work continuing insufficient representation of minority groups such as Indigenous people, Native Americans, Alaska Natives, and Hispanic/Latinxs in the Earth Sciences. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Geological Sciences 2018
